Good video. Hadn't even known about the silcox key. Would have been helpful one time when my radiator was overheating

That's a space blanket and a small hatchet away from being a hiking pack.

The outside of the pack, I have to catch more as I go this evening.

What is getting home if not hiking?

I think my hiking packs might be missing a couple things.

What is the purpose of a "get home bag?" Dang that's deep ! 🤔

Chemlight glow sticks and a light shield are handy to have too. Makes a handy visual trip sensor or just a non-electric light source in the middle of the night.
Additionally, a welder's du-rag is handy to keep in your bag as well.

RIGHT! I use LiteBrite LED Chemlights the military has switched to. Love them, especially the IR ones.

Great info, thanks for sharing it all with us. Something I carry in certain of my bags, that I will also include in my get-home-bag is lens cleaning wipes. The ones I carry must contain alcohol (ethanol is preferred, but isopropyl is okay) ideally without detergents, unless medically safe. They make good expedient cleaning patches for equipment, especially those that might need a solvent to help clean (and if you are lazy and carry dirty equipment, I know you people exist). They can be useful for hygiene (rough on the skin but okay for emergencies). They can be used to clean abrasions and the areas of punctures and lacerations (don't get anything in there unless you know what you're doing). They're also half decent at starting fires.
Edit: to find wipes with ethanol you might have to look at medical cleaning products, where I'm from you can get a pack similar to wet wipes, they are bulkier and heavier than lens wipes, but I prefer them. Google pre-saturated medical wipes, should get you close.

Thanks for the detailed presentation. Loved hearing the why behind what's included. Much more informative then most peoples videos on same topic. Only thing I would suggest (and feel weird saying it since you have more experience then me) is some extra pairs of socks. Foot care becomes important for those 24-48 hours. Keep up the great work as always. Merry Christmas and God Bless.

LOL, we commented on this. I always keep 2 pars in there. To Be Honest, I just assumed it was a given.

Agree with no big deal concerning grey man look. In a SHTF situation if someone wants what you have, they will try to get it, no matter what your pack looks like. Gear is gear no matter what the bag looks like.

Thanks for the video. Not sure if I missed it, but do you carry any water and or a proper knife with you ? also is it a good Idea or a bad idea to carry cash with you ?

I carry 4 quarts of water in the car in US 2-QT canteens because they have carry straps. I always have a fixed blade knife with me. Cash is always preferable to no cash.

USB battery. That's what you're missing. As much as we love our toys, our radios, your cellphone is your link to almost everyone. Does your gradnfather havea bao in his retirement home? Where's your contact list?
