I will never forget this trip... Almost two years ago I took this train from Toronto to Vancouver and it was simply amazing. Being in a single room, with no distractions, a heater, toilet, sink and my own bed made the trip so accommodating. Waking up in the middle of the night to the moon shining through the northern Ontario pine trees, knowing you’re in the middle of nowhere yet amongst others just makes it much more comforting. I recommend this to everyone, you’ll spend 5 days on this train and you won’t regret a single moment. It will also make you appreciate this country a lot more, we have such a beautiful wilderness that’s still untouched and hopefully it will always stay that way.

A single 23 year old immigrant from England, I took the train in April 1966 to Vancouver (4 days) after a horrible crossing (force 7 gale) , arriving a day late in Montréal and missing a layover night at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. Arrived in Vancouver with $400, no job, nowhere to stay. Six months later was in Vernon, BC working for The Bay. Been a Canadian citizen ever since, but living now in Vermont. In those days the train went through Calgary, Banff, the Kicking Horse Tunnels, Rockies, Salmon Arm, Kamloops, Fraser Canyon, Hope to Van.

I took this train last Christmas, bought the upper berth ticket on November for only around $840. It was a really nice experience and I won't forget for my lifetime. The train delayed for more than 12 hours, so be patient, enjoy the view and the wonderful food and people on the way.
Ive wanted to do this! Ive done something similar in the U.S going from Chicago to Reno, NV. The train was delayed by 72hrs so 12 doesnt seem as bad! The Desert and Rockies were amazing on a train!
That would be a huge waste of money. Imagine building high speed rail that people would barely use through the Canadian Shield, the prairies and the Rockies. It would be expensive, take years and working conditions would suck, especially in B.C and Northern Ontario
We travelled eastward in 2003 and in 2014. I'd say the refreshed interior (and exterior) is authentic 1955-premium and is drop dead gorgeous, while the scenery, although it looks a bit dated, is drop dead gorgeous.
@@skylarwright3493 Just like humans all over the world --- some good, some bad. Canadians are pretty nice overall though; usually friendly and helpful when we asked questions and asked us if we needed directions when we were looking at maps or street signs.
Beautiful. How the hell did this come up on my feed,? I have been talking about Toronto and Vancouver with friends recently, no Google search and this pops up? Microphone tapped I think.
Honestly something else happened when I was talking to friends, can't remember the subject but it was totally esoteric and adverts started to pop up with the precise subject.
💯 agreed. I drove from Toronto to Golden B.C. a few years back. That will give you a whole new perspective as well. Driving through Ontario. You don't realize what a uphill drive it is from Sault Ste Marie to Thunderbay. All the while admiring the forests and shield. The rockies were gorgeous too. Natural waterfalls right by the side of the road.
Thank you so much for posting this. My mother and I took this same trip in 1954 moving from Toronto to Vancouver, a childhood memory that is very dear to me....thank you
An excellent video - thanks for posting it! I took this trip in 2013 and highly recommend it. I had a Sleeper Plus compartment (it's bigger than it looks in the video) which was very comfortable. The food was excellent; I met and enjoyed the company of some wonderful people, both crew and passengers, and experienced some of the most amazing scenery in the world. A vacation in itself, I hope to make the trip again some day (if the pandemic subsides), and I encourage anybody who's considering it to go for it - it's unforgettable!
I don’t know how old this tape is, but those cars look like what they used for the Ocean route back in the 80’s-90’s My daughter and I did that route from Halifax to Montreal for 10 years 4 times a year. It was a great for small children because they had child programs like , movies, crafts, snacks, for free. Miss those years. ☺️
Beautiful. Always wanted to go west - you’re video was just like I was going on the trip. Thanks for sharing...loved seeing the back country of all of it.
I took this train a few years ago in Fall. We left Toronto about 12 hours later than you did. I got great views of the Rockies but had to wake up to see the spectacular Fraser River in the moonlight. A wonderful trip!
This was a blast from the past! I did this trip in September 1978 - it was undoubtedly one of the best experiences of my life. There were a few differences - I left from Montreal, the train was older and didn't seem as quiet as this one appears to be. I slept in a lower berth in a sleeping car - very comfortable. However, I had no access to a shower the entire time. The food on this train appears to be a bit better than what I experienced, although it was by no means not tasty. The scenery was every bit as stunning, however the city of Vancouver has certainly undergone a major metamorphosis in 41 years! I would recommend this trip to anyone and everyone and should be a requirement on the Bucket List of one and all.
@@LifeOdysseyMotivation Excuse me? I praised the trip then and stated that it appears as wonderful now, or maybe even better in some respects (updated train, perhaps better food now). No, I am not out of mind - are you?

