    I swear this man's voice is like butter haha I love this song! Glad to see you are back and hope your move is going well! The UTFET47 has a weird pinched upper mid sound that I actually strongly dislike. It also sounds very thin compared to the TLM49 unless it's going thru the Weight Tank (I wish I had space for that in my rack, but I can't let go of my Warm EQP-WA). That TLM49 is worth the price difference compared to this mic imo.
    Man I think this is two videos now that I have preferred the TLM49 over the other mic. Might need to put this one on my radar!

      Thank you man for taking the time to watch, comment and contribute a sound perspective!
      I’ve found that I get better results out of the UTFET47 with the Trident 80b EQ. There’s a 50 cycles low cut filter but you can also boost the low end up to +12dB at 60 cycles (or a selectable 120Hz). That combo has helped DRASTICALLY when I use it.
      The weight tank is one of my FAVORITE comps man. For the price, it’s a no brainer to me. And it’s very musical in my opinion.
      The TLM49 is worth the price tag to me in most conditions. It does a good job at capturing and has the mid forward vibe that Neumann is known for. I actually think it’s the cheapest path to the Neumann sound.
      Again, thanks bro for always supporting man!!

    Man your voice is the stuff!! Great shootout, nice to hear different contexts. I've used the TLM 49 for work at other studios before and have been wanting one for my own for about five years now. Super interested in the UT47, and while if I had to go with one, I'd probably use the TLM, they're both excellent and would happily use them both in a full tracking sesh on different things.

      Humbled by the kind words!
      So for me with UT47, I was initially slightly thrown off by the leaner nature of the mic but it takes EQ well. Where it was needed, I beefed up some low end and the mic was solid/more than usable. For the price point, I think it’s a good addition to a locker if that tonality is needed.
      The TLM49 isn’t mentioned enough to me in the category of mid range higher end gear. Cardioid only but it’s got solid top end, the mids are forward and I like how the low end isn’t loose and wobbly.

      @@CarlMooreMusic You are welcome! I own my own M930 for a few months now after knowing it for a while. Besides it's sound characteristics and quality I like it's small form factor. It's tiny compared to the TLM49.

    I was hoping I would like the tlm 49 more, because it suits my wallet more than the Fet47. I can hear the smoothness of the tlm 49, but I think that the Fet 47 makes your voice more "in the room" like closer the the listener and very "real". You got a golden voice, your singing and phrases makes this a very good experience. Ive got a Gefell m930 its very good and easy til place. But im looking for a little more "Character"

    • @CarlMooreMusic
      @CarlMooreMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve heard how thin or lean the Fet47 is but I like using the Trident 80b EQ in whatever chain I’m using with it. I can achieve the body/girth that’s needed. I think it’s a solid mic.
      Much appreciation for the kind words!
      I may have to try that Gefell for sure

      Thanks for checking out the video and commenting. The TLM 49 is a clutch mic in my opinion. Cardioid only, but the tone is worth the price. I like the present top end but it doesn’t hurt my ears sonically.
      The UTFet gets a bad wrap but I enjoy it too. I just understand that I need it on specific sources and I always pair it with some sort of outboard EQ on the front end chain I pair with it.
      Much appreciation for the support!

    @peterpeper4837 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great success to your new place.
    Tlm49 sounds much better to my ears, smoother , warmer with much better balance.
    UTFet47 sounds artificially open with no low end weight, sounds cheap.
    Your voice sounds great as usual !

    • @CarlMooreMusic
      @CarlMooreMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely grateful for your support!!!
      I was surprised at the lean nature of the UTFet47 but I’ve paired it with some outboard EQ or EQ from the Antelope Audio AFX library and I’m able to get a more balanced sound out of it. Proximity effect isn’t boomy though, so I can get right up on it and remain safe.
      The TLM49 is a goto for me. I’ll especially for that Neumann vibe if that’s what I’m looking for.

  • @zayzay92

    I think there's a lot of bias in these comments I feel like It should have been a blind shoot out because I'm sitting here listening on my interface and that ut47 is a monster I wouldn't know they weren't both Neumann off listening alone and for me the tlm49 is different but not better

    • @CarlMooreMusic
      @CarlMooreMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate comments like this because it’s a perspective that’s just as true any other. I use the UTFet ALOT man. I throw the trident 80b EQ in the chain with the bluey or weight tank and it’s SOLID.
      I had considered including a blind listening section in the future.

      @oscarhuang3768 I’m trying to explain to you as the individual who recorded the files, it wasn’t inverted

    • @oscarhuang3768
      @oscarhuang3768 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I heard on TH-cam that UTFET47 is inverted. TLM49 sound is normal. This means that the inversion switch was accidentally turned on during recording or the XLR 2 and 3 connectors were reversed when the UTFET was shipped from the factory. You can import your audio into a DAW and add a phaser plug-in. Listen with headphones and you'll see if I'm right.

    • @CarlMooreMusic
      @CarlMooreMusic  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@oscarhuang3768 none of the phase invert switches were incidentally or accidentally engaged on any of the preamps I used during the recording of this video. Mogami Gold called were used. There was nothing wrong there either.
      I have no need to import the TH-cam audio into my DAW because I recorded all the audio myself. Nothing you mentioned took place.
      Nonetheless, thanks for checking out the video and commenting
