There was a subaru justy that used the exact same chassie and engine as the swift, with AWD!! I fucking loved the swift, my granny had gti :D and after that tried that justy... That same engine with awd is just amazing
that AWD Mazda 323 was my absolutely favorite! Also some of these cars were owned by people from Poland, and since these cars are so rare, I think that I should visit Poland soon and get some of those beauties
Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg, Mitsubishi Asti and Lancer MR all had 4G92 1.6 MIVEC engines pushing out 172bhp / 175PS. Revved to 8200 rpm... superb and rare too
It's not a comparison? It's a statement. The starlet turbos even the older version was heavy and slow. The newer shape is even heavier again. They added a turbo because without one they'd hardly move. A old friend of mine had the older shape.....he improved injectors, fuel pump, aftermarket headers ( factory ones are really really bad for cracking his had 3) upped the boost to 20lb on a brand new turbo and ecu and I could still beat him in my 4age corolla with 4 ppl in it. Slow asf!
Just had a quick Google and they are just under a ton! For a car that size that's pretty heavy. The older ones from the 80s are around 200 kg lighter! Same size car essentially.
i am happy that somebody mentioned the amazing Daihatsu Charade GTti! I used to own one!! It was truly a magnificent car with an very strong and reliable engine!! It was very fast even comparing it with very larger units and it was pretty economical too!! I loved it but it was an unlucky car for me. Somebody crashed into it while i had it parked in a parking lot.. A very good mention might have been the Toyota Starlet GT turbo. It is a great car with a great engine! Great video as always VisioRacer and happy birthday !!
oh that charade gtti. buddy of Mine ownes one. nasty little machines. He upped the Boost a little an did some other bolt-ons. enough for making 135 HP. and its so Light. He deletet the back seat as its not useable anyway. goes like a firecracker that little thing..
I had one as my second car ever - just going for max performance per pound. Daihatsu spent all the money on the engine. I parked it with one back wheel on a kerb and it put enough twist in the chassis that I couldn't shut the tailgate until i moved it. For smiles without grief it's the most fun car I've ever owned. Traded it for a CRX VTEC coupe 2 plus 2 that was quicker, handled better but not quite so much fun and traded that for a MK1 Elise that put bigger smiles on my face than any car but which has been the cause of more grief too.
My dad had it's predecessor - the one which looked like smaller Lancia Delta of the time back in like 1996. Needless to say the one in this video was a huge leap for the car from being a clunky box to a smooth machine which makes you feel you're in a car and not a box of metal.
Can Elmen I have a Honda City Pro T with a 1300cc turbo Hyabusa motor if you want to buy it. Granted, it doesn't look as cool as the turbo version. Pretty fast though.
Hi, nice video. I wanted to point out a small point on the March Super Turbo regarding the engine capacity. It wasn't reduced for cylinder strength (although that was a good by-product) it was reduced so that when the FIA x 1.7 multiplication factor for supercharging was applied, the engine fell into the 1300-1600cc class, and not the larger 1600-2000cc class as it would if it retained the larger capacity 👍
VisioRacer Correct. The 987cc MA10S engine multiplied by the FIA formula of 1.7 equals 1672cc putting it in a class with cars up to 2lt. By using a smaller bore, the 930cc MA09ERT engine ends up at 1581cc and inside the 1600cc class limit where I believe it did very well, certainly as a rally car. Daihatsu failed to take this chance to decrease the engine capacity of their 993cc engine once turbo charged and so ended up in the larger class. 👍
Tomas Agentavicius ups forgot about that one. The GTI-R started in 1990 the cosworth in 92 but its the same time anyway. basicly the same kind. Just like the lancia delta integrale evoluzione. Anyway incredibly quick cars for that time especialy.
