The two games always go back and forth with one being worse than the other for a while until it flips around. What adds to it is how much similarities these games have, often introducing same mechanics, themes or features but ig that's just a nature of online service games made by the same company. Overall Brawl is better though, always was except for those few times.

They changed the tip on the loading screen from “A common card can outperform a legendary if PLACED right” to “A common card can outperform a legendary if it is a HIGHER LEVEL”

Ubisoft is clear winner, players don't even own the games, it would be like if in clash royale you had to renew evolutions. EA games are truly pay to win, in the literal sense. Plants vs zombies 2 you can only unlock new plants if you pay, there is no possible way to unlock them for free, PvZ 3 is the most lame sequel to any game possible, just like PvZ 1 with afwul graphics and even less unlocable plants no new contents compared to other two parts. Nobody really cares about PvZ, but is game on the point of no return, totally ruined game of no return. Both EA and Supercell release ¥hitty games intented as cash grabs, at least Supercell tried to put some effort in their games, I actually liked Clash mini.
You know the story of the foreign streamer reminds me so much of the horror story from Overwatch. If you don't know, a few months ago the new hero/character would be locked behind the battlepass, and free2plays will have to play for a week or a few weeks to unlock it. A streamer (I think it's Frogger) played a game and his teammate didn't have the new character and they were getting stomped. So, said teammate left the game, bought the pass, got the character, and then rejoined. Honestly kinda sounds similar to the state of supercell games as a whole recently.
For real, I’m a f2p player that is trying to push ladder while still being level 14. Going against double evolutions and losing because of 1 level gap interactions every single game is getting very very frustrating. And now I’ve just been mindlessly playing for the last few months collecting wild cards just to finally get to level 54 and be done with this. Level 15 killed this game. Update: I finally dropped this game, I’m free.
The worst part is how unbelievable hard it is to get to level 15, you literally need like 2.5 times more experienced to go from level 14 to 15 than to go from level 1 to 14, I bet they did this on purpose so people would get mad at not having double evolution for so long and having to buy offers to get to level 15

I used to be a semi-competitive player and now I don't even try to push for top 10k Global every season now. I'm a pure F2P that's managing time, and my 8 year old account still struggles to gain Elite Wild Cards (and ofc Evolutions). Now I just play as a filthy Casual and just grind Season Tokens, Lucky Drops, and the weekly events due to how I can't just play Ladder with Level 14 cards and missing (meta) evos. The giveaways are a sign that they're trying to appease the community, but it's still not enough even as an endgame player. One example of this is the Goblin Queen's Takeover with its own trophy ladder. A newbie (or newbie account) would struggle to unlock everything in the ladder with their Level 10 cards, while the trophy ladder doesn't cap at a lower level as you progress. The microtransactions should also be redirected towards the populace that loves cosmetics instead of gatekeeping every significant addition to CR's gameplay. Every route of action the CR devs make is always a Lose-Lose with its loyal playerbase dwindling one by one. Within me there's this single entity that still gaslights me into continuously investing my time on Clash Royale, and maybe, just maybe it will all be good again.
I honestly think that Tower Troops have basically ruined completely mot of the interactions in the game with most cards. If your opponent has a dagger duchess, Your goblin barrel is garbage and completely useless. If your oponent has a Skarmy and swarm cards while you have a canoneer, You're dead. There's nothing you can do. Cards simply were NOT designed to fight against other "tower troops", Al these cards were designed to be played with the princess as the tower troops. Edit: I also forgot to mention interactions designed at purpuse, such as the princess tower getting conected by two alone wallbreakers or goblins dying on two hits. Of course, this doesn't happen with the Dagger Duchess or Canoneer
Man thats what I noticed that just at its core a lot of cards struggle to compete with Tower Troops like dagger duchess. Cards have always been meant to be balanced around the princess towers in mind and now you can basically just neutralize certain cards and playstyles just because of a tower troop. And now with the possibility of a new king tower we might as well start adding another elixir bar. Theyre trying to add new things but breaking the core principles that kept the game more or less balanced or in check. Now its just a cash grab
I completely agree with you. I am fast-cycle free to play spellbaiter (i play with spirits) and i literally cant do anything with my deck cause of new tower troops. And also miner players (i also love playing it) are struggling nowadays. Its sad looking that the entire playstyles became dead

Had spent $500 or so across 5+ years of playing on this game. Dropped hundreds if not thousands of hours into it. Deleted it the second evolutions dropped. I still watch youtube content because the game will always hold a special place in my heart. I’ve always said CR was very similar to chess to me - luck is nearly irrelevant, and winning is nearly always skill based. But drastically changing the entire meta of the game every month with new hundred dollar evolutions made skill much less relevant. It’s heartbreaking. Luck has always been so relevant, at least since they removed overtimes. Before that some decks you could always win/draw, after that it was glorified rock paper scissors where as long as you didnt mess up placements it was more or less a predetermined outcome based on matchup alone
I deleted ALL Supercell games a long time ago when they upped the price in Clash Royale on the season pass from $5 to about $12 if my memory serves me right. With that up in price, you got LESS for your money than when you were paying more than DOUBLE what you originally paid. They lost a customer for life, and I’m incredibly disappointed in them. I have a friend group of 3 that loved nothing more than to get together to play Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, and Clash of Clans together. Supercell’s greed is more atrocious than EA and that’s an impressive feat to achieve. Thanks for making this video and using your voice for good!

