    man these phones are downright magnificent. if they advertised more aggressively in the US, they could be just as big as the Pixel and the like

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Agreed. A carrier deal couldn't hurt either.

    • @ThatsPety
      @ThatsPety 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      JuanBagnell yep. The Pixel and the Moto Z have Verizon to thank for a lot of their popularity

    • @Robyne_u61
      @Robyne_u61 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      jnjjules lol! probably not I mean its google it would've gotten more popular if it wasn't just for verizon

    • @ThatsPety
      @ThatsPety 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Luis Uribe I said for a lot of their popularity. Google isn't known for making phones. Take that, combine that with a bunch of Verizon ads, AND the Pixel being front and center in Verizon stores for people to use and hold for themselves, and yeah, probably so

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's a double edged sword. A carrier exclusive could harm a brand, but a good carrier partnership is the primary way many consumers will experience a phone, or get a chance to hold it in their hands.

    this guy is probably my favorite reviewer at pocketnow. I love how he actually talks about the headphone performance, rather than just "it has a headphone jack"

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      LOL We have the courage to ACTUALLY listen to music on that headphone jack... With nice headphones too ;-)

      JuanBagnell yes thank you. I'm waiting for the real audio review of the GS8+ before I buy it, but if it has a pretty good DAC then it will be my next phone it looks incredible

    I don't like manufacturers doing this. You should get the same options/features on both P10 and P10 Plus. What if I don't like the size of the P10 Plus but I want 6GB of RAM and f/1.8 aperture lens on the P10?

    I like the idea of keeping everything the same except the display and the battery on these regular and plus devices.. it makes the buying process simpler without being forced to pay for the larger or settle with the smaller phone because of its feature that you like

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree :-)

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      VTEC kick in i agree if the extra price is fair but the £100 difference between the s8 and s8 plus you should get more than a bigger screen and battery. Also the p10 plus gives the option of 6gb RAM and 256gb SSD for small price increases and for power users having that option is good, even the note line no longer caters for that option. Glad to see the Chinese market are more discerning and push for options as the way Samsung is going is disappointing, although probably healthy for their bottom line.

  • @russkovich
    @russkovich 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just got my P10 Plus and it's crazy good, completely agree with you on it being a send-off to 16:9 phones. I wasn't crazy on the new aspect ratios on the G6 and S8. And long live the IR blaster. This phone is like the culmination of everything that's good about the P9s, Honor 8 and Mate 9, with a better screen and camera. My only gripe about the camera, and I've seen other reviewers mention this, is that the reds are reeeeally overblown in some shots. Looking forward to your camera review.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup. Unlike the Mate, the P series seem to be pushing the consumer side more. Like losing the directional mics too. I REALLY liked that feature on the Mate. Otherwise, this has still been an absolute beast of a phone to cart around.

    • @russkovich
      @russkovich 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right, forgot about the directional mics from the Mate 9. You think Huawei can be lobbied to add it in a software update or it's hardware-based?

    huawei are doing a fantastic job.. even though the kirin 960 is a 16 nm chip it preforms like the snapdragon 835 and the exynos 8995 .. cant wait till they release the 10 nm 970 .. wanted to upgrade my htc 10 to a s8 but on a second thought ... ill wait 5 more months the note 8- mate 10 and the v30 the end of this year will be epic when it comes to smartphone tech

    • @SomeGadgetGuy

    Huawei and their Honor sub brand are doing some great work. I looked at the OnePlus and some other phones after my Nexus 5X bootlooped on me. Some prices were really expensive like $400 USD.
    Then came along an Honor 8 that I snagged for $260 USD. I love this device and been using it for a month so far. Really impressive for its price and the blue color of the Honor 8 is awesome.
    I really like it and might buy another Huawei or Honor next time in another couple of years.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Whoa. Honor 8 for $260 is a KILLER buy.Well done.

    • @DiamondRyce
      @DiamondRyce 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know its crazy, I paid $275 USD for that Nexus 5X last year. Now I found the Honor 8 under that price and was blown away by its price. Specs and the exact same 5.2in form factor are much better than the 5X as well.
      Still getting used to EMUI but the knuckle gestures are actually fun to use. I may miss Stock Android and camera quality to a certain extent but overall very happy with my choice.

    • @ayounghosh9218
      @ayounghosh9218 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      DiamondRyce damn that's a good deal, i bought mine for 462$ where the one plus 3t costed
      around 410$ i initially went to buy the one plus 3 but when i saw that blue beauty staring at me on the display , i knew which phone I'll take home... and now after 2 months of use, I'm still as happy as the first time i used the phone, this phone is certainly aging well

    • @fcurcic

      Amazon when I bought it last month. It was technically that Used - Like New from one of those third party sellers Cellworks Unlimited. It was not in its retail box and it didn't come with Huawei's super charger but I have tons of USB C chargers and cables thanks to the Nexus I had previously.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not really the fight though is it. We all know the GS8 will win the sales and consumer lock in war. What we want to see though is some healthy 3rd, 4th, and 5th place competition. Huawei is third globally, and has been steadily increasing that market share. As long as they're putting pressure on the top two, then we'll still win as consumers. If the game is ONLY Apple vs Samsung, we all lose.