All those Group A homologation specials could put even better numbers but often only on paper. Impreza Turbo, Lancer Evo, Escort Cosworth, 323 GTR had engines that could do 700 hp and everything else put together from asorted bits and pieces of other cars so they would just pass homologation. As a result I don't think any of thos cars was really any good or reliable from factory. GTI-R would overheat, 323 had 1,8 engine that could make 700 hp on stock turbo (talking about downsizing lol) but gearbox couldn't handle more than 150, Escort was... shortened Sierra chassis with Cosworth engine and ECU map so bad the first thing anyone would do is take it for remap. Underneath all that garbage however all those were purebred rallycars and with enough knowledge and funds any of them can be very fast even today.
I'm pretty sure the 323 gtr could not make 700 on stock turbo, I drove one with the stock turbo that had the boost turned up as high as it could safely go, it was more like 300hp. If the turbo was big enough to make 700hp the car would be extremely laggy. I've never seen any of those cars you listed make anywhere near 700hp (I drove all of them) without changing almost everything in the engine including, turbo, pistons, rods, injectors, ecu, head gasket etc...
The e9 corolla gti also came with a 4A-GZE in Japan. The 4A-GZE is factory supercharged 4A-GE with 121 kW (160 hv) @ 6400 r/min and 210 Nm @ 4400 r/min
it popped on my mind too - I was always looking at one being parked near my ex-girlfriend's house, it was in a good shape and I always thought to myself that it would be cool to drive it
The nissan Pulsar VZR N1 0:27 wasnt only available in Japan. It was sold in Europe too. I (living in Germany) had one of those. Its name was Nissan Almera N15. Although it had other front and rear lights it was pretty much the VZR N1. I bought it and in its stock form it had an SR Engine. There may be some differences but theyre mostly the same.
The Mazdas were known by other names outside of Japan and actually sold reasonably well. The MX3 was slightly restyled and sold as the Eunos 30X in most countries it was sold in, the V6 engine also made it into the top of the range early 90's 323 Astina. The late 80's 323 GTX was sold in Australia not as a Mazda but as a Ford (badge engineering was a big thing in the late 80's), called the Ford Laser TX3 it sold very well at the time and there was a subsequent body shape from 1990-1995 with a larger 1.8 litre turbo engine and 4WD.
rtv190 If you ever get round to it, import a few extra transmissions as well, the box could barely cope with standard power! That and the clutch were the only real weak points. A company called Sadeev used to make a reinforced gearbox and uprated gear sets for them. It's still easy to get uprated replacement clutches, it is an sr20det engine after all. A friend of mine had one running about 350 bhp, he went through 3 gearboxes in a year before he coughed up for the sadeev box, after that it was bulletproof. It was a serious piece of kit, it was faster than most things on the road at the time (1999, back when 600bhp was a huge number for a Supra lol)
quinnjohn1 Owned mine for 11 years and still no gearbox problem... saying that I've only had it on the road for about 6 months in the 11 years I've owned it... I do agree with the clutch, mine was changed soon as I purchased... 400bhp and still same gearbox.. touch wood
Boss K-s From what I remember, it's the actual gearbox casing that can deform slightly under heavy load which in turn wrecks the gears. My friend, Pete who owned the one I mentioned, loved hard launches, he had launch control fitted and wasn't afraid to use it! 4500 rpm clutch dump launches in it were unbelievable! it took off like it was going to catch up with the horizon! That was probably why he went through gearboxes quite so quickly. It was one of the most exciting cars I've driven, I personally think it also handled better than the Subarus and evos at the time (1999) on the roads we used to drive on (look up the "Cairn O' Mount" road in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, that was our favourite stretch of road). I am more than a bit jealous of you having one, they are worth a fortune here now.
quinnjohn1 No you're spot on about the gearbox I just couldn't help but get a little defensive haha.. It's sentimental you know.. No doubt it's probably the most fun I've ever had in any car.. naturally brings a grin to my face hearing that engine roar knowing it's all mechanical and not the stuff you see today all run by electronics. That's my pleasure from it. as for you being jealous. Really nothing to be jealous of mate if I ever drive it 90% of the time I'm fearing which corner it's gonna break down in. touch wood she's never let me down but it's a fear factor. how much are they in Scotland now ? mines a pretty clean example I'll see about copying a picture link here. 450bhp must of been an absolute monster.