I want to point out that when some bugs happend that was a huge benefit for the f2p players, like you could reroll Lucky Drops or even the chest drops bug that gave you a insane amount of cards, they immediatly fixed, like day 1, on the other hand bugs that legit hurt all player base they took months or never even fixed.
2 things to say on that: I think some of the OG game-devs were soo mad at the decisions of CR head-officials that they quit, leaving new, inexperienced devs to take on these roles, because there have been TONS of bugs per every “update”. Also, imo the one bug with the boxes, basically a means of rooting out players who actively try avoiding spending money, which mostly consists of f2p players. Many who were banned for a month lost their CR addiction. A 3rd i wanna add: the new ads they’ve been pumping out on yt shorts since evos, they are chasing away their current players and trying to revamp the player base with fresh players that wanna spend money. Since the update for losers, i’ve been seeing flaws in the core of what this game has become
As a f2p player, i thank God I just ragequited before all of this bullcr4p, right before evolutions, tower troops all of it, now i can see that clash royale has just become a horribly disguised greedy cashgrab that is dying at an incredibly fast rate.

Kids in highschool??...that hitted me hard dude, I remember playing in 2016 and waiting for updates and talking to my friends about it all the time, the 2 players mode and draft and stuff...literally an hour ago I played my second game in the day for the season tokens and kept losing to Mega knight and evo firecracker and E golem and was like No this is it...not touching this game anymore, I feel so sad seeing how the game changed, I stopped in 2018 and came back this year and my god it is not fun anymore...no strategy whatsoever just spam and broken cards.

Calling supercell generous for gifting an evolution shard is the same as calling someone generous after they've starved someone and given them a crumb. They made the issue that called for a solution so they could seem like they cared.
It's also stupid because it's just a temporary event. If you missed that event or didn't know about the game at that time, you'll have to pray that there's another. An easy way to get evolutions should be added permanently, or they should make events like these every month (which will probably not happen).
In brawl stars evey update they give you 1 free hypercharge from the 6 new ones and it's not just a one time thing, also getting a hypercharge is 10x easier than getting an evo, they give so much away

Part of the reason for this is Tencent. It’s a Chinese company which owns most of all games and forces them to make in game shop offers and currencies such as v-bucks. They are trying to money grab because of tencent
The main issue for me is that these evolutions are forcing us to play specific cards because they're op. Just completely ruins the creativity in the game, and tower troops force a specific meta where you can't even attempt to play certain decks.

Clan war 2 update is the update that caused the most players to simultaneously quit, but the pass update, among a few others, are all very close to just as bad. It's actually amazing the game still has a big playerbase. It shows how good the core gameplay was that they can mess it up this badly and still have people playing it.

They do this to cater to bad players, giving them easier match ups so they can win. When he said “the game is dead, I mean there is no hype anymore” I suddenly remembered my high school days when I used to play CLASH ROYALE like crazy and could not get full of playing it, every card every update back then was like a new era of hype, my brother and I used to play it and sometime we used to grind all night long but ever since the evolution and level 15 has been released we don’t play it anymore because we were both free to play players and when we saw that evolutions and level 15 were over powering our decks that we have been playing for months we just couldn’t help but to get bored as the time passed and eventually had to delete the game because of how pay to win it had become, I just wanna say that I am still that old clash royale player but the game is not the same as it used to be, so for me it’s dead.
I'm an og player who quit when level 15 was announced the same week that I finally got my main deck maxed at 14. Logged in last week to see Dagger Duchess and evolutions and uninstalled again. I miss when playing the game was enough to earn a maxed deck, and there weren't gimmicks like tower troops and evolutions to make sure that normal people can't compete.

Gameplay isn't even fun anymore. Even with an overpowered deck, it will always be: select a card, place a card. No customization, no progression that feels worthwhile, just placing cards.

Wanna play a building? Play evo tesla. What? You wanna play something else like cannon? Bomb tower? Tombstone? Inferno tower? No play evo tesla, the other options are all garbage. Deck variety is all but destroyed.

I'm not trying to bullshit anyone, I have about 20-25 max cards, and I didn't spend a dime to max those. I upgraded my main deck to lvl 15 in about 3 months, and from there, I've been grinding for elite wild cards on path of legends, buying the 5k elite wild card packs that cost 100k gold, and playing the tournaments and challenges. I have spent money on the game before, but after evos came out, I just stopped paying for anything.

I noticed something else about these updates - they give passive value to the player. You don't need to trade off anything to use a tower troop or evolution, it's strictly a buff. With new cards, they may be strong, but they cost a deck slot and elixir to use. Even with champions, they cost a deck slot and elixir to use the ability. The main issue I saw people complaining about was the 3 card cycle with them from a fundamental design perspective (not a balance perspective) It's unengaging for both players if you introduce passive value into games and take away agency. You can't outplay a tower troop like you can pressure your opponent enough so they can't use their champion ability or play their wincon. So it's not even the monetary aspects, it's also just the design of the features put in
When I watch the brawl talks, I can really tell how much love and care Supercell gives to Brawl Stars. You never see this same energy with Clash Royale, which is a shame because in my opinion, Clash Royale in its prime was a much better game than brawl stars will ever be. You always see Clash of Clans and Brawl Stars get much more attention from the devs and the media, which frustrates me considering that Royale took the world by storm to a far greater scale than either of those games ever managed to do when it released back in 2016. Despite this, the game feels so forgotten, with many players quitting while the game drowns in monthly content updates that the devs are likely forced to add just to make Supercell money. Yesterday, I made it to 1800 ultimate champion medals, and ended up in the top 10k players. This is an abnormally low number for the top 10k line to be at with only one week left in the season, so I'm assuming lots of dedicated players have given up on the game. And about lucky drops, honestly I preferred getting free banner tokens because at least I had fun customizing my profile instead of getting useless common drops everyday.
Clash Royale was genuinely so frustrating to play with its matchmaking it was affecting me irl so I had to stop around 2020. Looks like I won’t be going back either
I'm so glad I uninstalled Clash roughly two years ago. I still watch your vids because I do genuinely enjoy your style, but the game has been getting worse and worse. I had been a free to play player since the day I started. I think I had my account for four or five years before I couldn't take the paywall anymore. The story you told about the streamer being stuck to a deck was true even before evolutions. It took such a long time to get cards for a different deck that I couldn't feasibly use a royal hog deck even if I wanted to. You had to get shop deals if you wanted to compete, and that is still true to a worse degree. It really is a sad tale of greed, I wish the game could go back to the better days as well.
I used to defend the game but at this point I. play only to not get kicked from my clan, all my friends have alredy quited and the game feels so boring... OP cards, boring events (capture the...) and on top of that all I'm F2P. This is just sad.