  • @ayounghosh9218

    can you suggest a good and cheap audio DAC that can make the sound output of any huawei phone better?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooof. I'm not really well versed on mini-dacs. I use a little Fiio as our baseline for comparisons and it seems to get the job done on most phones.

    • @ayounghosh9218
      @ayounghosh9218 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JuanBagnell yeah but the job doesn't get done on the huawei phones,the sound is clear but not punchy, everything muted on it,i tried many headphones on them and found out that the output is not loud even a cheaper Asus phone gives better output....i want an audio DAC that can make the phone provide similar output like the fiio x1

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hopefully Android audio support improves with Android O, but that means we all have to wait for updates or go out and buy new phones.

    • @ayounghosh9218
      @ayounghosh9218 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JuanBagnell i thought it's the hardware responsible for the audio output, didn't know it can be improved with a software update,i tried many audio players but all gave similar output

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Somu GHOSH the software in Android O should deliver better support for audio hardware. Right now, Android has fairly poor support for USB audio. O brings low latency support and better Bluetooth audio.

    There should be just a bits and pieces as add on on the list products as all don't prefer phablets rather handy 5" phones. Vast differences and upgrades between smaller & plus products changes the price tag to a greater extent. This makes the buyers sceptical about the purchase adding to lower sales from region to region love of size.

  • @RenatoLaporte
    @RenatoLaporte 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe they kept the smaller aperture in the P10 because of space, maybe the smaller body required something else to be behind the sensor, and they wanted a flush lens.
    I also get the resolution bump, although I like Samsung's option better, give us 2k and a software control over the render resolution. (Must say, at least this year is not so crazy as with the P9, where the regular had a LCD display and the Plus had a AMOLED).
    The battery is logic.
    But there is nothing that explains why the regular P10 does not have a IR led, or why it doesn't have the IPx3 (seriously?) rating.
    I also think they should have gone with 64 or 128GB om both, and well, the 6GB of ram is more, just because we can, specially when Huawei's OS is monitoring every single background process.
    So, IMO, Samsung does the best implementation of a regular and plus phone.

    I think it's good for the companies to make a bigger phone have the better spec sheet, but as a consumer, going for the smaller screen/body size and having to sacrifice all of the things that make the bigger phone better, shouldn't be a thing for compromising on a smaller footprint.

      Where I'm at. I genuinely prefer smaller phones. Kind of a bummer when it feels "lesser than" the bigger phone.

    I think only one phone should be launched not two phones like normal and plus versions. They should do their best on one smartphone and release it.

    What the hell... how do you crashed the sensor's cover glass (or the sensor itself) on that Samsung NX30??? A speedy rock went thru while changing lenses ?? o.O never seen that type of damage before.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Me neither. I've never dropped it either. I think it might have taken a few bumps in a camera bag during our trek out to New York, but I baby this thing. Super disappointed, and Samsung left me completely high and dry. These lenses are useless.

    • @kentjosephclark
      @kentjosephclark 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JuanBagnell I mean the big black gap between the screen and front panel. it is bigger on the P10 than the other two phones.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gotcha. Yeah. I guess. Still, overall, it's the same size screen in an overall smaller shell, but I see your point. Also another reason why i like the black front face models, like the P10 in the next shot after that trio.

    I got this phone a couple days now. Trying to play 2k and 4k video leaves something to be desired. I have access to unlimited 4G+ but streaming a 1440P video on the youtube app is not working. it keeps buffering. even on wifi. I tried a different simcard, uninstalling the app but no dice. Anyone else have this problem?

    I changed from the Lumia 950 to the p10. And I have to say the p10 camera is good, but still not at the Level of the Lumia, which makes me a bit sad. The p10 always has this noisy effect, where the 950 is just super crisp. Color reproduction and lowlight is also better. Man why does no Android manufacturer go with ZEISS..

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should look into Leica. Grain is often a feature, not a bug. Different aesthetic for photography.

    • @MrDrunkenMoose
      @MrDrunkenMoose 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JuanBagnell yeah i have heard that before, but I guess it works better on 1k+$ cameras. There are many pictures where it gives pictures some character, but f. e. Trees from a little distance seem to be super messi. The grain in addition to many leaves does not work well. You also lose much detail of the object behind the tree.
      I would say this camera is superb for closeups (9/10) but not as good for landscapes (7/10)
