My dad thought his attaché was stolen from his workplace last week, but the cops ended up finding it under the break room table like five minutes after they showed up. It was a briefcase.
My husband worked in Rock Springs, WY back in the late 1980's. I used to spend weekends with him. That place was the most wild and corrupt town I've ever stepped foot in. Insanity reigned. It was still reeling from a famous 1978 murder case involving corruption that stretched all the way to the capital of Wyoming A great book called "The Last Western" written by Rone Tempest was written about it in 2021. The famous Wyoming attorney, Gerry Spence was involved. He's considered one of the most successful criminal defense attorneys in American history and is now a spry 95 years old. Never lost a case. Thought you might like to hear a little bit of our Wild West murder history. Love your channel ❤
Rock Springs wasn't always a crazy, wild town. When they shut down some of the whore houses in Colorado they moved to Rock Springs. With that invironment came gambling and Mafia and murder. I knew Jerry Spence, he was from Jackson
Didn't anyone ask little Edith if she had been hurt by the victim? It seems to me to be a very important aspect. From just murder to, IMHO, justifiable homicide!
Those kind of matters were very much shunned and way to Taboo back in those days. SA actually has only become a more discussed and exposed thing since the 90s and it was a very different world back then especially in Victorian times. Even normal sexual matters were NEVER a place for drawing room discussions in those days.
I wasn’t quite sure what to believe until you mentioned Edith’s disclosure to her adoptive parents. Elizabeth wasn’t an obvious femme fatale but l understand that men outnumbered women in many parts of the USA at that time and they didn’t have much choice. I do feel a little sorry for Josiah, he seemed to have been fundamentally a decent man and perhaps the harsh conditions Elizabeth endured shaped her character. However many people lived under similar conditions and didn’t resort to murder. It is possible that Josiah believed Elizabeth’s story about Miles assaulting Edith, it’s even possible that there could have been some to truth to it but we can’t know for sure what happened. I do hope that Edith and her siblings managed to have a better life
I agree rosemary, I too feel sorry for Josiah. Just the idea that Elizabeth would go on a trip and up and marry another man is disturbing. I'll wager Josiah figured it out but kept quiet. Elizabeth was the catalyst for everything that followed. My pity lies with Josiah and his children.
That was fascinating. I can't help but wonder why her marriage to that man wasn't revealed in court. That would have been an obvious motive. Did they not know about it at the time?
It is interesting that even their sentencing judge helped with an appeal. I wonder what factors sold the jury on guilt. That was some twist at the end.
Wow! The description of Mr and Mrs Potts going to their death on the gallows was quite dramatic! I was on the edge of my seat, thinking they may possibly win a stay of execution…up until the trapdoor opened! Great story telling!
I spent time in Elko Nevada in the mid 1960s. The hotel room didnt look that much different from the jail. It even came furnished with its own blackwidow spider. Ahh...memories. Thanks BC. Another great story.
@BriefCaseOfficial it was a very small town then. 1 gas station, which out in the desert was it's claim to fame. I was a kid but I remember it getting really cold at night learning about the big difference between day and night temps. Stayed about 3 days. It was an adventure

I find it amusing to hear Elko mentioned anywhere. It was mentioned in the beginning of Groundhog Day . Lived there from 1997 to 2010. Carlin is about thirty minutes away. I don't think its the Hot Springs Ranch anymore. I think its Dovetail . Elko use to be a vacation home for Bing Crosby. Its grown a lot. Carlin is still just a blip along the hwy.

This was very interesting. Those were some pretty tough times back then. Many people married out of hardship so they could pull their resourses together and so many families were separated from one another to make ends meet. This case was very odd though.

I spent a little time in Elko about 20 years back. There wasn't much to it at the time so I can't even imagine what had it been like in the 1890s.
This one had it ALL. It’s a perfect example of the saying that truth is stranger than fiction.
Thanks for sharing BC.

Thank you for your very interesting short note. "Attorney never lost a case", says a lot about Mr Spence.
Gerry Spence is an interesting gentleman.

When were mannequins invented because its usually them that dead bodies are mistaken for not a turnip
Haha…🤣😅

No the dolls came out in the early 80’s, turnips have a hairy top
