I saw this in 2012 with my daughter, Tess, when it was nominated for best short animation. This struck a chord with me then, and I cried. Eight years later, I am crying again because my lovely girl is gone and this is just another memory of how wonderful she was.
I am so sorry for your loss. God bless you and your daughter's soul.
God bless you and may she find peace I only rewatch this today too...bring back good memories.
Im sorry
:(
Perhaps in this film, life is represented by the house that he lives in. While we build and prepare ourselves for present challenges; problems which are conscious and current. We should not forget about the subconscious part of ourselves represented by the submerged part of the house. As we look back in our memories and past we realize that many things in the past makes us who we are today, and perhaps the first memories will always be bittersweet. The first memories lay the foundation of who we will and can be. While we don't give much credit to the subconscious mind and our past memories, they shaped who we are today. Perhaps we could look back more often and appreciate more what life had offered us in the past, and learn from them more. This was what I learnt from the video. :')
amelia liauw I saw the water to represent time as it constantly moves even though we keep cling to the past that we can never truly return too
I think your reading too much into it.
Yes, I think you're right. Houses are often presented in allegories representing memory. Although memory is more random than that; like Citizen Kane uttering 'Rosebud' on his deathbed, for instance.
OK Boomer.

Gracias profe Javier Ibarreche. Yo nunca hubiera podido dar con esto.

Yep
We grow older and at each passing stage, only a few are brought to the next stage with us. Memorable experiences and the like. And as we further in life, there is the desire to look back and try to regain those we have lost on the way. We reminisce and discover how much memories we've left in our subconscious.

you can't just buy new things, make new memories, write new history, it's the memories, things and history you've already got that needs to be preserved
Bajando a la profundidad del alma...😍
Es el paso de la vida.
For me, thats better than “Married life” in Up...
It's amazing and very well thought...
This is beautiful
simply fantasticcccccccccc !!!!!
blogged, thank you soooo much !!!!!
This is a really wonderful work.
such a wonderful story..a journey to the memories!

To be honest, I was under the impression that this was a French production by the setting, art style and _even_ the (French) title here, that is, until I reached the ending credits where I found out that it was actually a Japanese anime short produced by a *cough* _Japanese_ company named Robot Communications. Now, don't attack me, I love anime and have been watching it as a fan since summer 2014, but I also watch artistic animated shorts from other places Europe, North America, Latin America and Australia as well when I feel like it. But thanks for fooling me, Japan, now I believe this was sourced from a print released in France but great film perhaps.

Fue hermoso
This film was incredible. It troubled me, because Im not quite certain what it's meaning is, not to mention the amazing animation style!
To me, it's like the house represents his memories, and as he proceeds to open each door he remembers how his life was back when he was happy. And because he cant bare to remember, he builds a new floor whenever he feels like he's had enough. But in the end, he can't really escape his pastpast, and after all, maybe he shouldn't.
Very dark way too represent the film. Can't bare to remember? I don't think so. Yes, each house represents a crucial moment in his past, but the reason why he builds up is simply because of the water, not because he can't bare to remember.
The houses represent stages in life, they also represent that most of us prefer living in the present. It's just saying that taking a trip down memory lane can prove beneficial.
@@kaneda7368 Also I was thinking the the water rising could be represented as time, and as time goes on, his memories fade deeper and deeper into the depths of his mind. I might be looking into it too much though.
oscar winner.
This broken my heart
