Being in a single room, with no distractions, a heater, toilet, sink and my own bed made the trip so accommodating. I've done this trip back and forth a couple times. The sheer vastness of Canada is stunning, not to mention the beauty and emptiness of so much of it. And there is nothing more wonderful that to lie in a bed and be rocked to sleep by the train's motion as the moon shines through your window across Lake Superior.

This was in late October.

An excellent video - thanks for posting it! I took this trip in 2013 and highly recommend it. I had a Sleeper Plus compartment (it's bigger than it looks in the video) which was very comfortable. The food was excellent; I met and enjoyed the company of some wonderful people, both crew and passengers, and experienced some of the most amazing scenery in the world. A vacation in itself, I hope to make the trip again some day (if the pandemic subsides), and I encourage anybody who's considering it to go for it - it's unforgettable!
Meyer Mica Canada is so big that there is so many different kinds of places that is beautiful and where I live, I just got so used to it that it’s not like it feels so special Anymore but I’m sure if I go travel to a completely new part of Canada, then I’m sure it will make me surprised how beautiful it is as well:)
As a kid in the 1960’s, when trains were more affordable, my family made this trip three times and back. Back then, CN covered most of this route, starting in Montreal ( where we lived), and traversing through Algonquin Park to Ottawa, Pembroke, North Bay, and then to Capreol, where we joined with another train from Toronto. The rest of the route is the same. So now it seems that the CP cars are used along most of the old CN route. Still, with the changes, this video brought back such memories for me. I was so lucky to travel this way as a kid, and also twice by train to PEI. Great times!
I did this trip when I was 5 years old , I’m 55 now and one of the most memorable trips of my life ! My parent and I had our own room with lavatory. I remember the porter coming at night to prepare the beds. The sky view cars where amazing to sit and take in this very flat country until you hit the Rockies. It’s good to see it’s back in operation. A must for all Canadians.
I don’t know how old this tape is, but those cars look like what they used for the Ocean route back in the 80’s-90’s My daughter and I did that route from Halifax to Montreal for 10 years 4 times a year. It was a great for small children because they had child programs like , movies, crafts, snacks, for free. Miss those years. ☺️
I done that journey several years ago. Had a single sleeper cabin. Had to pull the bed up to get to the toilet in the night! Job sleeping on it at night. The food in the restaurant is very good. You get called to meals and very do often have to put clocks and watches back one hour. I thoroughly recommend this trip.
I had planned this trip but the pandemic shut down the train as well as crossing over the border from the US for me. So we are waiting for the two gov’ts to open and the restoration of the line.
I've travelled back and forth across the country several times by train. Once all by myself. The trips were tiring, but wonderful. This video brings back all thise memories.
Thank you very much for taking me with you to this beautiful dreamt trip to Vancouver from... No, not from Toronto but from Ludhiana (India) . Luv ❤😘 it.
I took this train last Christmas, bought the upper berth ticket on November for only around $840. It was a really nice experience and I won't forget for my lifetime. The train delayed for more than 12 hours, so be patient, enjoy the view and the wonderful food and people on the way.
Ive wanted to do this! Ive done something similar in the U.S going from Chicago to Reno, NV. The train was delayed by 72hrs so 12 doesnt seem as bad! The Desert and Rockies were amazing on a train!
Wow, this is beautiful. When I was younger I thought this was a waste of time, but I have now added it to my Bucket List. I have also done the Rocky Mountaineer trip from Calgary to Vancouver and that was fabulous.
That is different. You take Amtak for work and business. You take PC as excursion. That is why VIA rail ticket price is expensive as hell. Now I see why... And believe me, I want a trip like this for my family as well.
@@林振华-t4v I rode amtrak as an excursion, rode it for work, rode it becuase planes make me sick, now I cant even eat a meal on the train im on for 2 days. Its stupid.
The government keeps cutting their funding. Watching this made me sad for Amtrak though; it's so shabby now. The first trip I took had actual food made downstairs in the dining car. Real silverware, coffee cups and plates; now it's all microwaved slop served on plastic. Very sad really.
I agree because I think we'll live to see the end of any major passenger rail service here in America let's hope via recognizes the historical significance of what they're doing with these trains and let that be what brings their revenue because what they have and what they're doing is very special because no other passenger Railroad in America uses vintage equipment anymore via as far as I know is the only one that does
This was a blast from the past! I did this trip in September 1978 - it was undoubtedly one of the best experiences of my life. There were a few differences - I left from Montreal, the train was older and didn't seem as quiet as this one appears to be. I slept in a lower berth in a sleeping car - very comfortable. However, I had no access to a shower the entire time. The food on this train appears to be a bit better than what I experienced, although it was by no means not tasty. The scenery was every bit as stunning, however the city of Vancouver has certainly undergone a major metamorphosis in 41 years! I would recommend this trip to anyone and everyone and should be a requirement on the Bucket List of one and all.
