I discovered Diana Krall for myself in late-August 1998. Celebrating twenty-four years of appreciating the lady right at this moment; August 17, 2022. The lady is all that you state and so much more. By the end of October 1998 I had gotten everything which she'd recorded to that point. I especially like The Diana Krall Trio with Russell Malone and Christian McBride.

Everything Diana does is like an intimate magic carpet ride. She is made of music through and through. The "nearer to the beach at night" thing was a cool "departure"! Outstanding band too of course!

@@harrybolster7928 I have sang this song a few times at the only karaoke bar that has the original TD track and as long as we are all throwing around ages; I am 44. I much prefer the old classics over the newer garbage that folks are passing off as music these days. God bless you all and may the younger generations keep the love of this era in music alive! My 21 year old son is posting himself singing the old Sinatra standards on Facebook. He was misguided for a spell in the hip-hop trash up until I introduced him to real music. He is a true lover of old jazz now. I couldn't be more proud! We, as stewards of old, proper music, must not allow this beautiful music to fade away into obscurity. It is just so nice to know that, even today, this music can still be appreciated by the youngsters. Cheers! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

@@windborne8795 Hi Shanghaied -- Thanks for your very supportive comment--yes I do want to see the old music live on. Like you, I began with karaoke and then started singing on TH-cam, where I first memorized each background track, lyrics and melody. Then I sang each song without reading anything. My 89 years has not slowed me down, but COVID has made music studios for me to record in very difficult to find, so far. East Of The Sun is one of the songs I remember from childhood and is included in the over 70 songs I sing on TH-cam. Two other favorites I sing are Stardust and Folsom Prison Blues. Thanks again ! Glad to see your U.S. Flags--I'm a Vet.

Kenny Barron, Johnny O'Neal or Benny Green would be closer to Oscar Peterson's playing statically than any other piano players alive hands down. However, she is a good piano player.

All I could see was her forehead for the entire concert! 😂so much for having front row center. All though I did get the tickets for free. And I’ll give her credit. She had the flu and a fever that night(one of my security guard friends told me) and she still went on for well over an hour ! Kudos to Diana Krall.

Just watched this 7 times in an row. Had front row tickets to her concert in Atlantic City a few years ago, she wasn’t feeling well(I know because the tour manager told me so, I worked at the venue at the time) but she was amazing even still! It wasn’t awesome to me though, because I had front row seats, and I could only see her head throughout most of her performance as she was at the piano! 🤣😅 never getting front row tickets again! She was amazing! Had the flu, and still did almost two hours! Brava ! Ms. Krall

    Lyrics :
East of the sun and west of the moon
We'll build a dream house of love dear
Close to the sun in the day
Near to the moon at night
We'll live in a lovely way dear
Sharing our love in the pale moonlight
Just you and I, forever and a day
Love will not die; we'll keep it that way
Up among the stars we'll find a harmony of life to a lovely tune
East of the sun and west of the moon dear
East of the sun and west of the moon

DIANA KRALL - East of the Sun and West of the Moon
A moment ago I searched for some history on this old (1930s) American Songbook standard -- EAST OF THE SUN AND WEST OF THE MOON - and learned that it's also the English title of an “ancient Norwegian folk tale first published in the mid-1800s.”
“The Norwegian folktale, 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' [concerns] “a white bear that comes to take a poor girl away, [and is] part of a huge cycle of folklore and myth that has spanned Eurasia in the last 2500 years - first published in 'Norwegian Folktales' (1844).”
As I searched for the song, Siriusly Sinatra is playing my favorite latter-day recording of East of the Sun by Diana Krall's jazz trio -- with a particularly brilliant guitar solo on the musical bridge by Anthony Wilson. Search for it and the first offering, with 2.1 M views, is - even better - this joy-filled 'live' recording. I defy you not to smile as Diana ad-libs the lyrics.
The song has a very brief Wiki entry - but a long list of “Recorded Versions” beginning with Frank, ending with Diana:
Frank Sinatra recorded it in 1940 (with backup slang lyrics) with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.
Sarah Vaughan recorded it in a 1949 Columbia session for the album Sarah Vaughan in Hi-Fi.,[3] and also her 1953 EP "Hot Jazz (album)"
Charlie Parker recorded it on six separate dates, the earliest being a live recording at the Royal Roost in New York City on New Year's Day, 1949, and the last a live recording from Birdland in New York City on August 27, 1954. It is featured on numerous albums, including two renditions on The Complete Legendary Rockland Palace Date 1952.[4]
Benny Goodman recorded a memorable version with his sextet, also in 1952; this performance is included on Benny Goodman Sextet.[5]
Stan Getz recorded it in 1955, and it was featured as the first track on his seminal double album West Coast Jazz.[6]
One of the most popular recordings was by Louis Armstrong, featured in his 1958 album Louis Under the Stars.
The Four Freshmen recorded it on their album Four Freshmen and Five Saxes (1957).[7]
Keely Smith recorded it in 1958 for her Capitol album, Politely[8] with Billy May & His Orchestra.
Lee Wiley recorded it for West of the Moon (1958).
Ella Fitzgerald included this on her 1959 Verve release Ella Fitzgerald Sings Sweet Songs for Swingers with the Frank De Vol Orchestra and Harry "Sweets" Edison on trumpet.
Frank Sinatra recorded it on I Remember Tommy (1961).
Al Hirt released a version on his 1962 album, Trumpet and Strings.[9]
Cal Tjader recorded the song on his 1964 album, Breeze from the East.[10]
Ellis Marsalis recorded the song in the Wynton Marsalis album of 1991, Standard Time Vol. 2.
Tony Bennett recorded the song on his 1992 tribute to Sinatra Perfectly Frank.
Betty Carter recorded the song on her 1996 album I'm Yours, You're Mine.
Diana Krall recorded the song on her album When I Look in Your Eyes (1999).
Thanks Diana Krall for sharing (and not turning off "comments"). Celebrated this day at Sinatra Family - Forum - "Siriusly Sinatra" - MY FAVORITE VERSION, YOURS TOO? sinatrafamily.com/forum/showthread.php/50225-My-Favorite-Version-%28yours-too-%29?p=1307954#post1307954

One of the best female vocalist to ever sing a song. The best part is she has a great voice and doesn't have to take off her clothes to get me or anyone else to listen to her. I find that very refreshing especially given todays music climate.
