At 65, I just love watching young people doing what I can't do out in the cold anymore. I really appreciate that you do these videos with all your clothes on, unlike many others. You have mad skills!
You have nailed it.
This person has real skills.
Had to chuckle at the "young people" comment, as I'm 69. Also agree with your comments about her keeping her clothes on. One of my favorite channels.
IKR, there are many other channels of girls camping which show otherwise.@@deaconmn
I'm getting up there and I'm keep pushing so I'm watching these guys now so I'll have them on my channels when my old knees and back finally goes lol
Great video, I agree I think there are definitely hard times coming and maybe not to far away. There's a certain amount of preparing and readiness we all need to be to survive in a somewhat off grid situation, we prolonged power outages and have a certain amount of food storage to sustain our selfs for periods of time
As a retired Marine, I really appreciate your mind set. Always push yourself. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Semper Fi!!!
eurah
I agree.
A Military Career is a great thing to have in order to deal with the harshness and hostility of the real world.
Your best kind of video. One person in the woods, using what you can carry. More of this, please.
Noted! Thanks!
I appreciate your honesty. I also appreciate the fact that you’re not promenading around half naked. Nice change and I look forward to seeing you complete the challenges you set for yourself.
"Sucking at something is the first step in being really good at something."
Thanks for the video
This is how normal people learn.
Brilliant, just brilliant, love your attitude.
I totally agree with you on your take of bushcraft, so called training for hard times, and obtaining skills for life, and perhaps life saving.
There is nothing wrong with returning to basics with a tiny bit of modernity.
you are 100% correct. you are almost always safer in the woods even at night,, than 90% of inner cities at night. the forest has always been my refuge.
Agreed.
Hello from Northern Missouri, Careena, you doing great! I’m 66 & getting ready to retire in the spring , & currently live& work in in Iowa. My wife & I are going to move tho Missouri permanently to our place hereafter I retire.think it’s great your trying to teach people these skills. I also agree tough times are ahead. Hang in there kiddo your doing great!
I enjoyed your talk towards the end of the video Careena. 😃⛺️
Thanks so much Carl!! :) Always a pleasure to read your friendly comments!
Careena, I think you nailed that. People have become unable to be even mildly uncomfortable. I think prepping definitely involves learning to adapt to being uncomfortable….living outside a 70’ comfort level, hot or cold, self discipline of substances, getting outside your comfort level, etc…
We built a cabin in the BC wilderness back in the 1980s.. bought a 4wd and an acreage to experience waldon pond or so we thought.. reality quickly set in.. 3600', we were in a snow belt, 25 miles from groceries, hauling water, the smoke froze in the air when temps hit 50 below, our entertainment was cbc radio, dark by 5pm.. hunters crisscrossing the property, no idea our prop had trap lines.. Then we sold it and beat a path back to the coast where we lived on a boat. Gotta love progress. 😄
Карина, привет из Сибири! Ты молодец, удачи тебе в твоих походах.
My son and myself were back country kayaking Algonquin one time and met a young lady also coming out. After talking for a bit she mentioned she does winter camping there also by herself, no dog, I took my small border all the time. This gal was a dental hygienist in TO grew up in TO also. Amazing young gal. I admire those that aren't afraid to venture and explore. As a youngster I would fish and if I caught some trout I pulled out a piece of tinfoil and had them for lunch right there along the river. Best slimming down recreation I've ever had. Didn't always catch fish.
Hi, from Atlanta Ga ❤
I read a book written by a US Navy SEAL in which he recommended doing something uncomfortable every single day, even if it's just an ice cold shower. I think you're right on, Careena!
Well young lady, The Army ruined me for camping a long time ago. I am 75 now and roughing it to me is Motel 6, they leave the light on for you.. You do a good job with your vids. To bad the younger Croud does not take interest in your vids. Keep learning and sharing, dont forget to teach your young ones, but have patience with them. Thank you for sharing, stay safe.
