    On paper, the Huawei P10 hasn't lit up our audience of smartphone fans. Many folks feeling this design language, and list of improvements, is only a dull iteration. Having spent a few weeks with the phone now, has our opinion evolved? Let's see if the Huawei P10 is better than the sum of its parts.

      I've also been using this phone for that length of time. It's been great! However, now the battery appears to be dying, and I'm forced to change phones...now I'm going to be forced to get a big clunky phone. I really liked this tiny and slim phone.

    Honestly I like the way p9 looked more than the 10. Not being a huge fan of front fingerprint sensor. but the spec improvement is a good thing

      I agree. The P9 had a very distinct aesthetic. The P10 looks like a chimera with oneplus 3, honor 8 and iphone parts. That fingerprint sensor needs to go back where it belongs!

    What it needs is a swipe up/down gesture to pull the notification panel.
    I also liked the old separated notification/shortcut panel, it was clean, transparent and intuitive. Not the shortcut buttons are tiny, and the second pull needs to start in a very narrow row of buttons - you need to concentrate more and it's really annoying when you miss and you need to try a couple of times to succeed.

    You did a great job at highlight the phone's pros and cons. I think the P10 is the best all-rounder out there: great build, accurate display, hardware on par with the competitors and the best of it, its camera. As a 'mobile photography' enthusiast, I can really say the P10 offers one of the best setups on the market. Also, the price is just right, according to the phone's capabilities. But it can't be the perfect phone, it has one big flop, and you mentioned that too : EMUI.
    Overall, it's a nice phone I would like to own. I liked your review, mainly because it was objective. Keep up with the good work, Juan. :)

  • @infidelgastro
    @infidelgastro 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If I was in the market for a new phone, which I'm not, I'd be all over this device if it wasn't for the EMUI interface and dual camera lens array irrespective of how good it may be. It's also a pity the front bezels don't match the rear blue colour, they should, but that's not too much of a biggie for me, it would be put in a case anyway. I'll be abstaining from purchasing a new primary phone this year and rather replace my 2015 Galaxy A3 with the 2017 Galaxy A3 as my secondary device for my training and workouts instead.

    +Juan Bagnell that was barely a preview man. "The battery lasts whole day and I'm not gonna review the camera." What?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did the same battery run tests I do for all phones, and why re-review a camera which is functionally the same as one we've already tackled in-depth? You want a 12 minute video of me saying "Yup, still the same as the Mate 9..." ?

    • @VoloKinProject
      @VoloKinProject 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I want a Juan Style real camera review, that's what I enjoy. People who buy Huawei for 1st time will be interested in this particular one, not how it compares to Mate 9. And if you call 30min video streaming a battery test, well... How many hours SOT? Some people get through the day with 2, others with 6. What was your SOT, 4G, wi-fi, mixed?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Screen on time is a HIGHLY subjective metric. A significant portion of MY daily use is screen off, but still hitting CPU and radios hard. I've normalized on one specific test as an example of a single daily behavior people might do. If you want a bunch of different metrics, there are other outlets that will give you artificial benchmarking stats.

    • @VoloKinProject
      @VoloKinProject 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JuanBagnell most people watching those videos are going to squeeze every bit out of their battery, so its kinda important to tell them what to expect. Basically every new phone will get you trough the day with average use. Please take this as a constructive critic because I like your style and want you to improve. I know, who am I to tell you how to do it but if I can do it then you should as well.

  • @swonghobby
    @swonghobby 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been wanted to get the Huawei P9, looked very impressive. The only problem I ran into is There's just too many models within the P9. Between UK and China, there's 6 different models, which confused the sheets out of me. I wanted one that can work with the TDD LTE in the US as well as FDD LTE in China when I travel. Couldn't figure out which model is which and the sellers on Amazon carries different models and no warranty. Didn't want to take a chance. Went with A Sony. Instead.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We're getting to a point, I wonder if it would just be cheaper for a manufacturer to make one phone model and include support for EVERY band, or if it really is cheaper to make different phones for different regions.

    • @SyncF

      Ramon McNally Disagree on the software part. Got Android 7 on my P9, and not only did it improve battery and performance (unlike iOS 10 on my iPad Air 2 which fucked everything up) but I got the update VERY quickly. Besides, Samsung still hasn't fully released Android 7 worldwide. It's pathetic.

      @shrijanshetty6642 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SyncF what happened with your air 2

    • @SyncF
      @SyncF 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shrijan Shetty iOS 10.1 completely shat on my battery life which had previously been of up to 11-12hrs of media (Wifi) use, with sometimes having my Bluetooth keyboard connected as well. Should I mention, INTENSIVE USE. The new OS worsens this despite me turning most of the "extra" features of iOS and the iPad off, manages to give me a worse battery life which, while not disastrous per se, it's noticeable and plain annoying.

