The Pirate Lord said sometime during the Shores of Gold tall tale that the Island is cursed. When you complete the tale you are told to leave asap. When you stay, skeletons spawn endlessly. This could prove what Falcore just said in his video here
About those green gems. Each of the three main trading companies have two overarching colors in their design: Red and Purple for the Order of Souls, Blue and Yellow for the Merchant Alliance, and Gold and Green for the Gold Hoarders. The color green appears throughout their design: Almost all gold hoarders wear something green on their person, several have an eyepatch fitted with a Green gems, the outfit giving to you by the goldhoarders is green, the gold hoarders flag is yellow and green, so on and so forth. About the chest, I think it is a symbol of somebody worshipping wealth, symbolised by a golden coin fitted with a green gem.
I'm fairly sure there are multiple krakens still about. The Pirate Lord claims the one in the Maiden Voyage, lurking in the Shroud, to be a different one - a bigger one. (It might also be the mate of the Old Mother.) We see that kraken, as it grabs hold of a skeleton galleon, the ones we know to be cursed to the point of being unsinkable, and that kraken pulls the entire ship underwater easily, something the ones encountered on the Sea don't do. One of its tentacles almost seems to look at our sloop, but it dives with its catch shortly after rather than taking us too. While I think the life cycle of the krakens is quite long, leading to new births being few and far between, I think there's likely still enough for them to continue for a while, or at least for the existing ones to live for a decent time more, as they seem intelligent enough to keep away from threats that would actually kill them, retreating when they pick a fight they can't win. Given their odd relationship with the Shroud and the fact that this larger kraken is only ever seen in the Shroud, even when it parts to allow access to the rest of the oceans, I think the adult krakens live there rather than in open, clean waters, and only the younger ones would be in the places we tend to roam. The Devil's Ridge painting, showing what appears to be the ancients travelling to the Shroud to worship the kraken or krakens worthy of it, reinforces this, while the one on Cannon Cove may be from an ancient expedition into the fog, or from before the fog's release It's worth noting that the ancients could explore the regions covered by Shroud, as they charted the Roar and the central regions while still covered in it or before its creation, meaning the paintings can survive what ships, people and structures cannot.of the lands, and show some alternate magic powering a Shroudbreaker and them encountering a similar kraken while suffering many losses, hence the skeletons. The alternate magic is likely to do with the Sea of the Damned, and be the result of the skeleton curse, though whether the ancients had harnessed that power to part the fog is something we don't have the information to know. Given the Cannon Cove painting, they may have traveled to the Sea of the Damned to evade the fog and came up there, or they may have raised part of it as a protective bubble from the Shroud, though the Sea of the Damned has its own ill effects on those within it that the ancients would've been exposed to in both situations. That encounter with a kraken might be within the Sea of the Damned, given its background - and that Sea can raise dead souls to their body. The Old Mother's body was unchained, and it yet to pass the state the roaming skeletons still live in. There's much danger there, if the krakens were exposed to the Sea of the Damned or one of the ancients' artefacts still holds the power of it.
3:28 actually in cursed sails as soon as the forsaken shores get released from the shroud a bunch of skeleton ships appeared from the sea showing that they were trapped and not to mention the shroud effects boats of the living not the dead (which Is why skeleton ships though were indefinitely torn were fine) wearing the living boats away BUT not actually killing the living leaving them trapped this is also why when the shroud is broken a bunch of things start moving and getting out of the water since they were trapped now Mir still bugs me why the ancients killed the kraken instead of letting it stay trapped inside the shroud
I have only recently gone into the lore of SoT and its fantastic and unbelievable (like the shrouded ghost) just how much detail Rare have gone into to bring this game to "life". Before, I would just hope on the ship and do hoarder quests or OoS and not care too much about the game besides gold but that lore bug has bit me and when I set sale, I have a new respect and love for the world of SoT's.
I think Bosun Bill is responsible for the curse. I've heard several times that the curse is sometimes from greed, and in the shanty Bosun Bill let's out a terrible curse after he takes to much gold which causes him to lose it all and bet stranded on the island.
