Thanks for the video! There's a lot of features hidden in the game. 1. During battle, you can use the camp menu to switch party members, chain combos, map items etc. but will have cooldown of 30 secs. 2. Elena VA is useful to: - unlock enemy info in stop mode. You can see this in 4:29. - unlock enemy element resistance & weakness and icons will show beside enemy name when NOT in stop mode. - if u dont use Elena, you can only see enemy info in the enemies section of the guide.
Yeah there is a lot of stuff you have to figure out on your own in this game lol. I actually really like this game though, was worried it would be another disaster but Tri-Ace came through with this one.
If you set items in chain combos in the menu your characters will use them on their own, which helps out a lot while you're concentrating on a big boss. Likewise, they WILL follow your chain combos you set up on them. This can screw things up in a battle with an aerial boss if your characters are trying to melee it, but it also means you can set them to do the attacks you want them to use AND what order to use them in to better time their damage output. :) Holding VA at various times to guard is quite viable. You can definitely charge up to an enemy to attack in the air and then hold the VA button to block a counterattack, then strike again to keep the combo going. VA also requires 2 AP to use, which is easy to forget. Both AP and the VA gauge can be filled/increased by performing perfect dodges, so finding an attack you can reliably perfect dodge is immensely helpful in a boss fight. Guts also apparently works like in Earthbound, giving a chance to survive hits with 1HP, which explains why your up-close-and-personal healer get a TON of it. Yes indeed. Enfeeble ftw. XD Also, if you're on a BIG board, USE BERSERKERS. The special pieces (SO characters) have absurdly high attack stats and on a big board, they're harder to surround and remove from the board. You can rapidly turn up the heat on your opponent early on with a couple well placed Berserker pieces.
I just bought it. I thought this was a PS exclusive so didn't even bother looking into it (loved SO3 and 4), didn't discover it was on Xbox until an on-sale notice popped up in the MS store.
Thanks for the info., i had just started the game so its all new to me. I wont have an opportunity to do all of this you recommend right away but I will like your video so i can go back to it later on. I got stuck at a part early in the game that I couldnt get passed (the big blue mother worm)... I knew then there were a lot i missed about combos and such. thanks again :)
Great tips! Awful PC performance issues and Denuvo aside, I am loving it so far. Best since SO3 I think. Really glad they mostly got it right, and hopefully saved the series! The fast travel warning threw me for a loop... originally was running back to every town after every quest beat because I wasn't sure what would be missed, but further into the game that was no longer viable so just started ignoring it.
I'm so glad that they brought back the 2 different starting characters. One of those things that made SO2 stand out for me. I liked Claude more but Dias was one of my favorite, so I had to play a Rena run. Also named my son (in the profile pic) Ashton after Ashton Anchors
me too, but at the same time it means making a choice you have no idea the consequenses of, choose raymond and you get jj way later on, but if you choose laeticia you can get theo instead
Great and valuable video, considering there aren't any complete guides out for this game yet! FYI - I couldn't access the fast travel feature after unlocking it as my PS5 controller binding had the map bound to circle, so pressing it again would close it out instead of opening the world map. Re-bound to R2 after seeing your setup. Loving the game regardless of the naysayers. Thanks!
While Star Ocean historically had many similarities to Star Trek and "The Matrix", "The Divine Force" has elements similar to "Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future" and "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century". For example, Scorpium has many similarities to Captain Power's "Bio Dread Empire" with humans digitized into machines, and then you have autonomous living machines like DUMA.
That’s a pretty interesting comparison, I never really thought about it like that. For the longest time I always saw Star Ocean similar to Phantasy Star
I really appreciate this, thank you. I bought it. Gonna play it when off work. The only one I haven't played is 2 because I can't figure out where I can play it...
Awesome tips! I still advise to sell crafted or smitten items early on if the outcome are items without factors so you always have some Fol with you. Come mid-game and you unlocked more and more possibilites to craft items, then i would hold on to these items. On top, the menu is cluttered anyways so getting rid of 10 sacrificial bunnies instead of always having to scroll past them is a plus in book.
I've noticed that a lot of markable items In star ocean divine force are completely random and not set in stone a good example of this is the range of candy bars you can make all of which restore a bit of health but which also have various secondary effects like boosting your intelligence for a short period of time and all of which use similar items but you may not always get exactly the same result
and ONLY PLAY on earth mode for the ENTIRE game the beat the game on Universe/chaos MODE ONLY requires to KILL the LAST boss then the other 99.9% of the game can STILL be DONE on earth mode.
Nina can only heal allies, but not herself unless equipped with a certain item, she also can't attack directly, she only has AOE spells. Magic users in SO have always kinda sucked. Wish Tri-Ace would fix this.
Just discovered this last night when I did the Fused Velanj battle and Nina does not get aggro. It's also quite easy to top up AP points using her whenever you start losing them from being pummeled by bosses.
I did try this today it did not work the way I hope just shows you have a side quest not where it is, it is odd to even that is not in the mane start menu however so this is helpful but won't show you where to go. it well let you fast travel if you dune with a quest
So....I have played every Star Ocean that has ever released on a console, minus this one. However, I did purchase the game the day it dropped for our PS5. You see, my fiancee is a diehard gamer like myself and she a PlayStation girl and I'm more of an Xbox gamer. Her birthday hit a week after release and this is one game she wanted for our PS5. Now, she normally loves JRPG's but this game has infuriated her so much she put it down. If you're knew her like I do you would be shocked. She's just like me in that no game is to challenging and usually she will keep playing until the game is done. I will be starting my playthrough tomorrow morning...in roughly 6 hours. She isn't telling me what the issue is but I'm going to show her this video before I begin to play. Thankfully, I picked up another game for her on the Switch but I can't remember what it was off the top of my head (the newest JRPG release for the Switch). We also went pre-order crazy with God of War Ragnorok, Calisto Protocol, Dead Space, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Tactics Ogre. That's two copies each minus Ragnorok as it is a PlayStation exclusive.
Im playing on a PS5 and was looking for an option to make the font larger for like 10 minutes straight. I thought "no way they make a font this tiny"...
I’m just glad it allows us to skip cut scenes and dialogue. Worst thing about jrpg’s are the story and voice acting. Everything is so cheesy anime I can’t take it. I’m only around for the battle engines.

