I have a Dyson air purifier that runs in my living room and I’ve started noticing recently how the level of VOC’s goes up when I wash clothes so I’ve been doing some research on how to replace my detergent. This was a very helpful video, thanks for putting it together! I just ordered Molly’s Suds arriving tomorrow. Can’t wait too try it out
Hi there thank you for the informative video! I’ve been reviewing tons of vids to see how I can make baby safe laundry detergent for my home. I want to add lavender essential oils to it but I’m not quite understanding if I add drops of oil directly to the mixture? Or Add into the washing machine when I add the detergent?
Thank you for watching!!! You add the drops directly to the laundry powder and mix it well. This will keep the oil from just sitting on top of the water like it would if you just added it directly to the water. The recipe that is in the description should give you the amounts.
Are there natural fragrances that you could add in to add a scent? I've never In my life used scented detergent because it gives me terrible allergies. But are there things that you could add in to give clothes a scent? Like an oil or some type of something?
I have tried so many EWG approved and lower scored detergents. My problem is that I use natural deodorant and I sweat a lot. I have not been able to find any detergent that can get armpit area clean. I continue to stain clothes that can never be worn again and it is so frustrating. Any pointers or pre stain treatments that you would recommend? The recent ones I tried were attitude and truly free. I will definitely try Molly suds next.
I would pretreat with the detergent for a few hours in the armpit area and then wash. Also try detoxing your armpits with activated charcoal. It’s common to have your issue when switching to a non-toxic deodorant.
That’s one I have trouble with too. I know I saw what they say helps somewhere but for the life of me I can’t remember. Let me see if I can find what I saw.
Castile soap is probably best as Fels Naptha has some questionable ingredients and I think Zote might have fragrance which is my #1 no no ingredient. The liquid Castile works if you’re doing a liquid detergent but the recipe in the video is a powder.
Hello, thank you for your helpful and insightful video. By any chance have you ever used BioKleen detergent? And since making this video have you stayed and continue using Molly suds?
I have not used BioKleen before. Yes I still love Mollys Suds. They just came out with a 2 in 1 detergent with their natural icy booster added to the laundry powder.
Really enjoyed this. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I'm gonna go ahead and try mollys suds. I've tried Branch basics myself too and had a similar experience.
Molly's Suds is good but the downside is some of the products can't be easily found in stores. I don't know why that is. You would think they want to be seen and make it so that someone shopping sees it on a store shelf gets it there too. The active formula seems to work well to get rid of the stains on pillow cases. I am sure some of their other products work well for that too but I have not tried them yet. I don't usually stock a whole lot of detergent. I only have two bags of the active formula since it was a little bit cheaper buying it that way.
Thanks for watching!! We are using the Molly’s Suds currently only because I found for my 3 boys that are in sports it works better to get the boy stink out.
Thanks for watching! U fortunately this is a powder detergent so you couldn’t use the liquid Castile soap. There are recipes making a liquid detergent you could use the liquid Castile soap.
Dr. Shauna, what do you think about Persil ?? I have been using it and I like it for the cleaning capabilities and the nice scent! I am contemplating buying Seventh Generation and trying it!
I went to EWG.com and they rated Persil detergent a F due to bad ingredients. They do ratings on most products and their ingredients and that’s where I check most of our products in our house.
Thanks! I may just try the Seventh Generation laundry detergent! I’m a single man so I don’t have to worry about a family’s laundry, just mine! I heard many years ago that Tide has known carcinogens in it!! My mother used Tide all the time! Coincidently, she had cancer! It may have caused it!! I’ve never used Tide myself! Thanks, this info is great!!
Molly’s Suds mostly, but I’m going to try a brand that’s called Pure Haven next. They have a bunch of truly non-toxic products. I’ve used their skin care line and love them.
I have seen a lot of people be very sensitive to the synthetic fragrances. The essential oils as a natural fragrance tend to be less of an issue for those people.
Hi! Do you still use the Molly’s Super Powder? If so have you tried any of the fragrances and do you use it on all your clothes including delicates and colors? I just tried the regular but had to buy the whitener and would love to have both in one product and if possible use it on all clothes. Do you use cold and warm/hot water with this detergent? Thanks!
Thank you for watching! I do still use Mollys Suds. I generally wash in cold water but have used it in warm/hot water as well. I found the super powder works well for us in place of the regular powder. I do add whitener to the super powder for some loads from time to time. I hope this answers your questions.
@@HealingStartsFromWithin it’s my new favorite thing! My clothes smells so fresh and don’t have a chemical feel to them. They even hang omg my body different, the fibers hugging my body a bit better. Hello Dr. Shauna, I currently use a plant-based laundry detergent with lavender and fabric conditioner without dyes and perfumes. Do you have another recommendation? From Miami, FL

Thank you for watching!! Molly’s Suds super powder works great for me and they have a regular powder and I’m pretty sure there’s one for more delicate fabrics.
Not a lot, other than learning the ph isn’t a good fit for use as a hand soap, because it can dry the skin out. The recipe is for powder so the Dr. Bonners wouldn’t be good since it’s liquid.

I love your videos , what do you recommend for cleaning products that does not lower testosterone, I’ve been researching a lot and I always find at least one ingredient that’s bad for hormones
Cleaning products are tough for sure. I usually use white vinegar, water and blue Dawn, but the Dawn doesn’t have the best ingredients either. I use the more natural one but it still has dyes in it. Seventh generation I use some and branch basics has a concentrate you add to water that is a pretty good option.
Actually the Mollys Sud’s we put into a glass container and don’t keep in the regular packaging. I also used to keep the DIY brand in a glass airtight jar as well. The seventh generation and Branch basics were options I mentioned but not my favorites.

How does Zote compare to Fells Napha and Castile bar soap? Is liquid Castile okay as well?
