It is 2022 and shows like Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Virginian, and Wagon Train are all before my time but these shows are great and I watch them everyday. Each show provides a lesson in every episode unlike the shows aired today. When they dropped shows that aired values such as family, honesty, trust, and loyalty etc. look at the results. We turn to youtube postings to enjoy great shows instead of mess. Thanks for uploading these magnificent videos! 👏👏👏

What I loved about the Show,was that there was always a morel to the story they protrade. As a young Boy,I enjoyed the fighting and shooting Horseback Riding to.Growing up Back in the 60s.My Brother and I tried not to miss an episode. Back then I think the time slot was Sunday night .
Bonanza represents the honesty and integrity that is missing from today's prime time programs, with the latter being about explicit behavior to a degree. It's a shame that young people today are being fed this and not the lessons I and my generation learned years ago. Thank you for posting.

Every story line has a lesson we can all learn from, so was the nature of all Mike was involved in. This is what is called good film, years after it was taken off TV and centuries later it is still significant and generations who didn't live in the time of these actors are now finding the lessons helpful. It makes me realise the meaning of the words you can't keep a good man down. When they discontinued Bonanza I guess they thought that would have been it. I see actors winning awards and there’s no way possible the movie or their acting actually beat another movie or actor. Therefore the awards given is an act of favoritism to place a title in front of their name and get bigger salaries for future movies.

I always wished that Ben Cartwright would meet up with and marry Victoria Barkley, from the show The Big Valley. She was super wealthy, had 3 sons named Jared, Nick and Heath and a daughter named Audra. You combine those two families and they would have massive wealth and no one would dare mess with them!
...Long time ago I worked for the US Forest Service. The old foresters taught us to never rush things...safety first...they also trained on tool safety and first aid. They said if we felt rushed is when we need to stop, look listen, and take a step back. Later I worked for electric and gas utility industry - I told my colleagues and customers the same I learned from the old foresters. If you feel rushed then take a step back and if needed postpone and reschedule the work. Bonanza always sending great life lessons.
That sounds real nice in a fairy tail book..But time is $$ and companies want productivity,men are replaceable,.Get back to work and do that stop step back and listen on your own time..
@@bigdog2618 I don't think that is so true for today because companies don't want law suits and negative publicity. At my husband's job, safety does come first and the workers have to take safety classes on a regular basis.

Gabe was just telling Ben to take it easy not to rush himself or others on things weather the project was Important or so as I understand why it is! Just wish Ben listened to Hoss about the object wooden crane breaking and just did other things another way around and no accident would've happened and felt so heart broken about Gabe! But even with modern technology these days can still break and involve and accident still eh! As I'm high functioning autistic going through a sad hard life have no job friends or a girlfriend being in compliant argued fought at trying my best to do what I can and accept what comes! One of my grandpa's was a logger in the Humboldt county area and one worked for the railroad in Sacramento California Oh how this episode reminds me 😊❤
This is a great episode and great story line. One of my favorite "Ben" stories. The only flaw in it was everyone trying to tell him that it (accident) wasn't his fault. Problem is that it WAS! Behind schedule or not Ben should never have used that broken tackle block and when he did he should have made DOUBLY sure no one walked under it for even a split second. It caused his friend's death and he was right to feel guilty. In today's world he would be financially responsible but probably not criminally. But in the end all you can do is what Ben did. He apologized, grieved for his friend greatly, tried to make amends as best he could, paid whatever penalty there was criminally (in this case there was none) and then after a period moved on with life. I'm sure that from that time on he would never put individual safety over meeting a schedule.

Well , after i happend to stumble over an interview done with lorne green playing ben CW in wich he said he thought of quiting the show many times during its run of 14 years it lasted , one can wonder how much both ep writers and founder of the show david dortort really cared aboute things back and forth during the years .LG said that , he thought the show was written very violently and oftenly solved cases and problems with shooting overall , i guess mr Green would have felt himself better at home in , little house on the praire with no guns and shooting at all .

Not a bad episode. I love that they tried to dipict depression, although as a fiction that needed to conclude happily after 48 minutes, it could never really dipict depression accurately, it was not bad.

I remember the day my grandaddy went through a spell of injured pride and unofficially turned a masonry business over to me,my cousin, and our unrelated half brother will call him and this episode pretty much sums it up 😂 bar fight and all , man that was eons ago. The contractor pulled our pay off a job after a walkboard broke on grandad and some fly by night out of state conjob workers slithered in over a weekend ,it all worked out in the end ,the contractor even had us go back on another job the junk crew did and redo a brick wall they stacked and floated coarses..this episode reminds me of those days.

