I've seen a jeweller on TH-cam who says to solder the wire to the plate first then wrap/form it into a ring shape. Have you tried that and/or any reason(s) you don't do it that way? Also would you ever consider half round wire instead of square? Is it a lot cheaper to cast your own wire?

A quick suggestion : you could make some wing nuts on the bolts that you use to secure your mill and not only. Other than that, super info
That is a good idea but I do not have everything mounted to the table.
I don't see much silver anymore for these inlayed band rings,is it because of the cost of silver now?
It could be but it could also be the time it take to make something like this

You can but you will need to file it down for the sides so it will look like all one piece of metal

I think your original idea was good for a square ingot, you just didn’t keep the melted silver hot enough. Maybe next time 🤞🏽

Hey, thanks for putting these videos up! I have a quick question for you- when I try to attach the square wire to the ring, my solder ends up coating the wire and not flowing into the joint. I've tried cleaning the touching surfaces better and also applying flux before I put the wires on, but no luck. I don't typically have trouble soldering, but this kind of joint seems to get the better of me. Any tips for a beginner?
Make sure you heat the core ring before moving to the outer rings. Solder will stick and flow to the hottest point so if the thinner outer ring is getting all the heat it will just jump to that
