- Kane (high-content wolf hybrid) and Harvey (husky) finally get to visit Nikki (boxer).
Note: regarding the “sad” howls some weeks ago, apparently, whines will preface howls when he sees someone he misses.
New camera wasn’t here at the time, so it’s Blair Witch Project/Clover Field shake cam.

Gonna have to deal with shaky cam on this one. New camera wasn’t in yet, and holding these guys with one hand was something new for me.

I don't understand this reply chain. The original commenter just said the equivalent of:
"Harvey does a good job of being an elder brother despite being small."
Nowhere in their statement does it express or even imply that the commenter doesn't know that Harvey is older. It's just a comment on Harvey's performance in the role of elder brother while being structurally smaller than his younger brother.

@Michael Smith ah yes the lack of constant crying and shitting themselves and they can't eat by themselves and they will absolutely wreck your body before they come out kids are definitely not something that most people "lack" a dog is just easier to care and way more fun too taking care of a human baby is just pure hell who the hell would want to lower their life quality like that

Seeing Kane run away from the harness was so silly, my office dog hates her harness so when we finally get it on her she acts like we just strapped 1000lbs weight on her and starts walking weighted for a bit 😅

@@erlienfrommars Yeah no, wolfdogs don't take kindly to that kinda physical discipline they see it as a threat and will probably attack not to mention wolfdogs aren't as forgiving as dogs and it takes a long to time to build or rebuild a bond.

Not just muscle. This guy is like 90 pounds. I do not understand how he even has the weight to command the lead on Kane alone. The leash is just a prop, letting Kane pretend to be under redundant control but the only thing keeping Kane in check is his excellent training. If Kane really wanted to, he would have taken us on a ride.

And in actuality, his form is trash for walking a wolfdog, he can do it because they're super well behaved, but do not expect to be able to do that with any wolfdog and husky.

Wolves are very social, intelligent animals, and as long as they know their place in the pack, are properly socialized with other people, pets and livestock you may have, and who their pack leaders are ( the humans) they're fine.
They'll even come to view any smaller pets as their pack mates and family members.
It's if they're not socialized properly, aren't taught their boundaries, or are abused, left alone for long periods of time, aren't fed the proper amount or right type of food, and are allowed to dominate their pack leaders, that you begin to have problems.
My oldest brother had a pure white wolf dog named Max, and he was marvelous, and was my brother's best friend for years.
He was so well socialized, that when he was outside, the chickens we had, would peck in the dirt all around him, and Max never had any inclination to hurt them, but actually protected them more than once from other predators, including a few neighbors dogs or cats that had roamed onto our property.
We all learned how to train and take care of him, and he was about 12 1/2 years old when he passed away from a sudden heart attack.
My Mom had always been a little afraid of him, especially his size, but even she cried when he passed.
My brother kept a beautiful enlarged picture of him on his wall, for the rest of his own life.
It took him several years to get another dog, and that one was a Husky named Joker.
I would ask his owner if he was well trained and not aggressive and if I could pet him if I could I would be pet the doggy.

Kane and Harvey are both such beautiful boys. I would love to have a husky or a wolf hybrid, but watching these and other videos, I'm thinking that's not going to happen. Not anytime soon, at least. My life right now is not a good fit for any pets, much less these kinds of energetic, social, lovable goofballs. One day, I hope, that will change. For now, I'm happy to watch TH-cam videos and dream. Thanks for sharing them with us. 😊

I swear. . .Every dog has best boxer dog friend. It is the wildest thing. Boxers are not my first pick as a dog but they get along so well with other dogs.

Yes, there is an wild Alaskan wolf called Romeo who visited local park and got along with dogs and local there. Untill few years later Romeo got shot by a hunter. Sad story, the local town people have a plaque erected for Romeo at where they used to met him.
It really depends on the wolfdog.
It's a case by case scenario, most wolfdogs are fine with the opposite gender, it's very likely that kane would not get along with other males.

@Michael Smith his dad is 100 percent wolf and zero dog and his mom is 94 wolf 6 dog so kane is about 97 wolf and barely a dog at all so....

Mine do the same thing! They get excited when they see harnesses. They know what we are about to do. My Siberian husky runs from his. I have to wrestle him. Once it's on, we're good!😊

It's nice every now and then to allow them to see and interact with the neighborhood-friendly dogs. I'm glad that Nicky admires them both handsome pups. They did look like they went on an exciting adventure. It was all due to the sparkle in their eyes when they saw Nicky.

He said 3 months which is just slightly less than the time it takes to familiarize with real wolves, i assume that's because of how high content kane is, but other wolfdogs Don't have that issue, in fact, most are a little too friendly.

It depends on their wolf content. Wild wolves are extremely neophobic, only narrowly beaten by coyotes.

My czech is 35/40%
The highest recognized breed is 50% (saarloos).
Therefore, most wolfdogs Don't have that problem.
Have you thought about clipping the leads from the front of the harness, so when they pull it interrupts their direction of travel, and eventually they learn if they don’t pull they’ll go in the direction they want to go in. It’ll look like their harness is falling off but you won’t hurt your back or shoulders

If you are able to try attaching the leash to the front of the harness. It will help with the pulling.

i dont know about wolfdogs, but huskies cant be off the leash ever. they will just go for it. these dogs are known as escape artists too... i have a husky and i have never been able to get her to stop pulling me haha

How are they with smaller dogs when you're out walking? I've had some larger dogs that are totally fine with medium to big dogs but then terrorize smaller ones.
Brown dog looks like a pup compared to the husky and wolf.

Seeing Nikki I realise just how large Kane and Harvey are! Has anyone ever suggested canicross to you? Basically it involves running with a dog or dogs leashed to your waist. The dogs pull you along. Personally, I couldn't do it because if you ever saw me running it's likely I'm being chased by a bear... In jest because there are no wild bears in New Zealand.
Normally I wouldn’t use a vest type harness on dogs who already have a lot of fur and it’s spring/summer. I can only imagine how hot they are beneath the vest type harnesses. Have you considered trying other types of harnesses that would be more comfortable for them?
their fur actually helps them stay cool it keeps the heat out during warm months and heat in during cooler months thats why its so dangerous to shave double coated dogs & wolves since it stops them regulating their body temp i dont think the harness would actually affect the dogs temp much because of their thick coat! just ask any dog groomer/vet about it they will likely say the same thing!

When you once said you need to walk the dogs about 8 miles a day, is that 8 miles forth and 8 miles back or just 4 each ?
8 in total if you’re doing nothing but walking them for exercise.

So is it half wolf or 1/4? All the halves I met in AZ were too shy of humans to be safe around and the ones in VA had to be kept in cages. The only one I met that was super successful at 1/2 was mixed with wait for it COLLIE!
