L’HISTOIRE
Dans le Paris des années 50, un gardien de la paix affamé rencontre dans un jardin public une vieille dame gâteuse dont le passe temps favori consiste à offrir de fastueux repas aux pigeons du quartier. Désormais, sous le képi de l’agent, la chose est claire. En devenant pigeon lui-même, il pourra se remplir la panse au frais de la naïve petite dame ! Naïve ?

Ugh for the 100th time i just cant stop going back to this, i love everything about it, little to no dialogue, the sounds, the environment, art style, the animation, the story,for some reason this just relaxes but excites me at the same time✨
I'm glad the Simpsons did the Sylvain Chomet Couch Gag, which has led me to this cartoon as I've been trying to find it on TH-cam for a good few years as I remember watching it as a kid.
Chomet is a master in animation, no doubt, but I think my favorite aspect in his works is the sound design. Very ASMR like, super detailed as hell. It's insane
Best France independent short animated film ever created
I'm in love with this animation. This is probably the 5 time in two days I've come back to watch it. The style, colours, music, it's brilliant
I love the voicelessness of the main character. Makes him so much easier to relate to and connect too
If you connect with an ungrateful, rude, heartless, manipulative piece of garbage you seriously need help. He's not the "good guy" in this story, he's the character we're meant to learn from by not being like him.

Je me rappelle du visionnage de ce court-métrage dans une petite salle du 19ème arrondissement, c'était incroyable. Ce jour là, je suis tombé amoureux de la patte graphique de Nicolas de Crécy.
I was born in '88, and I remember watching this back when I was a kid.
I don't know what it is about the french, but their art is so similar to one another as if their culture has integrated an amazing style within their artists.
Id argue, that america’s view of french art is stereotypical because its exactly what they want from it. Less cliché art, even, a lot of times better then what you guys get, dont make it overseas, since its not what is being looked out for. Same thing for art representation of other cultures (asian, latin/spanish, etc)
As a American this is spot on🤣😂 and I remembered this from my college days absolutely pure gold then and now😃 I just watched this in my backyard huffing a lucky strike and just vibing with all the sounds and I can't help but love your palette both in tone of the setting and color 😌 can't lie when the officer saw her sharping hedge clippers it caught me off guard in the best ways 😎

J’ai cherché cette musique pendant plusieurs mois et je viens enfin de la trouver !!
That video reminds me that Spongebob Squarepants episode when Gary leaves Spongebob's home and now he's living in a old lady's house where she feeds Gary until he's fattened up. While Gary lives with that old lady, she shows him old pictures of her old snails. A short while later, when Gary opens a closet, he sees that it is full of empty snail shells, implying that the old lady eats the snails that come to her house, then he realizes he's put on a lot of weight and now Gary has to escape from that place while the old lady tries to kill him to eat him
This is where they got the idea, well, ripped this off

I had looked for this everywhere and it’s spectacular. The nightmare scene in it is terrifying but hilarious ! It’s a sad state of affairs when doves/pigeons have a better living arrangement than you do and they eat for free !

@@mistermcfly9572 Look into Silvan’s more well known films like The Triplets of Belleville and The Illusionist. He also provided a marvelous couch gag for The Simpsons, but other than that I don’t know if Silvan is still animating.
@@EBThisThat I've seen all the movies you refer, but I want to know if there similar movies with this artwork. And yes, sylvain has a proyect movie called "the thousand miles" and looks spectacular.

Far as a pastel palette like this, it’s hard to say honestly. I saw one watercolor stop motion film called Cryptozoo. Beyond that none other really stands out.

At first I thought he was going to eat the pigeon he caught but the was an interesting twist.

Oh my god, i have looked everywhere in this. I remember when i was in grade 3 my french teacher showed this to the whole class.
Upon watching this now, I realise I saw this as a child. Quite the traumatic experience! I have had some haunting images in my head of a pidgeon-man now and again, expecially from 19:20. Now I know where that came from!

The… police guard..? (I think that’s what he is) has actually had cameos in sylvain chomets other animated films (specifically the triplets of Belleville and The Illusionist)

My teacher wants us to to something for a french project.... but.... WHAT IS THIS!?
Does anyone know what the main theme of this short is called? I know it's made by Jean Corti, thanks to the credits, but I can't seem to find the damn thing. The only song I can find that resembles it is Fiorina, but the problem with it is that it has a voice over it, so I can't listen to it as an instrumental. If anyone has a link to the actual song, they will be forever in my debt.
