There was too much to cover, and this was an impromptu conversation before we had to end it early. We'll discuss this in further detail at a later date. But I think the offers not feeling "good" And the increasingly frustrating paywalled Evolutions makes the game not fun and results in players quitting is the largest issue. 1 shard every 6 months in the shop? are you kidding me? I get that paying can give you early access, but players should be allowed to get at least 3/6 shards per month in the season shop.
The real reason for the decline in revenue is that people don't want to spend money on a game they don't like and the revenue is held on life support by hardcore fans and CCs
Also cause of sunk cost fallacy, I’ve spent so much time and money into this game that I can’t possibly just throw it away by quitting I will somehow think that it’ll be worth it 😭. It’s an intentional manipulation trick by Supercell
As a person who played a lot of CR, the reason i left the game is that it was becoming more frustrating than fun. pay 2 win, diff towers, lvls all added to it
I don’t remember where but the logic was “if we’re making less sales let’s just increase the price so that it compensates for the lack of sales by making bigger profit”
One of the main problem is the game is too old while keeping the same old formula plus updates that are not that exciting and often enough, any game will eventually lose their playerbase if they're not doing something actually BIG, like a whole overhaul of the game system that is NOT gatelocked by a paywall
They need to revert clan wars or redo it at the very least, at the utmost bare bone stuff to do for now. Clan Wars 2 has been a problem for years with the community voicing their frustrations
they literally tried the minecraft method: 1 update per year but at least mc updates are worth the wait most of the time and arent gatelocked behind money
I quit a little after evolutions dropped. (~6 months) I was a f2p, and it took me literal months of daily grinding to unlock even my first evolution, during which time I just couldn’t play normal matches because everyone else had already powerscaled so far ahead with evolutions and level 15 decks that I could only really play the season challenges. I just realized that I wasn’t having fun with the game anymore and never got back on it
To be honest, instead of Star level skins, I wished they did the thing in Clash of clans where the design changed with each level since Star levels are just a unfinished mess like card metals or cards like Royal recruits or royal ghost
12:20 in lower level lobbies everyone is a default skin, the more you ramp up in trophies the more skins people use, and also, you can see peoples brawler trough their mastery lol
The problem with this game’s economy is it’s centered around getting mid-ladder players to buy OP cards in their arena (mostly firecracker, Prince, and mega knight).
i wish clash royale would update the home menu music or battle theme songs. Its so boring hearing the same 2tracks over and over and i KNOW theyre more than capable of making fantasy victorian music for CR
I feel like Shane & OJ starting to talk about the game like that, without fearing Supercells endorsement being pulled from them, is because Supercell is changing their team probably soon and wants the community to feel like they were heard. Although they weren't, they are just succumbing to the power of the community and creators they disrespected multiple times.
I think they need to bring prices down, put less offers in the shop, make it easier to get evolutions (guaranteed a evo a month in the season shop) and easier to get elite cards
Who would've thought shoving more offers into the players faces, while making the game worst will make them not purchase anything, and possibly dropping the game all together. It's almost like a good game, listening and applying feedback, and respecting your player's will generate revenue. Oh how this game fell from grace, had so much fun and made many memories from 2016 in high school. Seeing it now just makes me sad and disappointed for what it has become.
man i really miss the old system of the game where not only the passes were the best value for just 5 or 6 dollars but also f2p people had way so much ways of getting things
I think that they need to start adding skins/costumes/color ways to cards and allow people to customize the cards they like and help them feel personalized and individual to each person. Can’t be that hard to do
I think one of the reason people contribute to people not spending is lack of gameplay change in the progression levels compare to other game. lv11 vs lv11 and lv15 vs lv15 is the same gameplay. The new gameplay we unlocked during progression is just thophy road mainly.(new cards) unlike clash of clans, where higher level troops looks cooler/more powerful, your army and base got bigger, TH10 vs TH10 is not the same as TH12 vs TH12 Brawl stars where you can unlock gadgets, gear and hypercharge as you level up. hayday where.... idk cook new food or smt. while Clash Royale progression is just felt like a steping stone from unfair gameplay to fair gameplay.
@i_saidmeow2469I've just returned in cr after years and that's how I see evolutions. Yes, they are cheap(8$ for me) but farming them f2p it takes frickin 3 month. And then you go into lader and get recked be some evo bulshit(with it being overleveled too) and tilt at frickin p2w
my thought process about lvl 15: the more cards you get to lvl 14 the more ewc's you get and the more you play you get even more ewc. still terribly slow, but the more you play the quicker you will start unlocking ewc
17:06 the brawl stars community managers also listen to the community complaints. I think this is one of the bigger reasons people dislike the clash royale devs recently
If they kept the game at the level of paying for progression as it was right before champions were added and they actually tried with the updates, the game could be making more money due to more people not hating the game and seeing the value as worth it
I completed the chess challenge when it first came out, allowing me to max essentially every card considering how long I’ve been playing the game. I’ve only just recently dipped below 1mil
7:35 YES, if you're so worried about players maxing out their accounts. Then make sure you're adding enough new content to keep up. It's really a case of the players' supply FAR exceeding their demand.
PSA: If you tap on the shop icon twice it'll skip the offers and go straight to the daily deals Level 15 was a big turn off for me as it's super hard to upgrade a single card, even for my 8 year account. It took a year to get a full level 15 deck, and now I'm restricted to this one deck in trophy road. While it's true that you just tap through the chests since you're just getting elite wild cards anyways, this has been the case since you'd just get gold anyways in the past.
I swear, sometimes a game's success and reputation entirely depends on how much the sales department listens to the community managers. And I bet the community managers of CR are angry enough to banish the sales department into oblivion for making all these stupid decisions. Edit: Freaking Genshin impact can be beat with F2P units if you plan out all the builds and your endgame strategies well.
Pay-to-win is not a good business model. I'd say implement payments in games only after the players feel the rewards are worth the price, which many Clash Royale players definitely don't think is the case with the a single Little Prince costing $12.99.
As a 7y cr player, I miss the old classical cr wz no evolution and no other crazy deal, I quit the game when evo zap came out, the game is just getting too p2w
The Suspicious Bush was a good move. add good cards that are fun to play, add cosmetics like emotes and banners, its not rocket science, just don't be greedy
Cant wait for OJ to start playing squadbusters, where they made it Pay2Play in the squad league. (You need like 5k gold for keys and rerolls or else u are in huge disadvantage, so 0.5$ to play 1 game)
I remember when i got a legendary card from wooden chest it made my day, even one epic card was so awesome to get from any chest.... There is no more excitement anymore like it used to be back in the day. 😢😢😢
The offers are bad because they want to make as much money as possible in the short term using anti consumer practices until people realise this and leave. Once people wake up they'll revert all the bad changes and everyone will flock back . It's the best way to maximize money. Literally feeding dopamine to their community like lab rats. I left the game because I started to hate it. I may watch casual content occasionally in the future but I'm never touching a supercell game ever again. I don't trust supercell and I'm too traumatised.
Brawl is a good game lol, but supercell gets really greedy if theyre able to, when the early access brawlers came into the game they over buffed them until people started to absolutely rant a lot on social media
basically, their excess of awful pay2win strats its starting to backfire because everyone already spent money years back and now they find it pointless
I think it's such a statement that brawl stars is the most f2p friendly game and yet is making the most money. Supercell should use brawl stars as a prime example of being f2p and monetization.
Don't worry he makes it back cause that's his job don't think he's a regular player who doesn't need to collect those stuff or wasting money in collecting those stuff