Love the Japanese hot hatches. 3:50 A correction for the Nissan March Super Turbo, the capacity was reduced to get the car into the under 1600cc class for racing and rallying. When the FIA multiplication for a forced induction engine of 1.7 was added to the 903cc, it was classed as a 1535cc engine. If it had remained a 1lt as Daihatsu did with the Charade Turbo, then it would be in the 1600 to 2000cc class and uncompetitive. 👍
Thank you visionair, I am a big fan of these "underdog" cars. Ik saw a 0-100 in 7 seconds Daihatsu YRV turbo. Get your 60000 euro beemer smoked by a stock family tin can, love it!!
Awesome video! And keep the voice overs, I enjoy them. Your English pronounciation gets better with each video! Also, could you do a video about cheap German sportsclassics? I know there are plenty of awesome cars to choose from :)
@VisioRacer I have a very underrated hatchback, a suzuki swift (1989-2004) the GTI was a favourite back in the day. even my dad's mates had them and modified them! they have since been forgotten in time. they are great cars with a strong engine :)
Ahh yes, the Pulsar, known to me as the Nissan Sunny, we owned one of them for several years, before it succumbed to a completely rusted underbody (a terrible flaw with many Nissans). Quite cool car to see, also irl because those have become incredibly rare. Can't remember if ours sounded like that Pulsar drifting in the snow
A lot of them are getting old now so you could probably import a few now. I'm in nz and we have everything on the list pretty much here. Gizza bell if ya wanna talk because it's surprisingly cheap to send a car to the states from here.....under 1500 nz dollars.
me too buds. I loved chucking mine round bends at silly speeds, with the v6 lump holding the front end down and a bit of lift off oversteer. and that hum from the exhaust
The Mx-3 in Canada was really common I used to see them everywhere like civics, no as much now that they are getting older but I can still find tons online for roughly $1000 or less potentially.
It sounds like the Pulsar gears are too far apart as it seems to be dropping out of the high rev VVL between shifts - listen from 1:03 to hear it kicking in (at 6750 rpm or so) and then dropping out only to kick in half way through the pull on the next gear. A lot of cars suffer from this, but I had a go in a 1998 FTO and that stayed on MIVEC all the way up the gearbox, so it can be done...
but NEO VVL had double cam shifting, I guess it was designed like that. It's different than MIVEC VVTL-i or VTEC that only did single cam shifting on certain RPM
Interesting fact for you. The VZR N1 actually came with the same front seats you find in the r32 and r33 GTRs. The VZR shown in this vid is actually the autech, again a different version to the N1 but this was just abit of useless info if anyone wanted to know lol
Apparently the March was also 930 cc due to homologation requirements (or so GT2 told me). That way it was able to stay below the 1.6 litre calculated disaplcement (1.7 forced induction multiplier).
the march super turbo was made 930cc so it could compete in 1600cc class rallying. As 930cc was the max size engine you could use with a turbo. Nothing to do with making the engine stronger. Infact a common mod is to get 1L turbo pistons fitted and getting the engine bored out.
In 1988 the march super turbo generated 110hp from 930cc and hit 100kmph in 7 7. Todays 1000cc tubo engines with 4 valves per cylinder, twin cams and gdi have a hard time achieving this. Its acceleration is better than many warm hatches 32 yrs later
I have birthday today FYI 🙂
VisioRacer congrats bro
VisioRacer hbd bro
VisioRacer happy birthday petrolhead bro!
VisioRacer Happy birthday and keep up the good content bro
Happy Birthday Cuh! Thanks for making these fire videos mane... hope you have a great day
Love that digital Turbo indicator on the Honda City Turbo 😂😍
that digital turbo gauge is fucking amazeballs
amazeballs? you just went back in time to visit the cars when they were first produced with that statement
el f1del 80s as fuck
1989-1994 Suzuki Swift GTi never gets any love. 114hp 1.3l NA in a car that weights under 1700lbs.