    I'm really disappointed that no Huawei phones aside from the Honor 8 have implemented that button under the fingerprint scanner. Great review! nice to see that Huawei is still kicking ass, IMO the P9 was a great performer already, and the new kirin and Ufs storage just rocks.
    that fingerprint sensor is a missed opportunity, they should have copied OnePlus straight way, and not Apple with their one button thing...

    I'm really impressed with all the sample shots you've shared on your instagram. The P10 looks like a winner in my book, though the only thing I find really confusing is that fingerprint sensor gestures. It would make a lot more sense to me to tap for Home, hold for recent apps and swipe left for back. Are these programmable?

    Hello Juan, what brand of screen protector do you use on your smartphones? Is it tempered glass? I noticed that it is very precisely cut on phones with curved glass like this one, I like it

    I loved the P9's performance, but I thought it was a visual step down from the P8. I think the P10 actually looks better, and the hardware is just phenomenal.
    Super underrated. If they just stop... flattering Apple if you know what I mean...and cleaned up the skin (or better, go stock) then this is a legit phone of the year contender

    HUAWEI is using three types of storage interfaces in P10 & P10 PLUS, eMMC 5.0, UFS 2.0, UFS 2.1. The former is more than 3 times lower than the latter in speed. HUAWEI admitted it in an official announcement but insisted there is no perceivable difference between the three. Think twice before you considering buy one.

    I am the only one who preferred the look on the p10 to 9, don't like those lines under the glass thing and the back looks more refined now.
    Price wise and that weird gesture to multitask, maybe give this a miss. S7 and the P9 are about the same price now in my country

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a tough call. Huawei relied on market research data (more people buying samsungs) RIGHT before Samsung moved their sensor to the back, where Huawei was ahead of the curve. Tricky.

      No joke. Kirin is a beast.

    • @GmodGTX
      @GmodGTX 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JuanBagnell yeah, it's impressive what they managed to do power wise, and it actually seems to be somewhat power efficient as well, which is very important.
      It doesn't even look like the Snapdragon 835 will be more powerful Cpu wise than the Kirin 960, but it's on Samsungs 10nm fabrication, so it will be more power efficient. I have no doubt that the Exynos will blow them both out of the water tho, as they always has so far, so I don't see why they won't now.

    • @NeXMaX
      @NeXMaX 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GmodGTX idk, though.
      It's mighty impressive to see Huawei eek out a load of performance out of a 16nm chip, and finally packing in a nice GPU to boot.
      I'd be excited to see what they can do when it's a 10nm chip. The Kirin 950 and 955 were well-performing chips. The Kirin 960 is just beastly.

    • @GmodGTX
      @GmodGTX 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      D13H4RD2L1V3 The 950 and 955 weren't really that impressive in my eyes, they were alright, but I preferred the snapdragon at the time. The 960 is the one that really showed me that Kirin has learned something and is now able to produce good SoCs, hopefully.
      I'm mostly excited for the Exynos tho, since they have always been ahead of any other SoC out there since the S6 days. Rumor also has it the Exynos will have a 20 core G71 from Mali, which might even dethrone Snapdragon from the Gpu throne. The 835 is made on the same fabrication, but Snapdragon never impresses me, they're always just "decent".

    • @NeXMaX
      @NeXMaX 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GmodGTX The Snapdragon chipsets have always been good in GPU performance. The 820's Adreno 530 is quite a potent performer, though some games like Marvel Future Fight is not optimized for Adreno GPUs.
      Though I won't deny that Qualcomm has been slacking. The Snapdragon 810 and even the 808 were quite a mess and even though the 820 is a significant improvement, when you compare CPU performance overall against the Exynos 8890 and Kirin 960, it's disappointing.
      I don't think Qualcomm will pick up until their market dominance is threatened.

    Great review! I write this comment from my P9 which i really like, even more after android 7.0 and EMUI 5 update. I think you should compare P10 more with the P9 than the Mate 9. But still keep up the great work guys! I love your videos! :)))

      what are the chances of this devices getting to the US? Since the P9 was never available. I really want to get the P10 Plus. I read somewhere that it was up to the carriers, and they seem not to like Huawei :(

    • @swonghobby

      Ramiro Garcia they branded themselves under the Honor Name in the US. The Honor 8 is almost a copy off the P9 but not quite. I so wish Huawei as a company would come into the US as well, but that would be kicking themselves on the butt.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