I didn't really know what to expect of Canada tbh, but it is a beautiful country with some of the nicest people you could ever want to meet! I really enjoyed my trip and my time in Canada.
Welcome to Toronto again in the future. Union Station system and especially the GO Train section is getting an ultra make-over, less pedestrian congestion and better flow or people even though way more people using it than before.
I've done the train & it is gorgeous, but, I like a motorcycle trip better you can ride north, south, east & west & see a much more varied slice of the country especially with no time constraints, so you find a hot spring(my favorite) you like, stay for a day or two, I've seen bears, elk, deer, moose, beaver, eagles, mountain goats, actually too many animals to list, it's a great country to get to know, of course, I'm biased as I'm Canadian...
Its really a beautiful life time experience to Travel like this fantastic view of Canada,I m just watching this video & dreaming....thanks for the nice video...

That is different. You take Amtak for work and business. You take PC as excursion. That is why VIA rail ticket price is expensive as hell. Now I see why... And believe me, I want a trip like this for my family as well.

The government keeps cutting their funding. Watching this made me sad for Amtrak though; it's so shabby now. The first trip I took had actual food made downstairs in the dining car. Real silverware, coffee cups and plates; now it's all microwaved slop served on plastic. Very sad really.
I agree because I think we'll live to see the end of any major passenger rail service here in America let's hope via recognizes the historical significance of what they're doing with these trains and let that be what brings their revenue because what they have and what they're doing is very special because no other passenger Railroad in America uses vintage equipment anymore via as far as I know is the only one that does
Aloha from Hawai'i! My wife and I caught a CN train in Brownsville JCT Maine and went all the way to Vancouver (we were returning to university in Tacoma, WA). That was an amazing trip. I thought trans-Canada trains were no more. Now I'm going to check options out! Thank you!
There was a train from Montreal to Halifax that passed through Maine until the massive VIA cuts of January 1990. It was called the Atlantic Ltd. It ran on the Canadian Pacific and did stop at Brownsville Jct.

I'm from Vancouver and during a school field trip in the 80's when I was in Grade 5 I took the Canadian through the Canadian Rookies. We were on the CP tracks that go through the Rogers Pass to the south. I think the Rogers Pass is a better route for sightseeing. Now Via uses CN tracks and the Northern Route via Edmonton, not Calgary. To travel the Rogers Pass and the Kicking Horse pass with the Spiral Tunnels you have to take the Rocky Mountaineer Tourist Train. Plus the Canadian leaves Vancouver at 8pm for the return trip, so most of the beautiful BC mountains are travelled during the night.

Ive wanted to do this! Ive done something similar in the U.S going from Chicago to Reno, NV. The train was delayed by 72hrs so 12 doesnt seem as bad! The Desert and Rockies were amazing on a train!
Are those meals paid ?
@@chandanmalhotra7626 Generally they are separate from just the ticket.
@@bok.. thanks 😊
@@chandanmalhotra7626 have to purchase all food and drink on train... pricey
Canada should invest into high-speed trains from coast-to-coast, seriously.
Aman Jassal Amen! The country is so big, having slow trains (like we have now) is ridiculous.
Aman Jassal why that would defeat the purpose
That would be a huge waste of money. Imagine building high speed rail that people would barely use through the Canadian Shield, the prairies and the Rockies. It would be expensive, take years and working conditions would suck, especially in B.C and Northern Ontario
Maybe if we had 1 billion more people
The government would miss out on tax dollars from gas stations.
While I will say the interior of the train looks a bit dated, Canada’s terrain is drop dead gorgeous
We travelled eastward in 2003 and in 2014. I'd say the refreshed interior (and exterior) is authentic 1955-premium and is drop dead gorgeous, while the scenery, although it looks a bit dated, is drop dead gorgeous.
@@gouldney1 i actually worked on that renovation project, glad you enjoyed it
@@MHistheDesden you did beautiful work, I appreciate the workmanship on the 'last of the heavyweights'!

