I don't know if anyone else mentioned it yet but over here in North America, General Motors has the 3.8L supercharged V6 which in my humble opionion is one of the best motor GM ever made! They put it in a ton of different platforms. With mild modifications it is a real performer and returns decent fuel economy numbers. I've seen 35 mpg out of my 03 Bonneville SSEI on trips with speeds in excess of 120 km/h.
Badly_Dubbed A Corrado is really cool car,i owned one for 17 months and i dont recomend it to new drivers as many of them have problem with rear diff. I would compare its handling to a coffin with trash bin wheels. But all it takes is like 2-3 bolt-ons and you can make the car feel like 911 and not 20 year old Corrado. Plus g60 engine has some potential,so with little tuning, like freeflow air filter, straight pipe and porting/polishing valves would easily spike engine from 120hp to 150hp and with alredy bad rear diff it was nightmare to drive, sometimes jumping and jerking on road. And unfortunately its hard to find them these days, especialy not riced out ones with fart cans. But they are one of cheapest 'sport' cars to buy and maintain. You cant say you are a car guy if you havent owned Corrado,Delta,Golf 2,Alfa 75 or Fiat Coupe.
Badly_Dubbed Here where i live stock Corrados are rare. Ussualy they get Porsche 924 tranny and rear diff,Mitsubishi i think but not sure. I haven't seen stock Corrado in ages, but i seen some crazy swaps, like rear engine RWD.. Mine is VR6 with G60 swap, and i wanted to say 120kW not hp... Anyway,it was like brick on wheels handling wise always. Cheers!
With turbocharging you do *not* get any real free energy. The back pressure on the turbine side is at LEAST as high at that on the compressor side, if not higher due to losses. A significant portion of the extra power developed is consumed by the turbo compressing the incoming air. Really the big advantage is that the boost is not as dependent on engine RPMs as it is with a super charger.
Lots of 3800 supercharger powered vehicles get overlooked too. the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, Pontiac Bonneville SSEI and Buick Regal GS.
Martynas Juska More like, yaaayyy audi! Thanks for some dope car that after 3 years or 100,000 miles needs $20K/year to keep on the road. But just to have it would be nice too.
Jay Edlington that's how audi makes their money. They know most people who buy a new audi drive it for 2 to 3 years and sell it and buy a new one. After 2 audis I've learned my lesson neither one made it past 120k miles without major repairs.
I remember my days of owning a Polo G40. Very underrated car by every aspect of things. I had mine tuned to about 135hp and stripped interior, so it was quite fast on the roll. They were never 0-60 cars but a 30+mph to top end car.
5:45 I don’t see how the Eaton M90 is anywhere near big enough to make 360hp. The 90 and 120 were used on Buick 3800’s and maxed out at maybe 280 crank up. Could it even keep up with the more advanced Aston 24 valve i6?
Nice to see you included the S4 B8, I have one and it's not that common a car, nor is it well known about being charged for a relatively new car. I agree though, TFSI and the V6 badges were stupid. I've replaced mine with Supercharged badges.
Wait does the S4 B8 not have supercharged badges on the side (near the mirrors)? I have an A6 C7 with the same 3.0 supercharged v6 tfsi and it has supercharged badges near the mirrors.
Visio, your accent in English is getting better and better and better! You'll never be like my grandparents, who spoke Czech when they were born in Pennsylvania and learned English when they were 10. My grandmother had NO accent, yet your language was her first-
Hi Visioracer. I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos (except the bike ones bc I hate bikes lol) and I always watch them. They are educational and pleasurable to watch :). Just wanted to say thanks for the great content and work you put in to it. Cheers man :)
Pedro Domenech it's more because of the drivers. 9 out of 10 bike riders think they are on a race track while driving on public roads. If you want to race just do it on a track. And why do they ALWAYS have to accelerate like lunatics at the traffic light? If you're in such a rush you're gonna be late anyways. But I just don't like bikes in general but I HATE the drivers
My very first car was a 1990 2 door Jetta. I swapped in a Corrado G60 motor with a Bahn Brenner Motorsport stage 2 kit. She dynoed right around 225 wheel HP, with a 16v tranny, bullydog clutch, MK3 vr6 exhaust, and a couple other mods. MAN that car was fun to drive...all you heard was the SC whine
