A character I wish they would bring back is Bowser's brother. He's a character from The Lost Levels that only appeared in this game. I knew it wasn't very likely, but I hoped to see him return in Wonder since the first trailer showed a dark blue Bowser Jr., and Bowser's brother is depicted as a dark blue Bowser. But now we know he's not the antagonist. But I really wish they would bring him back, redesign him, and give him a name. That would be so cool. And there could be a 2v2 battle between the Mario Bros. and the Bowser Bros. in that game.
fun fact: Bowser's brother blue color is actually fake, since if you load an axe on the same screen as him, he will turn into regular bowser color, which is why his colors are regular bowser in The all-stars version
I feel like most people either forget this or just don't know but Toadsworth was voiced by Charles Martinet as well, so if he ever makes a return I wonder if they'll recast him or just his voice clips reused
@4:24 pretty sure super paper Mario was the start of the character restrictions on the series. That's why they set it in a different dimension (get it) with different species, and the classic Mario enemies that do show up are completely vanilla
Stanley the Bugman from Donkey Kong 3 is a character I think would be interesting to see something new done with. He was in a Donkey Kong episode of Saturday Supercade and according to one commercial, he was apparently also the main character in Greenhouse on the Game & Watch as well. He's had a modern design made showing what he would look like in newer Super Mario games, but it hasn't been used for anything other than trophies in the Super Smash Bros. games. With Stanley being an exterminator, I think he's unique to the Mario franchise. Mouser is another character from Doki Doki Mario that I would like to see return because I like his design. I know we have the little Mousers in newer games, but it isn't the same.
I’d wanna see Count Bleck’s minions make a comeback in a future Paper Mario if they go back to doing games more akin to the first 3, since we don’t know much about what they do after Bleck’s gone, and it’d be interesting to see how they’ve changed. Blizzaurus from Super Princess Peach is a real deep cut one that I think would be neat. There’s also literally all the Wario characters; I never understood why there wasn’t much overlap between characters in Mario and Wario. Why hasn’t Captain Syrup appeared in at least a Mario spinoff or something?
Be nice if we got a main series game, but with paper mario characters, at least the villans. There are so many lost Mario villans they should all get in a big main series game where its a different mission than saving Peach, maybe saving a new place/universe that had Paper Mario/ex villans, hell make the Shadow queen a big bad and make a Sunshine type spinoff. Except without the vacation more at stake.
Fawful would be an amazing return and I do miss Toadbert, I don’t know if E Gadd will count but I feel like he could be done with so much more stuff. Broggy would be such an amazing return as well
Pretty sure it was confirmed that the current DK IS DKJR aged. The movie made that extremely apparent by confirming Cranky as DK’s father rather than Grandfather
