These are the updates on the biggest land reclamation projects in Metro Manila.
The Pasay Reclamation Development Project in Manila Bay is a new and modern commercial and residential property development to be run by SM Prime Holding Incorporated. The project involves the reclamation of approximately 726 hectares through the construction of three artificial islands according to international standards to ensure a safe living environment. The islands have been designed to withstand potential large earthquakes. In addition, shore protection works are designed to withstand typhoons.
Horizon Manila is a 419-hectare reclamation project, consisting of three islands that will include industrial, and commercial projects, as well as public housing projects for the residents of the City of Manila. It has been described as one of the biggest reclamation projects in Manila Bay. The city built on scratch is mapped into three islands, arranged east to west with long faces along the north-south axis, with a 4-kilometer-long canal park, as the main connecting feature in between the isles. The canal park, not only connects the three islands but also provides Horizon with a public park at its core that stretches all the way to the water's edge, ensuring that Manila Bay sunset, will always belong to the public.
Solar City Manila is a mixed-used development to be built on 148-hectare reclaimed land in Manila Bay. Adjacent to the north of the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex, and west of the Manila Yacht Club. Equipped with the latest technology with renewable and sustainable energy. Manila Solar City stands as a benchmark of today’s City’s development and progress. As part of the Manila-Cavite Coastal project envision several decades ago.
Navotas Boulevard Business Park is an under-construction commercial and business center in Navotas. It will rise on 650-hectare reclaimed land, and has been under construction since 2019. The development is envisioned to create a mixed-use community with residential, institutional, commercial, and industrial areas suitable for port facilities, marine, and tourism. Its master plan was designed by Surbana Jurong.
Pasay Harbor City Project is a 265-hectare reclaimed area between The Pasay Reclamation Development Project and Horizon Manila. The Project is part of the Pasay Eco City Grand Vision to build a sustainable, eco-friendly, and world-class metropolis, consistent with its mission to promote the quality of life of its people. To date, the project has already reclaimed 117 hectares of submerged lands above water, a testament to the capabilities of PHCC and its EPC contractor Netherlands-based Royal Boskalis Westminster as one of the world's top dredging companies.
The proposed New Manila Bay City of Pearl, located at the heart of Manila is deemed canceled. The 407 hectares of land is the biggest self-sustaining Smart City in Asia, planned to host more than 500,000 citizens and create over 100,000 jobs.

You're just attracting too much people in Metro Manila. Why not develop the outlying areas. There's still a lot of open spaces in Clark Green City. Metro-Manila is overdeveloped and not much open spaces anymore for people to chill and enjoy the outdoors. The streets are becoming more chaotic because of the traffic and too much pollution. Nobody in the Government bring up the issue on garbage. It's a very bigggg!!!!!! issue they keep turning a blind eye on. When a foreigner visits the Philipines, that's the first thing they'll noticed after the ugly NAIA is the garbage on the street. I hope they'll add Wate Management as part of the infrastructure development.

For your info the cities of Metro Manila is clean and neat because the garbage in Metro Manila is very systematic. Every morning the garbage in Metro Manila are taken by garbage trucks, Look around at Makati City, Taguig City (BGC), Pasig City, Quezon City etc..they have a clean roads and sidewalks.

I'm from Mandaluyong City Metro Manila and I assure you that garbage is well taken of by the LGU/MMDA .
Right now I'm a resident of Japan and as I observed Japan is really a clean country especially here in their provinces because there are only few residents and you seldom see people walking in the streets - if you go and live at the city area like tokyo, osaka etc. you will notice the same garbage along the streets (bottles, plastic/paper wraps, etc.) maybe not so many because the streets in tokyo and the like are not comparable with the streets in Metro Manila where there are lots of people walking, tambay, maritess, etc. - significant reason is the weather (very cold especially during winter) you can't stay long outside your heated house or office/work.

First off, the Philippine Govt. should make affordable housing for the poor. It should be a priority as many are homeless or unable to afford to rent an apartment. Singapore has a very good planning program for the low-income population. Every time I visit the Philippines as a Balikbayan, my heart breaks to see homeless families living on the streets.

Very impressive. No one will help the Philippines except its people. And I have noticed this new Pilipino pride among its people is equating into visible progress and development of the country and its infrastructure. Hopefully, the standard of living of the people will also dramatically improve and rise. The Pilipino people deserves no less than to have the Philippines stand proudly and happily among the most progressive nation of the world.

Reclamation is the only way to slow down conversion of agricultural land into residential and commercial land. Most of the lands in the Philippines are fertile and best used for growing foods. However, the population of the country is not slowing down. So, to cope up with the fast-growing population and to avoid stressing agricultural lands, we have to reclaim lands. It is not happening only in the Philippines. Other countries have done this way long before the Philippines.

Why wouldn't the Philippines welcome foreigners to come here? Stop thinking Filipinos will be forever poor that couldn't afford a house. I have a feeling and I trust that majority of the Filipinos will have a better life in the future. If only every single Filipino will strive to make their lives better, there would be fewer poor people depending on alms and dole out cash from the government. Mindset is a powerful motivator. Start with ourselves.

Unfortunately, none of any of these projects have allocated a percentage of the development for low-income families that could truly afford to live in those areas. In essence, it’s geared to push out the working poor ( look at China today). All these are approved by local and national governments.

Reclamation projects are not for low income cause it is expensive to develop. They are meant to attract businesses and high income individuals. The benefits for the low income with this project are high quality job opportunities to improve their lives. And the benefits of the govt is taxes that may help the low income individuals.
There are some govt projects meant for low income like free or low cost housing. The problems with this people though are they sell this house after they get the grant from govt and create a cycle of problem for the govt.

Yes, I do believe that some or actually a lot sold their units. Perhaps, a lesson to learn here is to take into account experiences of the past and make a provision that this will not happen again.
Here in the States, a percentage of a development(particularly in rich areas)are slated to be sold to low income earners. It is advertised as such but do not really know if that is happening. I do know that before the project is approved, it goes through a rigid approval process. I also know of a low income Filipino family that was able to get into such a project ( with the help of their kids).
Simply said, I see a lot of housing developments in the Metro Manila but all are geared for the upper middle class and upwards( based on their price tags).Only hope the govt address housing for the poor.

But these new cities being created only have houses for high end customers - Condos and Apartments and nothing for low income workers. In the end these migrants will become informal settlers, expect a new slum area to be born.

If you actually know how to solve the problems of the Philippines, why not make an impact, write a letter to the President and send your concern, or better yet, study urban planning and give yourself a shot at actively working on future projects for the government. Criticizing the government through TH-cam comments won't make an impact, it is futile.
