Truly!! Supertramp Official (Universal Music Group) keep putting it up & then taking it down??? Just nuts. I try to keep all of the albums complete on my channel, but they make it really tough!! Let's hope this one lasts until Supertramp Official uploads it again. I think it's Hodgson & Evergreen who are taking them down after Supertramp Official upload them. We have
gabilega to thank for this great upload. A big thank you from me!

I was a 16 year old with a car and I felt like I had the world by the tail. In that summer I remember driving that car from the bar - where I hadn't been carded - and with an excellent buzz going on but probably not legally fit to be driving. I was extremely fortunate in countless ways. I dropped my passengers off safely and I got home safe. I remember turning up the volume on songs by this band and singing along. It was if I had already lived all of life and the wisdom had resonated. I had so much to learn. Little did I know at the time.

    • @jacklyn6253
      @jacklyn6253 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Funny but on my 18'th birthday I was carded at that bar. I was puzzled about how they seemed to know. Looking back, I think that they were allowing me in because the bar was popular when my car was in the lot. I played pool there and I had an attitude about it that I had taken on while playing pool at home for all of my teen years after school. My step-father had an attitude going on and I got out of school a couple of hours before he got home from work so by the time he showed up, day after day, I had a lot more practice than he did. So I would win. That is why I think that I wasn't carded at that bar before I actually turned 18. I was bringing business to that bar. Once I turned 18, they knew. So they carded me. It was their way of saying Happy Birthday to me I suppose.

Sometimes on the way home from a party my husband and I would purposely take the long way home. We'd drive along, not talking much, just kinda quiet, touring neighborhoods we liked, slowing down in front of houses we'd lived in, murmuring to each other a memory about each one, sniffling a bit, then finally turning toward home. Memories are pouring down my cheeks as I now miss both those nostalgic late-night after-party detours and my deceased husband as well. Man.

Four decades+ in the railway industry and, to my ears, This Song still sounds at the beginning like a heavy freight train getting under way out of a rail yard. That magnificent harmonica throughout the song sounds like a locomotive air horn whistling through the night. The ending, winding down the pace, sounds like that train's tempo slowing to arrive at its destination (having TAKEN the 'Long Way Home'), and the very last note breathed by the harmonica sounds like the sigh of locomotive air brakes setting up, tight, as it finally stops.

So you think you're a Romeo
You're playing a part in a picture show
Well, take the long way home
    Take the long way home
But you're the joke of the neighborhood
Why should you care if you're feeling good?
You take the long way home
    Take the long way home
But there are times that you feel
    You're part of the scenery
All the greenery is coming down, boy
And then your wife seems to think
    You're part of the furniture
Oh, it's peculiar, she used to be so nice
When lonely days turn to lonely nights
You take a trip to the city lights
And take the long way home
    Take the long way home
You never see what you wanna see
    Forever playing to the gallery
You take the long way home
    Take the long way home
    When you're up on stage
    It's so unbelievable
    Unforgettable, how they adore you
But then your wife seems to think
You're losing your sanity, oh, calamity
Oh, is there no way out?
Does it feel that your life's
    Become a catastrophe?
Oh, it has to be for you to grow, boy
And when you look through the years
And see what you could have been
Oh, what you might have been
    If you'd had more time
So when the day comes to settle down
Well, who's to blame if you're not around?
You took the long way home
    Take the long way home
    Take the long way home
    Take the long way home
    Take the long way home
    Take the long way home
Take the long way, take the long way
    Take the long way home
You took the long way home
Long way home, long way home
You took the long way home
You took the long way home
    Took the long way home
You took the long way home

Grew up in the inner city, around age 11 my parents got separated but several years later decided to get back together, sell everything and move to the country and buy a farm. I was only 15 at time and didn't care for the idea so I ran away. That got old real fast so after about two weeks I hitched a ride back to the farm. I'll never forget this song when it came on the radio of the car I was in going down the highway staring out the window. Got home and dang my parents didn't even know I was gone! Left for the Air Force after graduation, married my high school sweetheart and now I'm 56 and live in the country with the love of my life, go figure. • @jusayenso8186

So many people get slowly addicted to living in the fast lane of "the city lights". Always spending more money on cheap thrills, never gaining perspective about why they wake up the next day, still needing to get their "happiness" from spending money day after week after year. Taking the higher roads through life rarely involve that, so common, instant gratification element that can easily become a habit. Illogical rationalizing of their values and lifestyle then becomes their normal daily habit too.
