    I enjoyed this. I hope to take this trip some day with my husband. He is from Saint John, NB, Canada. He lived in Edmonton for a number of years. I visited him there a few times and grew to enjoy Edmonton though I do love the Maritimes being an East Coast guy. We now live in Wilmington, NC. It is so great to see young people exploring the world as I once did and am about to do again at age 69.

    I'm a little late to your You Tube channel but discovered this 5 year old recount of your Via Rail Canadian trip and loved the narrative and love to listen to you talk about your experience. I'm an 82 year old Tennessee USA(Nashville) citizen and have ridden the Canadian several times. My last time was February 2018 and my first time was when the Canadian ran from Montreal to Toronto to Calgary and Banff and on to Vancouver. I have already booked The Canadian from Toronto to Vancouver departing Toronto Wednesday April 30 2025. By the way I see you visited Ukraine so I'm going to check out those videos too. In 2005 I went with my fellow church mission team to Ukraine and did Orphanage ministry so my heart goes out to Ukraine resisting and overcoming the Russian invasion. Keep us the good work.

    There is a magic when traveling by train and the weather is raw and rainy. You cocoon in a roomette or sleeper car and the world narrows down to your window and a good book and some clffee or tea while the gray world washes down the window outside and an ever changing and unending landscape unrolls. reality becomes a separate thing and you may be a few feet outside it where you can look things over objectively.
    Everyone should take a long distance train with a sleeping cabin at least once in their life.

      I have had that feeling many times on a train as if you are just gliding thru the world not a part of it a real sense of displacement with the outside world.

    My Wife and I did a VIA rail trip from Halifax Nova Scotia to Vancouver in the Spring of 2018. The Ocean Limited and our Large Compartment for Two, took us from Halifax at 1PM and we arrived in Montreal the following morning. We stayed overnight in a hotel across the street from the train station and then the next morning hopped on the 5 hour business class train to Toronto. The Canadian left an hour late from Toronto about 11:30 pm. We had booked a Prestige accomodation, with an L-shaped leather sofa that turned into a queen sized bed at night. Prestige passengers also had a separate waiting room lounge in Toronto, and our luggage was taken to the train for us and placed in our cabins. All very civilized.
    It was a glorious adventure but i don't want to say Once-In-A-Lifetime because I would do it again in a heartbeat.

    Dear friend Dan:
    My name is Fausto Brindisi and I live in the Argentine Republic, I am a fervent admirer and fan of rail travel. I have watched very carefully your 3 videos about the Canadian. I tell you that last year in June I visited the USA, traveled from Chicago to Seattle in the Empire Builder, then from Seattle to Los Angeles in the Coast Scarlight and finally returned to Chicago in the California Zephir. I have to process the visa for Canada because I want to travel in the Canadian from Toronto to Vancouver or vice versa and also if possible Montreal to Halifax obviously by train. Very good your videos and I hope if God wants the coronavirus to end in order to travel. Thank you very much for your warm attention Fausto from Argentina

      No passport check needed, straight across Canada from Vancouver to Toronto :)

    • @stephclarke6850
      @stephclarke6850 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a few trains that cross the borders, though! Amtrak Cascades (Oregon and Washington State in to BC) and the Maple Leaf, Toronto to NYC. They have a stop at the border and I believe everyone gets off for passport control.

    • @davidlisowski5245
      @davidlisowski5245 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They have US border pre clearance at Vancouver as well as Canadian customs. That way the Amtrak trains do not have to stop at the border but cannot make any other station stops in Canada.

    Thanks for sharing! I will be doing this trip Toronto to Vancouver, at the end of September for the first time, on my own! SO excited! Watching this just made it more exciting!😁 Question: did you find it really jerky on the train? I ask because I am physically challenged and use crutches. I am aware it can throw you a bit off balance but how did you find it in general?

    • @ronclark9724
      @ronclark9724 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The train ride can be bumpy. For a physically challenged person stay seated, and move about when the train is stopped at a signal, station, or depot. The stewards are great and will bring meals, stewards always looking to earn a tip...

    What a trip! Do you think it would be accessible for someone in a wheelchair to go on that train?

    • @TheNewTravel
      @TheNewTravel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a great question, that I really don't know the answer to. I did see one older woman getting raised onto the train in a wheelchair at one of the stops. But I'm not sure if she was riding the whole journey (for sightseeing) or just going between two shorter stops.

    It's a nice journey but I don't think I'd want to be stuck on a train for five days without exercising. I know that this would be a little too much but if they had a little exercise room in one of those cars, I could be on that train for a month. Make it two months if they also had a car with pole dancers and free alcohol.

      Haha. You can get some cardio by walking from one end to the other, takes forever to cover the whole length!

    If you truly want to enjoy any cross-Canada travels, avoid constant gabbers! Otherwise you will fail to see and enjoy your travels.
