I listen to these every night. I have trouble sleeping and this brings me back to my childhood. My Grandfather was a dairy farmer, and the most gentle and soft spoken man. He would be sitting in his rocking chair next to the coal stove, smoking his pipe. Out of nowhere, he would start telling a story about the old days. These videos bring me that comfort.❤
A new episode to watch before bed!
Something about Paul's voice that is just soothing.
😊
I watch his videos but I also listen to the compilations, turned way down low, as a sleep aid! His voice is that soothing!
🎉❤
Just found this channel tonight, making a playlist right now.
Thanks Paul and Team! Looking forward to the binge tomorrow.
As an American, you are part of my mental health program (especially the last few weeks). Thank you for your hard work and the long compilations 🙏
😂😂😂😂😂 🎉 better toughen up buttercup 😂
It is a good combination of stories, just right to unwind by. 😊
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels the same way.
I am also American. I drink your tears 🧂🥤
@@pattilemonhouse7911 that’s both creepy and medically unsound.
I could listen to this man for hours and hours. If my college professor sounded like this id have passed his class. This channel is very, very underrated. One of top 3 best💥.💜
True, and this isn't all he does, Paul is an actor, too!❤
@@WVgrl59and a musician!!
I’m watching my best friend sleep right now 🐈⬛❤ she’s been my companion for eighteen years and I love her more than anything. Love you, Sadie.
Lol, me too, my 10 year old, 105 pd Pit-mix Rocky, he's laying next to me snoring the night away.
How wonderful that you shared your sentiment with us 😍
I'm with my 15 year old Jack Russell mix.❤
Im with my Yorkie mix Bandit and he stole my blanket. 🐕🐾🐾😂
I’m with my tank. He’s a French bulldog and sound asleep.
Nowadays most narratives are being done by AI, its always good to hear Paul's voice
Yes, an actual living person! AI is such a turn off.
Exactly!!!
Agree, especially his bloopers and chuckles at himself
I'm getting really sick of AI. Most of the videos narrated by AI were written by AI. They're terrible.
Paul, you are just fabulous! Love from the USA! ❤
Who also immediately hits the like button even before watching the video 🤣🤣🤣
Always do, because I know I'm going to enjoy the content and pauls voice is an absolute joy to listen to.😊
@deewhite4346 yes, his accent and voice are interesting and soothing 😌
Eye do!@#
Me
Never been disappointed once 😊
We're SO grateful for you good sir & your whole team, with much love, on thansgiving, from the US.
Hi from Australia. Thank you Paul, your voice is a great big Scottish hug and just what is needed at present 😊I have actually watched you for hours on end. Oh and the compilations are wonderful and very informative. You and the team do an amazing job. Keep them coming. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🕊️
Agree from another Aussie
Really, really enjoying this channel and I'm glad I serendipitously stumbled upon it while bouncing around other historical content. The narration is absolute superb. Paul is a genuine storyteller of the highest order.
The story of Baby Doe made me tear up and shed a few rears🥺 What a tragic end to such an incredibly resilient & courageous lady. It's nice to hear that she is remembered fondly and her story is still being told. Rest well Baby Doe🙏🏻
me too. Sitting here crying because of her.
Ah! Huzzah! I love the compilations! Thank you Paul!
Huzzah, indeed!!
I love your voice in telling the story. ❤❤
Yes! Nice and cozy, for us alone on Thanksgiving....thank you sir!
Alone is o.k. Its just an " eating holiday ". We single folks " Wild Turkeys" meet for our own celebration.
As an amateur history buff, I say these presentations are SUPERBLY presented! Few indeed have such speaking skills!
my dear man I could listen to your beautiful voice reading the telephone directory xx thank you for your delightful company ❤️
This is the rest of my evenings entertainment sorted then!
Thanks Paul, keep up the great work.
❤ from a UK subscriber 🇬🇧
"AN"....
Paul, you and the team are truly incredible! There's never a boring second when you're around. Keep shining with that fantastic energy, everyone! Paul, I wish you had been my history teacher back in school-I’m sure I would have aced it! Much love to all of you!