I think Rathbone isn't first the victim of "curse of greed", maybe symbols of the chest is a warning for telling us what will gonna happen if we acting greedy too much ?
I was thinking about this for a bit. To me, it seems like the Sea of Thieves is sort of "infected", if that makes sense. When you think of all the villains in the game, none of them are native, except for maybe the krakens and Megs but that's different. Briggsy, Greymarrow, and of course, Flameheart, all came from outside the sea of thieves. And there's no proof to suggest they were all as brutal, blood-lustful, and evil as they are now prior to becoming skeletal. There is no sort of devil or overwhelming pure evil, all the villains were changed and transformed into these monsters. I think the skeletal curse is almost like a virus (heh, would be fitting), which draws people into the region, enticing them with riches and glory. But After they are "infected" it uses their bodies as vessels, and their personality and mind just withers away.
I thought skellys exist because their greed causes their spirit to cling to their body, like unfinished business, instead of going to the other side. Only to be called on by skelly captains or skelly lords. Rathbone was cursed by the throne but was still alive. Only after being sunk by Slate and Mercia did he die, clinging to his body out of greed to recover all gold. Eventually walking along the bottom of the ocean back to the shores of gold, as the Goldhoarder Skelly lord.
Hmm...the Cannon Cove painting has one detail that changes it for me a bit. The miasma surrounding the kraken isn't black like the other, it's more of a grey-green. Combine that with the skeletal figures, and I think it's meant to be a depiction of the Sea of the Damned. We know kraken ink allows one to see 'beyond this world,' so what if krakens, who can immerse themselves entirely in this ink, can somehow travel between them? Maybe it's almost an Alduin situation, devouring the living and then venturing deeper to feast on their souls? Good enough reason to want to kill the things. Perhaps the skeleton curse was some attempt to rescue the Ancients' endangered dead that, as always went horribly wrong. Plus, gold is a metal often associated with immortality (non-rusting and all). The chest's gem also looks more like an Ancient Coin to me...same hexagonal shape, close color, implication of great power...
If I’m being honest all I want is a new boss. (For example, Sea Serpent, a new updated kraken = a new stage we’re after you defeat the tentacles the head pops up, some sort of new ships to fight )
y would the gold hoarders want the chest of anchent tributes scene we dont know if they have the key for it because they have the pirate lord keys. or im just a idiot.

Actually, during the stars of a thief tall tale, one of the places you could go for one of the items you need is the skeleton of the old mother. And it actually says that it is the old mother in the book. I don’t remember where it was, but it wasn’t in the devils roar, it was in a humongous underwater cave.
Anyone ever asked themselves who of the Goldhoarder brings all that shit into the vaults? They just idle at their tents. Maybe it's the skeletons all along, supposed to guard the gold. 🤔
Just a thought.... 2 years ago you made that vid on athenas fortune... And how the pirate lord's son was called De marco isnt that the name of the guy in arena just a thought
If the Ancients did create the curse and probably used it, what did they use it for? Cause we know that being a skeleton makes you immortal so possible that back then, the ancients used the curse as a punishment. They do say there are things far worse than death, so perhaps being cursed with immortality and having your flesh slowly strip away (likely painfully) till you become a skeleton is the ultimate punishment. It also makes me wonder if skeletons feel pain like, what if being a skeleton means you're in eternal pain and there is nothing you can do about it, perhaps the pain becomes so unbearable that it drives you insane. Though some skeletons probably got used to the pain and accepted it, or even outright used that pain as weapon, perhaps that's where the Ashen Lords get their power from, by using their pain as a weapon, plus it makes sense as pain itself is usually a burning sensation.
Its not stealing from the hoarders falcore. Were helping them clean their vaults Ps maybe the ancients made the skele curse to watch over the sea of thieves forever, like immortal guardians failed.
No, the Gold Hoarders specifically say "Please retrieve the keys for us, but don't even think about opening our vaults!" hence why you can sell the keys.

How do I start the festival fo the damned bilge rat quest? Or was it limited time
I’m i the only one who thought the “skeletons” falcore was talking about were merfolk
I think they could be ghosts because if it was merfolk they would have a tail not legs.
