I was there in March 2023 and bought a 10GB Claro SIM card with unlimited calling at the convenience store good for 30 days, it was around $13 USD. As soon as I activated it I got an extra 12GB for free. As someone said you have to register it after a certain amount of time but I was only there for 2 weeks so it worked perfectly for me. The people at the convenience store don't speak english but a kind local who happened to be sitting in the seating area helped translate for me.

Your information is spot on! I was there in October and bought a card for supposedly 30 days' worth of data. I only used it for outdoors/where Wi-Fi was not available and it lasted 6 days, oh well! The woman set it up for me no problem, at 1 o'clock in the morning. Thank you!!

Nope. You use your cedula or passport to purchase your SIM card. The card will be blocked after 29-30 days if you won't register the IMEI of your cell phone device. A standard anti-theft regulation.