I most certainly don't blame you, I bet those were some very difficult conditions to deal with all those years. Thank you for your kind words and support :)
Getting out is not just a hobby, it's a necessity. All the gear in the world will just get you further into trouble through false confidence, if one doesn't have the skills to properly use that gear, and the only way to develop those skills is to learn and practice them. Also, skills rust. Doing something once then letting that skill sit aside and rust, will also get you into trouble. You need to break out those skills, every once in a while, and knock the rust off of them, or you'll lose them. Going out and practicing learned skills not only keeps the rust away, but also builds your confidence in those skills. Survival is twenty percent gear, forty percent skills, and forty percent mental strength and confidence. You need all three to be successful. Another great video. Thanks!
Couldn't agree more!! Thanks so much for being here!
Agree with you completely and I would add, that the longer it has been since the last time you practiced your skills, your body has gone through changes creating physical barriers. Example, the arms tire out much quicker because you haven't been using those same muscle groups to cut up firewood for quite awhile.
@@williamevans6468 Absolutely. The one thing I would say is this though. It IS important to work those muscles out, and to try and keep oneself in good shape, but I've read, seen and watched a lot of the "STHF" type channels and, IMHO, they all focus way too much on the physical and militaristic aspect of survival. I'm 60+ and yes I have benefit of some military training, but more importantly, have been in the outdoors (hunting, fishing, camping) all of my life. Sure, I tire faster than I used to, but not so much that I can't get the job done; although I will suffer a few sore muscles the next day ;-) . Age and physical ability will limit some activities, but should not be considered a barrier to others.
@croakingtoad4472 100% agree with you. Only reason I added that response is because I just got home from a ski trip through the Team SemperFi fund and I haven't skied in roughly 6 years so I am feeling the legs. But more importantly, when I read your initial post, it made me think about the last time I tried using an axe or hand saw to do anything with wood and I remembered how my arm muscles felt everytime. I don't care for the militaristic channels myself but the same holds true which is if we aren't doing the hiking, sawing, swinginging an axe, etc, its just one more skill that needs to be sharpened after spending time away.
@@williamevans6468 Yeah I too get that. I'm not a big cold weather person, so every spring, I have to work on getting myself back into proper shape after a winter of near hibernation. ;-)
Your videos are actually relaxing because they are real. No kitschy music and drone areal views.
I have that same problem with the campfire smoke always following me, ha ha ha.
Life in Canada is harsh. Most people just live in the big cities where pretty much everything is available right away. Many immigrants from warm countries are not interested in Canada at all, but move here in order to continue the life they had in their home countries, but in better conditions. Of course they go to the larger cities.
I liked your camping.🏕️
As for me, there is not the experience that camped on a snowy day.⛄️
It is very hard, but thinks that it is a beautiful experience.❄️
You have a high technique.✨
I enjoy camping in Japan, too.🇯🇵
Your video gave me a hint!
I appreciate splendid camping.☺️
You have my gratitude! I love it when you speak from the heart you have done that in your last video and this video. Thank you so very much for sharing that.❤
Thank you so much for the kind words and support!!
Nicely said! There is always room for improvement and room for learning new skills!!
Absolutely! Thanks for the comment as always Kristin!!
I think you are bang on with regards to being prepared for anything that may happen whether it is a flood, forest fires.... I'm 63 years old and I take pride in showing my grandson and granddaughter how to start a fire using a ferro rod and what material to look for in the forest to start that fire or how to properly use their axe and silky saw. I'm also looking forward to seeing you complete all of your challenges. Keep up the great work. Thanks
Amazing!! I'm doing the same with my kids as well!! Thanks for watching!
Thanks, keep your videos coming. ✌🏻👊🏼
Thanks som much as always Butch!!
Get out and do it is the best advice and your right you learn something every time …. 👍🇨🇦!
There is an odd satisfaction with the struggles that go along with winter activities. I enjoy the extra challenges they bring. Activities like this take on a more primal feel which I feel can be exciting and a great change of pace to normal day to day.
