Love that Ford Matt. I'd leave it be for a while cause it's a true time capsule. It'd be nice if you shoved a nice high strung flattie in it and make a bit of a sleeper out of it. Chemical Guys stuff ... I thought they're products were my secret. I've been using they're stuff for a while and am very happy with it. Anyway "Hey" to everyone and give Moon a pat for me. Cheers 👊😎👍
That 39 is a hell of a find! Once you finish with Mad-Scientist-Be-Gone it's remarkably solid. You really got after it on the polish job and what a payoff!
Hey Matt & Steve, great job on cleaning up the paint on the '39 Coupe! WOW! You were dead-on with your analysis - and your work paid off big time. It would be a trip if the previous owner could have seen your results... I'm betting he would have been impressed. Thank goodness you guys got it!
You guys are doing a great job. I always thought that cowl vents on pre 50's cars were literally and figuratively really cool. Thanx for bring that one back to life.
I used to scrape paint & restore iron railings. Back in the day, Naval Jelly was a must to clean up orange blossoms. Made a mess but worked. Nice job on the 39. Ty for taking us along
I did a similar process on my old Fargo truck and it really brought back the paint colour. I then hit it with my power polisher and some polishing compound. Finally I coated the old patina with a clear. Pretty shiny now even the rusty patches.
The 39 coupe reminds me of a 40 standard coupe I found in 1967. It was the same color, it was sitting behind a gas station in Chetopa, Kansas. The owner had wanted to make a gasser out of it but had lost interest, It was for sale, I was only 14 and my Dad wouldn't let me buy it no matter how much I begged. I could have bought it for $90.
Hey Matt: Try using a kitchen sponge for the block for your wet sanding. It conforms much better to all of the curves instead of only hitting the high spots. Try it. I think you will be happy. That looks like a really solid car !!
To quote Eddie Cochran, "She's sure fine looking man, she's something else!" That was a lot of hard work, but lordy bahgordy, what a transformation! That there is the definition of a beautifully preserved (thru all your hard work) survivor! Go Iron Trap, keep moving forward!
What a difference! I remember, when I was 12 or so, trying to get the paint back on my Dad's 250V8 Daimler with T cut, by hand. It was so dusty flat. A nightmare that took months! 😃 But I enjoyed it. I will bet, Professional Detailers are looking at this vid and saying, "You did what!" Lol
Absolutely fabulous. Among the ranks of survivor cars this is about as good as it gets. Thanks for your hard work to save the car and entertain us at the same time.
That 39 ford looks great. Thanks for the video. I used a Mcguriars product on a red 64 cutlass that had sun damaged back in 73 and it looked much better. That product removed the old oxidized paint and gave it a shine. Unfortunately the sun had done too much damage to get a perfect finish.
I know that you really like to lower the fronts on your cars, but I and perhaps some others would prefer to see a stock set up. I grew up with these cars and really like the original look, Great show and thanks for all your work.
Remember back when new the paint was lacquer very soft rather than more newer cars that were painted with acrylic lacquer that is harder and more durable.
i'm blown away! all the hard work you two did really shows. imo you might wanna now throw some paint on the wheels since the rest looks so sharp. i love seeing these cars get the attention they deserve.
Totally agree about the wheels. I was thinking the same thing. I love these "survivors" when the paint shows it age like this one and the wheels and tires are made to look "fresh" and stand out !! A darker/contrasting but brighter color on the wheels so the shiny trim pops along with nicely dressed new tires. "DONE" !!!
Wow ! A lot of work , but just look at that shine ! A sharp looking car ! It's been a very long time since that one has had that much attention . Looking forward to more done on it mechanically , to get it ready for show season . New brake system & exhaust . Baby's got back , lol , one could put a lot of junk in that trunk ! Matt pulling bumpers out of it , for installation . Awesome job , Guys ! Thank you for the post on this 39 Ford Coupe !
The paint came back pretty good especially compared to when you pulled it out of its storage/hiding! You guys put a ton of work into getting that shine. The 39 Deluxe and 40 Deluxe and standard are my favorite body styles. Can't wait to see it on the road!
Certainly better than when you brought it to your shop! Not my color choice for a car, but it is what it is. Looks as good as it could without a repaint!
mad scientist "sealing" up the vent makes me cringe. I'm redoing a cj5 and the previous owner use to melt toilet wax rings to seal up leaks. does a good job unless you are trying to remove it so you can fix things properly. well done polishing this girl up. I look forward to the next.
it won't be long before your hot rodding cars will be behind you and that original looking '39 will be what you'll want to drive around in. ...you're already looking the part. haha and those steelies (my favorites) are looking reeealy nice what with those beauty rings and fancy hubcaps. nice!
Looks like it turned out really nice. I happened upon Chemical Guys products a couple of years ago. Very happy with their stuff. Literally used a major brand ( TV guy 😁) for decades and thought it was the best. Chemical guys get some of my business now. All good!
Awesome looking car after all that cleaning and polishing. Shows what can be done with some hard work guys. Will the wheels get some spiffing up in the future? This will be a fun one to drive for the summer.
She's looking great, guys! Reminds me of "Beautiful". It would be cool to see these two survivors setting next to each other. How close are the colors of Beautiful and this? Raisin pie for everyone!
Sorry to bug you. Hey get some of that stuff called trim shine by a company called Stoner. They have it at O’Reillys I know and it would make those runningboards look really cool. You just spray it on old rubber stuff and it makes it look brand new.
Looks very good after a solid 2 days, 2 guys cleaning up and buffing. Paint and chrome trim stand out. Bumpers and grill standout. Pop-up vent with gasket ensures some additional ventilation. Curious on the retro rebuilds, occasionally seasonally driven, how do you negotiate appropriate insurance?

