I remember a photo of the bare crabapple tree that the victims were found beneath. It had been stripped of it’s bark. Such a bizarre thing to do, the ghouls. lol
That’s because you live in the modern world where forsenics science exists and you know what happens if a crime scene gets disturbed. There were also different views regarding disturbing a deceased person who had not been buried yet. Very macabre behavior by today’s society.
Agreed. She knew if she got a divorce she would have the neighbors talk so it was likely just as much to prevent any gossip as it was to teach her husband a lesson.
I was taken back by the amount and manner she was shot. I’m thinking maybe Francis may have shot Elenor, and had more anger against her than the husband.
Yeah I noticed that too, usually with a knife it's a much more personal vengeance. For some people they're more angry at the homewrecker than with their own cheating spouse, even though both are equally guilty.
It took an exhumation years later to notice her tongue had been cut out. Obviously, they never noticed a tongue anywhere around the crime scene as if the scene wasn't already a circus.
@@lisanunlist9510Notable point! And her throat was also cut furthering your proposal. It sure seems as a focused hatred. All that in addition to the gun shots.
If Mrs. Hall's motive was preserving her reputation, placing love letters next to the bodies doesn't sound like a good move. I do think she was (directly or indirectly) responsible for the crime, but it sounds more like a crime born out of jealousy and spite. Cutting Eleanor's throat and tongue kinda looks like whoever the perpetrator was, they wanted to symbolically remove her singing talent from her - even after death.
I don't want to be gross but they might have caught them with her tongue out, if you know what I mean. I don't think she was trying to preserve her reputation - after all, she didn't do anything wrong. The motive was pure revenge.
No, not really, because it was about humiliating and condemning them in front of the entire community. See? See what they were! You thought he was a pious man and she a good wife and mother, but this is what they were up to the entire time! Now rally round and feel sorry for me and condemn them...The cheating scoundrels who got what they deserved! Now THAT'S how people minds work. So many cases of religious people fearing community scorn for a divorce, so they murder their spouse! In one case, the bf bludgeoned the girlfriend's husband in the bed next to her. Who would suspect her? Now these two people have never consummated their relationship before and after the murder, never got together. The entire murder was motivated by the fact that they loved each other and she was married. They moved away from that community, ended up marrying others and getting on with their lives for a couple of decades. I can't remember how the case got reopened, but a murder case can always be prosecuted. The cops showed up at her door and showed up at the guys door. The guy was a respected member of the community, he was married, had children. He didn't look anything like anyone who would have done such a thing but he ended up confessing. The woman didn't seem all that surprised when the cops showed up and almost, basically, gave herself away like she was waiting all those years for them to show up. I can't remember what the convictions were. R wife had stood my the husband and still couldn't believe he'd done it even after he admitted it in open court. Yeah, but these two very religious people were more concerned about the prospect of a divorce or the scandal of an affair, but had no problem bludgeoning to death that poor woman's husband. 🤷🏽♀️ Now THAT'S people for you. Don't try to apply LOGIC! Ask any homicide detective!

4:45 I can tell you from the manner of death, this was inflicted by someone experiencing extreme personal rage, especially towards the woman. It was definitely not a robbery, this was personal…likely extreme jealousy and rage, the police are much smarter than me so they too would immediately know that! When a murderer covers the face of a victim as was done with the hat, it’s because they love the person they just killed and don’t want to see the damage they caused and want to preserve their victims dignity. The murderer loved the man but hated the woman. Does anyone fit that profile because if they do, you found your killer. Proving it? That’s more difficult!

