Its hard to imagine a three piece, with no vocals being so compelling. Then you realise where the bassist is hiding. God lord, busy man. Such great sounds/tunes/songwriting/playing. I keep coming back. I hope to see you guys live one day.

No surprise at all. Kevin Suggs and KEXP always have great sound engineering. I love listening to almost anything KEXP gets their hands on. They invite tons of interesting bands into the studio and do a phenomenal job recording them.
Speechless. For a jazz fanatic like me, who rarely likes to go listen to a jazz, funk or soul music live when there is a guitar on the line-up, this guy changed my whole view on life and jazz and guitars. That guitarist. Oh my. I got chills during that solo. And now I'm sweating...
Delvon is playing funky bass lines with his left hand and foot and countering riffs and lead runs on the right..true independence playing..this is amazing
I used to work as an after-school carer for primary school kids. One time I threw on Parliament's Clones of Dr Funkenstein at the playground and all the little kids danced their asses off while the older kids made fun of me for liking old music. Something sad is definitely happening to them in those intervening years...
@Dave Elkins, I absolutely never comment on TH-cam, but I really have to tell you that your comment was, word for word, what I was thinking while watching the video for the first time.
I meet mister jimmy James on a accident at a guitar shop in Seattle called the emerald guitar it was amazing I was blown away plus he played his guitar once for my daughter Bella for her birthday every since then I so admire him as a person and a guitar legend because he is
It's great except it falls short on one part in the last song. There's like an unintentional pause/break between two chords (consistently in that same part throughout the song, don't know maybe it's the bridge) because there's no sustain. It sounds jarring because it sounds like a beginner picking up a guitar and not being able to sustain notes or they can't play something fluently at first and it's patchy like that. It would be smoother if he adjusted his tone for the same sound and play to create short sustaining notes and longer sustaining notes as needed rather than be stuck with all short sustaining. Or just strum closer to the neck in those parts but that might sound weird with the difference in tone idk
I know you posted this a month ago haha but I think that's just a problem with those old vintage sears guitars. They weren't the best quality to begin with so unless you mod the crap out of it (Doesn't look like he has) You're never going to get that much sustain. You'd have to upgrade the nut and saddles and everything.
That's the perfect music to relax to, in the evening. Just found them today while I was on youtube-safari. I really like, how their tarantino-esque appearance matches their musical performance. Those three are real soul brothers...
Look up "groove-meister" in any dictionary: their picture is on the top of the page! Then, look up "dynamics": same picture!! Then, look up "funk": same damn picture!!! Thanks for posting this. Got me grinning big time.
Thought I would just have a quick listen before bed as it is a work day tomorrow and it is gone midnight... But... no chance of a ‘quick listen’ when it is this funky - it would be a crime to stop this in the middle... gonna be a late night...
The girl in the pink jacket bewind the window! Thats the next generation who pics up the music!! The band is just awesome! Thats what its all about! Green jacket older man freaks out on its past!!
Love the music! Maybe a vocalist would work for the addition of an occasional lyrical tune? But anyways they re y the best new group I 've heard in a long time!
Great, timeless music right here. A little Booker T., a little Meters, a whole lot of soul, and three amazingly talented musicians. I didn't make it all the way through Concussion without having to look you guys up and become a fan.
This gentleman on the HB3 has a great way about his stage presence and such a brilliant form of technique on his chosen instrument. I have been listening about each and every day to one of the sessions. KEXP is excellent in what I have recently become acquainted with. Thank you, both, the trio and KEXP together with a great audience.
Amazing Trio! All tremendous musicians. I love how Organ player is rocking the bass on the left hand as well as the rest of the other stuff he is doing with his feet and right hand. So cool!! I'm glad I found you guys on TH-cam.
12:48 the way he comes off it. Like dayum. Reminds me of every 60s and 70s jamout. This is a the best thing since the last best thing! And this is bestest!!
Imagine if you will, you were walking down the street and behind some windows an ultra talented group of musicians started jamming so hard that your hips fell out, but you were not even close to being worthy of witnessing it. Like at all. Welcome to The Twilight Zone.
Bob from accounting was able to take an extended lunch break to play the drums with Delvon and Jimmy
😂
"Bob" is crushin it. I still wanna be Jimmy James though
Drummer plays respectfully to the music and most importantly in the pocket. That is a top notch drummer if you ask me. Well Done Sir.
My doctor told me to play this video everytime i feel tired and sick... This groove makes me dance inmediately >>>>>>>
Now thats what I call the GOOD Doctor!
Why aren't these guys more famous and popular? Their album Close But No Cigar should be the soundtrack for life.
McGraw on the drums is a wizard at appearing to be doing almost nothing.
So casual in his formal wear

Whenever you get a chance go and get them. Two years ago I I've had a unforgettable experience with DLO3 in Prague.

