In the 100+ shows I saw Brent Mydland with the Grateful Dead from 79-89 I never saw Brent play an acoustic piano. That was an aspect of the GD that was sorely missed after the departure of Keith & Donna.
That week was one of the most glorious and memorable weeks of my life. Saw 6 of 8 Dead shows at RCMH: worst seat - 6th row right in front of Jerry; best seat - 2nd row right in front of Jerry. These shows - because of the acoustic sets - and the shows in 77-78 were "the Mott's." Yeah, I wasn't on the scene yet in 70-72.
So mellow and relaxing. This song get's better evreytime i hear it.Cool harmonies great guitar work and very nice arranging.I was GRATEFUL to have seem them once in toronto june 30 1984 at canada's wonderland.
Jim Kennington, 1982 in San Diego...Master tapes from the Fillmore East...i only got the hear the audio then......THANKS MUCH for the Video! Kuddos...i love to sing this one, love greggus
Thanks for making this great vid work with the 'Tube! Another great gathering. I thank God it was my beautiful fate to have seen them twice. What great communal music!! Tears and smiles. Keep on truckin'!
@TheOnlyAndromeda - you should thank your dad for introducing you to this music - this was a magical time to grow up - there was so much great music back then -these guys were just one of many great live bands
Perfect unison. This is why people quit their jobs just to follow this band concert by concert. Music everyone could relate to. Superior musicians and music
What's this "no thanks to youtube" (above)? You've shared this with nearly 44000 people at no cost to you or us. I think that's fantastic, and am grateful for it, to you, and TH-cam, and the Dead :)
seen them on the fairwell tour just after the death of jerry. im sure it wasnt quite the same with out him there but still one of the best concert memorys i have
you maybe still can! the Dead do tours still, only instead of one of the greatest guitarists ever (Jerry Garcia) they had to fill in with TWO of the greatest guitarists ever (Warren Haynes and Jimmy Herring, from Gov't Mule and Jazz Is Dead, respectively)!!! I saw them in 2004 with my father, who was an old deadhead... and he said it was BY FAR the BEST Dead show he'd ever seen! Quite an experience
Now that's interesting...in some of the photos and concert footage I've seen from circa 84-86, like on the So Far video, it looks like Brent has an electric grand piano. It kinda looks like a Yamaha CP-70 (the model Keith was using during 77-78), but it looked like it was in a brown wood body. Was that some kind of early digital piano or what?
A Dead favorite of mine. Are the obscure additional verses to this song bonafide? such as "Would you carry me uphill back the way I carried you? Take me further, if you can, (You know) I'd do the same for you." etc. Was that senator Franken at the end of this?
Did Brent ever use an acoustic piano onstage? I know in the late 80's he had a digital piano, but all the footage I've seen of them from the early 80's, he just a Fender Rhodes.

this is beyond every word and feeling..just a masterpiece

The parking lot of a Dead show is better than any other concert I ever went to, and I've been to hundreds. Disclaimer: It could've been the acid o.O

What I want to know - where does the time go??

don't miss the end
I still miss Jerry...
If I had been alive...
Which guitar is worth more, Jerry's or Willie's Trigger? I have to go with trigger,
Yes it was. He's a long time deadhead.
@TheOnlyAndromeda go see further then, its got phil and bob and they are sick
From Patti Cornell
That's SENATOR Franken.
That's also the teabag motto, Dead heads are NOT teabags! Just to clear up any confusion!
he played it in the acoustic sets in 1980 other than that i dont think hes played it
@TheOnlyAndromeda i got some news for ya, your dad... yeah he was a massive acidhead back in the day btw
My teabag neighbor refers to Dead as that hippie music! What happened to the hippies?
They damn sure didn't become teabags!
Mule sez--- it is just a choice--some of you have come along(~);}
