Myself and a couple of my good buddies were at the previous nights show. It was awesome, had tenth row seats. Hard to believe it was thirty-three years ago. Harder to believe I was twenty-four years old at the time and now I'm closing in on sixty. But I don't care, listening to one of if not the best rock group in history keeps me young. Damn you Jerry why didn't you take better care of yourself! We all loved you man and sure didn't want the music to stop or the love stop flowing! "Seems like all this love was just a dream/ and in the end there's still that song''... Miss you Jerry, miss you so much. Peace out to all my fellow deadhead brothers and sisters. The Dead will always live because The Dead will never die.
At you sure? Causer I had an Oakland 1986 I wanna say? New years DVD. That's the first time I heard this version. I'll tell you, I fell in love again. That's the last song, I jammed out with my brother, about a week before he passed away. Great Song!
Jerry's famous for his soaring and melodic leads in the upper registers, but I've always been partial to his lower register vamps like on this tune. He always had such great guitar tone.
Never had the opportunity to see the Dead, but last night saw bob weir and Ratdog. They opened with "playing in the band" and "cold rain and snow". Incredible show
Was at this show , 11th row center. Saw them many times and this was one of the best ...OMG..Radio City Music Hall. Class production start to finish. Sound, Lighting,And ambjence all top notch. One of the best shows I ever saw, and that is saying alot. It was an honor to be there.
Holy G Science! Rock on Jerrry. I miss you bro! saw the dead in 91 and it was a nice try, but sad miss, yet I was lucky to see Jerry and the boys as good as they were. I have no regrets or doubts about their skillzs at that point.
@thebigschott I heard the original faster version in 1967 at the Grand Ballroom in Detroit, ended up seeing them at all three concerts that weekend, then recorded this song later with my group.
wow!!! love the last min- that crowd is bouncing of walls...no one can stop moving and there is no music, got my halloween tic for phil in nyc today.>>>psched
for me its like hendrix janis and jim they were @ for like 4 or 5 years when i started my run in 90/95 it ended as quick as it started to bad so much fun back then and now just no jerry....forever grateful
@thebigschott Funny you say that. About 15 years ago I was at a gas station in San Diego cranking a version of Cold Rain and Snow while filling up and this guy who had never heard the Dead before came over and said, "That is so good who is that?" I told him and he kept at it with, "How do I get a recording of this?" He was from baja and with his whole family but had to know what that great sound was.
No Matey this was the 80's, and Captain Trips had changed his ships, (tho mighty he still sings) the fuel that kept the new boat afloat, was Known as "The Real Thing."
