  • Winter fishing... where do you even start?!? These simple steps will help you locate fish and quickly find productive water. There is nothing worse than fishing and fishing without knowing if you're even around fish. We've got your covered!
    Bass will position in different locations and depths based on water temperature and weather. Most bass spend the Winter in deep water to insulate themselves from the cold surface temperatures. There are two circumstances that will draw fish out of the depths. Those circumstances rising water and warm afternoon sun.
    In this video we'll explain how the fish move, why they move, and what baits you can use to efficiently locate and catch Winter bass.

    I personally like the in depth videos these guys make to try and make us all better fisherman. I’m just a couple of years into it and still learning the sport and I have learned a lot from these guys. It’s all about what your looking for in a fishing video though. It’s fun to watch them catch big bass as well. There’s really not a whole lot of you tubers that go in great depth like these guys. Awesome videos guys! Keep it up!

    Good to see i am not the only one out there forgetting things. Forgot the keys one time and didn't realize until launch time, 4 hours from home on a 4 day "fishing" / camping trip, figured out how to hotwire my boat though. What is the impact with water clarity in the winter? It is not caused by run off, I mean like 1 to 2 feet visibility on a good day. Thanks for sharing, absolutely love the content so far this year!

    Another great video! Winter can be tough for sure. Don’t get caught up watching the videos of Matt catching 10 fish and expect to do the same. He is a great angler and really knows his home waters. I fish 12 months a year and I can tell you my last 3 outings since NYE produced 6 fish total from me and two other people. Damn Matt. It's like you knew what was coming for me. Haha. Threw one of your recommended finess jigs from the previous video in beryessa on saturday. Now, I only had 15-30min of plugging time because the old man wanted to haul some trout. Anyway, found a nice cove in one the southern fingerlings, half shaded with calm wind. Water was 54°. Threw the jig towards on of the banks and dragged it slowly towards the hollow of the cove ~15feet. Did that about 3 times and hammered a fat little chunk. 3lbs. Got my fix, old man got his trout. It was awesome. Seriously your tips have helped alot. Thabks alot.I think more so than anything it gave me a lot of confidence and that changes evertrhing for me. Thanks again.

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Eric! Thanks for reaching out. Tim and I did a bunch of videos around the spawn last year and will do more soon but essentially, you're going off of moon phase and fish behavior. If you're around the full moon and you start getting short strikes cast after cast to the same location, you're on a spawner. Keep in mind, there might be a female there too so don't just give up right away after catching a little male.

      I fish at a couple of local reservoirs. Usually, I can only scrape together 3 hours max, so I stay nearby. Lafayette Reservoir and Los Vaqueros this time of year. Both are in Contra Costa County. I try some bank fishing from a couple of smaller ponds/lakes too. Lafayette Reservoir is my favorite. It’s small, trout stocked, and, I’m told, there are big bass waiting there for me. Um, they just haven’t managed to find me yet. ;)
      Thanks as always! Really look froward to all your videos!

    So I’ve been trying to catch some fish all winter now and I’ve tried everything I can think of and listen to your videos and gotten some bites but haven’t been able to land anything since November. Most the fish I’ve seen on my cheap electronics are suspended I haven’t see any fish on bottom the lowest I’ve seen one was 5 foot off the bottom in 30 feet of water. I got that bite a drop shot after dead sticking and dragging it for a few hours. I was definitely fishing like it was summer for most of the winter till I realized how slow I needed to be drag or let the current take my bait and dead stick. I was just hoping to maybe get some advice on using cheaper electronics properly and how to catch suspended fish I need to put more time into the float fly you guys just talked about in a recent video but any advice would be greatly appreciated. I live in Northern California I fish lake of the pines in Auburn I know Tim lived in lake of the pines I actually met him one day with some friends when he was fishing one day before I started watching your guys vids and wish I knew who you were I woulda asked you a lot of questions. I hope you guys could give me some tips on how to catch these fish in the winter it’s been 2 winters of just struggling I could really use some help. I don’t know if I should drag or work bottom on these fish that are suspended at a lot of different depths. If you guys got some time to give me some advice I’d really appreciate it thanks!

    So, Matt... if you didn't bring your boat keys, how did you get the boat back on the trailer?

    love the vids but there is a situation i need help on .. river spotties and largies from bank !! how ?? baits?? lines??

      We did a video about "current smallies" this Spring. Search for it because what we're doing will apply to spots and largies too. Even though we're cranking you could be drifting it with slower baits from shore.

      was throwing sinnerbait skertless with a walmart kvd padle tail .creeping bottom , it was working but once it got darker the bite died . what do u think about cranking from shore in current

    Hey when your talking “cold water”, how cold is that... lakes here in SoCal are 55-58 degrees.

      For Socal, that's pretty cold. Its all relative.

    you guys talk about the Trash Fish often (well Tim more) have you tried the Berkley Sick Fish? looks real similar but little smaller in size. thanks for the morning laugh it was needed.

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The sick fish is an exact replica of the original trash fish but its poured in a plastic that is much too stiff. You're wayyyyyy better off with the trash fish.

    What about suspended fish in the winter time? I have stained water in a 53 acre lake and I mark fish in 24ft, but they'll be like 10ft off the bottom.

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm... they may or may not be bass. Depends on what their forage is.

    My worst one happen last summer. I unloaded the boat had it tied off to the dock idling no problem. I park the jeep. I then proceed to lock the door with the fob throw my key in the seat and shut the door.Thankfully I had a spare in the boat.

    Hey guys, I have a question I'm sure other anglers have too. If you only have one fish finder unit, which location do you think is better: the bow or console?

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guided with 1 for years and I put it at the console but on a swivel so I could spin it around and see if from the front. -Matt

    maybe you should organize your fishing rod racks in your house and group the medium power rods together, the medium-heavy together...... that might make early mornings a little easier

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL the irony is that's how they're done... these particular rods were off the rack after a trip a few days ago.