This might have been how my grandmother’s brother died. He moved to British Columbia in about 1915. He was in his twenties when he died. Was logging a common occupation for immigrants there? They used to write letters to each other almost every day. Then his letters suddenly stopped.
Logging and lumber was always the most important industry in British Columbia, particularly in the 1940s and still is today. I am from Canada so I know. British Columbia--its coastal area share the same forested mountain geography and the same types of trees as coastal Washington state, Oregon, and some of northern California.
Yes, but take it out of that episode device. Do you know anyone without regrets? Maybe some, but would they be fully human? It had to be something bad to show the crippling of Ben's mind Also, how being encouraged to give in, by sympathy, is oft more hurtful than frank goading. And as he says, ultimately one can't turn against his own nature or undo his mistakes, only learn from them. Honest subject matter for a TV show, then or now.
We agree, the cheating, corner cutting, old scofflaw was completely responsible for all things and equipment that went wrong. He was responsible for the sneak drinking on the job too. We thought Ben should've faced jail time and stiff fines; loss of the contract would've been in order.
The cheating, corner cutting, loud mouthed foreman was >90% culpable for the death of the older timberman. Cartwright acted with wilful and reckless intent toward the first-degree homicide of the logger. Cartwright to be held 100% liable for a life long annuity for the child and a large lump sum settlement to accommodate the mother. Civil charges toward the Ponderous ranch and each son (heir) shall be pending and not to exceed $3,000,000 per individual. The heirs willfully knew the inherent dangers of working with faulty block and tackle. Subsequently, the timber foreman would be remanded to the NV State Penitentiary for a period of no less than 10 years.
I think Barney Fuller in away wanted to get Ben back on his feet, & he didn't want to defeat him while he was down & feeling guilty for what happened to that old man. Fuller is someone who wants competition.
Yes, it was difficult subject a on self blame, guilt, depression, and the process of getting back up again. In a way it humanized Ben Cartwright by letting his character go through this self examination process.
@@belbal5004 I was glad that Ben's friend's daughter rightfully told Ben that the logging accident wasn't his fault. He had no way of knowing that the equipment was faulty.
My elders told me from the time I was little never leave a double bitted axe stuck in a log .and folks back then could have repaired that block easily.

I find it very out of character of Ben for him to suddenly be so reckless and negligent as to ignore the warnings of his son Hoss and his men. I'd think he would have just waited for the new pulley to arrive. That being said, the guy who walked under the log as it was being hoisted up was a moron.
Sure just about one more hour, but then we wouldn't have had a plotline. That was a sub theme: extreme work ethic over appreciation of life. May things to mull over in this one. Differences in people. A tiger can't change his stripes. A good friend is one yhat won't overempathize or encourage you to quit. And more.
As it is with all agreements, everyone loves an alpha male, the father[ Ben Cartwright ] teaches his son's, Adam, Hoss, and Joe, this same alpha attitude and when the father show's sign's of challenges this same teachings come back in mysterious fashion's and lift his spirits and revitalize him through anger, understanding and forgiveness. This the blessing's that the older show's bring to the audiences for time immemorial, passing down this incredible and indestructible power, and virtue, in shows like Bonanza. And it's character's we all grow to love, as if these same gentlemen were alive today. We honor their legacy even today, in 9/21 thanks to technology.
I went too the ponderosa ranch with my late mother back in 1990 and it's at lake Tahoe where it's filmed and did go too Virginia city too 1959 to 1972 when Dan Blocker passed once owned ponderosa steak house and all were us vets
There is no good with god and the world is a much better place now because of it. You’re crazy if you think the 60s was a better time than now . Let alone the 1800’s . But Bonanza was a great show, we can both agree on that.
Loved this one. But the antagonist surprised me: he seemed to be a bully who was willing to be a scoundrel if need be, but at the same time he respected Ben as a rival?
You would think he is the bad guy in this episode but he was just throwing punches that he knew ben could take its like a game to them both thats why when ben was down he came to visit to help his friend /competitor nobody is the evil guy this time
I wrote that Adam (Pernell Roberts) and Pa Cartwright (Ottawa.Ont.,Can's Lorne Greene ) were less than ten years apart in age. Actually,Greene was THIRTEEN years Roberts' senior.

It was not an accident. Ben, after being warned, insisted on moving the logs pronto, putting all his crew at risk. Had he waited 1 more hour for the new block, noone would have died. He made a deliberate decision to go forward with the cracked block. It should not have been referenced as an accident.

Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Wild West, Star Trek, Giligan’s Island, and Lawrence Welk show. These were some of my favorites!

My son learned these lessons in Boy Scouts as well.

Building such a bridge was tough. Had to be such sturdy and durable wood. Waterproofing to the core was essential.

I also worked outside of Eureka logging and down in Mendocino co. Logging in the 80’s. Almost got killed three times I became a carpenter instead!

Not a bad episode. I love that they tried to dipict depression, although as a fiction that needed to conclude happily after 48 minutes, it could never really dipict depression accurately, it was not bad.

