It takes a lot of knowledge to construct so clean a line that it seems written instead of improvised. And it takes a great sensitivity to have such a nice, warm velvety tone. Scott Hamilton is undoubtely a jazz legend by his own right and weight.
Scott has a great tone, something most sax players don't have today. They are more interested in showing off their technique. This is a pleasure to listen to.
Excelente Scott Hamilton ! Merece todas as homenagens por ser um músico dos melhores no saxofone, bem como por seu caráter. Scott Hamilton presta um serviço abnegado na Jazz Hause de Joan Chamorro em Barcelona, na distante Espanha. Somos todos latinos e ligados a península Ibérica !!!! Congratulations.
I'm one of the blessed inviduals to come across with this great musician in this very place in vienna last aug. 29. Twas a night with great music alongwith this local band.
Really a great tenor saxist. Underrated but a master of his instrument. As stated previously, a tight little group that swings. Should hear more of them.
what a great melodic jazz player with a great sound, ,does not need to fly about the instrument as melody just flows out all in the right place. What a great ear and invented solo,s . Lets have more scott hamilton type players on you tube ,Graham
Sorry to be off topic but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I was dumb forgot the password. I love any tips you can offer me!
@Bjorn Kieran i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Heaven on earth, Scott! I’m getting on in years and have to stop and pinch myself when you play. Am I hearing this while I’m still alive or have I already taken my last breath!! Absolutely love it 💕!
About a year ago I listened to this and really enjoyed it and had made a comment. This clip is still great. The sound is terrific and being a part time drummer, the drummer plays very well. In fact they all work well together. As I have stated before, its too bad that there isn't more video on this show or even a dvd for sale. enjoy
Swinging. Great group. I really like seeing the atmosphere and the setup where the audience and its tables are located right on the bandstand. Would love to have the whole video of this event.
I heard him do a tag like that at Humber college in Toronto back in 1980 or '81: confused the heck out of me. But then I heard Eddie Davis do similar some months later and I don't think I've heard it since. Excellent guitar solo too, I agree.
Oh, well.....the double tag sort of worked. I've done that myself, especially after smoking some great weed. By the way, Scott and I have the SAME birthdate, August 24, 1954. I can't help it if I turned out better looking, though....
Lol the boo boo ending happened because all they know is the lead sheet. Listen to original recordings guys! The person who wrote this is Brooks Bowman. At the coda, the melody goes on up the tritone ii-V-I. Happy listening 🎧
@terryc if there's a train wreck trag coming, I dont want to hear it..But no way do you get offered gret weed in Vienna, unless that palce has changed radically. Or any weed at all; but a wine headache, they'll offer you two of those s a day. In Vienna, we couldnt even find this one joint (''80 or '90) - after Amsterdam, rather a shock. Oh and as for jazz we couldnt find this club, either
The pianist I like a lot! Tenor Player is decent (hits all the correct notes), just no fire in the oven! Listen to how Charles Lloyd rips the crap out of the same song!
Charles Lloyd and Scott are both fantastic tenor man but they belong to different schools. Anyway Scott is really something more than decnt.. come on...
You can rip the crap out of any tune ... That doesn't mean a damn thing. Scott is not that type of player and the tune itself stylistically is suited to his style ... That's why he chose it. There are many different styles of jazz playing and that's what makes it so interesting. When everybody plays like John Coltrane, Randy Brecker or David Sanborn then you have the satanic homogenization of jazz like everything else. We are not all the same. There is not one way of expressing yourself in jazz that is "better" than someone else once you to get to a certain level. At that point it's all about what you prefer stylistically. There's a ton of players that have fallen into the gazillions of notes self masturbation type of solo that is driven by a narcassict desire to assert their virtuosity and has nothing to do with the audience or the tune itself. I am sick of those type of players ... I can listen for about 5 minutes .... Be blown away by their technique and that's about it ... I'd rather hear Stan Getz, Scott Hamilton, Stanley Turrentine or other really original stylists play one note than the usual cascade of nothingness that explodes out of most jazz players these days ... Check out Andy Snitzer for someone with giant technique but with enough restraint and taste to never let it take over the music .... IMHOO
Scott is well capable of playing up tempo but he plays what he knows his audience likes , most Jazz gigs these days are supper club type of gigs and playing in a frenzied style wouldn’t be appropriate but if you look at the festival gigs he was doing particularly in the 80’s and 90’s you will hear the other side of his playing he’s been a stellar performer for nearly 50 years
Dude Scott Hamilton decent? he is one of the greatest tenors alive. playing scales up and down fast isn't really that hard, making music is way more challenging. Scott is dedicated to play melodies. Any kid out of college could play thousands of notes. And make it sound really tense, play outside, play patterns non stop. they all sound the same and there is nothing there.
Haha, who knows? Apart from your music I love the pensive way you sit behind the instrument. I myself am an amateur pianist and play a.o. in our local hospital, and more than once did people come over and said: 'I find your playing so restful, thank you.' So here's to 'pianist personality'. Best to you.
I wish more musicians had this kind of stage presence. If you don't like what he's doing or you have a problem with what he's not doing, then close your eyes. I get so tired of hearing people say that a musician isn't "feeling it" or isn't "engaged" unless he/she is moving around with the rhythm. Phil Jackson is arguably the greatest coach in sports history, and he could coach 5 games straight without saying a word or even leaving the bench. People think a coach is not engaged if he/she is not pacing the sidelines being animated and obnoxious. Try and tell me that the greatest coach of all time isn't engaged in the game because he's just sitting there. Nonsense! Let Mr. Swoboda do his thing!!