@@LifeOdysseyMotivation Excuse me? I praised the trip then and stated that it appears as wonderful now, or maybe even better in some respects (updated train, perhaps better food now). No, I am not out of mind - are you?

These coaches have been on the go since the mid 50 's... They still look fresh and current... I hope they can keep them rolling another 50 years... I've been across Canada on this train, on its' sister ' train, the dominion.. In 65..and in 69 our entire grade 7 class took the CN transcontinental Vancouver to Montreal... A trip I'll never forget... All parts of Canada are amazing to see
I took this train a few years ago in Fall. We left Toronto about 12 hours later than you did. I got great views of the Rockies but had to wake up to see the spectacular Fraser River in the moonlight. A wonderful trip!
That would be a huge waste of money. Imagine building high speed rail that people would barely use through the Canadian Shield, the prairies and the Rockies. It would be expensive, take years and working conditions would suck, especially in B.C and Northern Ontario
My wife and I took the trip three years ago but we started in Vancouver so that we would pass through the Rockies in daylight. We enjoyed it immensely, even the long waits, waiting for freight trains to pass us. Food, staff, and our room were wonderful. Even not having internet access was as blessing.
@@jerbiSofiene Depending on the season, one way this time of year is about $500.00 CDN. economy and up to a $1000.00 for a sleeper Vancouver to Toronto. But double check this to be sure!

The carriages are still those of the 50's? And it charges 10 times for the ticket? Now!?
Thank you so much for posting this. My mother and I took this same trip in 1954 moving from Toronto to Vancouver, a childhood memory that is very dear to me....thank you
oh my god, this video gives me so many flashbacks when I was a kid. I used to ride this train to Toronto every year till 2016
you must be rich. The price of it cannot be higher.
10:56 It really looks like a painting. So beautiful!
This video reminds me the same experience but was 22 yrs ago when I 1st arrived Canada. I remembered the fees was 5 times of the flight fees because I booked the ticket just 1 day before the depart of the train. Now I settled down in Vancouver. I like our beautiful Country. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing! Will make this trip one day in sha Allah. Also, thank you for not drowning out the natural sounds! Much appreciated,
Just watched 3 off your train travel films. They are the best. No comments just let the pictures tell the story. Thanks for sharing.
To look and know how beautiful Canada is every one should take this trip once. Beautiful long live canada. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Wow! I'm an American - this has just been added to my travel bucket list: Trans-Canadian rail journey.
what beautiful landscapes! thank you for sharing, greetings from switzerland
Thank you for sharing and taking us along on your journey! Loved your videography as well.
I live in Canada and I didn’t realize how beautiful it was
@Mohamed Isapedo you're one to talk bud
so beautiful!!🤭🤭🤭
Don't worry it's being ruined on a daily basis!
@Meyer Mica can you invite me there?
As a kid in the 1960’s, when trains were more affordable, my family made this trip three times and back. Back then, CN covered most of this route, starting in Montreal ( where we lived), and traversing through Algonquin Park to Ottawa, Pembroke, North Bay, and then to Capreol, where we joined with another train from Toronto. The rest of the route is the same. So now it seems that the CP cars are used along most of the old CN route. Still, with the changes, this video brought back such memories for me. I was so lucky to travel this way as a kid, and also twice by train to PEI. Great times!
Another one to add to the never ending bucket list. Brilliant video.
I’m a new Canadian and so so grateful to live here!
Trudeau let you in?
Welcome! Not-so-new-anymore Canadian
Another great job done, sir. Nobody better than you for great visuals, no 'music' and no smug smarmy commentary. Thank-you. Wish you well
This was really soothing to watch!
I am in love with the classic feel to this train set. Would love to take a trip on this. Brings you back to the 1950s almost classic feel.
Such a beautiful land! Thank you for sharing this with us!
I don’t know how old this tape is, but those cars look like what they used for the Ocean route back in the 80’s-90’s
My daughter and I did that route from Halifax to Montreal for 10 years 4 times a year. It was a great for small children because they had child
programs like , movies, crafts, snacks, for free.
I live in Canada 🇨🇦 for the past 13 years, I didn’t even know that such train route existed.
its government top secret, cuz its gonna be suffering on a train for a week
flyin' K 😂
@Philip Barnard this train isn't about the destination, but the journey. And quite the journey if you ask me...
@Philip Barnard Sounds good to me, it's all about a person's preference.
