    Thank you for the video! I had to replace a lug stud that broke off on a 2011 Sportage. Without watching this I definitely wouldn't of figured out the parking brake release on my own.

    Very clear instructions and one of the best instructional videos on TH-cam. Changing my 2wd tomorrow, only has 53,000 and rear brakes are nerfed already. Found it very strange that the rears were in much worse shape than the front.
    Excellent video sir!

    Really useful video this, managed to do both the back pads and discs on my 2011 Sportage. Useful to note that the rear suspension/brake mounting is different on mine, with some rear roll bar bolted in immediately behind the lower caliper carrier bolt. Once I found a 14mm spanner rather than socket it was all good. Just bear in mind you may not be able to do the job with just a socket! Also on my car the handbrake adjust was at the top of the system, not the bottom as in this video.

      Just did my wives 2015 fwd. The lower carrier bolt sits in an arm so no way to get on it. I couldnt get on it with a wrench or 45 deg wrench and didnt have a 90 deg wrench so had to put pads on and box it up. Epic fail. I went to lowes, home depot and autozone and couldnt get a wrwnch to fit :(

  • @challis65

    Excellent video. I would definitely put the two small retaining screws back in the rotor (as you did) for the same reason as making sure the rubber grommet goes back in, to keep out salty cruddy water. I have also given up putting in the thin metal backing shims. I've had issues where the pads have been too tight and it's caused very uneven wear on the pads and caused a very bad brake chatter. I've had no issues whatsoever without these annoying little pieces of turds in there.

    • @jth1987leb
      @jth1987leb  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      challis65 I highly recommend you use the shims. What I didn't do in this video because I didn't need to was use a file to clean off all the rust on the mating surface. After cleaning it use anti seize to prevent the rust growing. The shims help seat the pads.

    • @challis65
      @challis65 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually only there to 'insulate'. Of which it does a pretty rubbish job. I find my brakes wear more even and have no squeals or noises without them. Also one Nova Scotian winter will have these rusted and falling apart. Pads are also a lot easier to fit without them. Many other mechanics also don't fit them for the same reasons.

      Thank you! Rear brake rotor was replaced , drove home parked in the driveway, about 5 degrees and car rolls back when parking brake is engaged. 😢; Kia dealer service said the 2016 Kia Sportage EX front wheel drive (USA) is self adjusting, but I have my doubts about that. • @jth1987leb
      @jth1987leb  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Warfam Raw I believe it's just PV Blast. The most important thing to get those hold down screws off is to have the correct size Phillips head. It has to sit in perfect. Don't just use and Phillips head, you'll round it off. If you round it off you can drill it out or just hit the back side of the rotor with a hammer. The screws are made of very weak metal and snap easy. But try and get them out. They are very useful during reassembly

      @@jth1987leb It doesn't make me look like an ass at all! That is my observation from experience and what I can see in the video. Rock auto sells junk parts and also good parts, depending on the price point spent. Almost always on cheaper priced parts there will be fitment issues. It's not a secret. You think its normal to install brake pads and struggle like that, and have to cut video to file down pads to fit!
