I traded my 2019 Ram 1500 for a 2024 Ranger Raptor. I love that little truck. Its fun to drive, very comfortable and does what I need for hauling and towing.
We in Brazil are a year ahead with the new Ranger. In 2024 the Ranger overtook the Chevrolet S10 (Colorado) in sales and took a bite of the Toyota Hilux sales too. I've got mine with the 3.0 V6 Diesel in may last year. Best truck I've had up to now.
Excellent choice. My reason for wanting the new ranger to be truck of the year is the ability to lay down a 4x8 ft sheet of plywood flat in the bed. On my 2021 ranger it is a real pain to carry full sheets of plywood.
Leave the short-bed tailgate in the up or closed position. Place plywood in bed, resting on the top of wheel wells and top edge of the tailgate. Strap it in and off U go, like millions of short-bed owners have been doing for decades. Works on any compact, midsized or full-sized short-bed pickup truck.
Here’s a clue…don’t buy first model year of anything. Toyota isn’t immune to teething issues. Taco will prove to be the most reliable midsize truck model again. There’s no way in hell I’d buy this Ranger over a taco. Besides the Ranger raptor Bro-truck, the lineup is boring & uninspiring.
@@christopherkozal7987the Tacoma isn’t so bad. But the Tundra still isn’t doing so hot even in its 4th year. Having engine failures even on some 24’s and a couple 25’s isn’t good when the claimed fix is was in mid 23.
What do you find inspiring about the Tacoma and which trim? It’s middle of the road at best in all areas except price. The TRD pro needs the 3.4 tt from the tundra/gx, no battery, no iso seats and $8k less then maybe it would compete with the ranger raptor.
I needed a new vehicle early in 2024 wasn’t too happy with most the full size trucks for different reasons but realized I don’t need a full size anymore. Seriously looked at buying a Colorado but thankfully I found out about the Ranger Raptor in time. Called a local ish dealer they had one with everything I wanted and nothing I didn’t bought it a week later. I was a very early owner back in March. Sooooo glad I found this truck. And now with the tune from ford it’s not even a competition anymore.
Bought the 2.7L ranger stepped up from the 2.3L which is a nice powerplant but loving the 2.7L in this truck runs and shifts along smoother with the 10speed transmission. Alot of companies are having problems with there newly designed mid sized trucks. I heard some back things with the tacoma and Colorado/Canyon as well. Only other mid size I heard doing well is the new frontier.
I like the new Ranger, the backseat is the main reason makes it 100% more usable. The other brands back seat is useless, might was well get an extended cab with a longer bed on those.
I agree with your choice, but my next truck will probably be an F-150 because I want a standard cab. Problem is I will have to order it since you can't find a dealer that has one.
For anyone with a ranger raptor. Long range american makes a custom fuel tank 31 or 32 gallon size compared to the stock size. I think that is perfect. To me the fuel range was a deal breaker. The Tacoma with the 2.4 combined with that electric motor as a assist for me was like wow. And you get that 265 ft pound @ 1700 RPM and how smooth it comes on sold me. Not worried about back seat room because I will be putting a Leer cap on. Also for me I like the look of the TRD OR Hybrid better than all the mid-size. Hope to get 5 years out of it before I trade it in. If it can get me to my Walleye spots, I'll be a happy camper. Cheers to all.
Well at least this year the truck of the year is one that is actually available to the general public which should be a baseline criteria. The Ranger was well over due for an overhaul and I think Ford a good job overall all. While I really only like the Raptor trim, the lower trims still offer good value to price. It’s too bad we are to the point where midsize trucks cost what they do but it is what it is at this point. Hopefully people wages will be able to follow because current financing models cannot support the increasing prices of vehicles in general.
But when it comes time to trade it in, the resale value is shit for Fords. My new Tacoma TRD Pro will hold its value better than any other vehicle on the road. As it does year after year.

There's no coincidence that basically, the new truck of the year is the same size as a full size truck from 10 years ago. Most people don't need an 8000 lb monstrosity like they're making now.
I’m pretty sure that midsize trucks are still smaller aside from perhaps vehicle height or ground clearance versus trucks 25 years old. My old ‘99 F-150 super cab is wider and longer than this Ranger.
