    Regarding a return ticket, or outbound ticket, this is a Colombia Migration law. Colombia make airlines responsible of enforcing the law, as airlines will send passengers back to their initial point of travel at the airline cost. Each country have their own rules, and as a traveler we need to make sure to know the pre requisites to enter a country.

    • @NomadicJayye2021
      @NomadicJayye2021  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome video super informational! One question, I'm from the U.S. but I'm actually departing to Colombia from Mexico and when i leave Colombia I plan on traveling back to Mexico. I live right near the mexican/american border and flights are waaay cheaper if I travel from Mexico than USA. But my question is do you think they are going to force me to buy a flight ticket that goes directly to the USA instead of mexico?

    • @NomadicJayye2021
      @NomadicJayye2021  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it really depends on the airlines and which ones enforce a rule that seems to only apply to Colombia. Avianca is the only airlines that forced me to buy a ticket to my home country even though i wasn't going there. I didn't have that problem with Spirit, American, Latam, Viva, or Copa Airline. What I do now to alleviate the stress of an airline asking me to show proof, I go online to onwardticket.com the day of or before my flight and pay $15 for a real flight itinerary to my home country that stays on the reservation system for 48 hours.

    Been to Bogota twice directly from DC too! Flew Avianca both times, I didn't have an issue because I was always round trip. They are strict on their rules though, my friend tried to make a trip a few days after I arrived and he forgot his passport at home so he had a friend try to get it in time before the plane boarded. They are super strict that once an hour is breached before take off you can't get on the flight. My friend got his passport just at the hour mark and was denied boarding, he had to eat the ticket.

    • @NomadicJayye2021

      They are definitely strict compared to competing airlines. I try to avoid them if there are other options. Their website can be woonky at times. Sometimes you can go through the whole booking process to only get an error message at the end. They still owe my $99 because I went through the process twice and they double charged me. I contacted them on many occasions but got no response.

    We are flying into Bogota a couple of days before Christmas, we are staying in el Dorado airport to take our next flight to Pereira (2 hours after we land). Do you know if we can go though ‘connecting flights’ although our ticket is not technically connecting? We purchased it separately, or do you think we have to go through security since it’s not connecting? Are you saying the airline charged you to print out your ticket from Quito to Colombia? Which means we need to print our ticket for the Pereira flight (thru Viva Colombia)? I typically use the airline app for an eticket. Thank you so much for any info you share!

    • @NomadicJayye2021
      @NomadicJayye2021  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Diana Romero - I'm assuming you are arriving from outside of Colombia. The airport is basically broken down into two section: International and Domestic flights. Once you have gone through Migracion (immigration) and as you pass through the baggage area, you are going to see a sign that says domestic connection. Just follow the sign I'm assuming you will still have to check in with the airline to get a boarding pass which will allow you to access the electronic gates for the Domestic flights. I have to admit you are cutting it really close with only two hours between flights. Depending on the time of day, the lines between immigration and the airlines can be really long.
      As for as the other issue - I was talking about the airline Avianca forcing me to purchase a ticket back to the US. Up to that point I had only being buying one way tickets to my destinations. Technically i was supposed to have a return ticket to my home country. Some airlines enforce that requirement and some don't. It wasn't an issue with Copa and American Airlines, but Avianca would not let me fly until I purchased a ticket to my home country after Colombia.

      @@NomadicJayye2021 thank you so much for your detailed response!!! You are correct, we are flying from the US and didn’t know if we needed to ‘re-enter’ the airport to check in for our next flight, which based on your response we do need to allow more time to check in and get to the domestic flight area. We will go ahead and change to a later flight time to Pereira. Again, thank you so much for your help!!

      @@dianaromero7485 the distance between immigration and domestic flights is not that far. The airport is not that big by US standards. Your real concern is the amount of time you have to stand in line to get a boarding pass. The domestic flight area can be really crowded and the airlines can be really slow handling customers. Everything you said about landing at this airport is spot on the most important thing for people that have to travel back to the United States is there is a rapid covid testing site right at the end of the parking lot across the street from the airport you will need to go in there as soon as you get to the airport you need to be at the airport at least 5 hours ahead of your departure time because the lines are extremely long and I think they charge maybe $100 but you get your results 20 minutes back through email on your phone you show that to the flight attendants inside of the airport and you will be able to board & go through immigration which you will need to do very quickly because the lines are extremely long when people are trying to go home I tried to get a covid test the day before I was to leave and go back to the United State & they would not take that so they told me at the airport just go across the street at the end of the parking lot and take a covid test and you get the results back in minutes and once I did that I was able to go through immigration with no problem which is a very big stress reliever

    Good video. I didnt see the money changers so close to.bag claim
    But im glad you did show that. The most important thing to tell everyone. As far im concerned i use taxis exclusively but i know the city well. And Uber sort of are ruining a good tradition in Bogota. Jobs are terribly scarce for workers who have no.ability to own a car. The taxidrivers lease by the day. Ohhh and the call from the parking lot is a serious breach. Dont risk it.

      @ Kenneth Bretell - You are probably right about taxis, but unfortunately they still have a bad reputation among foreigners. Everything I saw or read online before visiting Bogota was to avoid the taxis if all possible because of unfair charges or possible kidnappings. I'm sure these stories are no longer true but they are still out there. I was prepared to take a taxi if Uber wasn't available, but fortunately for me I was able to get one.