Meanwhile Brawl Stars just gave out 5 legendary drops for free, giving players upwards of $100 worth of progression with the best luck. (I personally got about $50 worth which is about average from what I’ve seen) Such a shame Clash Royale went from such a nostalgic and fun game that I used to play all the time with my middle school friends back in 2016 to this. It used to be annoying but fair when I lost, but now I feel nothing. Such a shame
FOR REAL. I am usually extremely unlucky but I opened 3 hypercharges and two star powers. Can you imagine if clash Royale just gave everyone a a few full decks to max for free, plus a few evolutions for free, and a tower troop for free? That would never, ever happen. This game is so dead.
I took the time to calculate the price among all the offers and it's crazy, including pass Royale and all the offers the total is 902$, almost a thousand dollars. That's crazy taking in consideration that a year ago when they were about to start the evolution cards, the store was barely empty, you could only buy pass Royale, gems and some random emote or offer from 1-5$. Working with those numbers we can realize that u used to spent around 15 or 20 bucks (between diamond pass Royale and some offer) and now 902 means a 5913.33% increase in prices. But yes, when they gift you an old Evo you totally forget about the P2W thing.
The worst part is the fact that the game gives you more offers the more you spend as well, so assuming you aren’t whaling that’s the base. I can’t even imagine what the total cost it gives to someone spending hundreds a month on the game.
As a experienced player I literally played the game for 5 years, and left the game for some seasons for a break, just to come back to see my progress got taken away, I really tried to come back to the game, but then they added evolutions, and I could keep up with the progress, now they added the tower cards making me feel even further behind progress, now I don't feel it's worth trying to keep up, they lost me
I'm so happy you're still talking about this, everyone spoke about it a year ago and after that it was like "yeah it is what it is" and they can get away with that because no one is speaking up. Like 3 months ago I literally lost it, I'm a casual so I don't grind and stuff but because I played so much before 2020 I have gained skill that was enough to achieve things I wanted so I never really struggled. So that time I had like 3 level 15 cards and I tried to hit ultimate champion (without evos) and it wasn't painful to reach royal champion, but after that it was a literal torture. Every player I faced had double evos, fully maxed decks and I just couldn't do it, I was 2 wins away and once I was like 7 wins away I gave up. It's possible to do it, my deck just isn't meta + I don't know every single interaction like others, but the feeling of knowing that the opponent is way worse compared to you, but since they spam cards to get to the evolutions and you just can't do anything is really not that great.
A big reason for why it feels like no one speaks about it anymore is because most people who are sufficiently upset by it to still be speaking about it to this day, are the same people who quit playing and are no longer part of the community because of it.

I see the pain in your face expressions :(( you genuinely made me tear I understand how it hurts to be so passionate about something so unique and exciting then realizing it's no more because of corporate greed, and being deceived about it I really hope it gets better soon too I did quit when the recent goblin mode released because it's too wack for me, and I don't really feel like grinding through something I don't enjoy to make progression, and I don't like how much I'll miss out on if I don't play the mode I never payed a single dime on the game, I would've happily payed to support the game a couple years ago but I didn't have the means to make purchases, and I'm glad because I would've regret that money, now I don't think the game is not worth any of my money the game doesn't offer microtransactions, they are entire freaking transactions the value is so little for such amounts of money - even less so with the strong lack of balance in the game in mid ladder I've struggled to attain even 50% win rate without getting lucky with matchmaking or without spending a few months grinding out progression I can buy like 15 good indie titles on discount with a hundred dollars and have thousands of hours of high quality super fun content and enjoy the company of amazing communities and possibly thousands more hours of modded content and playing challenges/speedruns and possibly even thousands more hours of youtube/twitch content, and retain the right to most of these for myself hell, that's one year of Netflix, Crunchyroll, Curiosity Stream or any other, giving you access to thousands of top notch productions and I can keep listing how much a hundred dollars can do for you in terms of entertainment but the point is made friend battles are still a lot of fun especially with draft, that's all I'm gonna play from now on
As someone who spent money on that game, I full heartedly regret it. I apologized my dad for my unbreakable hyper fixation to the game and for lending me money so that I can be happy, assuring him that once I become a lawyer I’ll be the one paying him all the time.
The worst part is, that all the new features are not terrible in a vacuum, just horendously balanced. Champions enable you to have a three card cycle, which is ok as long as they are not to cheap and you have to deal with the fact that you maybe have only one anti air card to defend, when your Queen is on the other side of the map. Evolutions in theory spice the game up and give underused cards a second chance. Problems arise, if you give an extremly cheap card a game winning ability and 1 card cycle or just ignore cards that really do need an evolution (Mega Minion). Plus the ungodly grind for shards and mostly evos that play well with cyclr and not many other archetypes. Towertroops are a lot more complicated. I think the cannoneer is reasonable enough, it is great against tanks, bad against swarms and you really need to support him. It also did not delete a lot of decks from the meta, as beatdown still had a chance against it and it had about as many downsides as upsides. Dagger Duches just was a mistake. She clears swarms, prevents chip damage, removes mini tanks from the game and has enough burst damage, that even against beatdown you had very little problems. The fact that you had to spent ~2 elixir just as fodder for the tower to even aproach it in single just shows that they didn't really want to balance it/were not allowed to just to sell those sweet offers. And while Cannoneer certainly anihilated some interactions it had enough effecient counterplay. The goblin mode is the least fun I ever had in CR. You need to win about 70 matches to unlock all the new cards, while playing against basicalls the same deck the whole time. To add insult to injury, you might not have most goblin cards upgraded, as most don't inherently synergise with each other and it just leeds to spamming goblins, spamming couters to goblins or ignoring the event alltogether and just play Lavahound because most decks just have Dartgoblin as AA. This could all have been prevented, if they went full Builder Base and completly disconected the Goblin Road with normal Ladder. You unlock and upgrade cards, just for the goblin ladder and have a seperat chest cycle. This would allow them to tailor the goblin ladder better and allow new p(l)ayers a chance at the game. All this could be furtehr improved by restricting the card pool, like cutting most tanky units if you really want a logbait fest and it wouldn't hurt players who main lava loon, as it is completly seperat. And to keep the players playing this mode, decrease chest timers and upgrade costs by alot and give them something for the main ladder (e.g. every goblin silver chest contains stuff for the goblin mode worth a silver chest + some gold and cards for the main ladder). And they could even give reward at the end of the season depending on your trophies and card level.
Whats even more insane is that the exact same company made brawl stars, a game thats increadibly free to play friendly that makes 5x the money cr is making. Really shows how only caring about money doesnt make you money

