The Eagle Knights are really cool. I like how different they are from other knights: they dress more like military officers from the 17th or 18th century, but they have all these magic items that let them throw down with more traditional heavily armored knights. And I just love how idealistic they are. It can be a lot of fun and emotionally compelling to have morally complicated groups and characters, but sometimes you just want some unambiguous good guys.
I got behind on your videos for the first time since I started watching and now it feels like I have a present with hours of lore to watch while I work! 🎉
My headcanon is that Aroden was killed by Iomedae when she found out he was going to pull a God Emperor of Man and start a genocidal Crusade across Golarion
Thank you so much for making all of these lore videos! I love TTRPG stuff but I've mainly stuck with D&D5e due to general ease of playing and group preference after starting with 3.5e. I've always looked at pathfinder from a distance with some interest after playing the Wrath of the Righteous game but all these videos made me absolutely fall in love with the setting! Especially Geb and Ustalav, as I'm pretty fond of undead themes. Needless to say, you've inspired me to run a PF2E game for my friends, so thank you!
Andoran proved to be a great '3rd power' in my game when it came to the conflict with Cheliax. Kind of a 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' type of thing.
@@TheMythkeeper Yeah! I've been using Andoran as a looming threat in my game. I've been running my S&S game as a full sandbox, and intend to go far beyond the normal scope of adventure after the main story is completed. I ran the Gray Corsair ship you can find in the Ships of the Inner Sea book, along with three other custom ones so far! I never thought of the "Enemy of my enemy is my friend" angle, but might try to incorporate that!
I must admit I'm not the biggest pathfinder fan, but your coverage does give me an appreciation for some of the individual aspects of the setting. It even sometimes inspires me to create character concepts like this one. Andrus Galen is an ethnically Taldan man from Andora, he's a member of a wealthy family that traces its lineage to colonial Andora and is actually minor offshoot of house Thrune. Originally an eagle knight of the twilight talons, he defected after becoming disilusioned with the organization. His commitment to fighting tyranny is still strong and he keeps the good in his heart alive, but he does so through an unyielding commitment to law as a member of the hellknight order of the scourge. His hawk still flies by his side and he will occassionaly draw his old sword when it's time to lay the unjust low.
I really liked the part where you did the section equipment which includes more of the game mechanics... Do you think you'll do more sections of videos with this in mind ?
I try to avoid game mechanics (especially since there are multiple versions of the game, Pathfinder for Savage Lands, Pathfinder 1E, Pathfinder 2E, Pathfinder Remaster etc... but sometimes the fluff and the crunch converge and there's no avoiding it. Its not something I'll seek out, but I won't try so actively to avoid it ;-)
Interesting question: Where are Eagle Knights during the 5th Crusade(Wrath video game)? I don't remember meeting them. Hellknights though ... oh, yes. They have a presence and a half.
I should have pointed this out in the video, but IIRC, Irabeth Tirablade is a member of the Eagle's Watch - a faction of Mendevian Crusaders founded by an Anodren Eagle Knight. So they're technically around, they're just integrated with the other crusaders.
Eagle knight's are awesome which also makes for a very interesting character concept I've had for my next Wrath of the Righteous playthrough, the Prestige Class expanded mod is very good to have for that game as it has been introducing the many prestige classes of which the Eagle Knight factions are prestige classes added by the mod along with being classes on the tabletop. Actually the only thing this video was missing was a breakdown of the four prestige classes from a gameplay standpoint. In my own lore of the settting based on my Kingmaker run Andoran ended up becoming an ally of my kingdom due to a shared enemy in Cheliax and many shared values as Asharnial Lornflame is built on the principles of the River Freedoms. I find it interesting how the gear of the Eagle Knight's varies though the Andoran style of dress is a very major contrast between the armor the Hell Knights the main enemy of the Eagle Knights, personally I find the attire interesting especially in a setting where guns are not widespread they exist but are rare, the Andoran gear is more suited to the 1700s where enemies didn't wear much armor if any. Personally I would not want to be facing a Hell Knight in such attire unless I was packing a blunderbuss or rifled musket to put the Hell Knight ten-feet underground, no melee combat against an enemy in full plate unless I'm in full plate myself. That said I like these guys from a lore standpoint actually a fairly good choice for a Wrath of the Righteous playthrough either in tabletop or the Video Game, though I wish I could find a good portrait for one, also the look wouldn't be easy to pull off outside of using VA 2 to alter the character in ways. I'm not sure how I'd go about building one
The NPC Tamily Tanderveil from the Beginner's Box and Abomination Vaults is a former Gray Corsair. It's not important to this lore video, but it's a neat connection for players to learn about.
Officially Calistria is Chaotic Neutral, but honestly she always felt more CG than CN for me, and with alignments going away that feels even more so the case. I think some Eagle Knights might be open minded about Calistria.
thx for the video, awesome work as allways!...i think a paladin with a griffon mount, would be better but probably will be confused with a Korvosan guard.
Yep definitely France. Great video. Can't wait till the Pathfinder Society guide. And are there any Goblin factions? Or better yet imagine a goblin eagle knight.
Hi Mythkeeper, very interesting video - your factions guide videos really give depth in combination with your regional guides. Do you think you'll do a deep dive on Absalom any time soon btw? ;) Thank you!
Do the books or any adventure path say how or who killed Aroden, or if he killed himself to change the history of the multiverse so that the end of reality would not come? Or have they still not created a story about why he died?
I so badly want to play an orphan of Cailean who joined the Andoran army and failed to get into the Eagle Knights and sets out to adventure to prove his worth.
One thing I can't say often enough is that your game is your game. So if Andoran = America works for you and your players then guess what, Andoran = America ;-)

Don't underestimate the complexity of having a character that wants to do the right things who is faced with morally difficult decisions ;-)

That Skulls and Shackles character sounds amazing!
I've been having Andoran have a rather big part in my own S&S game.
Andoran proved to be a great '3rd power' in my game when it came to the conflict with Cheliax. Kind of a 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' type of thing.

Characters like this with conflict at the core of them always turn out really fun to play and to have at the game table!
Here we goooooo! I get to listen while I do a project in a local ciderhouse today.
Nice :-)
Thanks for the video!
Nice to have aweekly source of pathfinder lore always tends to be interesting to listen to
Glad you enjoy it!

Great Video, as always! Thank you, MythKeeper. I barely can wait for the Pathfinder society video. But i know, that one takes time!
Its not _that_ far off now... Should land in April.

Yeah this is a cool connection. Thanks for sharing.
They don't like Slavery but they also don't like chaos so how the hell do they feel about Calistria?

No reason you couldn't have an eagle knight ride a griffon I think ;-)
Any plans to do a video on Hellknights faction?
That's the next faction guide coming up ;-)

Goblin eagle knight is a pretty great idea!

I surely would 🤣
great vid! i have a nation inspired by america and the andoran stuff is very useful.
Great to hear!
I like there's 2 America-inspired areas in Golarion. The other is Alkenstar

Yeah, what @scottread2979 said ;-)
The big question is... WTF happened to Aroden?
Nobody knows for sure, but you can always decide something for your own games

I did not on this one! I ran out of time this week, so you just got a picture... lol
