  • Up next in the Core Twenty is Erastil, the nature deitiy of the hunt.
Erastil is called Old Deadeye, is the patron of hunting, agriculture, and close-knit families and communities. He is commonly worshipped by humans, gnomes, and halflings all around Golarion. He encourages his followers to focus on their families, prioritizing a simple and sustainable life and keeping out of problems of the wider world.

One bit of lore about Erastil that was not included in your video is that Erastil does not get along with the Wild Hunt do to their destructive impact on the countryside so Erastil and his church will go out of their way to fight them I learned this the hard way when playing as a character who had a Wild Hunt Monarch inside of them it was not happy that we had to make camp at a abandoned temple of Erastil

So basically he's the dad god. Good wholesome dad energy.

      I love that interpretation.

I have a miniature I was painting up to be a ranger, but maybe he should be a cleric of Erastil. A small town wilderness cleric with a hatchet seems like an interesting niche.

Long ago, we had a Kingmaker session and as I imatine is often the case, a settlement was built up around the old temple of Erastil after its reconstruction. It is a 'city', though no Erastilian will let anyone get away with calling it that, called Whitestag.
We have done 'future' stories in that particular Kingmaker setting, and Whitestag became a central hub for a large cluster of towns, lodges, communes, and homesteads that do call themselves part of the 'Whitestag Commune'. The central temple is treated as a holy site for hosting farmer's markets, meet-and-greets, settling old feuds, marriage ceremonies, and any other kind of civic activities.
They also made an elite defensive militia with the rest of the nation called the Deadeye Compact because a terrible event poisoned the lands west of Whitestag and now mutants, undead, and other terrible things have started stalking out of the blight. The Erastilians there are tough, and children often learn how to pick up a bow as soon as they learn to walk. They are *incredibly* deadly and have a bleaker view of people native to the nation because they feel (rightly so) that they aren't doing enough to solve the problem west of them.
S'a fun set up. It's a pity Erastil isn't more commonly used. I think his old reputation as 'the representation of a parent who isn't accepting of your gender' has stuck a bit hard.

That's such a cool way to incorporate Erastil's faith into the world. I totally agree that his unaccepting parent reputation is seen as too prominent. It's such a small part of a really interesting character and deity. Whitestag sounds like a really awesome setting for a Kingmaker campaign.

You look at a villain and say "i hope you find goodness in your heart".
I kook at a villain and say "i hope old deadeye finds your heart".
    We are not the same.

Erastil and Abadar is just father and son relationship
Edit: i like the idea that Erastil is this old Boomer (or older) with outated wives about the world that was necessary in the hunter gathering tribe period (Concepts like distrusting outsiders (light racism), the idea that men need to protect women), but he's still good in heart and means nothing bad about it and he might represent a simpler life by the hearth and family compared to the great civilization that Abadar envisions, and still have other good (but also outdated) ideas. Erastil is kind of good Asmodeus, who tells his followers to live simple rather than opulent

Very good and informative video. Solid narration too.
I'm currently playing a Champion of Erastil on Strength of Thousands. A very laid back himbo farmboy that is currently in a relationship with a PC that is a follower of Desna. Their somewhat opposing beliefs lead to some great RP.

I have experienced that dynamic in a real life relationship and it is a real struggle. If you find a solution to it you have to tell me because I have never managed to. 😅
And if you need any ideas for potential arguments or general conflicts then feel free to ask because I could probably have a few ideas. 😉

Bro just a grumpy old farmer

In my head, he's played by Clint Eastwood. He's grumpy and unpleasant, and mostly wants to be left alone.