101 hp 1.3 16V - I had an 1992 MK2 in white - i still miss that one. i guess there are not many of them left :(
There was a subaru justy that used the exact same chassie and engine as the swift, with AWD!! I fucking loved the swift, my granny had gti :D and after that tried that justy... That same engine with awd is just amazing
I worked for Suzuki 89-94 and i loved 'em both.We (our Suzuki garage) souped 'em up incl the 4dr saloon 4x4 both were white.
Im 17yrs old and i have swift gti, chasis in bad shape but g13b in good hahaha
I had one for a few years and I loved it!
that AWD Mazda 323 was my absolutely favorite! Also some of these cars were owned by people from Poland, and since these cars are so rare, I think that I should visit Poland soon and get some of those beauties
THAT NISSAN HAS VTEC!
it also had 2 set of injectors that worked secuencially
Adil Ahmed VVL same as VTEC VVTLi
Ah yes, that Very Tall Engine Cooling!
If you like the SR16VE, check out the SR20VET.
That engine couldn't pull the skin off a banana
These cars are so underrated, they deserve far more respect
Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg,
Mitsubishi Asti and Lancer MR
all had 4G92 1.6 MIVEC engines pushing out 172bhp / 175PS. Revved to 8200 rpm... superb and rare too
no starlet gt turbo :(
Yes pulsar but no starlet lol

Glad you mentioned the Pulsar GTI-R. It's never mentioned on any car vids. Glad to see it and which they were still around.
Suzuki Swift GTi?
well known
I think that he mean Swift Mk.1 GTi.
Suzuki Alto CC72
Ignis Sport
AJ it's not
Diahatsu YRV Turbo, Suzuki swift Gti, Glanza Turbo, plenty of others too.
Dude I needed this video. Are you reading my mind?
whaha same thing happened to me with the video about rotary's!
Your voice sounds better with every video. I got used to the accent now :p
I like it!
Pleasing to hear, thanks!
Toyota Caldina GT-Four? Technically a small wagon, not a hatchback, but it's 260hp and AWD is still pretty much under the radar.
Runx Z Aerotourer would be a better fit for the video and would spank a caldina around a track
I think this is one of my favorite Visio videos. These are cars a lot of people consider junk... but are so off beat I love em.
i am happy that somebody mentioned the amazing Daihatsu Charade GTti! I used to own one!! It was truly a magnificent car with an very strong and reliable engine!! 2:07 well that fuel escalated quickly :)
I think thats just a display error, as you ysee it stops at a point.
LOL didn't even saw it
Well, I love that Honda City Turbo now.
Can Elmen yup me too
Can Elmen I have a Honda City Pro T with a 1300cc turbo Hyabusa motor if you want to buy it. Granted, it doesn't look as cool as the turbo version. Pretty fast though.
left out the Toyota Starlet GT turbo 0-60 in 8.2 secs from a 1.3L engine that made approx 135hp
Hi, nice video.
I wanted to point out a small point on the March Super Turbo regarding the engine capacity.
It wasn't reduced for cylinder strength (although that was a good by-product) it was reduced so that when the FIA x 1.7 multiplication factor for supercharging was applied, the engine fell into the 1300-1600cc class, and not the larger 1600-2000cc class as it would if it retained the larger capacity

Oh, okay, so higher block durability was only a bonus.
VisioRacer
Correct.
Nice facts to know, thanks
great Video! the GTI-R is the craziest one. under 6 seconds to 100kph. I think there was not one other hatchback that did this at this time.
99Lezard99 there still isnt one to this day! (excluding A45 AMG and focus rs, those are on a diff level)
99Lezard99 there was,escort cosworth,
delta integrale..