Hi!!! I liked this case. I thought it would have been the women's husband at first. I do believe it was the reverands wife and brothers for sure. She talked them into doing it...Great Video!!!...Your fan&friend from USA...🇺🇸🦋
I read the book, Blood & Ink by Joe Pompeo, about this case. Your narration is right on and very concise and to the point. I enjoyed the info as a reminder of what I had read over a year ago. Thank you.
I've heard of and seen this case on tv. Well... A reconstruction of it. Can't remember the tv show that did it, though. So much for upstanding, well respected people. Typical. Thanks BC for covering this case in detail. Loved listening to you narrate it.
@@annettefournier9655 Reread my comment. I've known way too many so called preachers and people of what was described in the narration. I went to Catholic school for awhile. Apparently you don't know all types of humans. My mother was catholic, my father was baptist. I know all kinds of preachers and church ladies. 😀
These people were well liked but not upstanding. It is even mentioned that the minister’s marriage was strained by his interest in women of the congregation. Ministers can have charismatic personalities which make them subject to infidelity. No excuse, just a cause.
I grew up in New Brunswick, NJ. Ironically my paternal line's name is Hall but we are of a mixed background. The church where Rev. Hall is still active, his old home still on Carmen St. The area where they were found is broken up with some having homes on it. Rutgers Law School tried this case and there was no conclusion. There are also virtual murder mysteries held by the NB Public Library. Maybe one day it will be solved since it happened over 100 years ago.
Hey, BC, you were mentioned in one of the Mojo videos! Your work is being recognized by the big TH-cam channels! Bravo! Just edited my comment because I missed all the typos earlier. Phew! That was embarrassing lol
Happens to the best of us. Darned spelling corrector. Can't tell you how often it changes what I type to a proper last name or place name. So frustrating.
So often people in music ministry end up involved in adultery scandals! Churches need strict standards about male ministers and staff being alone with women, unless she is elderly. I think adultery by religious workers should be a crime, as it violates community trust. Too often predators gravitate to churches. They need to be punished even if the victims are adults. If the religious worker wants to have affairs, they must renounce their ordination and employment by any house of worship or religious educational institutions, as well as any work with vulnerable people. Probably the minister's wife paid someone to kill the offending couple or her brothers did it.
Whoa! Almost a mystery! Sounds like the wife and brothers did it but would be remarkable if modern forensics solved it. Excellent narration...I listened but didn't watch. Now I'll have to view again so I can enjoy your marvelous illustrations. Thanks BC
A very well narrated account of a disturbing incident. The fact that his watch was gone, torn up love letters and the woman having been shot multiple times and having her tongue cut out makes me think of the old adage 'hell hath no fury like a woman scorned''. Feel incredibly sorry for the husband and two children of the deceased woman.
Another very interesting piece! I look forward to all your insights into these crimes. The pictures are fantastic and add to the overall experience! Thanks Brief Case!😌
Interesting case, well presented as usual. I love the old photos. People really don't change, the media and public behaviour is exactly the same as today.
I remember reading about this case some years ago, and being struck by the sadness of it. It was said that Rev Hall and Mrs Mills not only had unhappy marriages but that both were bullied (and possibly worse) by their spouses. They were portrayed as a timid couple who found comfort and love in each other, albeit an adulterous love. It seems all the more poignant that they died together somehow. 😔
Good afternoon Brief Case. 👋 Thank you for another Monday morning upload, after my fifth night shift on my eight night schedule. Your videos are always wonderful after working all night. Thank you so much for your consistent uploads. 🤗
@@BriefCaseOfficial Thank you for asking. It is so far. But we are implementing a new way to make our IV solutions on Tuesday. It's called BD IV Prep and it's heavily for patient safety, which is excellent. But it's new and that's always a bit nerve wracking learning something new. We will get used to it after using it for awhile.
My parents went to New Brunswick HS in NJ. They graduated in 1949, and were always very interested in this case. My mother’s grandmother was a housekeeper of one of the lovely large homes near the Hill residence. Now those old homes are owned by Rutgers, and are Frat and Sororityhouses. My parents were always very disappointed in the demise of the city in general. Lastly, ye Old Parker Nursing Home located on Easton Ave. In New Brunswick is where my mother passed away in 2016. It’s still kicking and was used as part of Mrs Hill’s maids alibi. Apparently she claimed she was at this nursing home visiting someone, at a critical time. I know this because I have an original edition of a book written long ago called The Minister and The choir girl. Directly across the street from this 50 bed nursing home is the street where the murders took place.
@aprilkalcsa9336, how about the fake man of GOD and the woman who destroyed not only her family, (and children), but the family of that no good preacher. They're both going to hell and Glad that woman and family were found NOT GUILTY. I doubt she's the one who left a trail of ripped love letters on the scene of the crime Just glad she had the money to defend herself. Maybe it was the hoe's husband who committed the crime, and got away with it. You're too fast to blame the wife.
I simply enjoy these real stories from the past. Bless you sir..and keep them coming. History always deserves a tumming in.ost definitely un todays world 🌎
If Mrs Hall had them killed to protect her reputation from her husband's affair, staging the bodies together to call attention to the affair as a motive makes no sense. I think it's more likely that it was someone else (probably involved with the church) who discovered the affair and decided the adulterers should be punished
I'm really glad she got off. Middle-aged men having affairs and discarding their faithful wives for younger women is disloyal, despicable, cowardly behavior. He also used his wife for her money which makes him doubly despicable.
No one can say with absolute authority why he married her. So, that is speculation. Yes, adultry is wrong, but so is murder! He suffered the consequence of his actions (though a little overkill), and so should his killers. Either way, they will be judged in death.
Thank you for doing this. I grew up around the block from where this happened. It’s funny some of street names like Philip’s Road were the names of farms in the area during the time of the murders. Johnson’s are big in this area. They have an estate across the street from the murders. I never knew about this until I took a course in college and then I found out it was so close to our home. Took some classmates to the area. Frances Stevens Hall was related to a lot of monied families in NJ including the Neilsons, Carpenders, and possibly the Johnsons(Johnson & Johnson). There are many building in New Brunswick and Rutgers University that are named after her family members. The residence of the Dean of Douglas College at Rutgers University is the former home of Frances Stevens and Rev Stevens.
know this story well- many streets around somerset county have been named after many of the players = judge= lawyers= police etc a good book on the subject is The Halls Mills Murder Case- the minster and the choir singer- by William Kunstler- the greenwood cemetery in Brooklyn is also very famous- It is such an interesting story-