So glad there are other Star Ocean fans out there. I've been hooked since the Second Story which I still hop on every now and then.
I feel like being able to fly longer distances with duma should be a field upgrade

Ah yeah, that change party members tip is a good one. Thanks for sharing 👍
If this is the last star ocean we get I think they did a good job.
Scifi jrpgs are my favourite so it's a bit of a bummer.
There's no reason this will be the last. There's been a positive reception. Hopefully it has sold well.
I'm very pleased with this so far, tons of fun, fast paced, pretty world. I pray this revitalizes the franchise
Fingers crossed on that one!
This is cool. I look forward to your final review when you put a big number on it.
Yeah! It's coming soon!
I really love the idea of the people from the underdeveloped planet being immersed in all this Tech.

Some good tips there. I haven't really experimented too much with item combos yet. Would be good to test the millions of charms I have created.
Love the natural banter they have.

Nina is the one you want to train up for crafting. She makes a lot of handy things like SP seeds that Laticia can't make.
Intentional or not, that clip at 1:48 was perfect timing with the commentary 👌😏

They better have had fast travel. I did enough backtracking in SO3 to last me a lifetime.
The performance on PC has been a big let down for me too.

I really hate the amount of basic pawns that clog up the inventory. I want to keep them for item shop quests, but they're so annoying there.
How am I liking Star Ocan 6? I'm loving it!! I have some minor complaints but I love it!!
A few QoL additions would be nice. Increase font size and show defeated esowa players are the big ones for me.

No problem 👍
The best modern star ocean
It's actually my favourite. Will be doing a ranking video soon

Awesome. Got three SO videos planned for the next month 😀

Nice tip yo
beautifull game to a beautiful series ^_^, though i wouldnt recomend this as a first SO, i just beat it, some stuff gets named dropped hard
You should play star ocean 2 first because it's awesome :p
this game is great

dont know whats wrong in your case, nina always heals herself too without any special gear. never had that issue with her.
Tales has done pretty good about it, especially in Arise. It's super fun to play heals

This series as a whole has a very big problem with interface issues and poorly explained mechanics