1:18 NEO KICKED IN YO AHAHAH OMG
Oscar Thorpe vvl*
The e9 corolla gti also came with a 4A-GZE in Japan. The 4A-GZE is factory supercharged 4A-GE with 121 kW (160 hv) @ 6400 r/min and 210 Nm @ 4400 r/min
Subaru justy
Marc Cadec Subarus are the bomb!!!! I just wish they had a crossplane crankshaft. :-(
Marc Cadec not a hot hatch, but 4wd so that's cool to play with
it popped on my mind too - I was always looking at one being parked near my ex-girlfriend's house, it was in a good shape and I always thought to myself that it would be cool to drive it
Nobody loves the poor justy.
I loved my 1200 3cyl one. Wasn't awd but could get up and go once was up in the revs. Awesome fun little car to throw around a carpark
Fun fact the Daihatsu Charade Gtti has a completely forged engine from factory. Mine is running 300whp with no problems for 3 years.
Toyota Starlet Glanza VI?
WP quite well known
Umm.. There were cars in this video which are even more well-known. The Glanza is not THAT famous, lol.
***** Maybe I'm biased because they aren't that rare where I live.
well someone have to say it. damn I was waiting for it. slightly disappointed but Corolla was mentioned so it wasn't that bad.
Yuri Blaak but so is the charade gtti, so many have been scrapped, in the UK with their upcoming cult status their going for 10k+
Gran Turismo players knows these pretty well...
Especially the City Turbo
Yep
pulsar gtir had plenty of respect here in the uk everybody wanted one ! great cars :)
Great vid bro, as always 👊🏽
The Honda city turbo it's a beast!
1.6 with 200 hp wow, gg nissan
in 97
wow the pulsar too
+klemwaddle The Type R only made 182 HP from 1.6 Litres.... lol
honda s2000....lol
+ThePauvi96 The S2000 has a 2 litre engine.
The nissan Pulsar VZR N1 0:27

Alexander F European cars had different shittier engines
The SR16VE in VZR was available in no Euro spec Almera..
Happy B-day Visio!. I wish I could get some of these fun cars you cover in the US.
I had an AE82 Corolla gt and a '92 GTX in the past. Both are great cars and so much fun to drive. I do miss them
I own an Almera GTI, never had that much fun in a daily! :D
Lmao only 500 VZRs in existance only made in japan yet theirs one sitting out front of my home in sydney, huh... small world
And it goes 0-100 quicker 7 seconds right?
A good few live in Ireland also.
I have been watching your videos all day visioracer. Your content is amazing
Hey just found your channel doing the usual youtube browse. I like it! Lots of cool cars in one video that makes me watch and stop searching.
Hello Jeff, very pleased to hear that! Welcome and enjoy, thanks ☺️
Happy Birthday Visio 🎂

Thanks for the feature! :-D loved the video @VisioRacer

I appreciate the sub-titles... thumbs up!
Lots of research, great work!
Happy birthday, buddy!!

The g11 charades are even more underrated they have robust frame and chassis and the engine is almost bulletproof and it sounds so good
Another great video visio! Oh and happy belated birthday!
Thank you!
a Lot of cool unknown japanese cars that was not too much power but is still great .happy birthday;-) and as always good video
Thanks!
Awesome video! And keep the voice overs, I enjoy them. Your English pronounciation gets better with each video!
Also, could you do a video about cheap German sportsclassics? I know there are plenty of awesome cars to choose from :)
Thanks. Yes, of course I could, do you have some specific suggestions?
GREAT JOB VICIORACER!!!!
I had a VZR and MX3 V6.. Loved them.
Another 2 that are missed here.
Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg ZR MIVEC & Toyota Starlet GT Turbo and Glanza V..
Toyota starlet GT Turbo?
Well known
ferdi himawan my sister had one of these in aus, a f****ing truck drove her off the side of the road
Ben Chesterman 😂no it's not
awesome vid as usual my guy
@VisioRacer I have a very underrated hatchback, a suzuki swift (1989-2004) the GTI was a favourite back in the day. even my dad's mates had them and modified them! they have since been forgotten in time. they are great cars with a strong engine :)
Thanks for adding audio to your videos! I get why you didn't in earlier videos, but your English is good. Where are you from?