@@backwoodstherapy I guess I just dont view that as being close really (looks to be about 13.3-14.8" difference between the '99 extended cab and this newest Ranger not to mention the 10" longer wheelbase. @@scotw67 well of course you can make it seem that way by comparing dissimilar vehicles. Your C/K was probably still wider than your ZR2 though (at least in terms of cab width as I know with modern offroad variants the flares and track widths have grown fairly substantially).
Ram rho is my choice. Especially when u can get 10k off for value. But i dont need that big truck in city. I am 62 and City streets i travel on weekends and parking spaces are tight for smaller vehicles much less lot bigger. Maybe ranger raptor be ok
Until they don’t remove rear seat vents for the North American market (they have them in other parts of the world), I will not consider the Ranger. I find it unacceptable to not have these vents for a 4 door pickup truck. 🤯
I would add to that, split the rear seat 60/40 so you can have a passenger or two while still being able to utilize the floor space. Now, if someone gifted me a Ranger Raptor, I might forgive those rear seat issues.
I agree with you, I really like the ranger a lot think they did a lot with it but it was an oversight and a bad decision to not put rear vents in there. Any of us with kids, especially in hot climates know the value of the rear vents.
Great choice in the Ranger. Really wanted one but I wish they offered a bigger bed option like Toyota. I agree on your assessment on Toyota. I have a new 24 Tundra and I am already tired of all the issues it has, really regret the purchase. Feels like each month I wait for the next thing to fail. If I could do it over again I would go back to the F-150 that never let me down.
Agreed, the price helps too! The bed recall with the brackets would be the only true negative of the truck. The hope for 2026 and beyond is to get the HD Ranger from Australia and Ford just remove lower trims of the F150.
The real reason it won your truck of the year: It can fit a 4x8 sheet or standard pallet in the bed. I will say as the owner of a 2021 Ranger, folks will miss how easy it is to swap bumpers on the previous model.
Hopefully the new ranger has better transmission then the previous models lol as don’t look to hard on the 2019-2023 Rangers for Trans problems , after a few years , be nice to see if the trans in new rangers are still holding up , I have a 2021 Ranger and knock on wood been good so far ,
In the absence of huge manufacturer discounts (pre covid) the ranger pricing makes more sense. When the discounts return for the F150 I think you’ll see ranger sales drop.
Previous generation Ford Ranger had some serious problems in Australia even though it was selling very well. Is the current generation more reliable? An Australian car journalist bought a new Ford Ranger Raptor and he had problems with it from day one...
I like the new Ranger Raptor, it has a fantastic engine and overall inside and out is very nice. The only negative for me is the height of the thing. It looks too low to the ground maybe it’s the running boards on there, if I had one I would probably remove those. If there is a way to lift it maybe 2 inches without effecting the fancy position sensitive Fox Shocks than I would definitely love to have one.
I'd like to see information on cost of ownership. I'm flip-flopping between Ranger Lariat 2.7, Raptor, and if either of those don't fit the bill, GMC Canyon variant. I'm concerned over things like shock maintenance on the raptor. I'm looking at a good bill for having my Fox shocks sent off for rebuild for my '21 Lariat Tremor. I didn't expect that (and I should have).
I think the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison should have won it. Especially in the Mid-Size Segment. I own one. Minus the fact that you won’t be winning a race against the Ford Raptor Ranger, it excels in every other way I believe. I might be a bit bias since I own a Bison, but it’s true.
Agree with your choice on the Ranger. But without a 60 40 back seat and a six foot bed, I would not buy it. That back seat reconfiguration is horrible.
Toyota is so worried about their truck fitting in someone’s garage and their back seats are already great if your only 5’6” and under .. plus the rear seats are 100% unusable if your TRD PRO has front suspension seats??? Toyota went for the gimmick BS as far as the TRD PRO goes anyway.. They needed to focus on practical application and usability with the TRD Tacoma. They are definitely looking at their 2022/2023 sales reports. Because some of the Tacomas are way over priced. If Toyota would have build or brought a Maverick competitor to market this year, like a “back to basics” truck? They would be flushed with cash!!
