It's the whole point of motorcycles tho, isn't it? It doesn't have to be the quickest, loudest or slickest, it strikes something in your heart and soul and that's it, you're done for

As some of you already know this here is how I usually get my test rides: th-cam.com/video/A_lVU5NGIUY/w-d-xo.html Which means that almost all bikes that appear on my channel are owned by the manufacturers, they're completely new, and usually in perfect condition. This RAW is different because you're watching a used bike which is owned by a big German dealership. I was on the job for my employer 1000PS.at and together with a colleague I was filming and reviewing used motorcycles in Germany. I was under severe time pressure to make those Onboard sound recordings which meant I didn't have any time to get used to the motorcycle before filming the RAW. Please keep that in mind when judging my riding style. More important though is the fact that to my liking the twisty stretch of road I filmed was too short. That's why I had to improvise a bit and include those boring straight bits to give you a better impression of what the bike sounds like. I prefer to do all my filming on twisty road sections but it was almost impossible to find stretches long enough to do so. Especially since the best roads were closed due to severe floodings in the area. I hope you're still able to enjoy this RAW. I certainly do since it is such a nice change for once to ride bikes that are a bit older and therefore have quite a lot more character attached to them!!
That description is spot on. Its why i somehow love my CBF600 more than my tracer 900. Sure tracer is an amazing bike but... almost anyone can buy it and almost everyone would have it above the CBF but it lacks the soul of that old bike. A bike that will never ever be made because of eu emissions, thats why older bikes are so special. Also that speedometer is amazing, never seen something that unique, new bikes can have their TFTs and shit, i'd always take analog over an iphone.
I agree with gujo. Even bikes that were considered boring back in the day become exciting to me nowadays. The smell, the rich mixture, everythings great
@@Schaaf Exactly that today we would only have the cbf500 that 2 cylinder one since its not worth making a 4 cylinder cbf600 cuz of emissions. Thats what makes it so special and also like you said the vibe of the bike is different than the new ones that cant be replaced.
There is something visceral about an old school bike. Watching you work the clutch and throttle on downshift is something that is lost on modern bikes and riders.
Another great video, your creations always put a smile on my face. My hemisphere of the world must be a lower rpm environment. Here in the land of V8s and V Twins the sweetest sound to my ears is a big air cooled V twin. A good rumbling exhaust makes a good thing even better. But, straight pipes ruin everything for me. My ears protest when subjected to the supersonic crack when an exhaust valves opens opens without attenuation between it and me. Internal combustion has provided many enjoyable sounds, the HD Big Twin is my favorite.
As an OG 2002 (2001 purchase) v rod owner I can tell you that in the US it was the first it’s kind! A liquid cooled, overhead cam engine was unheard of in the born in America Harley. It was not received well and was not marketed well. With that said, it’s a great bike that can be purchased cheap for what you get. 8:28
I thought it sounded a little more focused on volumetric efficiency than I was expecting. Although that's not entirely Porsche's doing, being based on the VR1000. The very deep, hard edged induction note implies some aggressive valve timing and large valve area. Also it revs so cleanly! Absolutely no comparison to a pushrod engine. When I first read about it, I wanted one for my dream garage. Having now heard it, I think it might even become reality. Shame about the Nova engines too, but Harley chose well for their own survival.
@@identiticrisis The VRod was very interesting when it came out, then I saw one in a dealership. The long low drag bike frame and huge rear tire didn’t appeal to me. I don’t know for sure, but I would bet my Dyna Wide Glide handles better.
Well, Porsche actually designed the whole thing in Germany and made it the first water cooled "Harley" engine ever. Harley later on tried to market it the other way around and claimed the engine was developed with the help of Porsche engineers, when Porsche actually was the company who did the heavy lifting. Rumor says that they ended their partnership over that dispute.