the king of playing melodies over standards! I wish more sax players were alive who played like this!
Mr. Hamilton is among the greats, and plays with even greater passion than he did in his youth.
I know and love Scott Hamilton's music from his work with Sant Andreu Jazz Band in Barcelona. He is a superb interpreter of jazz.
Love the piano solo. Scott my favorite sax player, although there are many. I believe all great musicians
Excelente Scott Hamilton ! Merece todas as homenagens por ser um músico dos melhores no saxofone, bem como por seu caráter. Magnifico conjunto de Jazz,, Hamilton un maestro del saxo
Saludos a los residentes en España, desde aqui en Perú......
Love the arrangement. Scott Hamilton is one of my favourites.
Cada "solo" del maestro SCOTT HAMILTON es una "joya musical". Espléndido sonido, fraseo, swing y una fuente inagotable de ideas.
Musicality, elegance subtile swing and never superfluous notes, that is and has always been Scott Hamilton's style of jazz.
I'm one of the blessed inviduals to come across with this great musician in this very place in vienna last aug. 29. Twas a night with great music alongwith this local band.
Real toe tapping music, thanks !!!
Really a great tenor saxist. Underrated but a master of his instrument. As stated previously, a tight little group that swings. Should hear more of them.
I love Jazz with sweet melody and swinggy rhythm. Scott Hamilton and Eddie Higgins are my favorites.
I agree with you. Those are two of my favorites as well. I know Eddie was very, very popular in Japan.
what a great melodic jazz player with a great sound, ,does not need to fly about the instrument as melody just flows out all in the right place. What a great ear and invented solo,s . Lets have more scott hamilton type players on you tube ,Graham
Yes, a fine tenorist in the Stan Getz vein. He's never made it big and hasn't gotten the attention he deserves.
Sorry to be off topic but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..?

@Bjorn Kieran it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much you really help me out !
comme tout semble si facile avec Scott Hamilton...........La simplicité et tellement compliquée.....bravo Mr Hamilton , vous êtes incomparable
Genial Scott!!! Swing, buen sonido y musicalidad!!!

Nicely filmed this track. What an intimate environment to listen to truly great music in. As well, that guy Spitzer really can play...
Excellent piano player as well.
I like hearing endings like that! Gives me some hope!
Swinging. Great group. I really like seeing the atmosphere and the setup where
the audience and its tables are located right on the bandstand. Would love to have the whole video of this event.

Real Nice.
Just noticing how little mouthpiece he takes. I do that on occasion to get a certain sound.

NICE GUITAR SOLO!

@newsmanbluesman - Lay off the wine and the weed and you might spell better !!
DESSAFINADOOU
What's to say that hasn't already been said? Fulfillment!
A young version of Ben Webster. Suburb instrumentalist. And they swing.
I think this song sounds like Love letters a bit.
Beautiful Scott sound and swing, but the trio a bit sleepy....
@terrryc
gotcha - but missed an r in your tag - nice comment on hipness in Austria, and double-tags failed
実にいい雰囲気で素晴らしい! 本質的な部分をはき違えてて値段の高い「〇〇東京」とは彼我の差を感じる
Supersonic.......Eric

@@obergssin Hear! Hear! Well put! Thank you, I couldn't agree more.
Too bad the pianist's personality doesn't match his marvelous technique.
+Carl Rudd What did you want him to do, then?
Maybe dancing on the piano? I'm the pianist....