My favorite thing about supercharged engines, is the fluctuation of RPM when at idle. Can't put my finger on what to call it, but it happens because the air intake has a minor vacuum as it struggles to pull air past the supercharger, and it leads to somewhat rough and unique idle sound. That's one reason I like superchargers over turbos. The sound is more obvious on old supercharged muscle cars though (cause of the carbeurator)
D Fuller lol trust me it was a turbo coupe. Upstate ny. Olivebridge. I knew one well. as teens a friends dad bought one new and we got our mitts on it. We made a 45 min ride to the county fair into a 22min ride in that car...that tach was above 5000 for a very long time.
My Sister's Boyfriend has an Audi S4 with a 3.0L Supercharged V6 with a smaller pulley, a cold air intake, and a tune and it makes 430 HP at the wheels and man it's wicked fast.
Carrado G60 (and VR6) were lovely cars. Pitted against the Calibra V16 (which was quite pretty too) they were that bit more exotic but also quite pricey.
Great vid!But seeing all those people in comments that insist that Turbos are the only way to go cuz superchargers eat power and are not efficient is rly weird. Both methods of FI have parasitic loses.Turbos restrict flow in the exhaust, and are efficient in daily driving only on paper.
99 to 05 buick regals could have a supercharged (m90) 3.8l v6 thaht would make 260hp stock, and easily get to 300 with very simple mods its not a lot of power....but the car is 3200 pounds, 4 wheel indy suspension (stolen from the corvette....that made GM happy) its actually quite fast..... the 3.8 makes a lot of touruqe, with a light car that actually handles great it was beating the corvette of the same years..... and GM put an end to buick performance division
Why don't new cars use a SC with a clutch pulley like an AC compressor? You can disengage it when crusing or city mode, and engage it when power is needed. It could be a far more simple and reliable system and could even be paired with a Miller cycle engine to get the ultimate economy/power combo.
VisioRacer If it was a 4x4 then I'll do it that track . But for sports car I'll on asphalt road. As for the body, I meant dents and scratches. Btw I never commented on your drifting skills :)
The VW G60 used the 1800cc 8 valve Gti engine. At the end of the MK2 golf production in 1990 VW Brussels made 71 Golf G60's with the 16 valve GTi engine giving 209hp.
it doesn't re-use the exhaust fumes, it just uses them to drive a shaft (through a propeller) which is connected to another propeller (which is connected to the the engine's main air intake channel), the air going through this propeller gets compressed as a result. (15-24 atms more/less depending on size, altitude and other variables)
You should have also mentioned that the G-Lader design on both the G40 and G60 was originally patented way back in 1905. It was not until the mid 80's and the advancement of engineering capabilities that allowed it to be manufactured.
The Eaton M90 is a modified roots style supercharger not a twin screw. Roots blowers do not compress the air internally whereas a twin screw style does. Pretty big difference in efficiency between the two types of blower.
MG ZT 220S is the Sprintex supercharger installed to 50 MG ZT imported to Australia. Great improvement to low rev starts until getting into the natural power band of the K series V6 2.5 litre.
Hi VisioRacer, In terms of mechanical engineering anything that forcefully provides compressed air is known as supercharging. turbo chargers and compressors(what layman calls super charger) are actually sub division of supercharging. Fun Fact... Old Kelvinator fridges used to use corksrew type compressors.. similar to car superchargers. This is why they lasted so long. Now most freezers / AC units use rotary compressors.
The English people say the term supercharger. We in Europe use the word compressor for it. The turbocharger is also a compressor, which is also named as turbo-compressor sometimes. This is just the way English knows this words used most commonly.

But is the march actually a twin-charged car?
Yep. it has a turbocharger and a supercharger
yes it is

I love the sound of a twin screw supercharger more than a turbo at this point, that whine sounds like a Batmobile or some other futuristic vehicle.

Modern VGT turbos reduce lag to a minimum, but nothing beats the whine of a supercharger

I won't argue with that.
