@@martinx1525 we all have different tastes, as to my comment, thats how i have run the channel from day 1. otherwise my 5 favourite bikes would be in every video and it would just be boring, just because you havent heard a Horex or Migdula, or a Laverda V6, doesnt make them sound worse, as i said this list was impossible to be objective, everyones list would be different.
Agree… I have recently purchased an all original, white, 1991 VFR750 RC36 with 14k miles.. I always wanted one, and it looks superb. I trial fitted today a high level Delkevic exhaust, & removed the baffle. It sounds tremendous 😊 Not sure I’ll keep it fitted as I prefer all my bikes original, but I had to try an after market exhaust…to see what the fuss was about 😄🤙🏽
What a wonderful video. Worth putting the earphones in! This is of today, following a Ducati Multistrada down the high street this week, sounds amazing except with the dry clutch that sounds like a set of spanners in the washing machine. Excellent. My favorite bikes for sound is my 2002 RC51 with Sato exhaust, and my friends Kawasaki modified supercharged H2. Sounds like it is tearing the space/time continuum. Riding behind it is and hearing it is unbelievable!
As a child hands down the K1 750 Honda Four blew my mind and ears (got me to buy one when at age). Three or four of these machines with baffles out idling down the road sounded like a WW2 B52 bomber raid. My Triumph with the BSA Rocket Three engine was a head turner sound maker as an adult.

I came over to this video based on your reply to a comment I made about Honda VFRs being so iconic, so yes, your replies are appreciated! I am obviously partial to the V4 gear driven cam whine and thus really love the similar way a Honda RC51 V-twin sounds as it has the same whine. I have Moriwaki titanium pipes installed and the deep throat-ed rumble has never failed to make me smile in 24 years of ownership. Thanks for the videos and keep it up!

Totally agree about the Honda 297... and I'm old enough@ 71 to remember Ago on the triples and fours especially at the TT.On the banking at the Creg, he passed me several times so close that there was a percussion type of physical blast and the explosive bark that made me flinch involuntarily ruining my panning and left me with photos consisting of empty tarmac, tarmac with fraction of Ago's helmet, tarmac with end of bellowing pipes...I was 0nly 17 so improved over the years to pin sharp pics of Bob Mckinly,SMBH ducati win, Mcguiness etc but I'll never forget I'll never forget the Triumph Slippery Sam,MVs as their revs peaked and crashed as the back tyre left the ground around the mountain. one tiny criticism is you very informative comme ntary can spoil the sounds we all want to hear..maybe subtitles could help. Excellent research all the same.thanks. One thing that is not covered by anyone is the on bike sound experience, my 2000 Ducati's 916 engine has a great exhaust sound above 6000- 9500 rpm ( no catalysers), but the induction howl/moan going down the box gets me everytime.😅
glad it jogged some good memories mate, and i am editing out a raw sound compilation as we speak lol that is why i left the gaps, but the one im doing is just the best clips with no voiceover at all, no subtitles even, just the bikes and the music that they make 🙂Cheers for watching. Ride Free 🙂
Wonderful video and soundtrack... I have a bias: I still own a Rickman-frame CBX, supposedly the only one ever made, a trellis to make a Ducati look positively agricultural. 6 into 1 exhaust, about 100 pounds lighter than the factory version, with proper Akront rims and Brembo brakes. I don't ride it much, but just looking at it makes me smile. My daughter swears she will NEVER sell it, but might donate it to a deserving museum. Since I intend to live forever, that's immaterial. Keep the wind at your back and the sun on your face...

The owner Had his old factory honda from the late 60 in his showroom. A 350 Honda 6 , which he rode to victory, as a works rider for Honda On very rare occasions he would start it up !! To this day I can still remember the noise echoing around the town . Thank you so much you brought it all back to me .there is much more to this story. Maybe I’ll share another time Alas both my old chap and John have passed now . Cheers to the both of them .