The Bonanza chronicles 2022, the story of our Lifetime. I love the one where god came to let the children decide for adults over them where they will be raised up as the family fought over them, then the rear priest walking in the church at end of show. let god be in your life u finally walk tall and realize that u are great in the eyes of God and others.

I remember the day my grandaddy went through a spell of injured pride and unofficially turned a masonry business over to me,my cousin, and our unrelated half brother will call him and this episode pretty much sums it up 😂 bar fight and all , man that was eons ago. The contractor pulled our pay off a job after a walkboard broke on grandad and some fly by night out of state conjob workers slithered in over a weekend ,it all worked out in the end ,the contractor even had us go back on another job the junk crew did and redo a brick wall they stacked and floated coarses..this episode reminds me of those days.

This might have been how my grandmother’s brother died. He moved to British Columbia in about 1915. He was in his twenties when he died. Was logging a common occupation for immigrants there? They used to write letters to each other almost every day. Then his letters suddenly stopped.

Logging and lumber was always the most important industry in British Columbia, particularly in the 1940s and still is today. I am from Canada so I know. British Columbia--its coastal area share the same forested mountain geography and the same types of trees as coastal Washington state, Oregon, and some of northern California.

And as he says, ultimately one can't turn against his own nature or undo his mistakes, only learn from them.
Honest subject matter for a TV show, then or now.
He was more than "kind of" responsible, he was very much responsible.
We agree, the cheating, corner cutting, old scofflaw was completely responsible for all things and equipment that went wrong. He was responsible for the sneak drinking on the job too. We thought Ben should've faced jail time and stiff fines; loss of the contract would've been in order.
The cheating, corner cutting, loud mouthed foreman was >90% culpable for the death of the older timberman. Cartwright acted with wilful and reckless intent toward the first-degree homicide of the logger. Cartwright to be held 100% liable for a life long annuity for the child and a large lump sum settlement to accommodate the mother. Civil charges toward the Ponderous ranch and each son (heir) shall be pending and not to exceed $3,000,000 per individual. The heirs willfully knew the inherent dangers of working with faulty block and tackle. Subsequently, the timber foreman would be remanded to the NV State Penitentiary for a period of no less than 10 years.
I think Barney Fuller in away wanted to get Ben back on his feet, & he didn't want to defeat him while he was down & feeling guilty for what happened to that old man. Fuller is someone who wants competition.
That was totally out of charat for Ben! He is normally calm and collected, unlike his stressed out behavior on this episode.
Yes, it was difficult subject a on self blame, guilt, depression, and the process of getting back up again. In a way it humanized Ben Cartwright by letting his character go through this self examination process.
@@belbal5004 I was glad that Ben's friend's daughter rightfully told Ben that the logging accident wasn't his fault. He had no way of knowing that the equipment was faulty.

I find it very out of character of Ben for him to suddenly be so reckless and negligent as to ignore the warnings of his son Hoss and his men. I'd think he would have just waited for the new pulley to arrive.
That being said, the guy who walked under the log as it was being hoisted up was a moron.
Sure just about one more hour, but then we wouldn't have had a plotline. That was a sub theme: extreme work ethic over appreciation of life. May things to mull over in this one. Differences in people. A tiger can't change his stripes. A good friend is one yhat won't overempathize or encourage you to quit. And more.
Even so, the accident wasn't Ben's fault.
As it is with all agreements, everyone loves an alpha male, the father[ Ben Cartwright ] teaches his son's, Adam, Hoss, and Joe, this same alpha attitude and when the father show's sign's of challenges this same teachings come back in mysterious fashion's and lift his spirits and revitalize him through anger, understanding and forgiveness. This the blessing's that the older show's bring to the audiences for time immemorial, passing down this incredible and indestructible power, and virtue, in shows like Bonanza. And it's character's we all grow to love, as if these same gentlemen were alive today. We honor their legacy even today, in 9/21 thanks to technology.

I went too the ponderosa ranch with my late mother back in 1990 and it's at lake Tahoe where it's filmed and did go too Virginia city too 1959 to 1972 when Dan Blocker passed once owned ponderosa steak house and all were us vets

You would think he is the bad guy in this episode but he was just throwing punches that he knew ben could take its like a game to them both thats why when ben was down he came to visit to help his friend /competitor nobody is the evil guy this time
I wrote that Adam (Pernell Roberts) and Pa Cartwright (Ottawa.Ont.,Can's Lorne Greene ) were less than ten years apart in age. Actually,Greene was THIRTEEN years Roberts' senior.

It was not an accident. Ben, after being warned, insisted on moving the logs pronto, putting all his crew at risk. Had he waited 1 more hour for the new block, noone would have died. He made a deliberate decision to go forward with the cracked block. It should not have been referenced as an accident.
