This part of the film just shows how awesome Julia Roberts really is, she played this role with such passion and anger in her heart. I cant watch this scene without getting chills or getting angry myself because of the funding that was pulled away to help these people. Julia delivers a powerful message here her character was right, we could ALL be dead before anyone decides to do anything. It's amazing what 30 years can do to people, and hopefully we are on the right path to find a cure for HIV/AIDS because I would never wish that on anybody not even my worst enemies.

Wow! I do love the wide range of emotions she's able to express in her rolls. She is a seasoned and hopefully well credited actress. I really like her performances.

I watched the play for this movie. I remember this scene from the play. I think the actor who I watched the play perform this scene did a better job. Maybe because I saw it live. Fucking beautiful nonetheless. I got chills when the actress started yelling and throws all the papers on the ground. One of them landed near me and everyone started clapping including myself. It was powerful

@@crazyshit8 I would have loved to have seen this play! Everyone who acted in this film did a fantastic job! It makes me sick to my stomach that just because the federal government deemed HIV/AIDS as a "gay cancer", they turned a blind eye to it. People suffered profoundly, and the human loss of life was insurmountable. It was criminal what they did to the LGBT community.

@@crazyshit8 someone has kindly uploaded a recording of the 2004 play, and I just finished watching it. I have to agree with you. The actress in the play did an absolutely superb job. So, I don't think it is because you saw it live, I think the actress in the play was just fantastic. In comparison Roberts' performance here seems wooden in the beginning and a bit over-done once she gets super angry.

I have seen a few productions of the play, and I was never a fan of Dr. Emma Brookner ... until Julia Roberts did it. She knocked it out of the park and then some. Incredible performance, definitely one of her best. She has a skill every actor tries to hone: expressing emotions with facial expressions. She is masterful at that skill.

People always rave about Roberts's charm and smile, but it's the fierceness and fire underneath that makes her an enduring star and superb actress. She showed it in her earliest roles, like Steel Magnolias and Pretty Woman.

Just when i thought Julia Roberts' character in this film was only going to play a so-so role, she surprises me once again by delivering this raw emotional scene -- this is why she will always remain my favorite female actor. I've seen her deliver raw emotional scenes like this in Erin Brokovich and again in Mona Lisa Smile.

Honestly, I have been so impressed by Julia Roberts' drama performances of these last years, as in " Secret in their eyes ", where she is almost excruciating and she blew me away. Julia Roberts is ON 🔥 here. I remember when I was Directing & playing Ned Weeks in a community theater production of The Normal Heart in Portland, Oregon back in 1996.
It had been WELL over a decade since the height of the AIDS epidemic had crested, the new ARV medications were just starting to come out, and the actress whom I'd cast as Dr. Emma Brookner BURST into tears EVERY TIME she had to play this scene. Which worked for the dramatic arc because let's face it: when Dr. Linda Laubenstein (whom the character is based on) presented her evidence she was ridiculed. How would that make someone feel who's spent YEARS treating AIDS victims, collecting data and watching young gay men die and NO ONE gave a 💩? INCLUDING the NIH & the Reagan Administration! 🤬🖕
Julia Roberts work in this was PHENOMENAL! I WISH this had been made into a movie back when I was doing my production of it so that the actress could have analyzed Robert's performance. Just TOUR DE FORCE! EPIC!

I always thought Julia was a very one dimensional actor but after seeing this I realized it’s not her acting ability it’s the roles she selects. This lady can act her ass off! I ended up having a new found appreciation for her at after watching this.

You know, after watching this clip and August: Osage County, maybe I should ignore the fact that Julia is vile and cruel as a person and just watch her as an actress, because I realize that when she truly want to give a fantastic performance, she will knock it out of the park. These two performances, along with Erin Brockovich & Closer, are proof that she can truly act if she wants to instead of playing the same role over and over again.
    So.... yeah great work Julia.