Excellent auditory treasures every one. Great video yet again. Well worth the wait. For me, the Britton V twin has a quality reminiscent of the Rolls Royce Merlin: raw and untamed, yet with a definite brutal purpose. What about the outfits? I recall a clip of a Gilera on the IOzm and it sounded like nothing I have heard before or since. I know you have yet to get to thr two strokes but the Konig flat 4 two stroke with a totary disc valve on top certainly had a unique sound.
I’m republishing the 2 stroke one today and you will be pleased to know the konig is in there. And it is true. The Gilera 4 that was originally supercharged is a fantastic bike. Far better in many ways than the MV fours in my opinion. They will find their place in time😊👍👌
Wow! You brought back a lot of awesome memories AND introduced me to some fantastic sounding bikes I can't remember ever seeing before! I think I did post a tiny video of a CBX taking off with an immaculate old 750 4 from either side of my Burgman a little while back, he didn't wind it out since it was still fairly cold but, they do sound amazing when up in the revs and throttle. So many of them sounded amazing and I'm right with you about the importance of the sound. My DL650 with that Two Brothers Racing exhaust made a really sweet sound the gopro vid just doesn't do justice but, not a patch on these bikes you showed here. One I really liked the sound of that I had was my XS 750 triple shaft drive Yammy which had been worked over for racing so the engine was a fair bit livelier than stock and had a custom 3 into 1 that made a pretty addictive sound that made you feel like you had to wring it out everywhere you went, just so I could hear it. It wouldn't compare to most, if any of the bikes you showed here. I don't envy you the challenge of making this video and trying to position them, you took on a hell of a challenge and despite the inevitable disagreement many will undoubtedly have, I think you did a great job and thank you so much for it 👍.
@@barebonesmc I can see that, no wonder you're so busy. This one was quite a major effort I'm sure and 2 stroke engine noises are a LOT more subjective, plus a lot of people just hate the sound of them anyway. I'm patient enough to wait to find out but, I'm sorta expecting my old Suzy 550 GT to maybe make it into that one. I won't be terribly disappointed if not but, I did enjoy the cackle of 3 2 stroke cylinders running together. To me, it was probably the most pleasant sounding one I ever owned. It or maybe you prefer the 750 water bottle, or maybe you've got a bunch that sound better than either of them, either way, I won't give you a hard time since they will be a LOT harder to choose from all the different 2 strokes over the years and every one of us dinosaur 2 stroke lovers, yeah, all 6 of us will have different reasons for loving particular ones, plus stock or modified, especially expansion chambered ones will all suit different people. BTW, I remember you saying something about that "2STROKESTUFFING" and if it was the one where he worked out he'd built the expansion chamber ALL based off 1 wrong measurement at the head that compounded from there. Well he's now made a pipe that by rights is still not right but he had an idea and wanted to try it. It did work pretty well actually and got up to over 12 hp at the rear wheel but, he's only just done it so he's almost certainly going to still build one to known formulas but I think he's going to try a few more things with this one first. The one thing to remember that fools me every time is that in the bike his engine looks kinda big but, it's actually tiny. That top pulley up above that gearbox way up there is the crankshaft, it's only mounted up there on top of all that for testing purposes. I'm also loving hopefully to understand 2 strokes better. I've owned and even rebuilt several 2 stroke bikes over the years yet have never really completely understood exactly how they work, plus how to modify port timing by opening up the right parts to get the port timing to suit the way you want it to deliver power so this is very interesting to me. You kinda know it's a tad revvy when he describes 11,000 rpm as idling speed lol. A lot of commenters are suggesting his home made dyno isn't reading accurately and that they mostly all think it sounds like it's putting out more power than his readings are showing. HINT: If you're interested in power and the torque figures, get ready to hit the space bar about 3 seconds after you see him reach over to press a button on the laptop in front of him.
@@lorditsprobingtime6668 the 2 strokes one is shall we say, complex lol, the 2 stroke stuffing guy is very clued up, and not frightened to get it wrong too which is important. it is interesting listening to him. have a great weekend mate