It really is sad where they took this wonderful game. I quit playing sometime after buying the OP Gold Passes to get a Skeleton King to Level 14. So about 2-3 years ago. Ever since, I’ve followed along on media to see where the game has gone. Honestly, a lot of the updates they did had lots of potential. In fact, most of what they added would have been perfectly fine… if not for the monetization. Monetization has singlehandedly murdered the potential of every single update they’ve released thus far. Like you said, only the people who spend abhorrent amounts of money actually get to play the updates. If you’re not a spender, the update did not apply to you. In fact, the update only f-d you further, because the spenders would get the stuff that would make them win & make people who DON’T spend money (aka you) lose. In other words, the game became P2W to an unprecedented extent. SuperCell knows this. They’ve always known this. It’s been this way since the beginning of the game’s existence. Only now is it so extreme that the difference between you having getting ONE evolution or NOT having an evolution is a 6 month grind or $100. All they have to do to fix this - ALL of this - is to separate money from competitiveness. It still isn’t too late for that. Cap card levels at Level 11 on Path of Legends (and maybe eventually move it up to Level 14 once it makes sense to). Ban Evolutions on Path of Legends. Level-Boost new cards/tower troops for 3 months so that everyone that has unlocked them can at least enjoy the update for a time and not get immediately boned for 3 months and be forced to wait for balance changes to make the game playable again. Path of Legends should be the one place where competitive people can play competitively, for free. That’s what it was meant for. It was always meant to be THE competitive experience. It should be FAIR, it should NOT be P2W, and it should be a testament to your SKILLS as a Clash Royale player, not your WALLET. You wanna have P2W Level 15 evolutions on Ladder matches, Event matches, & Clan Wars? Fine by me. Those modes probably need it in order to be relevant anyway. Wanna lock fun features behind higher king/card levels? Go ahead. Gives me something to eventually grind towards/pay for. But Do. Not. Force. Us. To. Spend. Money. To. Compete. Ever. If we give you money, it should be because we support you, and NOT because we are required to. If you add fun things that destroy the meta, keep it out of the competitive scene. Or if you’re gonna put it in anyway, give everyone the equal opportunity to abuse it. TL;DR: Respect the playerbase, and we will respect you enough to give you our money. Sound fair?
Wow, looks like a template! Too many games are already lost to this scheme: Good game/potential-->Fun for players-->Start of monetisation-->Predatory monetisation-->Players leave-->P2W`s and some randoms left (or just persistant someone). Deleted the app and then returned to the game. Realized it just made me mad, so I permanently deleted my account. That was about a year ago. I played since beta launch and have spent at least $150 on the game. I know that is pennies compared to some people that spend thousands, but I'm the average player that is willing to spend occasionally, and the deals + season pass used to be genuinely somewhat worth it way back when it released. The game was demolished after they got rid of the original clan wars + clan chest. The last thing they added to the game that was I remember actually being fun was fricking 2v2 and that was in like 2018 or something LMAO

I can't tell you all how many times i've messaged the "support team" urging them to better utilize card masteries (since many cards still have a "coming soon" under the 3rd level...) It's very silly how often #SUPERCELL has introduced new elements (I.E. Champions) to only forget about them, or make one LITTLE PRINCE completely broken! One "plus" with Queens Journey has been seeing an influx of people trying to utilize Monk, but he & Skeleton King are the most underutilized Champions and SuperCell could care less about these features they introduce to completely forget about once they've milked that cash cow! You left out the part where they nerfed the OP dagger duchess basically to oblivion. Went from being a huge advantage just by having it to worse than regular towers except against some bait. They basically got a bunch of people to fork over money or spend precious resources trying to get it and then made it incredibly niche to use. That didn't exactly help. Especially since there are no refunds on money or spent resources.

Ubisoft is clear winner, players don't even own the games, it would be like if in clash royale you had to renew evolutions. EA games are truly pay to win, in the literal sense. Plants vs zombies 2 you can only unlock new plants if you pay, there is no possible way to unlock them for free, PvZ 3 is the most lame sequel to any game possible, just like PvZ 1 with afwul graphics and even less unlocable plants no new contents compared to other two parts. Nobody really cares about PvZ, but is game on the point of no return, totally ruined game of no return. Both EA and Supercell release ¥hitty games intented as cash grabs, at least Supercell tried to put some effort in their games, I actually liked Clash mini.