The 39 looks great!!
Looks great ! You guys really need to build a hotrod for Steve !! He is always there for You ...
He is always.. paid.. as a full time employee….
Amazing!! That Ole man saved that car.
😍😍
The 39 looks really good now.
I agree Ted
Great finish for an old surface.
😍😍😍
Remarkably -- its a survivor , without much damage and the color and condition of bodywork is truly nearly intact..!!
Carry on...
Thank you Matt and Steve for the update on the '39 Ford Coupe ! It looks a lot better than it first did !
❤❤❤
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
An excellent job on the most beautiful coupé, please Matt, keep it alive..

They also do a great job of blowing all the dirt on the floor right into your eyes!
I used to scrape paint & restore iron railings. Back in the day, Naval Jelly was a must to clean up orange blossoms. Made a mess but worked. Nice job on the 39. Ty for taking us along
All of yalls HARD work really paid off !!! Looks soo much better 😊

My complements to Steve, he's a super mechanic working with you in your shop....👍💪👌
IronTrap Garage, This is great! I liked it and subscribed!
At least he made an attempt to preserve it. Looks sooo much better now. Road trip!!!!!!!!
just enough......thanks for posting, looks like i need to get busy on ol' Hag...Thanks again
Thanks for another , Brother !
Good looking '39!
Love guys looks amazing
Another great looking ‘39’ wonderful old car!
Fine looking ride !
Now, THAT'S a nice job!!👌
Love Chemical Guys products. Their VPR for rubber and plastics and the Heavy Metal Polish are awesome products as well. Couple looks great.

This screams moonshine! lemme know when it can come to texas
Paint and polish looks Great Matt 👍
I'd be happy and proud to drive it looking like that.
Absolutely fantastic. Thanks so much (brings back memories of my parents 1941 Oldsmobile).
Good job Matt and Steve that poor old girl deserved that
Absolutely fabulous. Among the ranks of survivor cars this is about as good as it gets. Thanks for your hard work to save the car and entertain us at the same time.
Wow. Very satisfying vid.
It looks beautiful! It's nice to see the Hanes Coupe all spiffed up.
I know that you really like to lower the fronts on your cars, but I and perhaps some others would prefer to see a stock set up. I grew up with these cars and really like the original look, Great show and thanks for all your work.
I don't believe he is building it for you and some others, he is a hot rod guy not a restorer
Again with the restoration comments. They build traditional hot rods not original looking restorations. The car looks awesome.
Doc Brown's Coupe is looking great.
WOW! A lot of elbow grease but what a difference. New exhaust and paint on the frame and rear end and she's a beaut Clark.
Great job. Keep him original. So cool.😊
Remember back when new the paint was lacquer very soft rather than more newer cars that were painted with acrylic lacquer that is harder and more durable.
Between the 2 of you, you spent 16 hours working on the body now spent 1 hour working on the undercarriage.
She looks fantastic on camera…👌🏼gonna use the same technique for my 67 impalaSS ..sierra fawn …thanks for the step by step tutorial.
Ya guys RoCK ⛽️👊🏼

Great job cleaning up the 39. Amazing what time and elbow grease can accomplish.
That cowl vent! Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do 🤪
Wow ! A lot of work , but just look at that shine ! A sharp looking car ! It's been a very long time since that one has had that much attention . Looks real good considering how old it is at 85 years old.
bumpers looking good!
Nice job Matt & Steve, now you got to get those running boards up to snuff! lol
You guys did a great job. Looking forward to the mechanical stuff next, especially the exhaust.
Certainly better than when you brought it to your shop! Not my color choice for a car, but it is what it is. Looks as good as it could without a repaint!
Looking good big effort on paint work just right. For the original look.
mad scientist "sealing" up the vent makes me cringe. I'm redoing a cj5 and the previous owner use to melt toilet wax rings to seal up leaks. does a good job unless you are trying to remove it so you can fix things properly. well done polishing this girl up. I look forward to the next.
Love the car, nice work bringing it back around 👍🏻
A BUNCH OF ELBOW GREASE=SHEER BEAUTY! NICE JOB GUYS!!!
Damn, that car looks great! I wish I could afford to buy it!!
it won't be long before your hot rodding cars will be behind you and that original looking '39 will be what you'll want to drive around in. ...you're already looking the part. haha

Amazing looks good it's got a new life thanks to Mike and Steve. Paint got a wet looks shine . Am very impressed. ❤👍😉
Except Mike wasn't there

That made a day v night difference!!!!!
Well done Guys!💯
She's looking great, guys!
Reminds me of "Beautiful". It would be cool to see these two survivors setting next to each other.
How close are the colors of Beautiful and this?
Raisin pie for everyone!
Fairly similar in color for sure
Car looks AWESOME!!!! I would drive that gem all day long. Matt & Steve take some Motrin cause you deserve it..
I believe the cowl vent was sealed with Permagum, a putty used by electricians. It stays put and pliable.
it looks great Matt
What a great body style car always wanted one
Living through you guys ♥️👍
Love the '39 👍👍
Wow looks great you guys busted butt on it and it shure paid off. Amazing surviver fine .

That's a nice39 haply you keep it its a nice original car you should be glad you were able to buy it
Try comet and a wet spun
Comet??? Never used that on paint before.
I have some 33 dove tone grey, and the tractor and some implement grey, actually looks good on a car
Looks great!!!
I think some white walls would look good on it. Especially since it's the Deluxe.