Incredible Video 😍👍🎧
Good video well put together👍
I remeber the 323 GTX, and the Colt GT Turbo. We got the Corolla hatch as the FX16, and it was a blast, from what I heard.
4:25 thats my friend Barry in that March. Love that car
Dat Mazda MX-3!!!! Gorgeous!!
Ahh yes, the Pulsar, known to me as the Nissan Sunny, we owned one of them for several years, before it succumbed to a completely rusted underbody (a terrible flaw with many Nissans).
Quite cool car to see, also irl because those have become incredibly rare.
Can't remember if ours sounded like that Pulsar drifting in the snow
currently searching for these kind of vechiles to buy
thanks and nice vid
7:25 this is what we call torque steer
I was expecting the Toyota Starlet on this list
10 awesome Hatchbacks not available in the U.S...
Well, except for the Mazda 323
A lot of them are getting old now so you could probably import a few now. I'm in nz and we have everything on the list pretty much here. Gizza bell if ya wanna talk because it's surprisingly cheap to send a car to the states from here.....under 1500 nz dollars.
Brotang Youst good luck finding the a city, charade or cyborg
Let's not forget that back in the early days of MCM, a Nissan March SuperTurbo was prominently featured in one of their season 1 episodes.
another great video sir thanks again :)
just got my pulsar gtir less then a week ago. i think its my new favorite car ever.
Happy Birthday dude, on the city turbo I never saw a fuel tank empty so quick lol.
All these models were imported to New Zealand.
Lance Johnson and that is why I love living in New Zealand
Toooo fuckin right gunner
@@jamesmitchell811 unfortunately a lot of the mention cars from Visio are either destroyed or beaten to living hell
I own a few
i miss my mx-3 :(
me too buds. I loved chucking mine round bends at silly speeds, with the v6 lump holding the front end down and a bit of lift off oversteer. and that hum from the exhaust
Those were 2.5
@@damiendoisher7812 the MX6 had the 2.5 V6 and also the Ford Probe.
323F /Lantis had the 2.0 V6
MX3 had the 1.8 V6
I loooooved my GTti !!!!
The Mx-3 in Canada was really common I used to see them everywhere like civics, no as much now that they are getting older but I can still find tons online for roughly $1000 or less potentially.
that Mirage turbo in the last bit, made me think, SPEEEEEDD!!!!
That one was definitely not stock
2:10 dat small honda sure loves drinking dat fuel
Last clip was the best of them all...
Still running a strong af GTti xD
The daihatsu engine was actually a 4AGE with a cylinder chopped off. It was awesome 😊. This video took me back.
Finally some awesomeness :D
Great video
Happy bday, when you will make vid with Toyota Celica st18(5th gen)? Or maybe there is video with her already, but i'm blind xD(then showme which xS)
Charade GTti! I love this crazy little thing :)
So do I!
Apparently the March was also 930 cc due to homologation requirements (or so GT2 told me). That way it was able to stay below the 1.6 litre calculated disaplcement (1.7 forced induction multiplier).
Holy crap I've heard of the Pulsar before but that one 200 HP from a NA 1.6l is crazy
the march super turbo was made 930cc so it could compete in 1600cc class rallying. As 930cc was the max size engine you could use with a turbo. Nothing to do with making the engine stronger. Infact a common mod is to get 1L turbo pistons fitted and getting the engine bored out.
good video, i would have put in the list the daihatsu storia x4 and glanza turbo!
Very Nice cars!
YES first time someone has mentioned Pulsar n1 and Almera GTI
Charade GTTI has always been on my list.
My brother had a March Superturbo.
That thing was the closest to a street legal karting I ever drove.
So the GTI-R is basically a awd Silvia
_I love it_