You know the story of the foreign streamer reminds me so much of the horror story from Overwatch. If you don't know, a few months ago the new hero/character would be locked behind the battlepass, and free2plays will have to play for a week or a few weeks to unlock it. A streamer (I think it's Frogger) played a game and his teammate didn't have the new character and they were getting stomped. So, said teammate left the game, bought the pass, got the character, and then rejoined. Honestly kinda sounds similar to the state of supercell games as a whole recently.

For real, I’m a f2p player that is trying to push ladder while still being level 14. Going against double evolutions and losing because of 1 level gap interactions every single game is getting very very frustrating. And now I’ve just been mindlessly playing for the last few months collecting wild cards just to finally get to level 54 and be done with this. Level 15 killed this game.

I used to be a semi-competitive player and now I don't even try to push for top 10k Global every season now. I'm a pure F2P that's managing time, and my 8 year old account still struggles to gain Elite Wild Cards (and ofc Evolutions). Now I just play as a filthy Casual and just grind Season Tokens, Lucky Drops, and the weekly events due to how I can't just play Ladder with Level 14 cards and missing (meta) evos.
The giveaways are a sign that they're trying to appease the community, but it's still not enough even as an endgame player. One example of this is the Goblin Queen's Takeover with its own trophy ladder. A newbie (or newbie account) would struggle to unlock everything in the ladder with their Level 10 cards, while the trophy ladder doesn't cap at a lower level as you progress.
The microtransactions should also be redirected towards the populace that loves cosmetics instead of gatekeeping every significant addition to CR's gameplay. Every route of action the CR devs make is always a Lose-Lose with its loyal playerbase dwindling one by one. Within me there's this single entity that still gaslights me into continuously investing my time on Clash Royale, and maybe, just maybe it will all be good again.
I honestly think that Tower Troops have basically ruined completely mot of the interactions in the game with most cards. If your opponent has a dagger duchess, Your goblin barrel is garbage and completely useless. If your oponent has a Skarmy and swarm cards while you have a canoneer, You're dead. There's nothing you can do.
Cards simply were NOT designed to fight against other "tower troops", Al these cards were designed to be played with the princess as the tower troops.
Edit: I also forgot to mention interactions designed at purpuse, such as the princess tower getting conected by two alone wallbreakers or goblins dying on two hits. Of course, this doesn't happen with the Dagger Duchess or Canoneer
Man thats what I noticed that just at its core a lot of cards struggle to compete with Tower Troops like dagger duchess. Cards have always been meant to be balanced around the princess towers in mind and now you can basically just neutralize certain cards and playstyles just because of a tower troop. And now with the possibility of a new king tower we might as well start adding another elixir bar. Theyre trying to add new things but breaking the core principles that kept the game more or less balanced or in check. Now its just a cash grab

Had spent $500 or so across 5+ years of playing on this game. Dropped hundreds if not thousands of hours into it. Deleted it the second evolutions dropped. I still watch youtube content because the game will always hold a special place in my heart. I’ve always said CR was very similar to chess to me - luck is nearly irrelevant, and winning is nearly always skill based. But drastically changing the entire meta of the game every month with new hundred dollar evolutions made skill much less relevant. It’s heartbreaking. Luck has always been so relevant, at least since they removed overtimes. Before that some decks you could always win/draw, after that it was glorified rock paper scissors where as long as you didnt mess up placements it was more or less a predetermined outcome based on matchup alone

I deleted ALL Supercell games a long time ago when they upped the price in Clash Royale on the season pass from $5 to about $12 if my memory serves me right. With that up in price, you got LESS for your money than when you were paying more than DOUBLE what you originally paid. They lost a customer for life, and I’m incredibly disappointed in them. I have a friend group of 3 that loved nothing more than to get together to play Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, and Clash of Clans together. Supercell’s greed is more atrocious than EA and that’s an impressive feat to achieve. Thanks for making this video and using your voice for good!

I want to point out that when some bugs happend that was a huge benefit for the f2p players, like you could reroll Lucky Drops or even the chest drops bug that gave you a insane amount of cards, they immediatly fixed, like day 1, on the other hand bugs that legit hurt all player base they took months or never even fixed.

2 things to say on that:
I think some of the OG game-devs were soo mad at the decisions of CR head-officials that they quit, leaving new, inexperienced devs to take on these roles, because there have been TONS of bugs per every “update”.
Also, imo the one bug with the boxes, basically a means of rooting out players who actively try avoiding spending money, which mostly consists of f2p players. Many who were banned for a month lost their CR addiction.
A 3rd i wanna add: the new ads they’ve been pumping out on yt shorts since evos, they are chasing away their current players and trying to revamp the player base with fresh players that wanna spend money. Since the update for losers, i’ve been seeing flaws in the core of what this game has become

Kids in highschool??...that hitted me hard dude, I remember playing in 2016 and waiting for updates and talking to my friends about it all the time, the 2 players mode and draft and stuff...literally an hour ago I played my second game in the day for the season tokens and kept losing to Mega knight and evo firecracker and E golem and was like No this is it...not touching this game anymore, I feel so sad seeing how the game changed, I stopped in 2018 and came back this year and my god it is not fun anymore...no strategy whatsoever just spam and broken cards.