I actually like the interior
Canada is the most beautiful country I've ever seen ! The people are so nice too
trust me not everyone is
@@skylarwright3493 Just like humans all over the world --- some good, some bad.
Philip Chan exact same thing that has happened to me
Honestly something else happened when I was talking to friends, can't remember the subject but it was totally esoteric and adverts started to pop up with the precise subject.
Me too
Watch the joe Rogan podcast of Edward Snowden about iPhones it’s scary lol
Terrifying, these data scalpers probably know more about me than I do. 😂
Canada has some of the most beautiful scenery...
@@KH-nt7ej That sounds like a dream, honestly....
The scenery was spectacular.
This train is on my bucket list.
Wow...i'd say so too....Makes me dream big time. Our country is too beautiful and so wide. Hello from Saguenay, Quebec:)

What a beautiful country we have!
I love taking Via train whenever I visit my son and his family in Quebec, less stressful than driving my car. ❤️
To look and know how beautiful Canada is every one should take this trip once. Beautiful long live canada. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Took this trip from London to Vancouver in early 70's. Scenery was beautiful
Thank you so much for posting this. My mother and I took this same trip in 1954 moving from Toronto to Vancouver, a childhood memory that is very dear to me....thank you
oh my god, this video gives me so many flashbacks when I was a kid. I used to ride this train to Toronto every year till 2016
you must be rich. The price of it cannot be higher.
I love trains since childhood...
Everytime I see a video from you...i get an auromatic smile on my face ...am grateful to you...thanks a lot
I thought u said erotic for a second!
Canada’s beauty cannot be described with words! I look forward to living there someday.
We got enough people here. We don’t need you. Stay where you are.

