Countess Linda was as crooked as an old rusted nail ...just plain wicked. She had decided to swoon Ben, ruin the Ponderosa, give him $$$$ then she could have stock in the Ponderosa. Ben and the guys got wise to her and Montaque.

Excellent episode! I am far, far less for the so called humorous shows and prefer this one and/or the great, often moving love/romance episodes or the lawman and Cartrights out saving people, saving themselves, etc. This show is "A+"
It's practically a superpower of his, how he can figure out a person just like that. Given how thick-headed Joe and Hoss and even Ben can be, it's an important skill to have.
The episode is fantastic. By the way: Adam, besides being beautiful, is very elegant. I observed his elegance in the scene where the countess's villainy is exposed.
funny thing, Initially i expected the twist to be the Countess was innocent and Montague was the one pulling the strings (And for the countess to die in the ensuing confrontation, as is Bonanza tradition), was pretty surprised he turned out to be more honourable than her in the end.
The Countess was sure convinced and assumes a photo of her and Ben on the wall of his home is appropriate. This is a gift you would give to your Fiance or wife not a freind. I just couldn't see giving a photo to a man who is only a "Freind" of him and myself. I heard the best line from HOSS Your "Lady ship". That was so funny that line. Excellent Episode🤗👍👍
Judy, yeah that portrait was inappropriate for her to give to Ben. Probably every viewer put two and two together that she was behind all the trouble. It started when she got there.
At 6:42, Hoss, while carrying the wooden picture case aloft in front of his body and only his hat visible, politely replies "Yes'm" to the Countess and tips his hat with his left hand. Then, his hand is heard clapping back down to grasp the case again. But it's been established it's off the ground, and furthermore he is unassisted at the moment.
Old Ben married 3 times and all died soon after their 1st child was born. Then, every time the sons fall in love those women die too. If I was sheriff I'd be mighty suspicious of them Cartwrights.
46:46 as Ben walks back near that cozy fireplace, he ought to reach out and grab the ruined painting / canvas, and put it in the fireplace. If she later commented about that, he could say "I thought you didn't want it, because you damaged it". LOL . .... Actually Ben is too polite and courteous to do a thing like that.
How conniving ! She wanted Ben so bad. Lol, Cartwrights outwit everyone. Great episode. Ben lucked out. If he had married her, they all would have been so miserable.
Only the Addis Ababa people were lucky to look The BONANZA film at a time of release in Addis Ababa television probably in late 60th and early 70th ; nowadays, I got a chance to see through my mobile and becomes my favorite films .
MAYBE it would've taken too long before the men all just quit and never came back but yeah they don't think it all the way through. I mean they could wire money just like that back in the day, Ben wired money to a lawyer in SanFran during that episode with the marshal and David.
I'm only half-way through but can't shake the feeling that the Countess's helper has arranged this trouble but to what end? Doesn't seem like the Countess needs to play tricks to catch Ben. The Cartwrights' obvious misstep is not asking the bank who took out so much cash that made their reserves so low. And they haven't tried to determine who has an interest in seeing them fail. Seems odd to me that Ben would talk about a loan because surely he has a healthy balance at the bank. If they really need cash, then they can sell some cattle or some land. 27:30 she doesn't blink when a fire breaks out? She set that too? I dunno. I don't get it. He was totally into her until he got distracted by the problems that I'm assuming that she caused. Now I don't get why Ben doesn't talk to the men to determine how to calm their fears. I still don't get why helping Ben with money would buy her way into his family. It would turn a friendship into business. At that time marriage was perhaps more about an arrangement than love but it still doesn't make sense to me. 42:55 "... witch." :D :D :D that was beautiful perfection!
Joe treats Hoss with such rude contempt so often, laughihng at him. Poor Hoss! It does seem like "Ben" would have castigated Joe now and then for that terrible behavior.
44:24 the Lady's sidekick / accountant / business manager -- When he makes his appearance, he ought to have a couple bandages on his face or head, and/or a scab or scar or bruises -- then her Ladyship could exclaim, "What happened to you?!" !
The moment the painting was revealed, plus when they found out about the mine and the lumberjacks, as well as the way Linda talked about her and Ben in New Orleans, I knew that she was behind it all. When Ben had come out of the land office and said that Montague's name was on the title, I momentarily thought it was only him and Linda had nothing to do with it, but then I realized that she was completely behind it And Adam's suspicion was not without merit
Jason, No I have to disagree.. Ben said he wouldn't put the Ponderosa before a woman. Another episode had him falling in love with an old friend who was a widow with a troubled son. She turned down his wish to marry her.

Adam my favorite Cartwright is the hero in this episode.
Manners, and respect is what this world is missing a great deal of.

I admire how the Cartwright's enjoy having house guests, whether the guests are just visiting for a few minutes or staying for weeks.

Wow. This one was really well written. The most evil villain yet!
How many had the great joy of visiting the "ponderosa" in Incline village before it was torn down.
The countess breezing into town like Alexis Carrington.
And all she does is fluff up a few flower arrangements.
Why was that box so heavy? All it had inside it was one framed painting, but even Hoss could barely lift it!!
