      I bloody hate those! Surprise surprise on my latest Stihl brush cutter they have done away with that cap and gone back to a " normal" type cap.

    Yes this was the problem exactly. Thanks. I was tired of forking around with that forking gas cap every time I filled up the gas on my Stihl weed eater. I note that my newer Stihl chain saw has a normal screw gas cap which works fine.

    Very helpful. Dog watching for a friend, decided to do a "side project" with his Stihl. I thought I broke the silly "cap" just checking the fuel. The person who thumbed this down is a moron and has never had this issue. Integrity on the internet is hard to find, thanks.

    I think the new design Stihl fuel and bar oil caps are a very poor design in many ways.
    It’s almost impossible to pre clean the area before removing the caps , to many voids to wipe off with a rag or brush. Then dirt and debris fall inside the fuel tank and the bar oil tank to cause for sure future blockages to filter and bar oil pump .
    I wish I could put the original screw on all my Stihl equipment. It was much easier to wipe the old style filler caps clean before opening them. And I absolutely hate the fight and trouble of the new caps not going on and latching down on the first attempt & sometimes many attempted failed try’s. I have a lot of Stihl equipment/ Tools and they are very good. But what the ... those filler caps piss everyone off .
    I all ways keep a multi tool saw wrench-screwdriver with my fuel can . Its part of the basics everyone should keep together. Used to be so easy and clean. Now I’m wondering if the extremely talented German Engineer that made this rubrics cube filler cap ever goes out and works up a sweat and then try’s to put it back on in a rush or at a normal pace with steamed up safety glasses on ?
    I know of all the people I’ve worked around , all have trouble with the reinstall of the Stihl filler caps .
    Wish Stihl would do a recall on these and go back to the original type or a faster and simpler way.

    Borrowed one of these for a small job. The caps alone are enough for me to never buy one of these. Spent more time arsing about with them than using the saw.

      You can use something soft like a firm piece of plastic to "encourage"the bottom part of the cap to rotate. haven't broken mine yet and it's been err 4 years? :)

    Because the trick didn't work for the oil tank cap, I tried pressing the middle part of it down with a screw driver. No-one's finger fit into the space. I succeeded. Also the fuel tank cap got closed by pressing the middle part down. Before succeeding I had failed maybe one million times with each of them.

    • @morganevans1837
      @morganevans1837  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      good to know by pressing. It really drove me insane for so long, I had no idea why it wouldn't seal properly.

  • @angelisone

    What happened to the threaded gas caps? They replaced them with these junk ones. The threaded ones were too easy I guess. Who doesn't want to spend 20 minutes trying to get your cap on properly?

    • @morganevans1837
      @morganevans1837  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a pretty bad design. Once you know how to get it to slide/rotate over it works fine. But I agree, whats wrong with screwing something on? It works in a million other applications.

  • @rorschacht8478
    @rorschacht8478 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's first gen quick cap, they have flaws. You can file down the notches just a hair so it'll slide easier. You can also buy much better aftermarket caps from china for like $2.50 on ebay, which is what I did a year ago and the quality of the cap seems better than original $35 stihl caps from the dealer, which is kind of ridiculous.

    • @thhesupercat
      @thhesupercat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your dealer must be a crook. I just bought a genuine Stihl cap from Madsen’s the other day for $5

    Yeah what a pile of shit design this is. Give me a regular screw on cap any day. Spent more time yesterday messing with the cap then i did cutting. Of course i was out in the woods and didn't have a small sharp object with me . Ran one tank and then used my little ms180 the rest of the day. Apparently these have been recalled for this cap. You might go check that out. I am calling on Monday