@@barvdw I can only agree with you...I wanna take that train so bad...just to live it. But heck, i can't pay that much..:(
I had planned this trip but the pandemic shut down the train as well as crossing over the border from the US for me. So we are waiting for the two gov’ts to open and the restoration of the line.
Followed this same journey in October 1966 with my parents and siblings. Vancouver has been home ever since. One day, it would be nice to do it again.
I did this journey in 1989 and loved every second of it!
Thanks for filming this it is something I have always thought about doing one day, what a way to travel.
I've travelled back and forth across the country several times by train. Once all by myself. The trips were tiring, but wonderful. This video brings back all thise memories.
Beautiful scenery and service seems first class.. would love to take this trip one day..
My goodness man Canada is beautiful.
Not in the good old Saskatchewan
Canada is beautiful but only british columbia is entitled beautiful british columbua
Amazing!! It was so much fun to watch the trip. I was thinking of doing this with my husband from Toronto to Vancouver.
Thank you!!
I love trains since childhood...
Everytime I see a video from you...i get an auromatic smile on my face ...am grateful to you...thanks a lot
I thought u said erotic for a second!
Awesome journey, thanks a lot for sharing!
Ontario looks like my home country, Sweden.
I've been dreaming about this lately, then I found your video. Thank you, I am one step closer to this dream of leaving Toronto for good.
Are those meals paid ?
@@chandanmalhotra7626 Generally they are separate from just the ticket.
@@bok.. thanks 😊
@@chandanmalhotra7626 have to purchase all food and drink on train... pricey
I live in Calgary so I see the Rockies all the time, but wow is that a gorgeous way to see them.
Calgary is far from the Rockies
Excellent! Thank you for all the detailed information, awesome train ride! Thank you.
This was nice! Came in my recommendations many times and finally watched it. Great upload!
Wow, this is beautiful. When I was younger I thought this was a waste of time, but I have now added it to my Bucket List. I have also done the Rocky Mountaineer trip from Calgary to Vancouver and that was fabulous.
Someone should show these shots of the diner and lounge cars to the president of Amtrak so he could see how to run a rail road.
This isn't a regular train, its an event. Does the cook break out a guitar during dinner on the amtrack? They did on The Canadian when I took it lol.
I agree because I think we'll live to see the end of any major passenger rail service here in America let's hope via recognizes the historical significance of what they're doing with these trains and let that be what brings their revenue because what they have and what they're doing is very special because no other passenger Railroad in America uses vintage equipment anymore via as far as I know is the only one that does
Back in 1976, a trip from Toronto Union Station to the same in Winnepeg took 4 days (3 nights).
I took this trip with my sister over 40 years ago. It was an awesome trip and I would love to repeat it.
Beautiful. Always wanted to go west - you’re video was just like I was going on the trip. Thanks for sharing...loved seeing the back country of all of it.
Canada should invest into high-speed trains from coast-to-coast, seriously.
Aman Jassal Amen! The country is so big, having slow trains (like we have now) is ridiculous.
Aman Jassal why that would defeat the purpose
That would be a huge waste of money. Imagine building high speed rail that people would barely use through the Canadian Shield, the prairies and the Rockies. It would be expensive, take years and working conditions would suck, especially in B.C and Northern Ontario
Maybe if we had 1 billion more people
The government would miss out on tax dollars from gas stations.
My wife and I took the trip three years ago but we started in Vancouver so that we would pass through the Rockies in daylight. We enjoyed it immensely, even the long waits, waiting for freight trains to pass us. Food, staff, and our room were wonderful. Even not having internet access was as blessing.
Did this trip soon out of high school the opposite way of this video when prices were reasonable. I'll never forget it!
have you any idea about the updated price of a round trip ticket please?
@@jerbiSofiene Depending on the season, one way this time of year is about $500.00 CDN. economy and up to a $1000.00 for a sleeper Vancouver to Toronto. But double check this to be sure!
Beautiful scenery from start to finish! Thanks for this.
That was a beautiful trip. The Rockys bere breath taking. Thank you for the viedo.
I love taking Via train whenever I visit my son and his family in Quebec, less stressful than driving my car. ❤️
Its really a beautiful life time experience to Travel like this fantastic view of Canada,I m just watching this video & dreaming....thanks for the nice video...
While I will say the interior of the train looks a bit dated, Canada’s terrain is drop dead gorgeous
We travelled eastward in 2003 and in 2014. I'd say the refreshed interior (and exterior) is authentic 1955-premium and is drop dead gorgeous, while the scenery, although it looks a bit dated, is drop dead gorgeous.
@@gouldney1 i actually worked on that renovation project, glad you enjoyed it
@@MHistheDesden you did beautiful work, I appreciate the workmanship on the 'last of the heavyweights'!