Gday BC, this was an interesting case. A huge thank you for my Monday night entertainment, without BC on Monday night, my start of the week is incomplete. Thank you for the time and effort you put in to this amazing channel.
Thanks so much Rick :)
Thanks for another fascinating case from the USA. Happy 6th Anniversary BC.
Thanks Berenice
Hi!!! I liked this case. I thought it would have been the women's husband at first. I do believe it was the reverands wife and brothers for sure. She talked them into doing it...Great Video!!!...Your fan&friend from USA...🇺🇸🦋
Thanks
Thankyou so much Irene
I read the book, Blood & Ink by Joe Pompeo, about this case. Your narration is right on and very concise and to the point. I enjoyed the info as a reminder of what I had read over a year ago. Thank you.
Love your content. Hello from USA.
Thankyou

I've heard of and seen this case on tv. Well... A reconstruction of it. Can't remember the tv show that did it, though. So much for upstanding, well respected people. Typical.
Thanks BC for covering this case in detail. Loved listening to you narrate it.
Thankyou
Apparently you haven't known very many preachers or church ladies.
@@coxmosia1 The churchier they are, the randy-er they are. Church is for sinners and man do they enjoy sinning, anywhere they can.
Now can start my day!! My favorite channel!! ❤️
Thank you!
Thanks, that's a very big channel indeed
Happens to the best of us. Darned spelling corrector. Can't tell you how often it changes what I type to a proper last name or place name. So frustrating.
Great Brief Case morning everyone
Thankyou
Another great video mate. Keep up the great work mate
Thanks, will try :)
Thanks, will try :)
Brief Case you never cease to amaze me!!!
You can clearly see that the woman was targeted.
This was a great episode!
Thank you Brief Case!!!
Thanks Kerry
Right on time BC, good afternoon ❤

Thanks
Love your voice
Great story teller❤
Thank you so much!
What a startlingly attractive woman Eleanor was. That photograph of her is mesmerising.
And it's a natural beauty. No makeup or enhancements.