About the 125-5 ...in an article I read at the time ...Mike Hailwood was testing it ...the mechanics said to him we don't know what it will rev to so take it to 18,000....after the test as he was walking away Mike casually said to them....by the way it revs to 22,000.....
Oh my. Oh my. I rode, at break-neck speed, my Laverda 3CE (predecessor to the Jota - which I later owned) down to the Bol D'Or at the Paul Ricard circuit in Southern France to watch the Laverda V6 race. As they say 'I was there' !. It was a hot week-end. At the end of the official racing the track was opened for approx. 30 mins (I suspect unintentionally) to spectators with bikes to take a blast around. I remember putting in 3 laps with my buddy who was on a Honda 900 Super Sport, before they closed it down. Such fantastic memories. I really like my current Moto Guzzi V7 850 but this has me wanting to go out and buy a more powerful bike !. Even at my age, once speed gets in the blood ... it is hard to shake.
As person from ussr era would add jawa 350 and iz planeta:) they had no performance at all, but that sound was promise of adventure (when that bike was finally started) that 2 stroke low rpm popping sound in idle is just magic

I love the sound of the R1 racers, but as an MT10 owner, I prefer it's sound. It is absolutely brilliant and I'm besotted by mine. I agree with your assessment of the best sound. I was on the Strubben Tribune bend at Assen for (what we called) the 500 cc Motorcycle Grand Prix in 1980 and Mike did a few demo laps on his old RC174 and as he pootled past us, he just kept pulling in the clutch and revving the B0ll0cks off it. Wonderful sound.

Even stock they were all new, uncorked and made a glorious noise. The fun didn't last. By 1970 bikes started getting quieter.
Well collected, some great sounds! Like you mentioned, hard to get them all. I would say the Kawasaki Z1 had a distinct sound when piped right. I believe the note changes with the later inline 4s due to the change to 4 valve head configuration. To my ear anyway!!

What a wonderful video. Worth putting the earphones in!
This is of today, following a Ducati Multistrada down the high street this week, sounds amazing except with the dry clutch that sounds like a set of spanners in the washing machine.
I can’t argue with your list, I’d be very proud to hear any of those amazing engines on my bike. Thanks very much

Excellent. My favorite bikes for sound is my 2002 RC51 with Sato exhaust, and my friends Kawasaki modified supercharged H2. Sounds like it is tearing the space/time continuum. Riding behind it is and hearing it is unbelievable!
aah but which bikes in the list would you replace? 🙂Cheers for watching and for the comment mate. what were your favourite bits? Ride Free 🙂
Great story 🙂Cheers for adding your bit mate. Ride Free 🙂

Ayup mate :-) glad you got here :-) when i saw deep throat-ed rumble i thought you were talking about my voice lol have a great week
I’ve only just discovered your channel and I love it. Thanks for the effort you put into your content. Having a Jota, it’s great to see it feature here! I love the sound of those sixes that Kaplan shows. The Kawasaki amazed me, I didn't know they existed. Lol I've had some nice sounding bikes myself. A 2002 Honda VFR800 with a Staintune exhaust, 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa, and now a 2023 Yamaha MT 10 with the CP4 engine. They're all good bikes and lots of fun to ride.
The Crossplane R1 engine is a peach

What a bike. I owned a CB500 and a cb750K and never new there was a little brother. BAREBONESMC is just s o cool. Thanks
they were the forgotten one, what a piece of engineering
Great comment and sounds like a special bike😊 cheers and glad you enjoyed it 😊 hope you will climb aboard 😊

Many years ago when I was 16 my old chap took me to buy my first motorcycle. A 49 cc MZ Simpson motorcycles. From the local motorcycle shop . The owner
Had his old factory honda from the late 60 in his showroom. A 350 Honda 6 , which he rode to victory, as a works rider for Honda On very rare occasions he would start it up !! To this day I can still remember the noise echoing around the town .
Thank you so much you brought it all back to me .there is much more to this story. Maybe I’ll share another time