Ford lost me as a customer in 1986 after corporate backed a lying dealer that destroyed my 84 Ranger! I still give ford plenty of free negative advertising by telling my story 39 years later!
I think your truck of the year choice was a good one. If I was going to get the Range, I would do the Raptor. I think it is a really good bang for your buck even though it isn’t cheap.
I really love the Ranger, but : If Ford brings back a single cab variant of the Ranger with a decent box in the back (6 and 7ft options), decent price, they will insure the number one spot for years to come. Ford, read this, you have an opportunity, please do it, BEFORE competition will.
The right choice for this year. I don’t like the Ranger interior and their option choices so I went with a Colorado Trail Boss…can get it with no parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, just a 4x4 with a base interior and bedliner (wtf Ford) that can fit 33’s from the factory, for less $ than the Ranger. Haven’t had a problem with it in over a year and 30k.
Word is truck market is crashing , so hopefully prices go down , and get to realistic prices , as in last 15 years prices have doubled or close to it , as in 2010 I bought a loaded ram1500 sport for 47000$ Canadian taxes in , today that truck is double that price ,
If anything then prices will go up. Everything that the new administration in the USA is promising will put upward pressure on prices. Tariffs, reshoring the manufacturing will increase prices. Manufacturers need to spend $$$ on R&D for EV transition no matter what and they have to recoup those. Interest rates not going down for a while either. Nothing points to drastically lower prices here.
@ yeah your likely right lol but guy can hope for lower prices lol as me I been only buying cerified pre owned lower km vehicles , since 2010 , event they are over priced but atleast cheaper and still get some warranty to hopefully cover any issues before off warranty , being off warranty wasn’t as scary when vehicles were more basic with way less electronic stuff ,
After some bad experiences in the past with abused vehicles with hidden damage, I don’t trust any used vehicle and would rather eat the depreciation to get a vehicle I know hasn’t suffered permanent damage from the previous owner. I opt for the factory extended warranty, 10 yr/150k miles, honored directly by Ford to cover potential issues with the new vehicle (vehicle abuse from the previous owner has always voided any warrantee).
The Ranger is not my first choice, but it is a sensible and justifiable choice. The Ranger Raptor is untouchable in the mid-size segment for its intended use.
Rangers.....loved them with a 6ft bed and extended cab. Enough capacity for me. These new 4.5ft boxes......i just hate them. Otherwise id be looking hard at one. Even now tho.....in full size trucks the supercab/double cabs are being neutered and cannot be built with much in them. Shit ilive in Alberta......i love heated seats and cant get em in a supercab anymore.

Ram rho is my choice. Especially when u can get 10k off for value. But i dont need that big truck in city. I am 62 and City streets i travel on weekends and parking spaces are tight for smaller vehicles much less lot bigger. Maybe ranger raptor be ok
Great summary. Love your reviews
Very good video. Good reasoning and points. Keep up the good work.
This is an excellent choice.
@ agreed. Thats why I’m probably going to end up with a Colorado ZR2 instead.
I agree with you, I really like the ranger a lot think they did a lot with it but it was an oversight and a bad decision to not put rear vents in there. Any of us with kids, especially in hot climates know the value of the rear vents.
That was the main reason for considering rebel vs ranger raptor.
Agree guys that back seat configuration is cheap
Great choice in the Ranger. Really wanted one but I wish they offered a bigger bed option like Toyota. I agree on your assessment on Toyota. I have a new 24 Tundra and I am already tired of all the issues it has, really regret the purchase. Feels like each month I wait for the next thing to fail. If I could do it over again I would go back to the F-150 that never let me down.
The way he twirls his foot let's me know he's the real deal
Agreed, the price helps too! The bed recall with the brackets would be the only true negative of the truck. The hope for 2026 and beyond is to get the HD Ranger from Australia and Ford just remove lower trims of the F150.
Enjoy the content!!
The real reason it won your truck of the year: It can fit a 4x8 sheet or standard pallet in the bed. I will say as the owner of a 2021 Ranger, folks will miss how easy it is to swap bumpers on the previous model.
