“I didn’t think that I had done anything wrong until you sent me there” Such a quietly devastating line, delivered perfectly. And received wonderfully by Molina.
Molina’s expression at the very end.... These boys absolutely slayed. And you can actually feel how much love is still in the room. Beautiful writing. Beautiful portrayal.
Fully agreed. This whole movie is one of the best I’ve ever seen, but this scene in particular is especially powerful. Possibly one of the absolute best “argument” scenes I’ve ever seen on film.
I think it's one of the best scenes on compassion. In order to truly feel compassion rather than pity you have to see yourself as similar to another person. You have to be on the same level as them. You have to identify with their pain.
He's not homophobic, there's no such thing as homophobia unless someone is genuinely terrified of it as if it was a lion charging at him. Simply disagreeing with the behavior & lifestyle is not being fearful or afraid of it. People can do whatever they want regardless of what others think of it. That's what makes America so great.
@@Nozverah2 what? That's such a weird way to use the term and certainly isnt how it's used in the common vernacular. This film was so moving . I cried at every sene just about . But now there's been marvellous progress in treating this horrible virus . Thankyou for making this film for all the victims of aids and my uncle it touched my heart 🖤 brilliant
- but terrifying to see how little the USA (and the entire world really) did about the AIDS pandemic (since it was first hitting gay men, intravenous drug users and Haitians it apparently wasn't worth doing anything about) - but nothing has changed: look what the republicans did about COVID!
If this movie had been a theatrical release, it would - and should- have won all the Oscars. They would have had to invent a new Acting Category for Best Cast to award all the actors in the film rather than just two or three of them.
The AIDS epidemic had huge and painful consequences for my family. I haven't seen all of The Normal Heart, but this scene is devastating. Brokeback Mountain and Longtime Companion are also devastating. I had and have no interest in seeing Philadelphia, which has always sounded like a piece of Hollywood bunny fluff. Thanks for posting this very powerful scene.
Living through this struggle enveloped the core of our being. Not only were our lives on the line (literally), our lifestyle choices and perceptions of those choices were scrutinized to the point that countless GLBTQ had to slam shut those closet doors that had just begun to crack open. Fear and irrational emotion warps the brain. It continues to this day and I blame the lion's share of these medieval thought processes on religion. Religion poisons everything; always has, always will.
I remember having the same argument with my older brother. By getting angry with him and not speaking to him for a year, he was able to understand that if he didn't respect me, he would lose me, and sometimes that's the only way families understand the value of us as equals.