I watched a TH-cam vid a couple of years ago and the CBR 250 gave a R6 a serious hard time LOL The next bike that you featrued that i love is the CBX 6 cyclinder what a bike . Out of my price range .I would say that watching this stream the best bits for me was seeing very rare bikes with 6 cyclinders . I have been around bikes for over 40 years and just didnt know that so many bikes was manufatured with 6 cyclinders. The best bike for me was the Kawasaki 1300 Eddie Lawson special .The best of the bunch . I saw one of these on the A5 on its way to Ireland a few years ago and fell inlove with it simply wow . Excellent auditory treasures every one. Great video yet again. Well worth the wait.
For me, the Britton V twin has a quality reminiscent of the Rolls Royce Merlin: raw and untamed, yet with a definite brutal purpose. As Clarkson pointed out, Aston Martin V8s are “poetic violence”, but New Zealand’s rarest export, and the engine that won the ‘39-‘45 air war both stand alone in their own realm.

I don't envy you the challenge of making this video and trying to position them, you took on a hell of a challenge and despite the inevitable disagreement many will undoubtedly have, I think you did a great job and thank you so much for it 👍.
cheers mate, imagine what the 2 stroke one is doing to my head lol, this has been a serious quest 🙂

10:26 hearing foggy racing one is definitely a lifetime highlight ❤
About the 125-5 ...in an article I read at the time ...Mike Hailwood was testing it ...the mechanics said to him we don't know what it will rev to so take it to 18,000....after the test as he was walking away Mike casually said to them....by the way it revs to 22,000.....

truly, but then came the Laverda V6 :-)
Oh my.

Wonderful sound.
glad you enjoyed it mate 🙂 We all have our personal favourites. Theres plenty more on the channel and the website, let me know what you think. hope youll climb aboard. Cheers for watching. Ride Free 🙂
You should get together with Allen Millyard. He builds some insane motorbikes
He is a master. a different league of engineering to me that is for sure 🙂 i want his induction heater for bending pipes 🙂have a great day my friend
It's funny; I was sitting here thinking about the 69 BSA Rocket 3, and how magical it sounded to 16 year old me. Actually 69 was a special time: The Kawasaki Mach 3, Rocket 3 and the KO Honda 750. Even stock they were all new, uncorked and made a glorious noise. The fun didn't last. By 1970 bikes started getting quieter.
glad it jogged some good memories mate, they were wild days, and even wilder nights 🙂Cheers for watching. Ride Free 🙂
Living in the USA, we unfortunately didn't get those wonderful quarter-liter screamers.
they were made primarily for the Japanes market, i think the ones we got were all grey imports
14:47 The new Triumph Rocket 3 may sound nice in some people's EYES?? 😅
if we all thought the same it would be a boring world mate, 🙂Cheers for watching. Ride Free 🙂
@@barebonesmc I was ribbing you friend: you can't hear with your eyes! That's all. They all sound good to me.
@papatorr3669 👍😁😁
The Honda CBX 1000-6 takes the biscuit for best sound to my ears. 🙂
It is a great sounding bike, i just preferred the bass bellow of the Benelli comparing those 3 🙂
and BTW the videos are much appreciated
Thanks for your support mate 🙂 the feedback does help me and i do appreciate it
Well collected, some great sounds! Like you mentioned, hard to get them all. I would say the Kawasaki Z1 had a distinct sound when piped right. I believe the note changes with the later inline 4s due to the change to 4 valve head configuration. To my ear anyway!!
glad you enjoyed it mate, and we all have our favourites 🙂 Theres plenty more on the channel and the website, let me know what you think. hope youll climb aboard. Cheers for watching. Ride Free 🙂
The Motus V4 with the "baby block" Corvette style engine is a sweet sounding engine.

top man
That R1 definitely sounds a lot like my vfr800
The crossplane engine does sound great. Especially at full chatt😊
Honda's whole history makes perfect sense when you realize that Mr. Honda's first great product was a piston ring whose spec and metallurgy was head and shoulders above the competition. He had to build his own motors to use them to their capacity!🙂
Great story 🙂Cheers for adding your bit mate. Ride Free 🙂