Off topic, but the music is on point!
Traded my ranger raptor for a trd pro and couldn't much be much happier
Hopefully the new ranger has better transmission then the previous models lol as don’t look to hard on the 2019-2023 Rangers for Trans problems , after a few years , be nice to see if the trans in new rangers are still holding up , I have a 2021 Ranger and knock on wood been good so far ,
Happy new year, guys!
In the absence of huge manufacturer discounts (pre covid) the ranger pricing makes more sense. When the discounts return for the F150 I think you’ll see ranger sales drop.
Hows the Big Red 24' doing after 1 yr..any updates on the 3500 Howard?
Happy New Year Truck King!!
Can't disagree much with that choice, it's on top on my list for next vehicle!
Pricing for the Ranger Raptor is completely out of line compared to the GM ZR2/AT4X in Canada. Great little truck though.
My choice too.💪👍
I am confused here. Did you name the Ranger TOTY25 or the Raptor Ranger? They're essentially nowhere near the same truck nor customer base.
Great choice! If I didn’t need my f150 for hauling I’d buy a Ranger Raptor!
Should this not be a 2024 Truck of the Year award (versus 2025) ?!?
Well done y’all!
I swear you just did the 2024 TOTY like a month ago
No long bed, no cab options, not for me. Extend cab 7' box is what I need.
Great pick, it would have been my pick also !!!
Is that a Tiffany lamp between the two of you?
Wish the Ranger had a 6 foot bed
I'm seriously considering trading my Honda CR-V Sport for the Ford Ranger XLT or Lariat.
Will, if tacoma had more horse power and also front locker, would you guys still say that ranger is batter?
At least the 3.0 Ecoboost motor in this truck has the water pump on the outside of the motor!!
Didn’t even test the Colorado ZR2 against these two lol.
Agree with your choice on the Ranger. But without a 60 40 back seat and a six foot bed, I would not buy it. That back seat reconfiguration is horrible.
Early and another banger love the videos man
Rich guys everywhere will agree with your choice.
I am so glad Toyota didn’t win.
Truck of the Year should be the Shark !
A ranger !!! No comment
Thank god it’s not the new Tacoma. You would have lost a lot of viewers with that choice.
Ford lost me as a customer in 1986 after corporate backed a lying dealer that destroyed my 84 Ranger! I still give ford plenty of free negative advertising by telling my story 39 years later!
Consistency is key.. I applaud you sir 💪💪
@@EGGINFOOLS thx!
Happy New yeah
Since when is money shifting a reliability issue
Good gawd Ranger TOY?! 😂
Bring back the regular or at the very least the extended cab models for the ranger. Small 5 ft beds are a joke
I’m not a fan of any of the new trucks really. The mid size trucks are also very overpriced.
@ yeah your likely right lol but guy can hope for lower prices lol as me I been only buying cerified pre owned lower km vehicles , since 2010 , event they are over priced but atleast cheaper and still get some warranty to hopefully cover any issues before off warranty , being off warranty wasn’t as scary when vehicles were more basic with way less electronic stuff ,
@Saska… Yes I think going with Certified Pre Owned is the wise choice in this age.
Nissan frontier best truck with no nonsense
The Ranger might be all that until you hit that 150k miles mark. I dont think it is worth the money they ask for.
The Ranger is not my first choice, but it is a sensible and justifiable choice. The Ranger Raptor is untouchable in the mid-size segment for its intended use.
Ford is the best 👌
Rangers.....loved them with a 6ft bed and extended cab.
Enough capacity for me.
These new 4.5ft boxes......i just hate them.
Otherwise id be looking hard at one.
Even now tho.....in full size trucks the supercab/double cabs are being neutered and cannot be built with much in them.
Shit ilive in Alberta......i love heated seats and cant get em in a supercab anymore.
Truck king I bet you are glad this series is over. All the negative comments from people all week because they didn't understand that you had a (?) question mark on your videos. You were asking if the many trucks you showed was the truck of the year. The comments section thought every video that you were declaring each truck as truck of the year. Just remember the audience isn't that intelligent because people comment before they read or listen.
What do I win?? 😁😆