Absolutely!! Thanks Rosey!
glad I found your Channel I've been running my head into a cinder block wall for about the last 40 years of my life challenging myself it's good to see somebody out there who is Young willing to keep doing that as well looking forward to Future content when it comes to making cordage if you can braid hair you can do it like and subscription added
As a person that grew up near the 45th parallel, I miss the winters represented in your videos. I currently live in Ohio, but your videos remind me of the winters of my youth: cold , clean, and vibrant. One would assume that a man of 67, like myself, has no interest in cold camping, but I love your videos. I have the gear, just not the cold. On the 45th parallel you had a chance, but I currently reside in Ohio. Such a bummer. (Not only because I am a Michigan grad, lol!) I hope to travel up north eventually, but where is winter? I guess it lives in Canada now, sigh...
How did you sleep at night? were you cold?
You can heat rocks in the fire then set them on cedar or pine boughs in your tent to add head at night.
Just watching you in the snow is giving us the chill matey.! You're crazy...but cool.! We get snow in Australia but not like yours. Great chat mate. Cheers & be safe.
really enjoyed this one. all hand tools and no electric light.
Flashback to 1985. October 31. Whitefish Point on Superior. 9 degrees. 30 mph wind. Canvas pup tent. Polyester cotton bag. What was I thinking…
Are you right wing
Being in the woods is like a recharge on the soul. Keep it up!
What a great way to enjoy a noon relaxation.. ❤
Just sit back and tune in to Careena Alexis 🌺🌹
Great video!!! Love the old school stuff. Great skills and scenery and Photography! I made a saw like yours and have my grandfather's hurricane lantern.
Thanks! Love the old school stuff too, it's where it's at for me!
Good to see you again, gurl!😊
I think you a very capable individual. That from the videos that you create, you can do all that you wish to accomplish and if you don't mind I'll be right here watching
Thank you for all that you say do. You are a true inspiration
Yeah! I agree with you ! The safest place is always in the woods ( except for forest fires, and they are all set by people). Why is it most are scared of the dark ? But you are right ! The skills you develop in the woods can be useful all your life. In the US, what you are showing used to be taught by Girl Scouts and Campfire Girls and Boy Scouts, sadly these groups are gone, but by watching your videos, one can learn and get inspired. So keep up the great videos, thank you.
Minus 6 is like summer in Canada. You walked from your truck to some open area. Big whoop.
Constantly test yourself, push yourself, push your comfort zone and learn. 100,000,000%!!
You're an inspiration and I, for one, truly appreciate what you do and what you share.
It's so important to "GET OUT THERE!"
Cheers Careena.
Thank you SO MUCH!! Cheers friend!!
HI ALEXIS 👋
I LEARN EVERY TIME I WATCH YOUR VIDEOS 📹 ❤ & RELEARN & TRY TO SEE IF 👀 I CAN DO IT SOMEWHAT . BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! ENJOYED ❤️ GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES 🙏 THANK YOU 😊 🙏 TENT ⛺️ SETUP TURNED OUT REALLY NICE .
I watch a few different channels, and I learn from all of them. Your channel seems slightly closer to my heart I think because I think the way you think and approach camping seems similar to my ideas. I want to say that I’m inexperienced, so it’s not like I know anything, so I’m not comparing myself to you at all. I’m a complete novice. I just like your style of camping. Thanks for sharing your content with us, from Geoff in Fremantle Western Australia🇦🇺
I'm so pleased to hear this!! Thanks Geoff, I appreciate your kind words and support!
Nice one Overnighter Careena!🙌 A bow drill fire in the Winter would be a major Win! 🔥
Just found you today. Thank you so much for the A frame and one night just off the Highway. I’m in NH so lots of woods. I will be back.
its amazing that you've got all that in your backyard, you got a ton of crownland around in the area near Ottawa. I am looking forward to seeing your new videos and what kinda survival skill you get to develop.
I watch loads of bushcraft videos. This is the most respectable fire build I’ve ever seen. It wasn’t manicured or showy. It was effective, fast, and real. Subscribing, not just for that, but your philosophy. Eager to see what you do next.
I really enjoyed this adventure you offered to take your viewer along.
You are a marvelous role model for people of all ages.
