  • This Creo Parametric tutorial shows how to use a Simplified Rep in a Bill of Materials (BOM) on a 2D drawing and then how to show balloons in the drawing view.

    Hi Dave,
Thanks for your many awesome videos about Creo tips.
Those are very helpful to me.
But I have a problem about BOM table recently.
If one part has two vendor source.
I want to show main source and 2nd source(subtitute) vendor in one assembly BOM table.
For exmaple a Part like screw has two supplier, vendor_1 and vendor_2
How can I to show vendor_1 and vendor_2 at same BOM table?
I think it maybe through "Family table" or "Simplified Reps" way?
I didn't find any solution about that.
Is it possible to do that in Creo BOM table? or I just to show that by manual table?
Hope you have a good way to solve that.

Love the videos Dave! I am creating a staged assembly drawing using simplified reps. I want to show how many screws are used in each stage (not just the total number of screws up to that point). I feel like there should be a rule for this, but can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There is no rule for this. This type of thing is typically done via work instructions created in Process Plans in MPMLink or the old Pro/PROCESS for Assemblies (an outdated module I actually love).

If I have an initial BOM and view on one sheet being the highest level assembly, on other pages when I annotate a lower level assembly, can i make the lower level BOM index numbers match that in the higher-level assembly? So this way the index numbers and balloons are all the same throughout the drawing?

Is it possible to create a fully assembled view of a machine on Sheet 1 from which a BOM is created (of the master rep) and then have simplified reps views on successive sheets showing progressive or partial build sequences (adding of parts & subassemblies) but still apply the (Master Rep) balloon numbers somehow to the components shown in those simplified rep views?

No. I recommend you watch my videos on Pro Process. But people are more likely to do that in MPMLink rather than a drawing.

Thanks for the video. Very frustrating that it removes all the balloons! Seems like it should leave the balloons and just renumber them! Not so bad in your case but time consuming if the balloons were polished in their location and attachment points!

I have an 18 page drawing of a gearbox assembly. I have tried to make the BOM represent the simplified rep that I created. It works until you select one of the other sheets. At that point, the BOM reverts back to the master rep. I cannot get the BOM to keep the components in the simp rep config while showing drawing views from the master rep. Why is that?

I don’t know. I recommend filing a ticket with PTC Tech Support.