The carriages are still those of the 50's? And it charges 10 times for the ticket? Now!?
I don’t know how old this tape is, but those cars look like what they used for the Ocean route back in the 80’s-90’s
My daughter and I did that route from Halifax to Montreal for 10 years 4 times a year. It was a great for small children because they had child
programs like , movies, crafts, snacks, for free.
Miss those years. ☺️
Wow! I'm an American - this has just been added to my travel bucket list: Trans-Canadian rail journey.
what beautiful landscapes! thank you for sharing, greetings from switzerland
Beautiful. Always wanted to go west - you’re video was just like I was going on the trip. Thanks for sharing...loved seeing the back country of all of it.
Excellent! Thank you for all the detailed information, awesome train ride! Thank you.
I did this journey in 1989 and loved every second of it!
10:56 It really looks like a painting. So beautiful!
I took this train a few years ago in Fall. We left Toronto about 12 hours later than you did. I got great views of the Rockies but had to wake up to see the spectacular Fraser River in the moonlight. A wonderful trip!
I am in love with the classic feel to this train set. Would love to take a trip on this. Brings you back to the 1950s almost classic feel.
Such a beautiful land! Thank you for sharing this with us!
Thank you for sharing and taking us along on your journey! Loved your videography as well.
Awesome journey, thanks a lot for sharing!
Ontario looks like my home country, Sweden.
It was nice to see the go train! I remember catching that a few times while I was over visiting family in Toronto.
Thanks for your visit!
Yeah. Canada was nice one upon a time. But now it’s full of dirty scummy 3rd worlders, who now make this country a shit hole.
ibuy4unow you guys are so disgusting. Trash!
Just watched 3 off your train travel films. They are the best. No comments just let the pictures tell the story. Thanks for sharing.
This was really soothing to watch!
Those Rocky Mountains are just gorgeous, I can only imagine to see them in person! ❤️
I've climbed them! Amazing!
I did this trip in 2007, in a Silver Leaf single room. one of the most memorable things I have done.
Yes No sorry I don’t remember, but it was worth it. I booked directly with ViaRail.
Cost is between 1500/2500 depending on accomadations and time of year. It's all on google
I've always wanted to take the VIA train to Vancouver from TO. Gosh this was magnificent to watch. Absolutely beautiful. xD One day...
If you are wondering how it is to travel in the winter, you can also see my video. I also have recommendations when to travel. - th-cam.com/video/u_ODgYDLRXo/w-d-xo.html
I had planned this trip but the pandemic shut down the train as well as crossing over the border from the US for me. So we are waiting for the two gov’ts to open and the restoration of the line.
Beautiful scenery and service seems first class.. would love to take this trip one day..
Someone should show these shots of the diner and lounge cars to the president of Amtrak so he could see how to run a rail road.
That is different. You take Amtak for work and business. You take PC as excursion. That is why VIA rail ticket price is expensive as hell. Now I see why... And believe me, I want a trip like this for my family as well.
@@林振华-t4v I rode amtrak as an excursion, rode it for work, rode it becuase planes make me sick, now I cant even eat a meal on the train im on for 2 days. Its stupid.
The government keeps cutting their funding.
Watching this made me sad for Amtrak though; it's so shabby now. The first trip I took had actual food made downstairs in the dining car. Real silverware, coffee cups and plates; now it's all microwaved slop served on plastic. Very sad really.
This isn't a regular train, its an event. Does the cook break out a guitar during dinner on the amtrack? They did on The Canadian when I took it lol.
I agree because I think we'll live to see the end of any major passenger rail service here in America let's hope via recognizes the historical significance of what they're doing with these trains and let that be what brings their revenue because what they have and what they're doing is very special because no other passenger Railroad in America uses vintage equipment anymore via as far as I know is the only one that does
This was nice! Came in my recommendations many times and finally watched it. Great upload!
Aloha from Hawai'i! My wife and I caught a CN train in Brownsville JCT Maine and went all the way to Vancouver (we were returning to university in Tacoma, WA). That was an amazing trip. I thought trans-Canada trains were no more. Now I'm going to check options out! Thank you!
So you rode a freight train?
There was a train from Montreal to Halifax that passed through Maine until the massive VIA cuts of January 1990. It was called the Atlantic Ltd. It ran on the Canadian Pacific and did stop at Brownsville Jct.
Thanks for posting this. Doing this cross-country train trip through Canada has been on my travel bucket list for sometime, and I hope I get to do it...when I can find the time and money. 😊

@Meyer Mica can you invite me there?
Spectacular video, quite enjoyed touring Canada from Toronto to Vancouver. It has been 40+ years since I was last in BC. Amtrak in the US needs to take a course on designing their sleeper and dining cars.
Very nice great job. I'm my family love to Canada. My children settled living in Canada. God blessed always lovely Canada.
Wonderful video guys! 😁 Fantastic trains. Great to see some familiar places. Hopefully late next year we are going on the same route. But this year we are heading over to Saskatoon from England to visit relatives this month 🥳
Followed this same journey in October 1966 with my parents and siblings. Vancouver has been home ever since. One day, it would be nice to do it again.
This has been around for awhile. However, the cost is ridiculous so most people fly or wait until they retire to do it.
PICKLE Marz there is a unlimited via rail train pass that they sell every summer for students and people under 25 years old. It is 600$ and you can take any train with Via Rail for 60 days. A wonderful video tour by train of this beautiful place. I enjoyed to the end and have you a well deserved thumbs up. Regards from Bali
I’m a new Canadian and so so grateful to live here!
Trudeau let you in?
Welcome! Not-so-new-anymore Canadian
This video reminds me the same experience but was 22 yrs ago when I 1st arrived Canada. I remembered the fees was 5 times of the flight fees because I booked the ticket just 1 day before the depart of the train. Now I settled down in Vancouver. I like our beautiful Country. Thanks for sharing.