I enjoy seeing you challenge yourself during these scenarios, thanks...
Another cool survival/camping video Lexi!
Thank you kindly!!
Inspirational video, Careena. I appreciate your honest, unedited view of the omelette. You proved that stuff can go wrong no matter HOW experienced you are and it needn't diminish your pleasure. I'm gonna watch your earlier video too 😊
I been practicing roughing it. For example, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.
I’m terrified of spending the night in the woods. I have this crazy notion in my mind that it’s safer to hike a couple miles into a backcountry shelter and set up there and of course backcountry shelter sites probably are the worst places because animals big and small remember these sites for food smells. Plus these sites typically don’t have any firewood left either. My mind is a nutty place I reckon😅!
I really like that shelter!! That things cool and you don’t have to worry about fire sparks which is probably why you use it.
Take care.
I love chilling out having a fire outside in the winter only part that sucks is ur up every half hour stocking the fire or you freeze
Good talk on building your skills. I'm training in 2 main skills right now, wood heat by hand, and endurance racing, I completed a personal challenge of 89 km fat biking on snow yesterday, -23C. Now I have to go cut 15" pine logs lol.
Hey Careena, I absolutely love your content. There's a real refreshing honesty and humbleness to you and your videos, I really appreciate that. I'm curious and have a quick gear related question, I'm wondering if you have ever been caught in the rain or got your FJR down jacket wet? I'm wondering how it held up and what you might have done to dry it out and get it functional again if you did. Keep up your good work and I hope we see more of you in the future. Thank you.
Hi awesome to see you out in the wilderness.
That looks like a relaxing place to relax and drink water
Yes making a shelter out of trees , like some other campers do , corporal corner. Suggestion im sure others one you might follow.
Super nice and clever words. Knowledge is the most important thing you need. Then the bravery comes with it. Looking forward too your next one. Regards, a big fan from 🇸🇪 👊😉
Absolutely! Thanks so much for the support!!
So cozy out here in nature eating and keeping warm by the fire is underrated love the simple tent almost like my own lavvu simple quality gear is the way to go.. Son its spring time nice to look forward for some warmth eventhough winter is beautiful and theres something about being out in the cold even when freezing.
By the way the different and hard times is just around the corner its gonna be tuff!
Always enjoy your watching your channel you do an amazing job I'm retiring next month from nursing (yes OBS also)would love to attend the Hamilton show if I can keep my health I plan on exploring the great outdoors here in northern Ontario.
Greetings from the other side of this gem we’re FUBAR
Nice post , an thanks for posting, it’s a strange ol gem I’m sitting under a tarp in a small patch of bush leading to a campground that some locals dum rubbish ( 4 weeks now cleaning up ) sweating in our hot summer watching a post in snow on my tablet with two bars of hotspot on ph 😂 have to hate some things in this modern life but this is not one
Stay safe and healthy you and your family, see y’all on ya next post
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🤙🏼🖖🏼
You go girl. Love watching. By the way where do you buy your pants? At 72, I still hunt solo and camp in a trailer. Lord blessed me with these skills, so as my grandpa said, keep doing what you love. As I tell everyone who hunts, fishes and camps stay safe.
Righteous fire you made. And you must have Scandinavian heritage because you mentioned it was a minus-9 degree wind chill and you weren't wearing a warm cap or parka! Great episode as usual. Cheers.
Always enjoy your videos Careena. Have seen so many that are just, well, blah. You talk, and what I really like, is you are actually doing what is needed to set up camp etc. I should start to push myself again, just, well i did enough camping on Uncle Sam's dime and found living in a GP Medium in Saudi was not a lark. Then there were the times in Germany and Ft Riley where I drove my "tent" around. Only it weighed about 54 tons and made a hell of a racket! I drove tanks when I was on active duty. I also admit it scares hell out of me being in the woods at night. Watched one too many Big Foot videos I guess! Continue to do as you and your husband do, I will always support your channel. I salute you!
Thanks for the video. You are wise beyond your years. Never stop learning new skills, you never know when you will need them. I would like to see how to make jerky. Stay well and be happy.