Calling supercell generous for gifting an evolution shard is the same as calling someone generous after they've starved someone and given them a crumb.
They made the issue that called for a solution so they could seem like they cared.
Like in brawl stars you can get enough gold to get 1 hyper charge from the free pass n in cr we just chest which gives noting
It's also stupid because it's just a temporary event. If you missed that event or didn't know about the game at that time, you'll have to pray that there's another. An easy way to get evolutions should be added permanently, or they should make events like these every month (which will probably not happen).
This is how most mobile games condition their players to accept horrible deals. Make something way worse to make something bad looks good.

In brawl stars evey update they give you 1 free hypercharge from the 6 new ones and it's not just a one time thing, also getting a hypercharge is 10x easier than getting an evo, they give so much away

I agree so much. When I finally got level 14, they released level 15. I was so mad. All my days of grinding were for nothing.

Part of the reason for this is Tencent. It’s a Chinese company which owns most of all games and forces them to make in game shop offers and currencies such as v-bucks. They are trying to money grab because of tencent

The main issue for me is that these evolutions are forcing us to play specific cards because they're op. Just completely ruins the creativity in the game, and tower troops force a specific meta where you can't even attempt to play certain decks.
The pass in my opinion is the worst update ever... Normal pass is not fun anymore, you only get a reward once every 3-5 tiers
When I came back to the game about 1 months ago I was really pissed off that they literally nurfed that pass. After that I never spent any money on the game

But the thing is that they shouldn't have touched the free or gold tier rewards...

Clan war 2 update is the update that caused the most players to simultaneously quit, but the pass update, among a few others, are all very close to just as bad.
It's actually amazing the game still has a big playerbase. It shows how good the core gameplay was that they can mess it up this badly and still have people playing it.

They do this to cater to bad players, giving them easier match ups so they can win. They're afraid that players will quit if they always lose, so they cater to bad players, and basically punish good players. It's BS. Cw1 actually had fair MM

When he said “the game is dead, I mean there is no hype anymore” I suddenly remembered my high school days when I used to play CLASH ROYALE like crazy and could not get full of playing it, every card every update back then was like a new era of hype, my brother and I used to play it and sometime we used to grind all night long but ever since the evolution and level 15 has been released we don’t play it anymore because we were both free to play players and when we saw that evolutions and level 15 were over powering our decks that we have been playing for months we just couldn’t help but to get bored as the time passed and eventually had to delete the game because of how pay to win it had become, I just wanna say that I am still that old clash royale player but the game is not the same as it used to be, so for me it’s dead.

I'm an og player who quit when level 15 was announced the same week that I finally got my main deck maxed at 14. Logged in last week to see Dagger Duchess and evolutions and uninstalled again. I miss when playing the game was enough to earn a maxed deck, and there weren't gimmicks like tower troops and evolutions to make sure that normal people can't compete.
First joined all the way back in 2016 and haven’t touched the game in years, don’t exactly recall what made me uninstall but seeing the way this game was headed monetization wise it made it easy, could not have made a better decision seeing the state of the game now smh

A fresh account would find it easier to upgrade from lv.1 to lv.14 than you upgrading from lv.14 to lv.15

I'm not trying to bullshit anyone, I have about 20-25 max cards, and I didn't spend a dime to max those. I upgraded my main deck to lvl 15 in about 3 months, and from there, I've been grinding for elite wild cards on path of legends, buying the 5k elite wild card packs that cost 100k gold, and playing the tournaments and challenges. I have spent money on the game before, but after evos came out, I just stopped paying for anything.

I noticed something else about these updates - they give passive value to the player. You don't need to trade off anything to use a tower troop or evolution, it's strictly a buff.
With new cards, they may be strong, but they cost a deck slot and elixir to use. Even with champions, they cost a deck slot and elixir to use the ability. The main issue I saw people complaining about was the 3 card cycle with them from a fundamental design perspective (not a balance perspective)
It's unengaging for both players if you introduce passive value into games and take away agency. You can't outplay a tower troop like you can pressure your opponent enough so they can't use their champion ability or play their wincon.
So it's not even the monetary aspects, it's also just the design of the features put in

When I watch the brawl talks, I can really tell how much love and care Supercell gives to Brawl Stars. You never see this same energy with Clash Royale, which is a shame because in my opinion, Clash Royale in its prime was a much better game than brawl stars will ever be. You always see Clash of Clans and Brawl Stars get much more attention from the devs and the media, which frustrates me considering that Royale took the world by storm to a far greater scale than either of those games ever managed to do when it released back in 2016. Despite this, the game feels so forgotten, with many players quitting while the game drowns in monthly content updates that the devs are likely forced to add just to make Supercell money.
Yesterday, I made it to 1800 ultimate champion medals, and ended up in the top 10k players. This is an abnormally low number for the top 10k line to be at with only one week left in the season, so I'm assuming lots of dedicated players have given up on the game.
And about lucky drops, honestly I preferred getting free banner tokens because at least I had fun customizing my profile instead of getting useless common drops everyday.

I'm so glad I uninstalled Clash roughly two years ago. I still watch your vids because I do genuinely enjoy your style, but the game has been getting worse and worse.
I had been a free to play player since the day I started. I think I had my account for four or five years before I couldn't take the paywall anymore. The story you told about the streamer being stuck to a deck was true even before evolutions. It took such a long time to get cards for a different deck that I couldn't feasibly use a royal hog deck even if I wanted to. You had to get shop deals if you wanted to compete, and that is still true to a worse degree.
It really is a sad tale of greed, I wish the game could go back to the better days as well.
I used to defend the game but at this point I. play only to not get kicked from my clan, all my friends have alredy quited and the game feels so boring... OP cards, boring events (capture the...) and on top of that all I'm F2P. This is just sad.

It's been so frustrating watching the CR team consistently make the game Worse, and Worse, and Worse all in the name of Profit...and just short term profit. It's maddening because IF THEY JUST MADE THE GAME BETTER they would be making even More money with ten times the playerbase. It would still be a top mobile game, easily, as it should be.

