Ok so maybe the ancients were being wiped out by pirates and they were running away from them, a plague would also make sense, but pirates definitely had an influence on their disappearance

That time idea would actually explain what happens to your ship when you enter it! For instance, the shroud is described to "Rot" wood away. Not break it, but specifically Rot it. Maybe upon entering the Shroud, you are experiencing the time you missed all at once, causing your ship and your body to "catch up" with itself, rotting away to dust as time rolls forward. IDK, just an idea...
Here's an idea: if you drink grog in the shroud, it unlocks a cosmetic tankard that has red grog in it and the description is "Some pirates say it could kill a man in one sip, while others say it tastes like a sugary drink" as a reference to the kool aid sea
Sea of THIEVES. Where do thieves go? PRISON. Maybe people who break the law in the outside world are imprisoned in the sea of thieves by the grand maritime union.
On the subject of meteors, I think one hit crescent isle in the past (or future? I guess?). If you look under the water in the crescent side you'll see a big rock that's in the middle of the "crater".
Oooh warping time, what a fantastic idea Falcore! That seems completely plausible given the evidence you suggest. I like it! Your videos are fantastic, keep it up!
Love this video. Half of the time, I think Rare has a brilliant story planned, and the other half of the time, I assume they are winging it as they go. If the second is true, I hope they are paying attention to your excellent content and retcon/ building their stories accordingly!
Hey Falcore, I really like the idea of the Shroud being a protective or even accidently protective measure. However, I think, as I explained on your stream the other day, that "clearing" the forts and taking the treasure is weakening it.
My theory is that it is a that there is a portal to a different planet. The shroud is sulphuric acid leaking from a different atmosphere. That would explain its properties. The different stars and moon can also be explained by that as well.
I don’t even think the SoT developers even understand their own lore & reasoning behind the world they created. Vaguest game I’ve ever played. It’s not curiously mysterious, it’s just stupidly vague.
@@bobsagetsbastarddaughter4591 that's the beauty of it though. You can come up with some crazy ideas and they may be true. The vaguenes is awesome for such a sandbox game.
that could explain creatures from time of some ancient kraken, meg also the shroud breaker can keep the time from touching your ship preventing it ffrom rotting and rusting
Because this is the primary era the game is set and the mythos for it could of been lost to time in the more modern era's just like certain ones have been lost in our real world. For all we know in the modern era outside of the shroud the portals have been completely destroyed (like the primary one in the center of the map that could of been a way out of the world we are in) and not just lost to time there unlike the era this is set in, whether deliberate by certain factions or not, which is another reason to investigate the Maritime Union when they come into play.
I had some ideas on the Shroud myself. Maybe a tear in space and time where you don't get transferred to a new time, instead a new universe and a new world. One that lives, and controls the areas where people can inhabit. The shroud may be an encompassing cloud from the outside, but once you're in, if you try to sail the seas in this new world, the planet gets angry, and begins to tear your boat apart in the, how you put it, cool-aid death area! LOL well done good video my man
I thought the only way through the shroud was a portal not a shifting passage. The portal entrance is supposedly in the center of the map under teepee like rock structure and when a new player enters the game it gets struck by lightning. Also, if you dive deep enough and use you telescope at this location u can see the legendary sunken ship.
Was this made before the Maiden Voyage starter quest thing was introduced? Suggested the shroud has an area that 'constantly shifts' and thats how we got there--when its shown in Maiden Voyage that the Pirate Lord parted the Shroud to let us pass through.
About UK, Mosquito Island and those comments... i just need to quote "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." Albert Einstein.
Meteor thing actually would make sense, a lovecraftian outerspace entity of sorts crashing into the sea could easily fit in as the cause for the shroud. I mean, The Color Out of Space and such are good examples. A more fitting one imo would actually be the DLC for the game "Darkest Dungeon", The Colors of Madness, which features a similar thing.
Right. Falcore basically said that the Sea of Thieves is a place that exists outside of time itself. Did that remind anyone of the completely underrated movie 'Journey to Dinosaur Island'? Because its basically the same plot.
You know Sea or Thieves reminds me of Skull Island. A huge storm surrounds the area that is near impossible to get through except for a spot where it is weak. Time hasn’t caught up to it but yet they aren’t in the past. Prehistoric creatures evolved and survived in the land. There were Ancients that made shrines and buildings. Compare that to the Sea of Thieves. Practically the same but instead of an island it’s an ocean. The Kraken is supposedly a giant prehistoric fish that survived and mutated in the sea of Thieves. Just like the dinosaurs in Skull Island. Megalodons are the exact same. Survived and mutated. King Kong is comparable to the Kraken Mother in a sense where it’s a giant ancient creature that the Ancients worshipped (kinda). Maybe the devs got some inspiration from King Kong? Let me know your thoughts on this.
Maybe the shroud is a spell that the ancients casted do you keep out humans but then not realizing they had trapped their selfs in with all the beast and they were killed off by those beasts The undead that are at the forts are the people who died and weren’t saved by the merfolk and the ruins under water are what they used to cast the shroud
