Such an incredibly powerful message by a young man well-read in the classics. Educators today have it all wrong thinking they're going to raise a new generation of wise empaths by banning books and erasing and rewriting history instead of discussing and contextualizing it.
Photographer Roland Scherman recalls the significance of this performance: "When it was Dylan's turn to do a set - I think it was Saturday night - he sang for a huge crowd, I'm sure the biggest crowd he'd ever sung in front of. But he didn't just sing those mournful ballads; it was really a performance. He was funny; he did 'I'll Let You Be in My Dream if I Can Be in Yours.' The crowd loved him. Standing ovation. And by the end of the weekend, he was the one star. Peter Paul and Mary and Pete Seeger and Joan Baez and The Freedom Singers were all his back-up group while he did 'Blowin' in the Wind.' It was his emergence from just a songwriter to the grand guru, grand poobah of all folk music. From just that little kid. By the end of the weekend he was untouchable."
I was there that cool Newport night. This is the first time I've seen this one. I am covered in goose pimples. Thank you so very much. Now, if you can find Dock Boggs playing Oh Death, the fog coming in, stage lights hitting the fog, I can die happy.
Going electric, braving the criticism. Brilliant. He may have taken a cue from the blues players who plugged in once they came up to Chicago from the south. In any case, an idea whose time had come.
I never was able to listen to Dylan in the '80s when I first got into music. My favorite was David Bowie who was a huge fan of Dylan. Now starting in 2020 I started listening to Dylan's music. He has some amazing songs and albums. So glad there is a youtube and Alexa where music is free. In the '80s had to buy every album.
So exciting !!! Evebody there..he introduces....Still get chills....bdylan leading ....so much Direction...everyone's beauriful harmonies.. J Baez 's super high notes ..just a great moment
True but what difference does it make? Here in 2022 very little has changed. And whatever was learnt from the turbulent 20th century will soon be forgotten. New people will come along and the whole process will start again.
Joo tohle už je bohužel nenávratně pryč. To byl ještě svět normální a v pořádku. Tenhle člověk, Bob Dylan, to byl básník. Díky, že jsem mohl aspoň chvíli být součástí té doby. Pak už to šlo jenom z kopce.
How many roads must a man walk down Before you call him a man? How many seas must a white dove sail Before she sleeps in the sand? Yes, and how many times must the cannonballs fly Before they're forever banned? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind how many years must a mountain exist Before it is washed to the sea? And how many years can some people exist Before they're allowed to be free? Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head And pretend that he just doesn't see? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind how many times must a man look up Before he can see the sky? And how many ears must one man have Before he can hear people cry? Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows That too many people have died? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind

Momenti leggendari. Spesso ci si dimentica quanta strada hanno fatto artisti come Bob Dylan.
Bob resterà per sempre nella storia come il più grande musicista poeta

First time i'd seen this, and you made it come alive.
Hm, 'grand poobah' (from the character Poo-Bah in a Gilbert & Sullivan opera) is not really a compliment... 😉
22 years old!
Interesting, comment ....

One of a kind talent
Bob Dylan just somehow stepped higher in my estimation. Truly awesome human being.
Joan Baez’s voice simply soars as a backing counterpoint for Bob’s raw vocals!
Made me weep it’s so beautiful
greatest song writer in history by a country mile
No. John Prine. Easily wins that title. Sorry
Johnny cash is second. Then Bob.
What about Gordon Lightfoot?
What about Kristofferson?
@@UdayanGupta62 You are right.

I believe that music or art is often not made with the idea to change the world, but to help you see it for what it is.
Une merveille et que de merveilleux souvenirs
Joan Baez was for sure the voice that overpowered everyone on stage. With her tone and tremolo she could really belt it out!
Phil Ochs rocked big time!
Que potência na voz, meu Deus que isso
JUST FANTASTIC
So nice was the era as well
😮how was he so wise so young❤
World is fucked without with likes of no bob Dylan knocking around. . I can play but cant write like bob.

Thank you so much! What a beautiful treasure!🙌🤍
Phantastisch, wunderschön!!!
The 'point' perhaps is that history repeats as do our mistakes.
Quand on voit comment l'auteur de cette merveille la massacre en chantant, il est admirablement magnifique, grandiose, inégalable !!

Dylan went too high here, it's plain to see the rest were having troubles following him..
Wouldn't hurt to give the Freedom Singers an extra fucking mic!
I think he just wants to go home, probably tired.
Jesus! What a dirge. No wonder he went electric.
