I saw a video of a baby bird so hell bent on being fed that a mantis was able destroy the inside of its mouth slicing away with its mandibles to the point it was covered in blood but did the bird think to close its mouth? Nope just kept it open thinking it was going to get food to the point its inner mouth was so messed up there was no way that thing lived.

At first I was disgusted, but then you realize that the digestive system of baby birds are super simple so the food doesn’t really get broken down and most of the nutrients don’t get absorbed. They take in like 20% of the value from what they are fed and then the mama/papa bird gets the 80%, not in the most graceful way, but it works.

@Zoro Senpai it's true baby birds don't have very good digestive systems but birds that young give a high enough nutional poop that the parrents don't have to go eat as much and avoid being spotted from smell and keep there babys clean at the same time there isn't a toilet in the nest so where do you think it goes?

Baby birds has a super-fast digestion system. The poop out a large amount of undigested food, so the parent eats it to help with their nutrition during the nesting season.

It can be their downfall too. I saw a video of a baby bird so hell bent on being fed that a praying mantis was able destroy the inside of its beak/mouth by slicing away at it with its razor sharp mandibles to the point it was covered in its blood, but did the baby bird think to close its mouth? Nope just kept it open thinking it was going to get food to the point its inner mouth was so messed up there was no way that thing lived. The Mantis didn’t even have to try keep the beak open, the bird done all the hard work for it keeping it as wide as possible as the Mantis kept eating away at the lining of the inside of its mouth. It was incredibly interesting to see something take advantage of a baby birds absolute greed to be fed over the other birds in its nest and become the meal instead.
When a predator lands and the chick doesn't know the difference, that shaking and begging for food is the last thing they'll ever do.
Their instinct to be fed is what also makes them a meal to another bird.
I just spent 4 minutes watching mama bird eat their babies' poop... -___-

This nest was blown down and humans decided to put it back up with twine. I’ve seen this done by this channel many times. They also send their pet snakes to attack the nest for views. It’s the same gold snake every time.

This is the first video where I seen mommy eats poos. Disgusting yet fascinating. Didn’t know it worked like this. Definitely have to give more credit to the birds for keeping a clean nest.
I don't think that's how it works for all bird species. I know a few bigger birds just regularly toss out dirty nest material and replace it with fresh new sticks/moss/grass/whatever. But this species, and a bunch of others, have babies whose poop is wrapped up in a sort of sack internally before it gets pooped out, making it much easier for the parents to keep the nest clean since the ficis aren't like liquid spattered all over the place. Never knew that some species actually *eat* the sack, though.

What they're trying to do is make sure it fits and catches on a certain part of their throat so they actually swallow it properly. But most birds are very simple animals, so they often end up putting it in one of the mouths and taking it out until the chick swallows it or she decides it won't fit and eats it herself.