Watch the rest of them later just looked at the clock 3.55 am lol, thanks Paul so far really interesting stories as usual 👍 😀
Baby Doe sounds fascinating. I'm going to research more. To have lived in such luxury without being welcomed by her society and then resorting to live in squalor when her fortune changed suggests that she was never a gold-digger - she simply lived with the hands life dealt her and with her own sense of pride, resilience, and acceptance rather than trying to fit in.
It was a sad story. And that her daughter wanted nothing to do with her after raising her. Not the way a mother should leave this world, or a daughter treat the woman who gave birth to her🥺
From the UK. A fascinating kaleidoscope of stories. Many thanks
I was feeling so anxious all day and nothing was helping until I stumbled upon this video; somehow the presenter's voice and demeanor helped me to finally calm down and immerse in the stories fully. The way he talks about the people in the stories, with such empathy and kindness, makes you feel connected with humanity, even though these people who are long gone. Especially the stories of Daniel Lambert and Baby Doe Tabor. The Baby Doe story made such an impression on me I had to pause the video and search more about her, I wanted to check if she had any surviving family (sadly none) and found out her beautiful antique bed from her "rich times" was on an auction just like 10 years ago! (no idea if anyone bought it but you can google it just to see it)
Was this the daughter of the “Silver King”? There was an opera written about her, called, “The Ballad of Baby Doe”. Fascinating story!❤
@@Croneposse429 no, she was actually his wife :) "baby doe" was just a nickname, she married the guy who owned the silver mines. They named one of their daughters Silver Dollar though, it's all in the video 😊
Thank you for the story of Daniel Lambert of my home city Leicester. I always felt sad for Daniel until hearing this of his remarkable personality and education.
Thank you Mr Paul, love these compilations
Thanks!
You gave thanks. On Thanksgiving. That's deep, dude.
No sarcasm
Thank you so much, Brian 🙏☺
Thank you Mr brodie and team this is going to be brilliant ❤
I completely agree! Its amazing how history always has such unexpected twists and turns. Do you have a favorite historical story or event that still blows your mind every time you think about it?
The lighthouse story I've heard before, full of mystery, watching it again it is completely mind blowing what the ocean can do, but the only thing I can never get my head around is the oil weather jackets left behind, and the fact know one was left to care for the light.
Baby Doe's story gets me every time.
She's beautiful, even in the black and white photo, she looks mixed to me. Of course I'm not sure, but she does to me❤
It was so sad 😞
Love the Nursery Rhymes one. We sang those as children. Didn't know they had such dark meanings.
Growing up in Iowa, in the USA, we always said "Ashes, ashes, we all fall down."
Thanks, I love your wonderful video's Paul. I would love some Scottish history video's as I'm from a Glasgow/Dumfries family, but like my Dad & Brother was born in what's now Malawi 😊 there are some really stunning "Well I never" stories in Scottish history... hint, hint 😉 Lang may ye keep telling these wonderful stories 👌🏻🏅💗
Thank you so much, Jeanette ☺🙏 We have a few on the way! 😁
Thanks for the upload, Paul!
Always a joy and quite insightful, your stories are breathtaking as well as groovy. I think I could listen to you tell tales for hours as your voice and delivery are nothing short of spectacular. Many thanks for sharing.
1:25:17 I live in Toodyay, the town that celebrates Moondyne Joe every year with our Moondyne Festival! Never thought I'd see our little town in one of your videos but here we are! Also your first pronunciation of 'Toodyay' was perfect haha
I used to hang out at the minnicks House with John minnick's son. They had to cut out a picture window to get him to the hospital. He lost weight and got down to 900 lbs and sadly passed.