Meanwhile Brawl Stars just gave out 5 legendary drops for free, giving players upwards of $100 worth of progression with the best luck. (I personally got about $50 worth which is about average from what I’ve seen)
Such a shame Clash Royale went from such a nostalgic and fun game that I used to play all the time with my middle school friends back in 2016 to this. It used to be annoying but fair when I lost, but now I feel nothing. Such a shame
FOR REAL. I am usually extremely unlucky but I opened 3 hypercharges and two star powers. Can you imagine if clash Royale just gave everyone a a few full decks to max for free, plus a few evolutions for free, and a tower troop for free? That would never, ever happen. This game is so dead.

I took the time to calculate the price among all the offers and it's crazy, including pass Royale and all the offers the total is 902$, almost a thousand dollars. That's crazy taking in consideration that a year ago when they were about to start the evolution cards, the store was barely empty, you could only buy pass Royale, gems and some random emote or offer from 1-5$. Working with those numbers we can realize that u used to spent around 15 or 20 bucks (between diamond pass Royale and some offer) and now 902 means a 5913.33% increase in prices. But yes, when they gift you an old Evo you totally forget about the P2W thing.
The worst part is the fact that the game gives you more offers the more you spend as well, so assuming you aren’t whaling that’s the base. I can’t even imagine what the total cost it gives to someone spending hundreds a month on the game.
As a experienced player I literally played the game for 5 years, and left the game for some seasons for a break, just to come back to see my progress got taken away, I really tried to come back to the game, but then they added evolutions, and I could keep up with the progress, now they added the tower cards making me feel even further behind progress, now I don't feel it's worth trying to keep up, they lost me
I'm so happy you're still talking about this, everyone spoke about it a year ago and after that it was like "yeah it is what it is" and they can get away with that because no one is speaking up. Like 3 months ago I literally lost it, I'm a casual so I don't grind and stuff but because I played so much before 2020 I have gained skill that was enough to achieve things I wanted so I never really struggled. So that time I had like 3 level 15 cards and I tried to hit ultimate champion (without evos) and it wasn't painful to reach royal champion, but after that it was a literal torture. Every player I faced had double evos, fully maxed decks and I just couldn't do it, I was 2 wins away and once I was like 7 wins away I gave up. It's possible to do it, my deck just isn't meta + I don't know every single interaction like others, but the feeling of knowing that the opponent is way worse compared to you, but since they spam cards to get to the evolutions and you just can't do anything is really not that great.
A big reason for why it feels like no one speaks about it anymore is because most people who are sufficiently upset by it to still be speaking about it to this day, are the same people who quit playing and are no longer part of the community because of it.

I did quit when the recent goblin mode released because it's too wack for me, and I don't really feel like grinding through something I don't enjoy to make progression, and I don't like how much I'll miss out on if I don't play the mode
I never payed a single dime on the game, I would've happily payed to support the game a couple years ago but I didn't have the means to make purchases, and I'm glad because I would've regret that money, now I don't think the game is not worth any of my money

the value is so little for such amounts of money - even less so with the strong lack of balance in the game
in mid ladder I've struggled to attain even 50% win rate without getting lucky with matchmaking or without spending a few months grinding out progression
I can buy like 15 good indie titles on discount with a hundred dollars and have thousands of hours of high quality super fun content and enjoy the company of amazing communities and possibly thousands more hours of modded content and playing challenges/speedruns and possibly even thousands more hours of youtube/twitch content, and retain the right to most of these for myself
hell, that's one year of Netflix, Crunchyroll, Curiosity Stream or any other, giving you access to thousands of top notch productions
and I can keep listing how much a hundred dollars can do for you in terms of entertainment but the point is made

As someone who spent money on that game, I full heartedly regret it. I apologized my dad for my unbreakable hyper fixation to the game and for lending me money so that I can be happy, assuring him that once I become a lawyer I’ll be the one paying him all the time.

The worst part is, that all the new features are not terrible in a vacuum, just horendously balanced.
Champions enable you to have a three card cycle, which is ok as long as they are not to cheap and you have to deal with the fact that you maybe have only one anti air card to defend, when your Queen is on the other side of the map.
Evolutions in theory spice the game up and give underused cards a second chance. Problems arise, if you give an extremly cheap card a game winning ability and 1 card cycle or just ignore cards that really do need an evolution (Mega Minion). Plus the ungodly grind for shards and mostly evos that play well with cyclr and not many other archetypes.
Towertroops are a lot more complicated. I think the cannoneer is reasonable enough, it is great against tanks, bad against swarms and you really need to support him. It also did not delete a lot of decks from the meta, as beatdown still had a chance against it and it had about as many downsides as upsides.
Dagger Duches just was a mistake. She clears swarms, prevents chip damage, removes mini tanks from the game and has enough burst damage, that even against beatdown you had very little problems. The fact that you had to spent ~2 elixir just as fodder for the tower to even aproach it in single just shows that they didn't really want to balance it/were not allowed to just to sell those sweet offers. And while Cannoneer certainly anihilated some interactions it had enough effecient counterplay.
The goblin mode is the least fun I ever had in CR. You need to win about 70 matches to unlock all the new cards, while playing against basicalls the same deck the whole time. To add insult to injury, you might not have most goblin cards upgraded, as most don't inherently synergise with each other and it just leeds to spamming goblins, spamming couters to goblins or ignoring the event alltogether and just play Lavahound because most decks just have Dartgoblin as AA.
This could all have been prevented, if they went full Builder Base and completly disconected the Goblin Road with normal Ladder. You unlock and upgrade cards, just for the goblin ladder and have a seperat chest cycle. This would allow them to tailor the goblin ladder better and allow new p(l)ayers a chance at the game. All this could be furtehr improved by restricting the card pool, like cutting most tanky units if you really want a logbait fest and it wouldn't hurt players who main lava loon, as it is completly seperat.
And to keep the players playing this mode, decrease chest timers and upgrade costs by alot and give them something for the main ladder (e.g. every goblin silver chest contains stuff for the goblin mode worth a silver chest + some gold and cards for the main ladder).
And they could even give reward at the end of the season depending on your trophies and card level.