Sirens have legs when they attack you on islands, so does that mean they have the ability to switch between tails and legs? So it's possible.
Me and a ally sloop just sunk your alliance Falcore, twas a fine fight, well played sir.
Found out I'm adopted while waiting 😂

Great Video Captain!
Yo falcore HOW DO U GET THE JACKET U WEAR WITH THE ATHENA SYMBOL ON IT BRO
I know I'm necroing on an old video, but doesn't the book state that Rathbone was already cursed long before ending up on Tribute Peak?
I'd say selling the Gold Hoarders' treasure back to them is more akin to a ransom.
3:00 is it possible that the ancients feared the kraken? Like the same way the Mayans worshiped their gods?
If I’m being honest all I want is a new boss. (For example, Sea Serpent, a new updated kraken = a new stage we’re after you defeat the tentacles the head pops up, some sort of new ships to fight )
Best intro ever
The lore actually scares me sometimes
Especially at night
2:56 where were men cried
I'm not one hundred percent sure but in one of Rare's posts they said that the stones in the gold horders eyes were veil stones
y would the gold hoarders want the chest of anchent tributes scene we dont know if they have the key for it because they have the pirate lord keys. or im just a idiot.
Ok the best part of this video is 0:07
Briggsy did get cursed by the SoG, and a journal did say she touched cursed gold.
And if you look closely, during the fight with her you can see that she's actually a gold skeleton.
How do we know The Shores of Plenty was covered in the Shroud
Yeah that’s what I was wondering
@@Alfreder28272 nvm I found it. Its in the Tales from the Sea of Thieves Lore Book "This old place has only recenty broke free of the Devils Shroud but now its a beautiful spot attracting the friendly kinds of people we like" -Diving Bel
So, if the gems cause skeleton curse, what about the chalice
wait, wasn't the oldmother slain on an island near marauder's arch????hmmmmm inside a cave hmmmmmmmmmm and it has green jewels hmmmmmm hmmmmmmm HMMMMMMM HMMMMMMMM!!!
Spicypiece the old mothers skeleton is in the devils roar I believe
Actually, during the stars of a thief tall tale, one of the places you could go for one of the items you need is the skeleton of the old mother. And it actually says that it is the old mother in the book. I don’t remember where it was, but it wasn’t in the devils roar, it was in a humongous underwater cave.
Anyone ever asked themselves who of the Goldhoarder brings all that shit into the vaults? They just idle at their tents. Maybe it's the skeletons all along, supposed to guard the gold. 🤔
If the chains that hold the old mother were unbreakable then how did the pirate lord use the chains to create chest to hold cursed gold?
Magic.
Ugtv 123 makes sense
epic intro my guy
Liked the video in the first 10 seconds
The new chest might store……………
The Gold Hoarders remains??
thx for the vid it was awsome
Still waiting for a skeleton curse so I can be a skeleton
Dang bro i just woke up and you uploaded
Duke is in the lagoon of whispers
Thanks Falcore, now I feel bad about killing krakens.
Just a thought.... 2 years ago you made that vid on athenas fortune... And how the pirate lord's son was called De marco isnt that the name of the guy in arena just a thought
We all know that demarco is both Arena guy and son of the pirate lord
Falcons your a genius you help me think I think the ancients are skeletons also I would like an ancient outfit or a skeleton curse
Or maybe the green stuff is the sea of the damned and the mother coming back to life but that's a theory A GAME THEORY
So has Duke gone off the deep end or what?
Damn
The symbols look kinda like ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs
What if they picked up the or pieces of the gold Horder in there so they can bring him back
Is math related to science?
I bet the ancient chests are filled with gold hoarders remains
Dogstep made me press like 😂
duke is on the island with the tattoo lady :)
Its not stealing from the hoarders falcore. Were helping them clean their vaults
Ps maybe the ancients made the skele curse to watch over the sea of thieves forever, like immortal guardians failed.
No, the Gold Hoarders specifically say "Please retrieve the keys for us, but don't even think about opening our vaults!" hence why you can sell the keys.
@@CaptainFalcore this was my only way of thinking this update wasnt lore breaking in the least, peraonally