Que alivio tener el fuego en el frio puedo sentir
Absolutely correct Careena, push yourself outside your comfort zones. It will pay off looking forward. Think of the situations you could be in out on your canoe trips etc. Yes, build the simple 'A' frame, etc. Bushcraft can teach us so much.
Great video Careena. Nice to get out and spend some time in the woods. It helps to clear the mind. Take care and have a blessed and safe week 🙏
I enjoyed seeing
the tree chalice again😎
Loved this outting, that tent looks like the tent emoji 😍
Hahaha it really does 🤣
Love Your attitude! Thanks for sharing! Love what You're doing!
Amazing simple and excellent video!!❤️🤗🙏🏾🪶
The old kero lantern I haven’t seen one like that since I was a scout made by willow
As you already know I love this kind of videos - keep going on!
i THINK this is useful and please keep trying to teach People especially the ladies who think they cannot do these things
I agree it's not how far you go in the woods , it's just that you go in the woods .
You are a stout camper girlfriend!! I’m impressed and appreciate your knowledge!!
It's great just to do it for the enjoyment also. Enjoyed the vid
Very true that outdoors trips develop lots of small skills which lead to larger more important skills. Thanks for the vid Careena .
For sure! Thanks as always Alex!! Your comments are much appreciated here!
You're getting some competition Careena from the likes of Adam Stew and his sexy gf .They're ok but the girl can't make it alone on her tight clothing.@@careenaalexis
Your thick wool warm socks with the red band look exactly like my CAF cold weather issued socks!
They are!! I have a CAF friend :)
What a great video. I appreciate you speaking frankly. The first step is always the toughest.
Nice to see you again I love your videos.
Thank you kindly!!
You are giving it your all thumbs up!
It's simple math for me. Hot married chick loves everything outdoors especially fond of winter months! Add solo trips into the wild ! Every man's dream girl of the outdoors!
That is a great one, Careena. It will be so fun watching you explore those skills more. Looking forward to future videos from you.
Hey Careena Alexis! Awesome video, I especially enjoyed the commentary and advice. Very important information. At the same time it also gave me some encouragement! I really enjoy watching your adventures and learning some things about the great outdoors! I believe you are a tough gal, both mentally and physically, I think you kinda have to be, anybody really, to get out on adventures like that and enjoy yourself. Stay safe out there! Already looking forward to your next adventure!
Thank you SO MUCH for the kind words and encouragement 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Comments like this keep me going and are so very appreciated!!
Love the video! Really appreciate the back to basics videos as I can learn so much from them
Greetings from Cornwall England, lovely video, simple kit and food, really enjoyed watching. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much! 😊
i love to that as well to camp in the snow but we don"t have snow in my country philippines but somehow here in hong kong atlest winter i tried to camp at winter cold day and its fun yah its really challenging but its fun to learn such skill like that
I enjoy your videos.... Good job
Thank you kindly!!
Great commentary, and yes, HUNGER is the BEST chef!
Good morning from Minnesota USA! Fun episode!
Totally agree with the last things you said about people trying these skills....Most people couldn't do what you did there. Would love to help you learn bowdrill and cordage making since I have taught that here and the people were successful. Keep up the great videos.
Thank you so much!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Can you do a video sometimes describing the camera equipment used in making your videos?
Great job with the fires & camp set up ! So very true LIFE SKILLS we all learn new things that work for us & may work for you every time your out with mother nature :) Awesome TIPS :)
Great video Careena. I am looking forward to spending some time outside in the winter too - for the very first time... Wish me luck.
Great videos, awesome words of wisdom.....keep up the great work. i Totally believe the same stuff, Hard times and coming, even if they do not come, being out of your comfort zone is a great practice.
Much appreciated!!
A cerosine lantern out of all things!:). I salute you.
You may have covered it previously, curious what brand cast iron skillet you're using.
Thought I mentioned it in this video somewhere, maybe I accidentally cut it out lol I like the Lodge brand ones, they're easily accessible for me to get, but I always sand them down and re-season them myself.