There are a lot of drummers out there who try to play funk. David McGraw (the drummer) actually does. Most excellent.

Probably some of older ones identify such a music with their parents, and that's simply teenage rebellion I guess )

Lovin' the Tabasco shirt.
And the Booker T vibes. Such a solid performance.
Alex Mickee they're great but sounds to me much more jtqesque What you think?
Booker T? Ummm no.
Alex Mickee they got a piece on their lp called little Booker t, shit's fire
i really like the near-bridge-picking attacking-but-short-sustaining retrospectively-mellow-and-vintage guitar sound. brilliant!
Meters-esque

Hey Mr Cho (or responder JonathanD), do you know what kind of guitar it is? (The red hollow body Jimmy James is playing). Thanks!
When Jimmy James picks up the Strat you know shit gonna get real
Jimmy James 'siren solo' 12:23 on Tacoma Black Party, good stuff!

No such thing as an early night with groovy music like this. It's infectious. Same with Marcus King
Randomly landed here tonight while having it be a pillar of daily foundations of music that caused me to feel better, than good!
Even tho I've heard it about 96 times, that organ bass line for 'Tacoma Black Party' is just riDICulous!!! I mean it in a good way.

Nice to see parents teaching their children what music is.
Thank you youtube recommendations!!!
Music of the times, times are changing indeed, and for the better!
Bien bien grupo
No fuss. No mess. Just straight up funky when let out the gate from start to finish.
Could this be a hour long, please? Several hours long, please?
Some of these takes are actually superior to the album versions. That goes for the shorter video (entitled "Warm up ..."), too. Really great stuff!
probably one of the best things to happen to music in a while. this just enriched my entire life.
The groove is so damn deep I can't climb out... Amazing performance, and a brilliant recording 👌
My God, Delvon is playing the bass with his feet while playing melody with his fingers. Amazing musicianship. Pure genius.
HOW DOES THIS NOT HAVE MORE VIEWS,
Love the music! Maybe a vocalist would work for the addition of an occasional lyrical tune? But anyways they re y the best new group I 've heard in a long time!
It's not not because of me I watch this all the time.
Everyone doesn't have this type of taste bro.
Best thing Ive seen for a looong while. I'm happier now

The Meters will live forever my friends, awesome.
Damn I have been away from Seattle for 30 plus years and it is still the coolest place to experience real life. Said

I dig the Silvertone guitar. The Hammond organ is a given in a trio like this, but the Silvertone... damn!
Who the fk has a non existent taste to dislike this masterpiece???
Saw these guys in NYC a few months ago at Rockwood Music Hall.. They absolutely killed it.. Groovemeisters of the highest order.
Thanks for the love & thanks for being there!!!
That guitarist is Jimmy James. He used to play with Grace Love. He brings that funky bluesness.
Grey Eagleççjç
Used to? He still plays in the True Loves and Grace Love is in that band.
Zack Schaefer Grace no longer plays with the true loves. They function separately now. Jimmy leads them.

Just picked this up on vinyl, what a treasure. Nice work fellas.
The little girl dancing on the sidewalk. Nice!
Yes! She is feeling it.
Her first exposure to real funk. Her life is changing in these moments, though she doesn't know it yet.
I agree with everyone. She, the little girl dancing outside, put what music is all about in context. Especially, with these 3 venerable players!

Agreed but I believe the real low-end bass is coming from the bass foot pedals. In any event great stuff!
I'm diggin this band !! Nice phat grooves. That little girl dancing makes me have hope for the world.
El guitarrista me ha parecido tremendo, el tio es pura magia