I can't believe it's been only 7 days since the last clip!
Religion is a crime
It’s hypocritical, as religion often is, but hardly a crime.
unless she is elderly? that doesn't even stop some men. LOL
@@reneelibby4885Exactly! Put me in the woods with the bear 🐻 lol
William Kunstler wrote a book about this case. "The Hall-Mills Murder Case: The Minister and the Choir Singer."
I always look forward to a new case ! I adore and thank you for this channel
Thanks so much Lisa
Hi! Saw your clip on "watch mojo"! That's pretty cool, congrats!
Good afternoon all from Tampa FL ❤❤❤❤ thanks for another upload BC ❤
Hey there!
Wow, this was a juicy one! 😮
Whoa! Almost a mystery! Sounds like the wife and brothers did it but would be remarkable if modern forensics solved it. Excellent narration...I listened but didn't watch. Now I'll have to view again so I can enjoy your marvelous illustrations. Thanks BC
Thankyou
Always the best way to start monday😊
Thanks
Thank you for yet another gem Mr briefcase! ❤
Thanks for watching
I really enjoy your channel! Thank you so very much for sharing these amazing stories with me....

You are so welcome Vicki
Quite a mess, too many fingers in the pie. Excellent as always BC. 👏🇨🇦🎈
Thank you :)
Thankyou
@@BriefCaseOfficial you are very welcome!
Interesting case, well presented as usual. I love the old photos.
People really don't change, the media and public behaviour is exactly the same as today.
Thanks :)
"get you hot dogs, cold beer, peanuts!!". "Have your photo taken with a corpse!". A naughty boy preacher...like that doesn't happen everyday.
Great case Briefy as always
Hope all is goody

Thanks
I remember reading about this case some years ago, and being struck by the sadness of it. It was said that Rev Hall and Mrs Mills not only had unhappy marriages but that both were bullied (and possibly worse) by their spouses. They were portrayed as a timid couple who found comfort and love in each other, albeit an adulterous love. It seems all the more poignant that they died together somehow. 😔
another great story, thank you.
Thanks for listening
Thank you. Always enjoyable.❤
Thanks
Good afternoon Brief Case. 👋 Thank you for another Monday morning upload, after my fifth night shift on my eight night schedule. Your videos are always wonderful after working all night. Thank you so much for your consistent uploads. 🤗
Thanks Matto, I hope your work is going well
@@BriefCaseOfficial Thank you for asking. It is so far. But we are implementing a new way to make our IV solutions on Tuesday. It's called BD IV Prep and it's heavily for patient safety, which is excellent. But it's new and that's always a bit nerve wracking learning something new. We will get used to it after using it for awhile.
Hope it all goes well

The wealthly Always go unpunished.
Fantastic as usual! Thank you so much 🙏

Thanks 4 another fantastic video 📸 now time 2 buckle up and get stuck in this is what mondays are 4 thanks brief case 😊
Very interesting point.
Probably the gay male choir director lol 😂
I'm really glad she got off. Middle-aged men having affairs and discarding their faithful wives for younger women is disloyal, despicable, cowardly behavior. He also used his wife for her money which makes him doubly despicable.
Cheating & Gold Digging Is Wrong, But Doesn't Deserve The Death Penalty.
It's wrong and disgusting behavior but not worthy of death. Divorce him and move on.
@@thewatcher5271 He was a vicar and the bible says no adultery. You were stoned to death in the bible for this - so it is the death penalty!
No one can say with absolute authority why he married her. So, that is speculation. Yes, adultry is wrong, but so is murder! He suffered the consequence of his actions (though a little overkill), and so should his killers. Either way, they will be judged in death.
@@RedheadLondonthe new covenant, written out in the New Testament, does not encourage or promote stoning. Vengeance is the Lords.
Greetings from Kim from Nottingham England, good article xx
Thanks for listening Kim :)
know this story well- many streets around somerset county have been named after many of the players = judge= lawyers= police etc a good book on the subject is The Halls Mills Murder Case- the minster and the choir singer- by William Kunstler- the greenwood cemetery in Brooklyn is also very famous- It is such an interesting story-
Thanks for another great case I enjoy all of your cases
Thanks for watching!
My Brief Case!!!! 👋😁👍
They did it. No doughts about it. That they had a good lawyer and got them out .Thats another two cents.
Yes! They did it alright. another case of money being greater than the law. The pig woman witnessed it , they had the motive etc. Religion , a force for evil!
Love your style of story telling 😊
Thanks Samantha
