    This is by far the most helpful video/instructions I could find. Others lack an explanation of the different variations and actual pins and that's what was the most important part for me.
    Ignition 12v = Pin 6 (bottom right)
    Ground = Pin 8 (bottom middle)
    Constant 12v = Pin 10 (bottom left)
    Had test wires in place in no time and both the Homelink and the autodim worked like a charm. Thank you for the video, helped me tremendously.

    Gentex makes all these mirrors for most OEM (Nissan etc.) This is the exact mirror the manual in my Hyundai Elantra shows. The one thing you didn't mention is that the model numbers also indicate the color of the compass as well. The one for Hyundai is blue to match the interior lighting. This makes it that much harder to find specific models if you are looking to maintain interior uniformity. Great video, thanks for sharing.

    Great video. Thank you. I just rewatched this as I purchased an older mirror with the external compass unit and it would fit the existing window housing on a 2017 Infiniti QX70. After watching this through a 2nd time I now know what I need to purchase. Again, thank you. The video is very helpful.

    Thanks - This was the best explanation of the pinouts I've seen on the Interwebs. It wasn't by color, which is good because different pigtails have different wire colors, apparently. The position is what's important. BTW I found that the #4 pin is for reverse override; applying 12V will turn off autodimming, it connects to the reverse light circuit. My pigtail also has a wire in #9, no idea what that does.

    Thank you for making this video. I ended up getting the updated mirror with the compass but it's a ghost compass since you don't see the little black window in the corner. Has three wires. Ground, 12v hot, and 12v ignition so it should be pretty simple to install while I am doing my head unit.

    Pin 3 is also ground , 3 and 8 are bridged inside the mirror. Also pin 5 and 10 (constant 12v from batt) is bridged inside the mirror. Just extra info if ur nissan pins seemed to be in different places... My ground was in pin 3 instead of 8, but works the same. Good video @dial2fast :)

    you did a great job of describing the differences. I wish all youtubes were this good. BTW, there is a lot of confusion about what will and wont work on a HONDA. this video cleared it up. I am now looking for a 453 and avoiding the 313 since there is not much price diff if any. My 2016 Honda HR-V wedge mount is compatable as are most Hondas now, but not previously. hope this comment helps the Honda people. thanks again.

    Do you know if any models of homelink mirrors fit on any vehicules? I have a hyundai KONA and I bought a homelink GNTX-536. I started by connect properly the 4 wires in the car. The mirror had power the light is green, and the compass work properly. But even if i maintain the homelink button, nothings turns red or flashing, it stays green. After that, i connect directly my mirror on a battery, same thing, i've power but the light does not change. Is it the mirror that have a problem?

    I have a 2019 Rouge SV that came with a regular mirror but I wanted this Gentex mirror so I purchased an upgraded mirror from the dealer. What I got looks like some cheap generic mirror off of Amazon (Chamberlain group ARQ frameless mirror with universal remote) that I can not program from my remotes - I have to go to the opener motor to program it. I had Nissan install it not knowing what it looked like before it was installed. So I now have some type of wiring harness going to the useless mirror and now it has a 10 point wiring harness. (5 on top & 5 on bottom). I want to put a Gentex 453 or a Nissan sku #999L1-VW102 mirror in my vehicle. Is it possible?

    I have a Hyundai with auto dim, yet i wanted to upgrade it to one with homelink, but it has a different connector with 3 wires, i was thinking of splicing those wires, and plug into the new connector. Do you think it will work, of course once I get the right polarity on each wire?
    Thank you Carlos

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it uses 3 wires, typically that's : 12v constant, 12v ignition, ground. The tricky part is making sure you wire it up to the correct pin.

    I have a 2011 Rogue .It there instructions anywhere to be able to get power from the existing wiring from the overhead console as mine came with a regular rear view mirror only ,so I have to get a harness ?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +mat smith You will have to buy the harness and run your own power/ignition/ground wire. to the headliner. If there is overhead console dome light, then you might be able to use that power wire for constant power, but you still need ignition and a good ground. It's not easy if you have never done any electrical install in cars along with having a multimeter to test the wiring.

    • @dial2fast

      Not sure where you buy it, but make sure they allow return so worst case scenario is you can return it if it doesn't fit. Even many Ebay sellers offer returns. But I am 95% sure they will fit. The other 5% is reserved for people to tell me I am wrong :)

    This video and the one following it on programming the Homelink feature are terriffic! Thank you so much for posting it. I have an Infiniti with an auto-dimming mirror (GNTX 461) with a 7 pin connector and only two wires connected to it. The mount is the same as the 453. I assume one of the wires is the ground, and the second connects to the ignition power. Will the GNTX 453 work, and do I need the third wire?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ira B. Dauberman I am not totally familiar with the GNTX-461, but from what I can find is it has built in microphone for handsfree calling. So if you install the 453, you will loose that feature.

    • @irab.dauberman438
      @irab.dauberman438 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      dial2fast I disconnected the 461 and the handsfree calling and navigation work just fine. The 453 fits the mount. Do I need all three wires connected to make the new mirror work? As I mentioned before the old mirror has one black wire and one white wire. I would rather not have to go to a GNTX authorized installer ;0)

      Ira B. Dauberman Does it have the exact same plug with the 461 and 453? There is really no way of knowing unless you use a multimeter to test the plug. Your original 2 wire system is probably just ignition 12v and ground. The 3 wire system has an extra wire for constant 12v so the homelink will work even without ignition. If those 2 wires you see on your harness is on the bottom row of pins as mentioned in the video, my best guess is they will work. But nothing better than testing with multimeter.

      +dial2fast It seems that many times, with some patience and a tiny screwdriver, I have been able to finesse the factory pin/wire out of a connector and then it usually just snaps back in to whichever pin location you want it to go into. IF the pins are misaligned for your new mirror, you might be able to re-key the factory wiring to your needs. As far as whether the homelink works on the ignition or not, I can't see how anyone really cares a huge amount about that functionality. As long as you don't have to re-program homelink every time you turn the ignition off, I wouldn't worry about whether it has constant power or not..

    There's a plastic piece that hides the cord between mirror and headliner. Any ideas how that clicks back in properly?

      The plastic piece should be 2 pieces and slide to extend. One end will clip onto the metal base of the mirror that slides onto the windshield. The top of the plastic cover will get pushed up against the headliner.

    The auto-dimming feature in my 2018 Pathfinder is garbage, it doesn't darken enough to my liking. I which I had that little switch on the bottom of the mirror so that I can just flip it when I want to. I don't even know what mirror to get if I wanna replace it.

    Thank you for your professional video ! I was able to install the same exact mirror onto my Nissan Titan. My Titan mirror had 5 wires. I learned that only 3 are needed to run the new mirror. Some helpful docs below to new installers.

    I don't believe your pin out readings for the GENTEX 453 are correct. I ordered a GNTX 453 (Model ZTVHL3) auto-dim w/ Homelink & Compass off eBay and it cable w/ a 10 pin harness already attached. There are three wires located on pins --> 3 (black), 6 (black w/ white stripe) & 10 (black).

    Highly recommend going to a junkyard that has maximas available, I paid $16.55 plus $3 entrence fee. $20 total really, but those three bucks can get you access to many more goodies hidden in there. Just sayin... Unless theres no junkyard in your area then i guess.

    Everyone should keep in mind that if you replace the mirror with a compass feature that it should be recalibrated for your location. Here's a link that shows you how. th-cam.com/video/RTbkSlAMi4o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hjERlirserfCS4eL