I quit playing sometime after buying the OP Gold Passes to get a Skeleton King to Level 14. So about 2-3 years ago. Ever since, I’ve followed along on media to see where the game has gone.
Honestly, a lot of the updates they did had lots of potential. In fact, most of what they added would have been perfectly fine… if not for the monetization.
Monetization has singlehandedly murdered the potential of every single update they’ve released thus far. Like you said, only the people who spend abhorrent amounts of money actually get to play the updates. If you’re not a spender, the update did not apply to you.
In fact, the update only f-d you further, because the spenders would get the stuff that would make them win & make people who DON’T spend money (aka you) lose. In other words, the game became P2W to an unprecedented extent.
SuperCell knows this. They’ve always known this. It’s been this way since the beginning of the game’s existence. Only now is it so extreme that the difference between you having getting ONE evolution or NOT having an evolution is a 6 month grind or $100.
All they have to do to fix this - ALL of this - is to separate money from competitiveness. It still isn’t too late for that.
Cap card levels at Level 11 on Path of Legends (and maybe eventually move it up to Level 14 once it makes sense to). Ban Evolutions on Path of Legends. Level-Boost new cards/tower troops for 3 months so that everyone that has unlocked them can at least enjoy the update for a time and not get immediately boned for 3 months and be forced to wait for balance changes to make the game playable again.
Path of Legends should be the one place where competitive people can play competitively, for free. That’s what it was meant for. It was always meant to be THE competitive experience. It should be FAIR, it should NOT be P2W, and it should be a testament to your SKILLS as a Clash Royale player, not your WALLET.
You wanna have P2W Level 15 evolutions on Ladder matches, Event matches, & Clan Wars? Fine by me. Those modes probably need it in order to be relevant anyway. Wanna lock fun features behind higher king/card levels? Go ahead. Gives me something to eventually grind towards/pay for.
But Do. Not. Force. Us. To. Spend. Money. To. Compete.
Ever.
If we give you money, it should be because we support you, and NOT because we are required to. If you add fun things that destroy the meta, keep it out of the competitive scene. Or if you’re gonna put it in anyway, give everyone the equal opportunity to abuse it.

Another game fell into this hole, lets just wait a few years, to see it finally die. Or rise up as a community to pull game back from this hole, and make it "Great again", but I doubt that`ll happen

I've been 1.5 years clash royale sober, and seeing how things are now I'm glad I ended it on a good note.
Deleted the app and then returned to the game. Realized it just made me mad, so I permanently deleted my account. That was about a year ago. I played since beta launch and have spent at least $150 on the game. I know that is pennies compared to some people that spend thousands, but I'm the average player that is willing to spend occasionally, and the deals + season pass used to be genuinely somewhat worth it way back when it released. The game was demolished after they got rid of the original clan wars + clan chest. The last thing they added to the game that was I remember actually being fun was fricking 2v2 and that was in like 2018 or something LMAO
what you said about level 15 and card mastery makes me even more mad at supercell. it just demonstrates that their claim that they wanted “pLaYEr rEtEntIoN” is absolute bullshit because of the fact that they monetized it like they did rather than use a good idea like card mastery that’s literally designed around retention. nothing changed from the announcements for pass royale and level 15 ig
as a f2p player, i can completely attest that clash royale has essentially had no new content for the past year.

i had to quickly pause and say how brilliant that idea is to tie level 15 "elite" cards with card masteries!! I can't tell you all how many times i've messaged the "support team" urging them to better utilize card masteries (since many cards still have a "coming soon" under the 3rd level...) It's very silly how often #SUPERCELL has introduced new elements (I.E. Champions) to only forget about them, or make one LITTLE PRINCE completely broken! One "plus" with Queens Journey has been seeing an influx of people trying to utilize Monk, but he & Skeleton King are the most underutilized Champions and SuperCell could care less about these features they introduce to completely forget about once they've milked that cash cow! Everyday they give you a free reward in the shop, but in order to reach it you have to scroll through dozens and dozens of offers to get to the very bottom of the page to get the free item. Kinda crazy
I was a 70% maxed free to play level 14 when level 15 came out and I haven't stopped playing since and I only have 4 level 15s.
Fun fact, who ever request a refund the game not letting you in, it’s stuck on 50%.

i love your content brad, i discovered u in 2021 casually under an oj video. the first video i saw was the "how i got first in triple draft tourbament" video. i saw that and i tought: "wow this content creator is great" and i watched all of your videos over and over because i had fun. i really remember having a desire to meet u in real life because i had so much esteem in u that i would like to talk to u. i'm saying that because if u want to do new content with other games i think i would watch it anyways because I like u, the game does not matter, or better, it matters but not as u having fun. hope u read this comment. so much love man
You left out the part where they nerfed the OP dagger duchess basically to oblivion. Went from being a huge advantage just by having it to worse than regular towers except against some bait. They basically got a bunch of people to fork over money or spend precious resources trying to get it and then made it incredibly niche to use. That didn't exactly help. Especially since there are no refunds on money or spent resources.
Day 1 Clash Royale player here who quit the game 3 years ago, why do people still play this "pay to play" game its not even "pay to win" at this point.