I don't understand how family members allow this to happen. When someone is that large and can't get out of bed, someone is cooking and providing the person 15,000-20,000 calories per day. When they can't get the food themselves, providing it to them is basically killing the person
thanks you Paul for the compilation of your videos and love your TH-cam channel
The stories presented on this channel never cease to hold my attention. When I want to go to sleep, I watch a different channel. When I want to stay awake, I watch this channel. Well done. Cheers from the States. 🍻
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
From Colorado USA 🇺🇸
😊💙🥰
The British don't celebrate Thanksgiving. Just saying. But Happy Thanksgiving to you in the USA ❤🎉
I love those B&W images, they're the best ones I've seen for a while. Oh, for the love of Dog I hope they're not bloody AI art, I'm still using wet photography at times and they're exactly the type of pictures I'd have trouble with not taking them.
Unhinged rant was unhinged
One of my favourite channels! Greetings from Scotland 🏴👋🏻👏🏻
Love the Daniel Lambert story!
What a remarkable man!
THANK YOU!
both baby doe's story and the story of moondyne joe's put me in mind of robert hunter's sublime lyrics. most readily discount the grateful dead as gormless hippies, but a quiet reading of hunter's words might surprise one. you have a good knack for uncovering wonderful stories as well as a great voice for delivering them.
Distant cousin of Helen Duncan through the McFarlane line, family had it that she was very accurate but that when she started charging she was under pressure to perform and come up with stuff to keep the punters happy.
Thank you very much Paul, you're a natural storyteller and a wonderful one at that.
I also appreciate so much the extensive research that you conduct.
Baby Doe Tabor was an incredible woman for all of the right reasons and her disgraceful treatment at the 'hands' of her peers was nothing more than delayed jealousy.
Moondyne Joe deserved a medal for tenacity if nothing else, and fair play to the Governor for keeping to their word and granting him a pardon.
Take care Paul.
Thanks Mr.Brodie. Looking forward to another good listen
Thank you from Florida! Listening on Thanksgiving evening and trying not to succumb to a turkey coma.
I love your amazing stories, in particular the one about rhymes and folklore tales of which I hope to see more of please!
The story of Daniel Lambert made my heart leap from joy, we need more like him as of disposition and character. Just too sad that his weight cut his life short way too soon as I am sure he would have positively affected many many ppl.
Love your stuff, Paul. I’m a similar age to you and it reminds me very much of how much I look forward to Jackanory as a child keep up the good work. Merry Christmas.
Michigan 🇺🇸 wishes everyone a great evening saying "well I never."
😂😂😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The Lighthouse...Great Movie
A tale of madness
Davy Jones...sleep well, Sir
Who needs junk TV when we have really interesting creators like Paul and team.
When you speak of the islands on the west of Scotland, it warms my heart. I was able to trace my ancestry back to Lewis Island and quite possibly the earliest ancestors of the Morrison clan (spelled several different ways) and later to Dairsy (sp?)
Castle? Scotland.
Although some stories, like this one about the three lightkeepers, are sad, I enjoy learning history through your story telling.
Your voice and storytelling is so interesting during daytime and so much "sandman" during nighttime.
You are one heck of a good, absorbing storyteller! Thank you for these mysterious stories, I enjoy listening to you.
Happy Thanksgiving, Sir Paul! I'm thankful for you, your channel, and all you do on it for us viewers! Thank you! 💛
Been a long day, & notified hours ago, new video, finally relax & realised a long compilation, im getting the posh ice cream out now 😁🥰
Hell YES. Another Thanksgiving miracle
Anyone remember Anthony Newly?
I remember a version of Pop goes the weasel,
It had a hatter popping his weasel or trade tools for cash.
I think it was on the Carol Burnett show.:)
You told the tale of Baby Doe so beautifully, thank you
Daniel sounded like a beautiful human. Rip❤❤😢
Brings back memories of "I Want To Marry A Lighthouse Keeper" from Clockwork Orange...😮
I'm thankful for this on our holy day of gobble gobble! Happy Thanksgiving
Your voice , and stories , give people something to contemplate rather than everyday problems . You are the dream- bringer Paul !. Not bad singer to. Thanks butty. Dave
Hello Paul! I just love these compilations. Thank you my friend! ❤
I do love all your content and I’m watching your older things I understand… But I just found your channel and it’s fabulous. Thank you so much.
