Bike TROUBLE In Bangkok 🇹🇭 Preparing For My Next MOTORBIKE Tour

  • I ran into some bike trouble in Bangkok while preparing for my next motorbike tour and had to delay the trip by a few days. The Yamaha NMAX my friend loaned to me, was in desperate need of new tires and an oil change. I really wanted to get this taken care of before starting my next motorbike adventure. In this video, I get some maintenance work done, give you a motorbike and walkaround tour of Bangkok, as well as have a wonderful interaction with some local Thai people. I was able to get all the service work done before noon, even though I had to go to two different shops to get it all done. Join me as I also give you a short walking tour of a very exclusive neighborhood. While walking back to the tire shop to pick up my motorbike, I had the funniest interaction with a street food vendor. Such a fun, and funny, experience. The whole day ended up being quite fun for me and I got almost everything I needed done before I left on my next motorbike adventure.

    On the 2nd floor of the 29tire shop There is also a helmet showroom from abroad as well. Another thing is if you want to go to a Yamaha service center. At the premium level, we invite you to try Yamaha Premium, located on Srinakarin Road. The service there is very good and there is a place where you can sit and relax while waiting for the motorcycle to be serviced.

      Exactly! I was more impressed with how fast things were done than the low cost. For the time I left my house, went to the tire shop, got the two tires, then went to the Yamaha dealer for an oil change, the whole thing took an hour and a half.

    I’ve watching your channel since the beginning on and off. I didn’t know you speak Thai! Impressive! I hope you don’t get offended if the Thais laugh when you speak Thai, it doesn’t mean it’s bad, people just think it’s cute! I’ve learned very little of the language since I’ve got here. I need to speak a little bit slower, and obviously work on my pronunciations. I wasn’t offended by them laughing at all. I thought it was a great interaction. And yes, I realized later on that I had eaten chicken ass. Lol.

    Texas Chicken is the international branding of Church's in the states, and I agree, it is pretty lousy. The wraps and honey butter biscuits are pretty good though. Btw, I don't why you went to the Yamaha dealer for an oil change, my local mechanic charges 150 Baht and he's good. He's kept my 19 yr. old Yamaha Nuovo running like a top. Other than maintenance, I don't recall ever having spent a single baht on repairs. Great channel Serg!

      @LifewithSerg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OK, church’s chicken! I thought it looked familiar. Since this isn’t my bike, and I haven’t used any local repair shops, I just went to the dealer. 310 baht is less than $10, and they use the factory filter, etc. Glad you like my channel! Tomorrow starts the next motor bike tour series.

    I used to take Harley and Hypermotard 821 to change tires at 29tire shop.
    If it were me, I would recommend the ADV350. It had a lot of strength. more comfortable driving carry more stuff
    And if you are going to change the oil next time, I recommend that you don't need to go to Yamaha center. You can change it at a motorcycle repair shop. or at a gas station If it's a gas station, I recommend Shell's. It's the best motor oil. The price is about 150-200 baht, free of charge for both small shops and gas stations.😁😁🙏🙏

      Yes, I need to go and look at the ADV350. This Yamaha is not my bike, and I didn’t wanna look for a shop so I took it to the dealership and it was very quick.

      I have no idea if Patty went there. I’ve only watched a couple of his videos and that was about a year ago. I think the problem I’m having is I’m speaking too fast and my intonation, obviously, is not correct. Need to work more on my Thai skills of courses.

    Nice video buddy. I like these kind of "preparation"-videos. If you want to make a trip to somewhere there is mostly more preparations to do than most people think of. I hope your ex co-worker Cops in the USA didn't see your "sketchy things" you doing on the streets else they will talk with their Thai colleagues to give you a ticket. Hahaha

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Other than the challenges of fighting thru the dense Bangkok traffic, what were the other challenges to adjust to driving on the "wrong" side of the road?

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not so much being on the wrong side of the road Leo. It’s just the chaotic nature of the traffic. You have to be a lot more aggressive and assertive. Otherwise he won’t get anywhere. Also, if I’ve been out on a long, motorbike trip, I have to be careful because I’ve caught myself being on the wrong side of the road once or twice very briefly.

    I won't ever own a bike in Thailand and definitely not ride in Bangkok but this was a very entertaining video have I been brainwashed?

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear ya Jeff, it can be super sketchy here. I know that a lot of people get scared into things by watching news, etc. Until you’re actually somewhere and you get to experience for yourself it’s really hard to judge. Riding in Bangkok definitely takes a certain amount of awareness, skill and aggressiveness. I think riding in the rest of Thailand is no more dangerous than in other rural parts of the world. The biggest issue is that the roads are pretty much garbage 80% of the time so you have to be careful. However, everyone has a different comfort level, and I definitely would not push someone into riding a motorbike in an area like this, if they were not comfortable on a bike.

  • @mobylure

    Honda ADV is a good choice for adventuring and touring. I think you'd more appropriate with the 350.

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would have to agree. I wrote the ADV 150 for four days on my Koh Samui trip and really liked it. I know they’ve come out with an ADV 160. I have to go to the Honda dealer and take a look at the 350. I sat on the 750 version, and it’s ridiculous. At that point, I’ll just buy myself an Africa Twin or a real motorcycle.

      Luis, I haven’t looked into renting motorcycles, I know that motorbikes can be hard for as little as about 2500 THB per month. I just need to have a passport. They don’t require you to have a motorcycle license. I would use Google to search for a motorcycle rental shop, they’re all on there and have prices listed.

    Normal middle-class and rich local Bangkok people most of them lived in a soi like these all around Bangkok my friend, low income labour to middle-class or Thai from another provinces they lived in the Building like Condo or Apartment or Flat or Horpak up to their money and most of these soi(real local bangkok residents) they even have their village named and some soi or village they do have a security at the front of the soi to take care the people in the villages/soi and most of those resident do not allow outsiders, you have to let them know and give them your ID card to go inside, not like those homeless houses along the river or the train track or those places that you could easily walk inside straight to their residents or houses and many of them already lived there for a long decades so it's not weird that a lot of foreigners thought those people are the real local Bangkok.

    3:22 So funny. I think you pronounce 'un - nai' too fast so it become 'a - nai' so they can't pick up the word. Also Thai word will not change pronunciation every kind of sentence. I heard you rise the sound of 'aroi' at the last of question sentence.