Can't beat the sound of a good V-twin in my opinion! That's why I got myself an SV650 with a MIVV slipon exhaust as my first bike, it sounds awesome and also has a nice deep burble in the low RPMs that makes a lot of people turn their heads lol. Sound isn't the only important thing for me when buying a bike, but when there are two bikes that both ride equally well and one sounds better, that's the one I'll buy.
It really is a personal thing. I can think of many V2 engines with a better sound: a 916, a TL1000, a RSV... maintaining the HD style, the MT-01 sounds (much) better to my ears. Even the recent guzzi V100 V2 has a better soundtrack.
I was intent to buy a vrsc street rod but the one I went to look at was a mechanical mess, very bad owner. Lovely vid. These have a really interesting history, the general belief they are an outright Porsche designed lump isn't *strictly* true. Porsche had a big hand in the engine and Harley Davidson wanted everyone to know that Porsche had a big hand in the engine, so the actual history of the engine has been pretty much buried. Essentially, the engine started out as the lump from the VR1000 race bike that was developed in the 90's for Harley Davidson's AMA superbike aspirations. Liquid cooled, 4v per cylinder etc. it was very far removed from anything Harley had built before so they did it hand in hand with Roush Motorsport. The result was a rather cool engine but unfortunately vs. the Ducati's etc. of the time it wasn't good enough. Determined not to throw all the money away they's spent developing the engine they took it and threw it at Porsche who pretty much 'cruiserfied' it. Rumours abound about what Porsche actually did with it, but they pretty much added longevity to it, via material changes, detuning and also altered the shape of the motor to better fit a cruiser style frame. The result was the motor for the V-rod. This also means it became a Porsche engine in the public mind and not a failed AMA race engine. Incidentally this means the motor in the V-rod is an extremely strong lump. It's possible to bolt a supercharger on and make 160rwhp safely, and over 180rwhp with mods to the fuel system. Detuned race motor that it is, it does provide a very sporty ride for a Harley!
tis different for me, i love how the merlins and their german counterparts sound but i only like that sound on planes. I had a Street Rod back when they first came out. I don't know whatever possessed me to buy such a heavy expensive bike. Plus, I never really liked the sound of it. This is the first time I've ever seen anyone point to the V-Rod as a great sounding motor.
How about Ducati 916 sound with termignoni full exhaust? I have and rsv mille v60 full akrapovic that sounds really good but the old Ducati bikes sound is quite unbeatable.
I have a small complaint schaff. hear me out.. I know that your put your mic in foam inside a bag,but the volume of your videos is kinda low when the audio is from the bag mic. Your videos are generally watched at full volume of headset and the experience of watching them is like this: the ad is deafeningly loud so we gotta lower the volume. then the ad ends and the video plays and volume is cranked up to full again, but it never feels loud enough and I just keep on checking again and again if the volume is indeed maxxed out. listen how loud the harley is in the last few clips and then on your onboard. feels somewhat of an injustice to the bike that the audio isnt loud enough, and to the other bikes in general as well. I absolutely love your videos but they just arent loud enough😝😝
thanks for the feedback although my Onboard recording is properly leveled in post production. It's compressed and its top peaks are at the absolute limit. The ads simply overdo compressing which I don't want to do with my sound files.
there's plenty of great twisties in Germany but there's way too many villages in between them. The population density is the actual issue. Some of your roads are absolutely magnificent!!! But it's rare to find long stretches of twisties where you can ride hard without annoying anyone.
@@Schaaf very true. I remember when I drove to other countries, how relaxing it felt to just drive 15+km of twisty country road without interruption. Can't have that here.
still prefer moto guzzi. In the end, they are better Harley when riding, in my humble opinion, reliable, quick enough, with a more sweet set of sound even also the clunk gearbox it's lovely...
🤔🤔🤔 es gibt so viele geile Sounds, der V4 Sound von Aprilia, BMW's Holy grail of farts, schreiende reihen Vierer, voluminöse ami V2, Einzylinder braaaap,.... ich kann mich nicht entscheiden was der beste Sound ist.
The rarest V-Rod variant, basically a naked bike built around the V-Rod motor, these are also the most expensive V-Rod variants on the used market save for the handful of Destroyers that were sold. These sound even better with a good aftermarket exhaust on them.

I had a Street Rod back when they first came out. I don't know whatever possessed me to buy such a heavy expensive bike. Plus, I never really liked the sound of it. This is the first time I've ever seen anyone point to the V-Rod as a great sounding motor.
tastes differ :)
How about Ducati 916 sound with termignoni full exhaust? I have and rsv mille v60 full akrapovic that sounds really good but the old Ducati bikes sound is quite unbeatable.
tastes differ. I could hear a distant variation of a warbird engine when the Harley flew by for the first time. That's why I love it so much.
"20-year-old bikes can move my soul much better..."
So, return of Little Honda when?
Doesn't matter
As long as they realiable, they good
It does matter to my ears
Also vom Klang her hatte ich noch keine, die nur annähernd an eine FZ1 mit BOS Anlage rankommt.
Nice!
This is inexplicable 😅
Cool
Does anybody know if it's just the 2005 that has this exact egine? I see lots of 2002 and 2006s for sale, but don't know if they have this ones magic
Headphones for this one. I think I prefer a V4, but this is still 🥰
V4 forever!
❤❤❤
thanks!
An Austrian in love with WWII fighter planes… well well well
What a gorgeous video
thanks!!
So far..... until you try a Horex VR6 or Benelli 900 😊
Probably
Moto Guzzi Audace 1400 is outraged with Your statement 😂
hehehe
Yamaha xsr900 GP plssss
I prefer the sound you record on 719 RNineT
That one was great too!
meter looks good
thanks!
60 Grad V2 wassergekühlt - hört sich an wie meine Aprilia RSV Mille ´01.
Sehr schön!
CB 500 jealous now
the CB500's sound never was beautiful to my ears. Enjoyable, yes, but not beautiful :D
Schaaf in Germany, complaining about a lack of twisties 😅 Yeah, we're not as lucky as you guys.
there's plenty of great twisties in Germany but there's way too many villages in between them.
🙂 V2s are always nice, but this one would become annoyingly loud to me quickly while riding it, and its not excatly engaging anyway
It's not loud at all
Als V 2 ganz gut. Ich empfehle die MV Agusta 750 F 4. Schenial
🤔🤔🤔 es gibt so viele geile Sounds, der V4 Sound von Aprilia, BMW's Holy grail of farts, schreiende reihen Vierer, voluminöse ami V2, Einzylinder braaaap,.... ich kann mich nicht entscheiden was der beste Sound ist.
Ich in Wahrheit auch nicht ;)
The rarest V-Rod variant, basically a naked bike built around the V-Rod motor, these are also the most expensive V-Rod variants on the used market save for the handful of Destroyers that were sold. These sound even better with a good aftermarket exhaust on them.
that's true, I once heard one with a screaming eagle I think. That was insane. Way too loud for my taste though