This is my bedtime story.. and I am thoroughly enjoying it! Thank you, Paul and team.. 🙏🤗
Brother you need to start a second channel dedicated to singing nursery rhymes called, “Rhyme I Never.”
I dictate my comments but my telephone types what it wants to rather than whay I say, I apologize for incorrectly spelling your name. When I dictate Brody that's the way my phone spells your name. Thank you Paul BRODIE for your wonderful narrations and stories!
I love the stories about the nursery rhymes! I never heard them before.
I love your videos!
Chapter markers would be a helpful addition. I get distracted sometimes while playing your videos in the background, and it's a real chore to find the beginning of a story.
Happy Thanksgiving from Mississippi!!!! 🦃
Brilliantly executed thank you for sharing this and for your time 😊
Your videos have a similar vibe to Murder Maps, which I love. 😊
I tried going to sleep with this guy and was up til 4. Thank you
❤❤❤❤❤❤ I wish you would consider audio books. 😊
I love you, man. Thank you so much for your content.
Love Paul's videos
As always I’ve enjoyed this chapter and look forward to the next. Thank you🌹
Mr Brodie, I commend you for your fascinating narrations. I first listened to your episode on the Rode House murder case which interested me as I read 'The Suspicions of Mr Wicher' by Kate Somerscale about the case. Considering your sober-faced delivery, I particularly enjoy your 'corpsing'. The one where Dr Crippen wouldn't escort his dinner guest to the toilet was particularly amusing. Also your reaction to the bungled execution of the Duke of Monmouth. You strongly resemble a family friend called Andrew (with English accent). When my son comes in while I am watching 'Well I never', he says "Oh, you're watching Andrew again."
Yea!! 🎉 The best remedy for being overstuffed from eating Thanksgiving favorites!!!
The fact that all keepers ever leaving the lighthouse was absolutely against the rules doesn't mean it didn't happen. Workplaces are full of people 'bending' even absolute rules. This usually only comes to light (no pun intended) when there is an investigation into a fatal incident...
I don't believe in ghosts but enjoy your shows, the history, you're a gent😊
Thank you so much Mr.Paul it's Thanksgiving day so what better way to finish this day❤
Happy Thanksgiving from America
I'm British. We don't give thanks. 🎉
I am Canadian, in my 50's, and as kids we always said "Husha, husha," not "Ashes, ashes".
Oh my goodness! The infamous “Aunt Babe” I could never hear much about as a child. My great aunt would whoosh us out of the room when the grand Dames of my family (they are legion!) 😮 would tell stories. Somehow we are related to one of her siblings. That’s about all I know, sadly. My mother mentioned her a few times as a scandalous person she heard about when she was little, too.
RIP Bady Doe🌹🙏💋
Western US. We sang the one song saying, "Round and round the mulberry bush, the monkey chased the weasel" then the rest was the same.
We did too on East Coast.
What happened next? Did the weasel get away 😢
@@paulm5890
I think the monkey splatted him with a big wooden mallet like Mario in Nintendo
Hello Paul! Thank you for the new upload!
There’s that dapper gentleman❤Great channel!
Soothing voice. Grammatically accurate and, blessings on you, not repetitious!!!!!!
I sincerely pray that the Lord will bless you with a much longer life so that you may continue to share your stories with us as you bring us truly enjoyable entertainment without the use of foul language.
Daniel Lambert sounded like an all round nice guy, died at such a young age was a shame 😳 I'm sure he is looking down at us.
The witch story is very intriguing, how easy would have it been to have some poor innocent women prosecuted back then, I can't really judge these people who claim to be witches, as i don't really understand it, maybe that was the problem centuries ago 😢
Great!! Love your tales😊
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water....jill forgot to take the pill...and now they have a daughter.....
When I was growing up, every kid in the neighborhood came out to play together. We played
box ball, kick ball, hopscotch, tag, and cowboys and Indians.
At school during recess, we played various games together that involved songs and rhymes.
By the time my son was born, kids stayed inside to play electronic games. :o(
Fabulous history!!!
